Surah 17
سُورَةُ الإِسۡرَاءِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِۦ لَيْلًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ إِلَى ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْأَقْصَا ٱلَّذِى بَـٰرَكْنَا حَوْلَهُۥ لِنُرِيَهُۥ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَآ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
subḥāna llaḏī ˈasrā bi-ʿabdihī laylan mina l-masǧidi l-ḥarāmi ˈilā l-masǧidi l-ˈaqṣā llaḏī bāraknā ḥawlahū li-nuriyahū min ˈāyātinā ˈinnahū huwa s-samīʿu l-baṣīru
Immaculate is He who carried His servant on a journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose environs We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing.
وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ هُدًى لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِى وَكِيلًا
wa-ˈātaynā mūsā l-kitāba wa-ǧaʿalnāhu hudan li-banī ˈisrāˈīla ˈallā tattaḫiḏū min dūnī wakīlan
We gave Moses the Book, and made it a guide for the Children of Israel—[saying,] ‘Do not take any trustee besides Me’—
ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا
ḏurriyyata man ḥamalnā maʿa nūḥin ˈinnahū kāna ʿabdan šakūran
descendants of those whom We carried [in the ark] with Noah. Indeed, he was a grateful servant.
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَتُفْسِدُنَّ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَتَعْلُنَّ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا
wa-qaḍaynā ˈilā banī ˈisrāˈīla fī l-kitābi la-tufsidunna fī l-ˈarḍi marratayni wa-la-taʿlunna ʿuluwwan kabīran
We revealed to the Children of Israel in the Book: ‘Twice you will cause corruption on the earth, and you will perpetrate great tyranny.’
فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ أُولَىٰهُمَا بَعَثْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ عِبَادًا لَّنَآ أُو۟لِى بَأْسٍ شَدِيدٍ فَجَاسُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَ ٱلدِّيَارِ ۚ وَكَانَ وَعْدًا مَّفْعُولًا
fa-ˈiḏā ǧāˈa waʿdu ˈūlāhumā baʿaṯnā ʿalaykum ʿibādan lanā ˈulī baˈsin šadīdin fa-ǧāsū ḫilāla d-diyāri wa-kāna waʿdan mafʿūlan
So when the first occasion of the two [prophecies] came, We aroused against you Our servants possessing great might, and they ransacked [your] habitations, and the promise was bound to be fulfilled.
ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَا لَكُمُ ٱلْكَرَّةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰكُمْ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيرًا
ṯumma radadnā lakumu l-karrata ʿalayhim wa-ˈamdadnākum bi-ˈamwālin wa-banīna wa-ǧaʿalnākum ˈakṯara nafīran
Then We gave you back the turn [to prevail] over them, and We aided you with children and wealth, and made you greater in number,
إِنْ أَحْسَنتُمْ أَحْسَنتُمْ لِأَنفُسِكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ أَسَأْتُمْ فَلَهَا ۚ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لِيَسُـۥٓـُٔوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ وَلِيَدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْمَسْجِدَ كَمَا دَخَلُوهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَلِيُتَبِّرُوا۟ مَا عَلَوْا۟ تَتْبِيرًا
ˈin ˈaḥsantum ˈaḥsantum li-ˈanfusikum wa-ˈin ˈasaˈtum fa-lahā fa-ˈiḏā ǧāˈa waʿdu l-ˈāḫirati li-yasūˈū wuǧūhakum wa-li-yadḫulū l-masǧida ka-mā daḫalūhu ˈawwala marratin wa-li-yutabbirū mā ʿalaw tatbīran
[saying,] ‘If you do good, you will do good to your [own] souls, and if you do evil, it will be [evil] for them.’ So when the occasion for the other [prophecy] comes, they will make your faces wretched, and enter the Temple just as they entered it the first time, and destroy utterly whatever they come upon.
عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يَرْحَمَكُمْ ۚ وَإِنْ عُدتُّمْ عُدْنَا ۘ وَجَعَلْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ حَصِيرًا
ʿasā rabbukum ˈan yarḥamakum wa-ˈin ʿudtum ʿudnā wa-ǧaʿalnā ǧahannama li-l-kāfirīna ḥaṣīran
Maybe your Lord will have mercy on you, but if you revert, We [too] will revert, and We have made hell a prison for the faithless.
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ يَهْدِى لِلَّتِى هِىَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا
ˈinna hāḏā l-qurˈāna yahdī li-llatī hiya ˈaqwamu wa-yubašširu l-muˈminīna llaḏīna yaʿmalūna ṣ-ṣāliḥāti ˈanna lahum ˈaǧran kabīran
Indeed this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives the good news to the faithful who do righteous deeds that there is a great reward for them.
وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا
wa-ˈanna llaḏīna lā yuˈminūna bi-l-ˈāḫirati ˈaʿtadnā lahum ʿaḏāban ˈalīman
As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have prepared a painful punishment for them.
وَيَدْعُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ بِٱلشَّرِّ دُعَآءَهُۥ بِٱلْخَيْرِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَجُولًا
wa-yadʿu l-ˈinsānu bi-š-šarri duʿāˈahū bi-l-ḫayri wa-kāna l-ˈinsānu ʿaǧūlan
Man prays for ill as [avidly as] he prays for good, and man is overhasty.
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ءَايَتَيْنِ ۖ فَمَحَوْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَجَعَلْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلنَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً لِّتَبْتَغُوا۟ فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلِتَعْلَمُوا۟ عَدَدَ ٱلسِّنِينَ وَٱلْحِسَابَ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ فَصَّلْنَـٰهُ تَفْصِيلًا
wa-ǧaʿalnā l-layla wa-n-nahāra ˈāyatayni fa-maḥawnā ˈāyata l-layli wa-ǧaʿalnā ˈāyata n-nahāri mubṣiratan li-tabtaġū faḍlan min rabbikum wa-li-taʿlamū ʿadada s-sinīna wa-l-ḥisāba wa-kulla šayˈin faṣṣalnāhu tafṣīlan
We made the night and the day two signs. Then We faded out the sign of the night, and made the sign of the day lightsome, so that you may seek from your Lord’s bounty and that you may know the number of years and calculation [of time], and We have elaborated everything in detail.
وَكُلَّ إِنسَـٰنٍ أَلْزَمْنَـٰهُ طَـٰٓئِرَهُۥ فِى عُنُقِهِۦ ۖ وَنُخْرِجُ لَهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ كِتَـٰبًا يَلْقَىٰهُ مَنشُورًا
wa-kulla ˈinsānin ˈalzamnāhu ṭāˈirahū fī ʿunuqihī wa-nuḫriǧu lahū yawma l-qiyāmati kitāban yalqāhu manšūran-i
We have attached every person’s omen to his neck, and We shall bring it out for him on the Day of Resurrection as a book that he will find wide open.
