Surah 13
سُورَةُ الرَّعۡدِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
الٓمٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ وَٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
ʾ-l-m-r (ˈalif lām mīm rā) tilka ˈāyātu l-kitābi wa-llaḏī ˈunzila ˈilayka min rabbika l-ḥaqqu wa-lākinna ˈakṯara n-nāsi lā yuˈminūna
Alif, Lam, Mim, Ra. These are the signs of the Book. That which has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, but most people do not believe [in it].
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى رَفَعَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ۖ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ كُلٌّ يَجْرِى لِأَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ يُدَبِّرُ ٱلْأَمْرَ يُفَصِّلُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُم بِلِقَآءِ رَبِّكُمْ تُوقِنُونَ
allāhu llaḏī rafaʿa s-samāwāti bi-ġayri ʿamadin tarawnahā ṯumma stawā ʿalā l-ʿarši wa-saḫḫara š-šamsa wa-l-qamara kullun yaǧrī li-ˈaǧalin musamman yudabbiru l-ˈamra yufaṣṣilu l-ˈāyāti laʿallakum bi-liqāˈi rabbikum tūqinūna
It is Allah who raised the heavens without any pillars that you see, and then presided over the Throne. He disposed the sun and the moon, each moving for a specified term. He directs the command, [and] elaborates the signs that you may be certain of encountering your Lord.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى مَدَّ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنْهَـٰرًا ۖ وَمِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ جَعَلَ فِيهَا زَوْجَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ يُغْشِى ٱلَّيْلَ ٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
wa-huwa llaḏī madda l-ˈarḍa wa-ǧaʿala fīhā rawāsiya wa-ˈanhāran wa-min kulli ṯ-ṯamarāti ǧaʿala fīhā zawǧayni ṯnayni yuġšī l-layla n-nahāra ˈinna fī ḏālika la-ˈāyātin li-qawmin yatafakkarūna
It is He who has spread out the earth and set in it firm mountains and streams, and of every fruit in it He has made two kinds. He draws the night’s cover over the day. There are indeed signs in that for a people who reflect.
وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ قِطَعٌ مُّتَجَـٰوِرَٰتٌ وَجَنَّـٰتٌ مِّنْ أَعْنَـٰبٍ وَزَرْعٌ وَنَخِيلٌ صِنْوَانٌ وَغَيْرُ صِنْوَانٍ يُسْقَىٰ بِمَآءٍ وَٰحِدٍ وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فِى ٱلْأُكُلِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ
wa-fī l-ˈarḍi qiṭaʿun mutaǧāwirātun wa-ǧannātun min ˈaʿnābin wa-zarʿun wa-naḫīlun ṣinwānun wa-ġayru ṣinwānin yusqā bi-māˈin wāḥidin wa-nufaḍḍilu baʿḍahā ʿalā baʿḍin fī l-ˈukuli ˈinna fī ḏālika la-ˈāyātin li-qawmin yaʿqilūna
In the earth are neighbouring terrains [of diverse kinds] and vineyards, farms, and date palms growing from the same root and from diverse roots, [all] irrigated by the same water, and We give some of them an advantage over others in flavour. There are indeed signs in that for people who exercise their reason.
وَإِن تَعْجَبْ فَعَجَبٌ قَوْلُهُمْ أَءِذَا كُنَّا تُرَٰبًا أَءِنَّا لَفِى خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ۗ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلُ فِىٓ أَعْنَاقِهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ
wa-ˈin taʿǧab fa-ʿaǧabun qawluhum ˈa-ˈiḏā kunnā turāban ˈa-ˈinnā la-fī ḫalqin ǧadīdin ˈulāˈika llaḏīna kafarū bi-rabbihim wa-ˈulāˈika l-ˈaġlālu fī ˈaʿnāqihim wa-ˈulāˈika ˈaṣḥābu n-nāri hum fīhā ḫālidūna
If you are to wonder [at anything], then wonderful is their remark, ‘When we have become dust, shall we be [ushered] into a new creation?’ They are the ones who defy their Lord; they shall have iron collars around their necks, they shall be the inhabitants of the Fire, and they shall remain in it [forever].
وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِمُ ٱلْمَثُلَـٰتُ ۗ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِّلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ
wa-yastaʿǧilūnaka bi-s-sayyiˈati qabla l-ḥasanati wa-qad ḫalat min qablihimu l-maṯulātu wa-ˈinna rabbaka la-ḏū maġfiratin li-n-nāsi ʿalā ẓulmihim wa-ˈinna rabbaka la-šadīdu l-ʿiqābi
They would press you for evil sooner than for good, though there have already gone by before them exemplary punishments. Indeed your Lord is forgiving to mankind despite their wrongdoing, and indeed your Lord is severe in retribution.
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَلِكُلِّ قَوْمٍ هَادٍ
wa-yaqūlu llaḏīna kafarū law-lā ˈunzila ʿalayhi ˈāyatun min rabbihī ˈinnamā ˈanta munḏirun wa-li-kulli qawmin hādin-i
The faithless say, ‘Why has not some sign been sent down to him from his Lord?’ You are only a warner, and there is a guide for every people.
ٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَحْمِلُ كُلُّ أُنثَىٰ وَمَا تَغِيضُ ٱلْأَرْحَامُ وَمَا تَزْدَادُ ۖ وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ عِندَهُۥ بِمِقْدَارٍ
allāhu yaʿlamu mā taḥmilu kullu ˈunṯā wa-mā taġīḍu l-ˈarḥāmu wa-mā tazdādu wa-kullu šayˈin ʿindahū bi-miqdārin
Allah knows what every female carries [in her womb], and what the wombs reduce and what they increase, and everything is by [precise] measure with Him,
عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ٱلْكَبِيرُ ٱلْمُتَعَالِ
ʿālimu l-ġaybi wa-š-šahādati l-kabīru l-mutaʿāli
the Knower of the sensible and the Unseen, the All-great, the All-sublime.
سَوَآءٌ مِّنكُم مَّنْ أَسَرَّ ٱلْقَوْلَ وَمَن جَهَرَ بِهِۦ وَمَنْ هُوَ مُسْتَخْفٍۭ بِٱلَّيْلِ وَسَارِبٌۢ بِٱلنَّهَارِ
sawāˈun minkum man ˈasarra l-qawla wa-man ǧahara bihī wa-man huwa mustaḫfin bi-l-layli wa-sāribun bi-n-nahāri
It is the same [to Him] whether any of you speaks secretly, or does so loudly, or whether he lurks in the night, or is open to view in daytime.
لَهُۥ مُعَقِّبَـٰتٌ مِّنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ يَحْفَظُونَهُۥ مِنْ أَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۗ وَإِذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ سُوٓءًا فَلَا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ ۚ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ مِن وَالٍ
lahū muʿaqqibātun min bayni yadayhi wa-min ḫalfihī yaḥfaẓūnahū min ˈamri llāhi ˈinna llāha lā yuġayyiru mā bi-qawmin ḥattā yuġayyirū mā bi-ˈanfusihim wa-ˈiḏā ˈarāda llāhu bi-qawmin sūˈan fa-lā maradda lahū wa-mā lahum min dūnihī min wālin
He has guardian angels, to his front and his rear, who guard him by Allah’s command. Indeed Allah does not change a people’s lot, unless they change what is in their souls. And when Allah wishes to visit ill on a people, there is nothing that can avert it, and they have no protector besides Him.
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُرِيكُمُ ٱلْبَرْقَ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا وَيُنشِئُ ٱلسَّحَابَ ٱلثِّقَالَ
huwa llaḏī yurīkumu l-barqa ḫawfan wa-ṭamaʿan wa-yunšiˈu s-saḥāba ṯ-ṯiqāla
It is He who shows you the lightning, inspiring fear and hope, and He produces the clouds heavy [with rain].
وَيُسَبِّحُ ٱلرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِۦ وَيُرْسِلُ ٱلصَّوَٰعِقَ فَيُصِيبُ بِهَا مَن يَشَآءُ وَهُمْ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِى ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْمِحَالِ
wa-yusabbiḥu r-raʿdu bi-ḥamdihī wa-l-malāˈikatu min ḫīfatihī wa-yursilu ṣ-ṣawāʿiqa fa-yuṣību bihā man yašāˈu wa-hum yuǧādilūna fī llāhi wa-huwa šadīdu l-miḥāli
The Thunder celebrates His praise, and the angels [too], in awe of Him, and He releases the thunderbolts and strikes with them whomever He wishes. Yet they dispute concerning Allah, though He is great in might.
لَهُۥ دَعْوَةُ ٱلْحَقِّ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَسْتَجِيبُونَ لَهُم بِشَىْءٍ إِلَّا كَبَـٰسِطِ كَفَّيْهِ إِلَى ٱلْمَآءِ لِيَبْلُغَ فَاهُ وَمَا هُوَ بِبَـٰلِغِهِۦ ۚ وَمَا دُعَآءُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ
lahū daʿwatu l-ḥaqqi wa-llaḏīna yadʿūna min dūnihī lā yastaǧībūna lahum bi-šayˈin ˈillā ka-bāsiṭi kaffayhi ˈilā l-māˈi li-yabluġa fāhu wa-mā huwa bi-bāliġihī wa-mā duʿāˈu l-kāfirīna ˈillā fī ḍalālin
[Only] to Him belongs the true invocation; and those whom they invoke besides Him do not answer them in any wise—like someone who stretches his hands towards water [desiring] that it should reach his mouth, but it does not reach it—and the invocations of the faithless only go awry.
وَلِلَّهِ يَسْجُدُ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا وَظِلَـٰلُهُم بِٱلْغُدُوِّ وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ ۩
wa-li-llāhi yasǧudu man fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi ṭawʿan wa-karhan wa-ẓilāluhum bi-l-ġuduwwi wa-l-ˈāṣāli
To Allah prostrates whoever there is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and their shadows at sunrise and sunset.
قُلْ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ ۚ قُلْ أَفَٱتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمْ نَفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا ۚ قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْبَصِيرُ أَمْ هَلْ تَسْتَوِى ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ وَٱلنُّورُ ۗ أَمْ جَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَآءَ خَلَقُوا۟ كَخَلْقِهِۦ فَتَشَـٰبَهَ ٱلْخَلْقُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ ٱلْوَٰحِدُ ٱلْقَهَّـٰرُ
qul man rabbu s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi quli llāhu qul ˈa-fa-ttaḫaḏtum min dūnihī ˈawliyāˈa lā yamlikūna li-ˈanfusihim nafʿan wa-lā ḍarran qul hal yastawī l-ˈaʿmā wa-l-baṣīru ˈam hal tastawī ẓ-ẓulumātu wa-n-nūru ˈam ǧaʿalū li-llāhi šurakāˈa ḫalaqū ka-ḫalqihī fa-tašābaha l-ḫalqu ʿalayhim quli llāhu ḫāliqu kulli šayˈin wa-huwa l-wāḥidu l-qahhāru
Say, ‘Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?’ Say, ‘Allah!’ Say, ‘Have you then taken others besides Him for guardians, who have no control over their own benefit or harm?’ Say, ‘Are the blind one and the seer equal? Are darkness and light equal?’ Have they set up for Allah partners who have created like His creation, so that the creations seemed confusable to them? Say, ‘Allah is the creator of all things, and He is the One and the All-paramount.’
أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَسَالَتْ أَوْدِيَةٌۢ بِقَدَرِهَا فَٱحْتَمَلَ ٱلسَّيْلُ زَبَدًا رَّابِيًا ۚ وَمِمَّا يُوقِدُونَ عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلنَّارِ ٱبْتِغَآءَ حِلْيَةٍ أَوْ مَتَـٰعٍ زَبَدٌ مِّثْلُهُۥ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْحَقَّ وَٱلْبَـٰطِلَ ۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلزَّبَدُ فَيَذْهَبُ جُفَآءً ۖ وَأَمَّا مَا يَنفَعُ ٱلنَّاسَ فَيَمْكُثُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ
ˈanzala mina s-samāˈi māˈan fa-sālat ˈawdiyatun bi-qadarihā fa-ḥtamala s-saylu zabadan rābiyan wa-mimmā yūqidūna ʿalayhi fī n-nāri btiġāˈa ḥilyatin ˈaw matāʿin zabadun miṯluhū ka-ḏālika yaḍribu llāhu l-ḥaqqa wa-l-bāṭila fa-ˈammā z-zabadu fa-yaḏhabu ǧufāˈan wa-ˈammā mā yanfaʿu n-nāsa fa-yamkuṯu fī l-ˈarḍi ka-ḏālika yaḍribu llāhu l-ˈamṯāla
He sends down water from the sky whereat the valleys are flooded to [the extent of] their capacity, and the flood carries along a swelling scum. And from what they smelt in the fire for the purpose of [making] ornaments or wares, [there arises] a similar scum. That is how Allah compares truth and falsehood. As for the scum, it leaves as dross, and that which profits the people stays in the earth. That is how Allah draws comparisons.
لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَهُۥ لَوْ أَنَّ لَهُم مَّا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا وَمِثْلَهُۥ مَعَهُۥ لَٱفْتَدَوْا۟ بِهِۦٓ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلْحِسَابِ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ
li-llaḏīna staǧābū li-rabbihimu l-ḥusnā wa-llaḏīna lam yastaǧībū lahū law ˈanna lahum mā fī l-ˈarḍi ǧamīʿan wa-miṯlahū maʿahū la-ftadaw bihī ˈulāˈika lahum sūˈu l-ḥisābi wa-maˈwāhum ǧahannamu wa-biˈsa l-mihādu
For those who answer [the summons of] their Lord there shall be the best [of rewards]. But those who do not answer Him, even if they possessed all that is on the earth and as much of it besides, they would surely offer it to redeem themselves with it. For such there shall be an adverse reckoning, and their refuge shall be hell, and it is an evil resting place.
أَفَمَن يَعْلَمُ أَنَّمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلْحَقُّ كَمَنْ هُوَ أَعْمَىٰٓ ۚ إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
ˈa-fa-man yaʿlamu ˈannamā ˈunzila ˈilayka min rabbika l-ḥaqqu ka-man huwa ˈaʿmā ˈinnamā yataḏakkaru ˈulū l-ˈalbābi
Is someone who knows that what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, like someone who is blind? Only those who possess intellect take admonition
ٱلَّذِينَ يُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَنقُضُونَ ٱلْمِيثَـٰقَ
allaḏīna yūfūna bi-ʿahdi llāhi wa-lā yanquḍūna l-mīṯāqa
—those who fulfill Allah’s covenant and do not break the pledge solemnly made,
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ وَيَخَافُونَ سُوٓءَ ٱلْحِسَابِ
wa-llaḏīna yaṣilūna mā ˈamara llāhu bihī ˈan yūṣala wa-yaḫšawna rabbahum wa-yaḫāfūna sūˈa l-ḥisābi
and those who join what Allah has commanded to be joined, and fear their Lord, and are afraid of an adverse reckoning
وَٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنفَقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً وَيَدْرَءُونَ بِٱلْحَسَنَةِ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عُقْبَى ٱلدَّارِ
wa-llaḏīna ṣabarū btiġāˈa waǧhi rabbihim wa-ˈaqāmū ṣ-ṣalāta wa-ˈanfaqū mimmā razaqnāhum sirran wa-ʿalāniyatan wa-yadraˈūna bi-l-ḥasanati s-sayyiˈata ˈulāˈika lahum ʿuqbā d-dāri
—those who are patient for the sake of their Lord’s pleasure, maintain the prayer, and spend secretly and openly out of what We have provided them, and repel evil [conduct] with good. For such will be the reward of the [ultimate] abode:
جَنَّـٰتُ عَدْنٍ يَدْخُلُونَهَا وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنْ ءَابَآئِهِمْ وَأَزْوَٰجِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِهِمْ ۖ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَدْخُلُونَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن كُلِّ بَابٍ
ǧannātu ʿadnin yadḫulūnahā wa-man ṣalaḥa min ˈābāˈihim wa-ˈazwāǧihim wa-ḏurriyyātihim wa-l-malāˈikatu yadḫulūna ʿalayhim min kulli bābin
the Gardens of Eden, which they will enter along with whoever is righteous from among their forebears, their spouses, and their descendants, and the angels will call on them from every door:
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُم بِمَا صَبَرْتُمْ ۚ فَنِعْمَ عُقْبَى ٱلدَّارِ
salāmun ʿalaykum bi-mā ṣabartum fa-niʿma ʿuqbā d-dāri
‘Peace be to you, for your patience.’ How excellent is the reward of the [ultimate] abode!