ٱقْرَأْ كِتَـٰبَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيبًا
iqraˈ kitābaka kafā bi-nafsika l-yawma ʿalayka ḥasīban
‘Read your book! Today your soul suffices as your own reckoner.’
مَّنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِى لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا ۚ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ ۗ وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا
mani htadā fa-ˈinnamā yahtadī li-nafsihī wa-man ḍalla fa-ˈinnamā yaḍillu ʿalayhā wa-lā taziru wāziratun wizra ˈuḫrā wa-mā kunnā muʿaḏḏibīna ḥattā nabʿaṯa rasūlan
Whoever is guided is guided only for [the good of] his own soul, and whoever goes astray, goes astray only to its detriment. No bearer shall bear another’s burden. We do not punish [any community] until We have sent [it] an apostle.
وَإِذَآ أَرَدْنَآ أَن نُّهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً أَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُوا۟ فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا ٱلْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَـٰهَا تَدْمِيرًا
wa-ˈiḏā ˈaradnā ˈan nuhlika qaryatan ˈamarnā mutrafīhā fa-fasaqū fīhā fa-ḥaqqa ʿalayhā l-qawlu fa-dammarnāhā tadmīran
And when We desire to destroy a town We command its affluent ones [to obey Allah]. But they commit transgression in it, and so the word becomes due against it, and We destroy it utterly.
وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ نُوحٍ ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا
wa-kam ˈahlaknā mina l-qurūni min baʿdi nūḥin wa-kafā bi-rabbika bi-ḏunūbi ʿibādihī ḫabīran baṣīran
How many generations We have destroyed since Noah! Your Lord is sufficient as [a witness who is] well aware and percipient of His servants’ sins.
مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُۥ فِيهَا مَا نَشَآءُ لِمَن نُّرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَىٰهَا مَذْمُومًا مَّدْحُورًا
man kāna yurīdu l-ʿāǧilata ʿaǧǧalnā lahū fīhā mā našāˈu li-man nurīdu ṯumma ǧaʿalnā lahū ǧahannama yaṣlāhā maḏmūman madḥūran
Whoever desires this transitory life, We expedite for him therein whatever We wish, for whomever We desire. Then We appoint hell for him, to enter it, blameful and spurned.
وَمَنْ أَرَادَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُم مَّشْكُورًا
wa-man ˈarāda l-ˈāḫirata wa-saʿā lahā saʿyahā wa-huwa muˈminun fa-ˈulāˈika kāna saʿyuhum maškūran
Whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it with an endeavour worthy of it, should he be faithful,—the endeavour of such will be well-appreciated.
كُلًّا نُّمِدُّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مِنْ عَطَآءِ رَبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ عَطَآءُ رَبِّكَ مَحْظُورًا
kullan numiddu hāˈulāˈi wa-hāˈulāˈi min ʿaṭāˈi rabbika wa-mā kāna ʿaṭāˈu rabbika maḥẓūran-i
To these and to those—to all We extend the bounty of your Lord, and the bounty of your Lord is not confined.
ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ وَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُ أَكْبَرُ دَرَجَـٰتٍ وَأَكْبَرُ تَفْضِيلًا
unẓur kayfa faḍḍalnā baʿḍahum ʿalā baʿḍin wa-la-l-ˈāḫiratu ˈakbaru daraǧātin wa-ˈakbaru tafḍīlan
Observe how We have given some of them an advantage over some others; yet the Hereafter is surely greater in respect of ranks and greater in respect of relative merit.
لَّا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَقْعُدَ مَذْمُومًا مَّخْذُولًا
lā taǧʿal maʿa llāhi ˈilāhan ˈāḫara fa-taqʿuda maḏmūman maḫḏūlan
Do not set up another god besides Allah, or you will sit blameworthy, forsaken.
وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَـٰنًا ۚ إِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوْ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفٍّ وَلَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلًا كَرِيمًا
wa-qaḍā rabbuka ˈallā taʿbudū ˈillā ˈiyyāhu wa-bi-l-wālidayni ˈiḥsānan ˈimmā yabluġanna ʿindaka l-kibara ˈaḥaduhumā ˈaw kilāhumā fa-lā taqul lahumā ˈuffin wa-lā tanharhumā wa-qul lahumā qawlan karīman
Your Lord has decreed that you shall not worship anyone except Him, and [He has enjoined] kindness to parents. Should any of them or both reach old age at your side, do not say to them, ‘Fie!’ And do not chide them, but speak to them noble words.
وَٱخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِى صَغِيرًا
wa-ḫfiḍ lahumā ǧanāḥa ḏ-ḏulli mina r-raḥmati wa-qul rabbi rḥamhumā ka-mā rabbayānī ṣaġīran
Lower the wing of humility to them, mercifully, and say, ‘My Lord! Have mercy on them, just as they reared me when I was [a] small [child]!’
رَّبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِى نُفُوسِكُمْ ۚ إِن تَكُونُوا۟ صَـٰلِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِلْأَوَّٰبِينَ غَفُورًا
rabbukum ˈaʿlamu bi-mā fī nufūsikum ˈin takūnū ṣāliḥīna fa-ˈinnahū kāna li-l-ˈawwābīna ġafūran
Your Lord knows best what is in your hearts. Should you be righteous, He is indeed most forgiving toward penitents.
وَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلْمِسْكِينَ وَٱبْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيرًا
wa-ˈāti ḏā l-qurbā ḥaqqahū wa-l-miskīna wa-bna s-sabīli wa-lā tubaḏḏir tabḏīran
Give the relatives their [due] right, and the needy and the traveller [as well], but do not squander wastefully.
إِنَّ ٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓا۟ إِخْوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورًا
ˈinna l-mubaḏḏirīna kānū ˈiḫwāna š-šayāṭīni wa-kāna š-šayṭānu li-rabbihī kafūran
Indeed the wasteful are brothers of satans, and Satan is ungrateful to his Lord.
وَإِمَّا تُعْرِضَنَّ عَنْهُمُ ٱبْتِغَآءَ رَحْمَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكَ تَرْجُوهَا فَقُل لَّهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّيْسُورًا
wa-ˈimmā tuʿriḍanna ʿanhumu btiġāˈa raḥmatin min rabbika tarǧūhā fa-qul lahum qawlan maysūran
And if you have to hold off from [assisting] them [for now], seeking your Lord’s mercy which you expect [in the future], speak to them gentle words.