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مِيثَـٰقِهِۦ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَآ أَمَرَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦٓ أَن يُوصَلَ وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۙ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱللَّعْنَةُ وَلَهُمْ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ
wa-llaḏīna yanquḍūna ʿahda llāhi min baʿdi mīṯāqihī wa-yaqṭaʿūna mā ˈamara llāhu bihī ˈan yūṣala wa-yufsidūna fī l-ˈarḍi ˈulāˈika lahumu l-laʿnatu wa-lahum sūˈu d-dāri
But as for those who break Allah’s compact after having pledged it solemnly, and sever what Allah has commanded to be joined, and cause corruption in the earth—it is such on whom the curse will lie, and for them will be the ills of the [ultimate] abode.
ٱللَّهُ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ إِلَّا مَتَـٰعٌ
allāhu yabsuṭu r-rizqa li-man yašāˈu wa-yaqdiru wa-fariḥū bi-l-ḥayāti d-dunyā wa-mā l-ḥayātu d-dunyā fī l-ˈāḫirati ˈillā matāʿun
Allah expands the provision for whomever He wishes, and tightens it. They boast of the life of this world, but compared with the Hereafter the life of this world is but a [trifling] enjoyment.
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِىٓ إِلَيْهِ مَنْ أَنَابَ
wa-yaqūlu llaḏīna kafarū law-lā ˈunzila ʿalayhi ˈāyatun min rabbihī qul ˈinna llāha yuḍillu man yašāˈu wa-yahdī ˈilayhi man ˈanāba
The faithless say, ‘Why has not some sign been sent down to him from his Lord?’ Say, ‘Indeed Allah leads astray whomever He wishes, and guides to Himself those who turn penitently [to Him]
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ
allaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-taṭmaˈinnu qulūbuhum bi-ḏikri llāhi ˈa-lā bi-ḏikri llāhi taṭmaˈinnu l-qulūbu
—those who have faith and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah.’ Behold! The hearts find rest in Allah’s remembrance!
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ طُوبَىٰ لَهُمْ وَحُسْنُ مَـَٔابٍ
allaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti ṭūbā lahum wa-ḥusnu maˈābin
Those who have faith and do righteous deeds—happy are they and good is their [ultimate] destination.
كَذَٰلِكَ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ فِىٓ أُمَّةٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهَآ أُمَمٌ لِّتَتْلُوَا۟ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ قُلْ هُوَ رَبِّى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ مَتَابِ
ka-ḏālika ˈarsalnāka fī ˈummatin qad ḫalat min qablihā ˈumamun li-tatluwa ʿalayhimu llaḏī ˈawḥaynā ˈilayka wa-hum yakfurūna bi-r-raḥmāni qul huwa rabbī lā ˈilāha ˈillā huwa ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wa-ˈilayhi matābi
Thus have We sent you to a nation before which many nations have passed away, that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they defy the All-beneficent. Say, ‘He is my Lord; there is no god except Him; in Him I have put my trust, and to Him will be my return.’