وَلَا تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً إِلَىٰ عُنُقِكَ وَلَا تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ ٱلْبَسْطِ فَتَقْعُدَ مَلُومًا مَّحْسُورًا
wa-lā taǧʿal yadaka maġlūlatan ˈilā ʿunuqika wa-lā tabsuṭhā kulla l-basṭi fa-taqʿuda malūman maḥsūran
Do not keep your hand chained to your neck, nor open it altogether, or you will sit blameworthy and regretful.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا
ˈinna rabbaka yabsuṭu r-rizqa li-man yašāˈu wa-yaqdiru ˈinnahū kāna bi-ʿibādihī ḫabīran baṣīran
Indeed your Lord expands the provision for whomever He wishes, and tightens it. Indeed, He is well aware of His servants and a keen observer.
وَلَا تَقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَوْلَـٰدَكُمْ خَشْيَةَ إِمْلَـٰقٍ ۖ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُهُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ كَانَ خِطْـًٔا كَبِيرًا
wa-lā taqtulū ˈawlādakum ḫašyata ˈimlāqin naḥnu narzuquhum wa-ˈiyyākum ˈinna qatlahum kāna ḫiṭˈan kabīran
Do not kill your children for the fear of penury: We will provide for them and for you. Killing them is indeed a great iniquity.
وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلزِّنَىٰٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَـٰحِشَةً وَسَآءَ سَبِيلًا
wa-lā taqrabū z-zinā ˈinnahū kāna fāḥišatan wa-sāˈa sabīlan
Do not approach fornication. It is indeed an indecency and an evil way.
وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا۟ ٱلنَّفْسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَمَن قُتِلَ مَظْلُومًا فَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا لِوَلِيِّهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا فَلَا يُسْرِف فِّى ٱلْقَتْلِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مَنصُورًا
wa-lā taqtulū n-nafsa llatī ḥarrama llāhu ˈillā bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-man qutila maẓlūman fa-qad ǧaʿalnā li-waliyyihī sulṭānan fa-lā yusrif fī l-qatli ˈinnahū kāna manṣūran
Do not kill a soul [whose life] Allah has made inviolable, except with due cause, and whoever is killed wrongfully, We have certainly given his heir an authority. But let him not commit any excess in killing [the murderer], for he has been assisted [by law].
وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ مَالَ ٱلْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِٱلْعَهْدِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـُٔولًا
wa-lā taqrabū māla l-yatīmi ˈillā bi-llatī hiya ˈaḥsanu ḥattā yabluġa ˈašuddahū wa-ˈawfū bi-l-ʿahdi ˈinna l-ʿahda kāna masˈūlan
Do not approach the orphan’s property except in the best manner, until he comes of age. Fulfill the covenants; indeed all covenants are accountable.
وَأَوْفُوا۟ ٱلْكَيْلَ إِذَا كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُوا۟ بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا
wa-ˈawfū l-kayla ˈiḏā kiltum wa-zinū bi-l-qisṭāsi l-mustaqīmi ḏālika ḫayrun wa-ˈaḥsanu taˈwīlan
When you measure, observe fully the measure, [and] weigh with an even balance. That is better and more favourable with respect to the outcome [in the Hereafter].
وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْبَصَرَ وَٱلْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْـُٔولًا
wa-lā taqfu mā laysa laka bihī ʿilmun ˈinna s-samʿa wa-l-baṣara wa-l-fuˈāda kullu ˈulāˈika kāna ʿanhu masˈūlan
Do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed hearing, eyesight, and the heart—all of these are accountable.
وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّكَ لَن تَخْرِقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَلَن تَبْلُغَ ٱلْجِبَالَ طُولًا
wa-lā tamši fī l-ˈarḍi maraḥan ˈinnaka lan taḫriqa l-ˈarḍa wa-lan tabluġa l-ǧibāla ṭūlan
Do not walk exultantly on the earth. Indeed, you will neither pierce the earth, nor reach the mountains in height.
كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ كَانَ سَيِّئُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّكَ مَكْرُوهًا
kullu ḏālika kāna sayyiˈuhū ʿinda rabbika makrūhan
The evil of all these is detestable to your Lord.
ذَٰلِكَ مِمَّآ أَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ مِنَ ٱلْحِكْمَةِ ۗ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتُلْقَىٰ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَلُومًا مَّدْحُورًا
ḏālika mimmā ˈawḥā ˈilayka rabbuka mina l-ḥikmati wa-lā taǧʿal maʿa llāhi ˈilāhan ˈāḫara fa-tulqā fī ǧahannama malūman madḥūran
These are among [precepts] that your Lord has revealed to you of wisdom. Do not set up another god besides Allah, or you will be cast into hell, being blameworthy and banished [from His mercy].
أَفَأَصْفَىٰكُمْ رَبُّكُم بِٱلْبَنِينَ وَٱتَّخَذَ مِنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنَـٰثًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُولُونَ قَوْلًا عَظِيمًا
ˈa-fa-ˈaṣfākum rabbukum bi-l-banīna wa-ttaḫaḏa mina l-malāˈikati ˈināṯan ˈinnakum la-taqūlūna qawlan ʿaẓīman
Did your Lord prefer you for sons, and [Himself] adopt females from among the angels? Indeed, you say a monstrous word!
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِيَذَّكَّرُوا۟ وَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا
wa-la-qad ṣarrafnā fī hāḏā l-qurˈāni li-yaḏḏakkarū wa-mā yazīduhum ˈillā nufūran
Certainly We have variously paraphrased [the principles of guidance] in this Quran so that they may take admonition, but it increases them only in aversion.
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ مَعَهُۥٓ ءَالِهَةٌ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذًا لَّٱبْتَغَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ سَبِيلًا
qul law kāna maʿahū ˈālihatun ka-mā yaqūlūna ˈiḏan la-btaġaw ˈilā ḏī l-ʿarši sabīlan
Say, ‘Were there [other] gods besides Him, as they say, they would surely have encroached on the Lord of the Throne.
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا
subḥānahū wa-taʿālā ʿammā yaqūlūna ʿuluwwan kabīran
Immaculate is He, and greatly exalted above what they say!’
تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ٱلسَّبْعُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا
tusabbiḥu lahu s-samāwātu s-sabʿu wa-l-ˈarḍu wa-man fīhinna wa-ˈin min šayˈin ˈillā yusabbiḥu bi-ḥamdihī wa-lākin lā tafqahūna tasbīḥahum ˈinnahū kāna ḥalīman ġafūran
The seven heavens glorify Him, and the earth [too], and whoever is in them. There is not a thing but celebrates His praise, but you do not understand their glorification. Indeed, He is all-forbearing, all-forgiving.
وَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ جَعَلْنَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ حِجَابًا مَّسْتُورًا
wa-ˈiḏā qaraˈta l-qurˈāna ǧaʿalnā baynaka wa-bayna llaḏīna lā yuˈminūna bi-l-ˈāḫirati ḥiǧāban mastūran
When you recite the Quran, We draw a hidden curtain between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter,
وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۚ وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِى ٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَحْدَهُۥ وَلَّوْا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَـٰرِهِمْ نُفُورًا
wa-ǧaʿalnā ʿalā qulūbihim ˈakinnatan ˈan yafqahūhu wa-fī ˈāḏānihim waqran wa-ˈiḏā ḏakarta rabbaka fī l-qurˈāni waḥdahū wallaw ʿalā ˈadbārihim nufūran
and We cast veils on their hearts, lest they should understand it, and a deafness into their ears. When you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn their backs in aversion.
نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَسْتَمِعُونَ بِهِۦٓ إِذْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذْ هُمْ نَجْوَىٰٓ إِذْ يَقُولُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلًا مَّسْحُورًا
naḥnu ˈaʿlamu bi-mā yastamiʿūna bihī ˈiḏ yastamiʿūna ˈilayka wa-ˈiḏ hum naǧwā ˈiḏ yaqūlū ẓ-ẓālimūna ˈin tattabiʿūna ˈillā raǧulan masḥūran-i
We know best what they listen for, when they listen to you, and when they hold their secret talks, when the wrongdoers say, ‘[If you follow him] You will be following just a bewitched man.’
ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ فَضَلُّوا۟ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلًا
unẓur kayfa ḍarabū laka l-ˈamṯāla fa-ḍallū fa-lā yastaṭīʿūna sabīlan
Look, how they coin epithets for you; so they go astray, and cannot find a way.
وَقَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا وَرُفَـٰتًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا
wa-qālū ˈa-ˈiḏā kunnā ʿiẓāman wa-rufātan ˈa-ˈinnā la-mabʿūṯūna ḫalqan ǧadīdan
They say, ‘What, when we have become bones and dust, shall we really be raised in a new creation?’
قُلْ كُونُوا۟ حِجَارَةً أَوْ حَدِيدًا
qul kūnū ḥiǧāratan ˈaw ḥadīdan
Say, ‘[That is bound to happen] even if you should become stones, or iron,
أَوْ خَلْقًا مِّمَّا يَكْبُرُ فِى صُدُورِكُمْ ۚ فَسَيَقُولُونَ مَن يُعِيدُنَا ۖ قُلِ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۚ فَسَيُنْغِضُونَ إِلَيْكَ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هُوَ ۖ قُلْ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ قَرِيبًا
ˈaw ḫalqan mimmā yakburu fī ṣudūrikum fa-sa-yaqūlūna man yuʿīdunā quli llaḏī faṭarakum ˈawwala marratin fa-sa-yunġiḍūna ˈilayka ruˈūsahum wa-yaqūlūna matā huwa qul ʿasā ˈan yakūna qarīban
or a creature more fantastic to your minds!’ They will say, ‘Who will bring us back?’ Say, ‘He who originated you the first time.’ They will nod their heads at you, and say, ‘When will that be?’ Say, ‘Maybe it is near!
يَوْمَ يَدْعُوكُمْ فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَتَظُنُّونَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
yawma yadʿūkum fa-tastaǧībūna bi-ḥamdihī wa-taẓunnūna ˈin labiṯtum ˈillā qalīlan
The day He calls you, you will respond to Him, praising Him, and you will think you remained [in the world] only for a little while.’
وَقُل لِّعِبَادِى يَقُولُوا۟ ٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ يَنزَغُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ كَانَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ عَدُوًّا مُّبِينًا
wa-qul li-ʿibādī yaqūlū llatī hiya ˈaḥsanu ˈinna š-šayṭāna yanzaġu baynahum ˈinna š-šayṭāna kāna li-l-ˈinsāni ʿaduwwan mubīnan
Tell My servants to speak in a manner which is the best. Indeed Satan incites ill feeling between them, and Satan is indeed man’s manifest enemy.
رَّبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ ۖ إِن يَشَأْ يَرْحَمْكُمْ أَوْ إِن يَشَأْ يُعَذِّبْكُمْ ۚ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكِيلًا
rabbukum ˈaʿlamu bikum ˈin yašaˈ yarḥamkum ˈaw ˈin yašaˈ yuʿaḏḏibkum wa-mā ˈarsalnāka ʿalayhim wakīlan
Your Lord knows you best. He will have mercy on you if He wishes, or punish you, if He wishes, and We did not send you to watch over them.
وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَلَقَدْ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَا دَاوُۥدَ زَبُورًا
wa-rabbuka ˈaʿlamu bi-man fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-la-qad faḍḍalnā baʿḍa n-nabiyyīna ʿalā baʿḍin wa-ˈātaynā dāwūda zabūran
Your Lord knows best whoever is in the heavens and the earth. Certainly, We gave some prophets an advantage over the others, and We gave David the Psalms.
قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ كَشْفَ ٱلضُّرِّ عَنكُمْ وَلَا تَحْوِيلًا
quli dʿū llaḏīna zaʿamtum min dūnihī fa-lā yamlikūna kašfa ḍ-ḍurri ʿankum wa-lā taḥwīlan
Say, ‘Invoke those whom you claim [to be gods] besides Him. They have no power to remove your distress, nor to bring about any change [in your state].
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمُ ٱلْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُۥ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُورًا
ˈulāˈika llaḏīna yadʿūna yabtaġūna ˈilā rabbihimu l-wasīlata ˈayyuhum ˈaqrabu wa-yarǧūna raḥmatahū wa-yaḫāfūna ʿaḏābahū ˈinna ʿaḏāba rabbika kāna maḥḏūran
They [themselves] are the ones who supplicate, seeking a recourse to their Lord, whoever is nearer [to Him], expecting His mercy and fearing His punishment.’ Indeed your Lord’s punishment is a thing to beware of.
وَإِن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا نَحْنُ مُهْلِكُوهَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ أَوْ مُعَذِّبُوهَا عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا ۚ كَانَ ذَٰلِكَ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مَسْطُورًا
wa-ˈin min qaryatin ˈillā naḥnu muhlikūhā qabla yawmi l-qiyāmati ˈaw muʿaḏḏibūhā ʿaḏāban šadīdan kāna ḏālika fī l-kitābi masṭūran
There is not a town but We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection, or punish it with a severe punishment. That has been written in the Book.
وَمَا مَنَعَنَآ أَن نُّرْسِلَ بِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ إِلَّآ أَن كَذَّبَ بِهَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ ۚ وَءَاتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ ٱلنَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةً فَظَلَمُوا۟ بِهَا ۚ وَمَا نُرْسِلُ بِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ إِلَّا تَخْوِيفًا
wa-mā manaʿanā ˈan nursila bi-l-ˈāyāti ˈillā ˈan kaḏḏaba bihā l-ˈawwalūna wa-ˈātaynā ṯamūda n-nāqata mubṣiratan fa-ẓalamū bihā wa-mā nursilu bi-l-ˈāyāti ˈillā taḫwīfan
Nothing keeps Us from sending signs except that the former peoples denied them. We gave Thamud the she-camel as an eye-opener, but they wronged her. We do not send the signs except as warning.
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لَكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ أَحَاطَ بِٱلنَّاسِ ۚ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا ٱلرُّءْيَا ٱلَّتِىٓ أَرَيْنَـٰكَ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَٱلشَّجَرَةَ ٱلْمَلْعُونَةَ فِى ٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا طُغْيَـٰنًا كَبِيرًا
wa-ˈiḏ qulnā laka ˈinna rabbaka ˈaḥāṭa bi-n-nāsi wa-mā ǧaʿalnā r-ruˈyā llatī ˈaraynāka ˈillā fitnatan li-n-nāsi wa-š-šaǧarata l-malʿūnata fī l-qurˈāni wa-nuḫawwifuhum fa-mā yazīduhum ˈillā ṭuġyānan kabīran
When We said to you, ‘Indeed your Lord encircles those people,’ We did not appoint the vision that We showed you except as a tribulation for the people and the tree cursed in the Quran. We warn them, but it only increases them in their outrageous rebellion.
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ قَالَ ءَأَسْجُدُ لِمَنْ خَلَقْتَ طِينًا
wa-ˈiḏ qulnā li-l-malāˈikati sǧudū li-ˈādama fa-saǧadū ˈillā ˈiblīsa qāla ˈa-ˈasǧudu li-man ḫalaqta ṭīnan
When We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate before Adam,’ they [all] prostrated, but not Iblis: he said, ‘Shall I prostrate before someone whom You have created from clay?’
قَالَ أَرَءَيْتَكَ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كَرَّمْتَ عَلَىَّ لَئِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
qāla ˈa-raˈaytaka hāḏā llaḏī karramta ʿalayya la-ˈin ˈaḫḫartani ˈilā yawmi l-qiyāmati la-ˈaḥtanikanna ḏurriyyatahū ˈillā qalīlan
Said he, ‘Do You see this one whom You have honoured above me? If You respite me until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely lay my yoke on his progeny, [all] except a few.’
قَالَ ٱذْهَبْ فَمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ جَزَآؤُكُمْ جَزَآءً مَّوْفُورًا
qāla ḏhab fa-man tabiʿaka minhum fa-ˈinna ǧahannama ǧazāˈukum ǧazāˈan mawfūran
Said He, ‘Begone! Whoever of them follows you, indeed the hell shall be your requital, an ample reward.
وَٱسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُم بِصَوْتِكَ وَأَجْلِبْ عَلَيْهِم بِخَيْلِكَ وَرَجِلِكَ وَشَارِكْهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْوَٰلِ وَٱلْأَوْلَـٰدِ وَعِدْهُمْ ۚ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا
wa-stafziz mani staṭaʿta minhum bi-ṣawtika wa-ˈaǧlib ʿalayhim bi-ḫaylika wa-raǧilika wa-šārikhum fī l-ˈamwāli wa-l-ˈawlādi wa-ʿidhum wa-mā yaʿiduhumu š-šayṭānu ˈillā ġurūran
Instigate whomever of them you can with your voice; and rally against them your cavalry and your infantry, and share with them in wealth and children, and make promises to them!’ But Satan promises them nothing but delusion.
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ وَكِيلًا
ˈinna ʿibādī laysa laka ʿalayhim sulṭānun wa-kafā bi-rabbika wakīlan
‘As for My servants, you shall have no authority over them.’ And your Lord suffices as trustee.
رَّبُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُزْجِى لَكُمُ ٱلْفُلْكَ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ لِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا
rabbukumu llaḏī yuzǧī lakumu l-fulka fī l-baḥri li-tabtaġū min faḍlihī ˈinnahū kāna bikum raḥīman
Your Lord is He who drives for you the ships in the sea that you may seek of His bounty. Indeed, He is most merciful to you.
وَإِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ ضَلَّ مَن تَدْعُونَ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ ۖ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ أَعْرَضْتُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ كَفُورًا
wa-ˈiḏā massakumu ḍ-ḍurru fī l-baḥri ḍalla man tadʿūna ˈillā ˈiyyāhu fa-lammā naǧǧākum ˈilā l-barri ˈaʿraḍtum wa-kāna l-ˈinsānu kafūran
When distress befalls you at sea, those whom you invoke besides Him are forsaken. But when He delivers you to land, you are disregardful [of Him]. Man is very ungrateful.
أَفَأَمِنتُمْ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمْ جَانِبَ ٱلْبَرِّ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَكِيلًا
ˈa-fa-ˈamintum ˈan yaḫsifa bikum ǧāniba l-barri ˈaw yursila ʿalaykum ḥāṣiban ṯumma lā taǧidū lakum wakīlan
Do you feel secure that He will not make the coastland swallow you, or He will not unleash upon you a rain of stones? Then you will not find any defender for yourselves.
أَمْ أَمِنتُمْ أَن يُعِيدَكُمْ فِيهِ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ فَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ قَاصِفًا مِّنَ ٱلرِّيحِ فَيُغْرِقَكُم بِمَا كَفَرْتُمْ ۙ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُوا۟ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا بِهِۦ تَبِيعًا
ˈam ˈamintum ˈan yuʿīdakum fīhi tāratan ˈuḫrā fa-yursila ʿalaykum qāṣifan mina r-rīḥi fa-yuġriqakum bi-mā kafartum ṯumma lā taǧidū lakum ʿalaynā bihī tabīʿan
Do you feel secure that He will not send you back into it another time and unleash against you a shattering gale and drown you because of your unfaith? Then you will not find for yourselves any redresser against Us.
وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْبَرِّ وَٱلْبَحْرِ وَرَزَقْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَفَضَّلْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٍ مِّمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْضِيلًا
wa-la-qad karramnā banī ˈādama wa-ḥamalnāhum fī l-barri wa-l-baḥri wa-razaqnāhum mina ṭ-ṭayyibāti wa-faḍḍalnāhum ʿalā kaṯīrin mimman ḫalaqnā tafḍīlan
Certainly We have honoured the Children of Adam, and carried them over land and sea, and provided them with all the good things, and preferred them with a complete preference over many of those We have created.
يَوْمَ نَدْعُوا۟ كُلَّ أُنَاسٍۭ بِإِمَـٰمِهِمْ ۖ فَمَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَـٰبَهُمْ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا
yawma nadʿū kulla ˈunāsin bi-ˈimāmihim fa-man ˈūtiya kitābahū bi-yamīnihī fa-ˈulāˈika yaqraˈūna kitābahum wa-lā yuẓlamūna fatīlan
The day We shall summon every group of people along with their imam, then whoever is given his book in his right hand—they will read it, and they will not be wronged so much as a single date-thread.
وَمَن كَانَ فِى هَـٰذِهِۦٓ أَعْمَىٰ فَهُوَ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَعْمَىٰ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلًا
wa-man kāna fī hāḏihī ˈaʿmā fa-huwa fī l-ˈāḫirati ˈaʿmā wa-ˈaḍallu sabīlan
But whoever has been blind in this [world], will be blind in the Hereafter, and [even] more astray from the [right] way.
وَإِن كَادُوا۟ لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ لِتَفْتَرِىَ عَلَيْنَا غَيْرَهُۥ ۖ وَإِذًا لَّٱتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِيلًا
wa-ˈin kādū la-yaftinūnaka ʿani llaḏī ˈawḥaynā ˈilayka li-taftariya ʿalaynā ġayrahū wa-ˈiḏan la-ttaḫaḏūka ḫalīlan
They were about to beguile you from what Allah has revealed to you so that you may fabricate something other than that against Us, whereat they would have befriended you.
وَلَوْلَآ أَن ثَبَّتْنَـٰكَ لَقَدْ كِدتَّ تَرْكَنُ إِلَيْهِمْ شَيْـًٔا قَلِيلًا
wa-law-lā ˈan ṯabbatnāka la-qad kidta tarkanu ˈilayhim šayˈan qalīlan
And had We not fortified you, certainly you might have inclined toward them a bit.
إِذًا لَّأَذَقْنَـٰكَ ضِعْفَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ وَضِعْفَ ٱلْمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ عَلَيْنَا نَصِيرًا
ˈiḏan la-ˈaḏaqnāka ḍiʿfa l-ḥayāti wa-ḍiʿfa l-mamāti ṯumma lā taǧidu laka ʿalaynā naṣīran
Then We would have surely made you taste a double [punishment] in this life and a double [punishment] after death, and then you would have not found for yourself any helper against Us.
وَإِن كَادُوا۟ لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيُخْرِجُوكَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَإِذًا لَّا يَلْبَثُونَ خِلَـٰفَكَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
wa-ˈin kādū la-yastafizzūnaka mina l-ˈarḍi li-yuḫriǧūka minhā wa-ˈiḏan lā yalbaṯūna ḫilāfaka ˈillā qalīlan
They were about to hound you out of the land, to expel you from it, but then they would not have stayed after you but a little.
سُنَّةَ مَن قَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَا ۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ لِسُنَّتِنَا تَحْوِيلًا
sunnata man qad ˈarsalnā qablaka min rusulinā wa-lā taǧidu li-sunnatinā taḥwīlan
A precedent concerning those We have sent before you from among Our apostles, and you will not find any change in Our precedent.
أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِدُلُوكِ ٱلشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَقُرْءَانَ ٱلْفَجْرِ ۖ إِنَّ قُرْءَانَ ٱلْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا
ˈaqimi ṣ-ṣalāta li-dulūki š-šamsi ˈilā ġasaqi l-layli wa-qurˈāna l-faǧri ˈinna qurˈāna l-faǧri kāna mašhūdan
Maintain the prayer [during the period] from the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and [observe particularly] the dawn recital. Indeed the dawn recital is attended [by angels].
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَتَهَجَّدْ بِهِۦ نَافِلَةً لَّكَ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُودًا
wa-mina l-layli fa-tahaǧǧad bihī nāfilatan laka ʿasā ˈan yabʿaṯaka rabbuka maqāman maḥmūdan
And keep vigil for a part of the night, as a supererogatory [devotion] for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station.
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَدْخِلْنِى مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِى مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَٱجْعَل لِّى مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلْطَـٰنًا نَّصِيرًا
wa-qul rabbi ˈadḫilnī mudḫala ṣidqin wa-ˈaḫriǧnī muḫraǧa ṣidqin wa-ǧʿal lī min ladunka sulṭānan naṣīran
And say, ‘My Lord! ‘Admit me with a worthy entrance, and bring me out with a worthy departure, and render me a favourable authority from Yourself.’
وَقُلْ جَآءَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا
wa-qul ǧāˈa l-ḥaqqu wa-zahaqa l-bāṭilu ˈinna l-bāṭila kāna zahūqan
And say, ‘The truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed falsehood is bound to vanish.’
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا
wa-nunazzilu mina l-qurˈāni mā huwa šifāˈun wa-raḥmatun li-l-muˈminīna wa-lā yazīdu ẓ-ẓālimīna ˈillā ḫasāran
We send down in the Quran that which is a cure and mercy for the faithful; and it increases the wrongdoers only in loss.
وَإِذَآ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَـَٔا بِجَانِبِهِۦ ۖ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ كَانَ يَـُٔوسًا
wa-ˈiḏā ˈanʿamnā ʿalā l-ˈinsāni ˈaʿraḍa wa-naˈā bi-ǧānibihī wa-ˈiḏā massahu š-šarru kāna yaˈūsan
When We bless man, he is disregardful and turns aside; but when an ill befalls him, he is despondent.
قُلْ كُلٌّ يَعْمَلُ عَلَىٰ شَاكِلَتِهِۦ فَرَبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ هُوَ أَهْدَىٰ سَبِيلًا
qul kullun yaʿmalu ʿalā šākilatihī fa-rabbukum ˈaʿlamu bi-man huwa ˈahdā sabīlan
Say, ‘Everyone acts according to his character. Your Lord knows best who is better guided with regard to the way.’
وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلرُّوحِ ۖ قُلِ ٱلرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّى وَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
wa-yasˈalūnaka ˈani r-rūḥi quli r-rūḥu min ˈamri rabbī wa-mā ˈūtītum mina l-ʿilmi ˈillā qalīlan
They question you concerning the Spirit. Say, ‘The Spirit is of the command of my Lord, and you have not been given of the knowledge except a few [of you].’