وَلَوْ أَنَّ قُرْءَانًا سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ ٱلْجِبَالُ أَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضُ أَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۗ بَل لِّلَّهِ ٱلْأَمْرُ جَمِيعًا ۗ أَفَلَمْ يَا۟يْـَٔسِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ لَهَدَى ٱلنَّاسَ جَمِيعًا ۗ وَلَا يَزَالُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ تُصِيبُهُم بِمَا صَنَعُوا۟ قَارِعَةٌ أَوْ تَحُلُّ قَرِيبًا مِّن دَارِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِىَ وَعْدُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ ٱلْمِيعَادَ
wa-law ˈanna qurˈānan suyyirat bihi l-ǧibālu ˈaw quṭṭiʿat bihi l-ˈarḍu ˈaw kullima bihi l-mawtā bal li-llāhi l-ˈamru ǧamīʿan ˈa-fa-lam yayˈasi llaḏīna ˈāmanū ˈan law yašāˈu llāhu la-hadā n-nāsa ǧamīʿan wa-lā yazālu llaḏīna kafarū tuṣībuhum bi-mā ṣanaʿū qāriʿatun ˈaw taḥullu qarīban min dārihim ḥattā yaˈtiya waʿdu llāhi ˈinna llāha lā yuḫlifu l-mīʿāda
If only it were a Quran whereby the mountains could be moved, or the earth could be toured, or the dead could be spoken to.... Indeed, all dispensation belongs to Allah. Have not the faithful yet realised that had Allah wished He would have guided mankind all together? The faithless will continue to be visited by catastrophes because of their doings—or they will land near their habitations—until Allah’s promise comes to pass. Indeed Allah does not break His promise.
وَلَقَدِ ٱسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَمْلَيْتُ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ثُمَّ أَخَذْتُهُمْ ۖ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ
wa-la-qadi stuhziˈa bi-rusulin min qablika fa-ˈamlaytu li-llaḏīna kafarū ṯumma ˈaḫaḏtuhum fa-kayfa kāna ʿiqābi
Apostles were certainly derided before you. But then I gave respite to those who were faithless, then I seized them; so how was My retribution?
أَفَمَنْ هُوَ قَآئِمٌ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ ۗ وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَآءَ قُلْ سَمُّوهُمْ ۚ أَمْ تُنَبِّـُٔونَهُۥ بِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَم بِظَـٰهِرٍ مِّنَ ٱلْقَوْلِ ۗ بَلْ زُيِّنَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مَكْرُهُمْ وَصُدُّوا۟ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ ۗ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنْ هَادٍ
ˈa-fa-man huwa qāˈimun ʿalā kulli nafsin bi-mā kasabat wa-ǧaʿalū li-llāhi šurakāˈa qul sammūhum ˈam tunabbiˈūnahū bi-mā lā yaʿlamu fī l-ˈarḍi ˈam bi-ẓāhirin mina l-qawli bal zuyyina li-llaḏīna kafarū makruhum wa-ṣuddū ʿani s-sabīli wa-man yuḍlili llāhu fa-mā lahū min hādin
Is He who sustains every soul in spite of what it earns [comparable to the idols]? Yet they ascribe partners to Allah! Say, ‘Name them!’ Will you inform Him concerning something He does not know about on the earth, or concerning [what are] mere words? Indeed, to the faithless, their scheming is presented as decorous, and they have been barred from the [right] way; and whomever Allah leads astray, has no guide.
لَّهُمْ عَذَابٌ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَشَقُّ ۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقٍ
lahum ʿaḏābun fī l-ḥayāti d-dunyā wa-la-ʿaḏābu l-ˈāḫirati ˈašaqqu wa-mā lahum mina llāhi min wāqin
There is a punishment for them in the life of this world, and the punishment of the Hereafter will surely be harder, and they have no defender against Allah.
مَّثَلُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى وُعِدَ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ أُكُلُهَا دَآئِمٌ وَظِلُّهَا ۚ تِلْكَ عُقْبَى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ ۖ وَّعُقْبَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ٱلنَّارُ
maṯalu l-ǧannati llatī wuʿida l-muttaqūna taǧrī min taḥtihā l-ˈanhāru ˈukuluhā dāˈimun wa-ẓilluhā tilka ʿuqbā llaḏīna ttaqaw wa-ʿuqbā l-kāfirīna n-nāru
A description of the paradise promised to the Godwary: streams run in it, its fruits and shade are everlasting. Such is the requital of those who are Godwary; and the requital of the faithless is the Fire.