وَلَئِن شِئْنَا لَنَذْهَبَنَّ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ بِهِۦ عَلَيْنَا وَكِيلًا
wa-la-ˈin šiˈnā la-naḏhabanna bi-llaḏī ˈawḥaynā ˈilayka ṯumma lā taǧidu laka bihī ʿalaynā wakīlan
If We wish, We would take away what We have revealed to you. Then you would not find for yourself any defender against Us,
إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّ فَضْلَهُۥ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ كَبِيرًا
ˈillā raḥmatan min rabbika ˈinna faḍlahū kāna ʿalayka kabīran
except a mercy from your Lord. Indeed His grace has been great upon you.
قُل لَّئِنِ ٱجْتَمَعَتِ ٱلْإِنسُ وَٱلْجِنُّ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَأْتُوا۟ بِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِۦ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرًا
qul la-ˈini ǧtamaʿati l-ˈinsu wa-l-ǧinnu ʿalā ˈan yaˈtū bi-miṯli hāḏā l-qurˈāni lā yaˈtūna bi-miṯlihī wa-law kāna baʿḍuhum li-baʿḍin ẓahīran
Say, ‘Should all humans and jinn rally to bring the like of this Quran, they will not bring its like, even if they assisted one another.’
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍ فَأَبَىٰٓ أَكْثَرُ ٱلنَّاسِ إِلَّا كُفُورًا
wa-la-qad ṣarrafnā li-n-nāsi fī hāḏā l-qurˈāni min kulli maṯalin fa-ˈabā ˈakṯaru n-nāsi ˈillā kufūran
We have certainly interspersed this Quran with every [kind of] parable for the people, but most people are only intent on ingratitude.
وَقَالُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ تَفْجُرَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ يَنۢبُوعًا
wa-qālū lan nuˈmina laka ḥattā tafǧura lanā mina l-ˈarḍi yanbūʿan
They say, ‘We will not believe you until you make a spring gush forth for us from the ground.
أَوْ تَكُونَ لَكَ جَنَّةٌ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَعِنَبٍ فَتُفَجِّرَ ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَ خِلَـٰلَهَا تَفْجِيرًا
ˈaw takūna laka ǧannatun min naḫīlin wa-ʿinabin fa-tufaǧǧira l-ˈanhāra ḫilālahā tafǧīran
Or until you have a garden of date palms and vines and you make streams gush through it.
أَوْ تُسْقِطَ ٱلسَّمَآءَ كَمَا زَعَمْتَ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًا أَوْ تَأْتِىَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ قَبِيلًا
ˈaw tusqiṭa s-samāˈa ka-mā zaʿamta ʿalaynā kisafan ˈaw taˈtiya bi-llāhi wa-l-malāˈikati qabīlan
Or until you cause the sky to fall in fragments upon us, just as you have averred. Or until you bring Allah and the angels [right] in front of us.
أَوْ يَكُونَ لَكَ بَيْتٌ مِّن زُخْرُفٍ أَوْ تَرْقَىٰ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَلَن نُّؤْمِنَ لِرُقِيِّكَ حَتَّىٰ تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا كِتَـٰبًا نَّقْرَؤُهُۥ ۗ قُلْ سُبْحَانَ رَبِّى هَلْ كُنتُ إِلَّا بَشَرًا رَّسُولًا
ˈaw yakūna laka baytun min zuḫrufin ˈaw tarqā fī s-samāˈi wa-lan nuˈmina li-ruqiyyika ḥattā tunazzila ʿalaynā kitāban naqraˈuhū qul subḥāna rabbī hal kuntu ˈillā bašaran rasūlan
Or until you have a house of gold, or you ascend into the sky. And we will not believe your ascension until you bring down for us a book that we may read.’ Say, ‘Immaculate is my Lord! Am I anything but a human apostle?!’
وَمَا مَنَعَ ٱلنَّاسَ أَن يُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوٓا۟ أَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ بَشَرًا رَّسُولًا
wa-mā manaʿa n-nāsa ˈan yuˈminū ˈiḏ ǧāˈahumu l-hudā ˈillā ˈan qālū ˈa-baʿaṯa llāhu bašaran rasūlan
Nothing has kept these people from believing when guidance came to them, but their saying, ‘Has Allah sent a human as an apostle?!’
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٌ يَمْشُونَ مُطْمَئِنِّينَ لَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَلَكًا رَّسُولًا
qul law kāna fī l-ˈarḍi malāˈikatun yamšūna muṭmaˈinnīna la-nazzalnā ʿalayhim mina s-samāˈi malakan rasūlan
Say, ‘Had there been angels in the earth, walking around and residing [in it like humans do], We would have sent down to them an angel from the heaven as apostle.’
قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدًۢا بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا
qul kafā bi-llāhi šahīdan baynī wa-baynakum ˈinnahū kāna bi-ʿibādihī ḫabīran baṣīran
Say, ‘Allah suffices as witness between me and you. Indeed He is well aware His servants and a keen observer.’
وَمَن يَهْدِ ٱللَّهُ فَهُوَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِ ۖ وَمَن يُضْلِلْ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِهِۦ ۖ وَنَحْشُرُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ عُمْيًا وَبُكْمًا وَصُمًّا ۖ مَّأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ كُلَّمَا خَبَتْ زِدْنَـٰهُمْ سَعِيرًا
wa-man yahdī llāhu fa-huwa l-muhtadi wa-man yuḍlil fa-lan taǧida lahum ˈawliyāˈa min dūnihī wa-naḥšuruhum yawma l-qiyāmati ʿalā wuǧūhihim ʿumyan wa-bukman wa-ṣumman maˈwāhum ǧahannamu kullamā ḫabat zidnāhum saʿīran
Whomever Allah guides is rightly guided, and whomever He leads astray—you will never for find them any guardians besides Him. On the Day of Resurrection, We shall muster them [scrambling] on their faces, blind, dumb, and deaf. Their refuge shall be hell. Whenever it subsides, We shall intensify the blaze for them.
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآؤُهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَقَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا وَرُفَـٰتًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا
ḏālika ǧazāˈuhum bi-ˈannahum kafarū bi-ˈāyātinā wa-qālū ˈa-ˈiḏā kunnā ʿiẓāman wa-rufātan ˈa-ˈinnā la-mabʿūṯūna ḫalqan ǧadīdan
That is their requital because they defied Our signs and said, ‘What, when we have become bones and dust, shall we really be raised in a new creation?’