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَمِنَ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ مَن يُنكِرُ بَعْضَهُۥ ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱللَّهَ وَلَآ أُشْرِكَ بِهِۦٓ ۚ إِلَيْهِ أَدْعُوا۟ وَإِلَيْهِ مَـَٔابِ
wa-llaḏīna ˈātaynāhumu l-kitāba yafraḥūna bi-mā ˈunzila ˈilayka wa-mina l-ˈaḥzābi man yunkiru baʿḍahū qul ˈinnamā ˈumirtu ˈan ˈaʿbuda llāha wa-lā ˈušrika bihī ˈilayhi ˈadʿū wa-ˈilayhi maˈābi
Those whom We have given the Book rejoice in what has been sent down to you. Some of the factions deny a part of it. Say, ‘Indeed I have been commanded to worship Allah and not to ascribe any partner to Him. To Him do I summon [all mankind] and to Him will be my return.’
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ حُكْمًا عَرَبِيًّا ۚ وَلَئِنِ ٱتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَآءَهُم بَعْدَ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ مَا لَكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا وَاقٍ
wa-ka-ḏālika ˈanzalnāhu ḥukman ʿarabiyyan wa-la-ˈini ttabaʿta ˈahwāˈahum baʿda mā ǧāˈaka mina l-ʿilmi mā laka mina llāhi min waliyyin wa-lā wāqin
Thus We have sent it down as a dispensation in Arabic; and should you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you shall have against Allah neither any guardian nor defender.
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلًا مِّن قَبْلِكَ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا وَذُرِّيَّةً ۚ وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن يَأْتِىَ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ
wa-la-qad ˈarsalnā rusulan min qablika wa-ǧaʿalnā lahum ˈazwāǧan wa-ḏurriyyatan wa-mā kāna li-rasūlin ˈan yaˈtiya bi-ˈāyatin ˈillā bi-ˈiḏni llāhi li-kulli ˈaǧalin kitābun
Certainly We have sent apostles before you, and We appointed for them wives and descendants; and an apostle may not bring a sign except by Allah’s leave. There is a written [ordinance] for every term:
يَمْحُوا۟ ٱللَّهُ مَا يَشَآءُ وَيُثْبِتُ ۖ وَعِندَهُۥٓ أُمُّ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
yamḥū llāhu mā yašāˈu wa-yuṯbitu wa-ʿindahū ˈummu l-kitābi
Allah effaces and confirms whatever He wishes and with Him is the Mother Book.
وَإِن مَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ وَعَلَيْنَا ٱلْحِسَابُ
wa-ˈin mā nuriyannaka baʿḍa llaḏī naʿiduhum ˈaw natawaffayannaka fa-ˈinnamā ʿalayka l-balāġu wa-ʿalaynā l-ḥisābu
Whether We show you a part of what We promise them, or take you away [before that], your duty is only to communicate, and it is for Us to do the reckoning.
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا نَأْتِى ٱلْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ لَا مُعَقِّبَ لِحُكْمِهِۦ ۚ وَهُوَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
ˈa-wa-lam yaraw ˈannā naˈtī l-ˈarḍa nanquṣuhā min ˈaṭrāfihā wa-llāhu yaḥkumu lā muʿaqqiba li-ḥukmihī wa-huwa sarīʿu l-ḥisābi
Have they not seen how We visit the land diminishing it at its edges? Allah judges, and there is none who may repeal His judgement, and He is swift at reckoning.
وَقَدْ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْمَكْرُ جَمِيعًا ۖ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ ٱلْكُفَّـٰرُ لِمَنْ عُقْبَى ٱلدَّارِ
wa-qad makara llaḏīna min qablihim fa-li-llāhi l-makru ǧamīʿan yaʿlamu mā taksibu kullu nafsin wa-sa-yaʿlamu l-kuffāru li-man ʿuqbā d-dāri
Those who were before them [also] schemed; yet all devising belongs to Allah. He knows what every soul earns. Soon the faithless will know in whose favour the outcome of that abode will be.
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَسْتَ مُرْسَلًا ۚ قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدًۢا بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَمَنْ عِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ
wa-yaqūlu llaḏīna kafarū lasta mursalan qul kafā bi-llāhi šahīdan baynī wa-baynakum wa-man ʿindahū ʿilmu l-kitābi
The faithless say, ‘You have not been sent [by Allah].’ Say, ‘Allah suffices as a witness between me and you, and he who possesses the knowledge of the Book.’