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَهُمْ أَجَلًا لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ فَأَبَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِلَّا كُفُورًا
ˈa-wa-lam yaraw ˈanna llāha llaḏī ḫalaqa s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍa qādirun ʿalā ˈan yaḫluqa miṯlahum wa-ǧaʿala lahum ˈaǧalan lā rayba fīhi fa-ˈabā ẓ-ẓālimūna ˈillā kufūran
Do they not see that Allah, who created the heavens and the earth, is able to create the like of them? He has appointed for them a term, in which there is no doubt; yet the wrongdoers are only intent on ingratitude.
قُل لَّوْ أَنتُمْ تَمْلِكُونَ خَزَآئِنَ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّىٓ إِذًا لَّأَمْسَكْتُمْ خَشْيَةَ ٱلْإِنفَاقِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ قَتُورًا
qul law ˈantum tamlikūna ḫazāˈina raḥmati rabbī ˈiḏan la-ˈamsaktum ḫašyata l-ˈinfāqi wa-kāna l-ˈinsānu qatūran
Say, ‘Even if you possessed the treasuries of my Lord’s mercy, you would withhold them for the fear of being spent, and man is very niggardly.’
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ تِسْعَ ءَايَـٰتٍۭ بَيِّنَـٰتٍ ۖ فَسْـَٔلْ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ إِذْ جَآءَهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُۥ فِرْعَوْنُ إِنِّى لَأَظُنُّكَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰ مَسْحُورًا
wa-la-qad ˈātaynā mūsā tisʿa ˈāyātin bayyinātin fa-sˈal banī ˈisrāˈīla ˈiḏ ǧāˈahum fa-qāla lahū firʿawnu ˈinnī la-ˈaẓunnuka yā-mūsā masḥūran
Certainly We gave Moses nine manifest signs. So ask the Children of Israel. When he came to them, Pharaoh said to him, ‘O Moses, indeed I think you are bewitched.’
قَالَ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَآ أَنزَلَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ بَصَآئِرَ وَإِنِّى لَأَظُنُّكَ يَـٰفِرْعَوْنُ مَثْبُورًا
qāla la-qad ʿalimta mā ˈanzala hāˈulāˈi ˈillā rabbu s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi baṣāˈira wa-ˈinnī la-ˈaẓunnuka yā-firʿawnu maṯbūran
He said, ‘You certainly know that no one has sent these [signs] except the Lord of the heavens and the earth, as eye-openers, and I, O Pharaoh, indeed think you are doomed.’
فَأَرَادَ أَن يَسْتَفِزَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ جَمِيعًا
fa-ˈarāda ˈan yastafizzahum mina l-ˈarḍi fa-ˈaġraqnāhu wa-man maʿahū ǧamīʿan
He desired to exterminate them from the land, so We drowned him and all those who were with him.
وَقُلْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ لِبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱسْكُنُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ جِئْنَا بِكُمْ لَفِيفًا
wa-qulnā min baʿdihī li-banī ˈisrāˈīla skunū l-ˈarḍa fa-ˈiḏā ǧāˈa waʿdu l-ˈāḫirati ǧiˈnā bikum lafīfan
After him We said to the Children of Israel, ‘Take up residence in the land, and when the occasion of the other [promise] comes, We shall gather you in mixed company.’
وَبِٱلْحَقِّ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ وَبِٱلْحَقِّ نَزَلَ ۗ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا
wa-bi-l-ḥaqqi ˈanzalnāhu wa-bi-l-ḥaqqi nazala wa-mā ˈarsalnāka ˈillā mubašširan wa-naḏīran
With the truth did We send it down, and with the truth did it descend, and We did not send you except as a bearer of good news and as a warner.
وَقُرْءَانًا فَرَقْنَـٰهُ لِتَقْرَأَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ مُكْثٍ وَنَزَّلْنَـٰهُ تَنزِيلًا
wa-qurˈānan faraqnāhu li-taqraˈahū ʿalā n-nāsi ʿalā mukṯin wa-nazzalnāhu tanzīlan
We have sent the Quran in [discrete] parts so that you may recite it for the people a little at a time, and We have sent it down piecemeal.
قُلْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ أَوْ لَا تُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ مِن قَبْلِهِۦٓ إِذَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ يَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ سُجَّدًا
qul ˈāminū bihī ˈaw lā tuˈminū ˈinna llaḏīna ˈūtū l-ʿilma min qablihī ˈiḏā yutlā ʿalayhim yaḫirrūna li-l-ˈaḏqāni suǧǧadan
Say, ‘Whether you believe in it, or do not believe in it, indeed when it is recited to those who were given knowledge before it, they fall down in prostration on their faces,
وَيَقُولُونَ سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّنَآ إِن كَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّنَا لَمَفْعُولًا
wa-yaqūlūna subḥāna rabbinā ˈin kāna waʿdu rabbinā la-mafʿūlan
and say, ‘‘Immaculate is our Lord! Indeed Our Lord’s promise is bound to be fulfilled.’’
وَيَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ يَبْكُونَ وَيَزِيدُهُمْ خُشُوعًا ۩
wa-yaḫirrūna li-l-ˈaḏqāni yabkūna wa-yazīduhum ḫušūʿan
Weeping, they fall down on their faces, and it increases them in humility.’
قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ أَوِ ٱدْعُوا۟ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ ۖ أَيًّا مَّا تَدْعُوا۟ فَلَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ وَلَا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَلَا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا وَٱبْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ سَبِيلًا
quli dʿū llāha ˈawi dʿū r-raḥmāna ˈayyan mā tadʿū fa-lahu l-ˈasmāˈu l-ḥusnā wa-lā taǧhar bi-ṣalātika wa-lā tuḫāfit bihā wa-btaġi bayna ḏālika sabīlan
Say, ‘Invoke ‘‘Allah’’ or invoke ‘‘the All-beneficent.’’ Whichever [of His Names] you may invoke, to Him belong the Best Names.’ Be neither loud in your prayer, nor murmur it, but follow a middle course between these,
وَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِيكٌ فِى ٱلْمُلْكِ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ وَلِىٌّ مِّنَ ٱلذُّلِّ ۖ وَكَبِّرْهُ تَكْبِيرًۢا
wa-quli l-ḥamdu li-llāhi llaḏī lam yattaḫiḏ waladan wa-lam yakun lahū šarīkun fī l-mulki wa-lam yakun lahū waliyyun mina ḏ-ḏulli wa-kabbirhu takbīran
and say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, who has neither taken any son, nor has He any partner in sovereignty, nor has He any wali out of weakness,’ and magnify Him with a magnification [worthy of Him].
