Surah Al-Hashr

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 59:1

   سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ﴿١﴾

   sabbaḥa li-llāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu

   Whatever there is in the heavens and whatever there is in the earth glorifies Allah, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.

2. 59:2

   هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مِن دِيَـٰرِهِمْ لِأَوَّلِ ٱلْحَشْرِ ۚ مَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن يَخْرُجُوا۟ ۖ وَظَنُّوٓا۟ أَنَّهُم مَّانِعَتُهُمْ حُصُونُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ فَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَمْ يَحْتَسِبُوا۟ ۖ وَقَذَفَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلرُّعْبَ ۚ يُخْرِبُونَ بُيُوتَهُم بِأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَيْدِى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَٱعْتَبِرُوا۟ يَـٰٓأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ﴿٢﴾

   huwa llaḏī ˈaḫraǧa llaḏīna kafarū min ˈahli l-kitābi min diyārihim li-ˈawwali l-ḥašri mā ẓanantum ˈan yaḫruǧū wa-ẓannū ˈannahum māniʿatuhum ḥuṣūnuhum mina llāhi fa-ˈatāhumu llāhu min ḥayṯu lam yaḥtasibū wa-qaḏafa fī qulūbihimu r-ruʿba yuḫribūna buyūtahum bi-ˈaydīhim wa-ˈaydī l-muˈminīna fa-ʿtabirū yā-ˈulī l-ˈabṣāri

   It is He who expelled the faithless belonging to the People of the Book from their homes at the outset of [their] en masse banishment. You did not think that they would go out, and they thought their fortresses would protect them from Allah. But Allah came at them from whence they did not suppose and He cast terror into their hearts. They demolish their houses with their own hands and the hands of the faithful. So take lesson, O you who have insight!

3. 59:3

   وَلَوْلَآ أَن كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْجَلَآءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ عَذَابُ ٱلنَّارِ﴿٣﴾

   wa-law-lā ˈan kataba llāhu ʿalayhimu l-ǧalāˈa la-ʿaḏḏabahum fī d-dunyā wa-lahum fī l-ˈāḫirati ʿaḏābu n-nāri

   If Allah had not ordained banishment for them, He would have surely punished them in this world, and in the Hereafter, there is the punishment of the Fire for them.

4. 59:4

   ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَآقُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۖ وَمَن يُشَآقِّ ٱللَّهَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ﴿٤﴾

   ḏālika bi-ˈannahum šāqqū llāha wa-rasūlahū wa-man yušāqqi llāha fa-ˈinna llāha šadīdu l-ʿiqābi

   That is because they defied Allah and His Apostle; and whoever defies Allah, Allah is indeed severe in retribution.

5. 59:5

   مَا قَطَعْتُم مِّن لِّينَةٍ أَوْ تَرَكْتُمُوهَا قَآئِمَةً عَلَىٰٓ أُصُولِهَا فَبِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيُخْزِىَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ﴿٥﴾

   mā qaṭaʿtum min līnatin ˈaw taraktumūhā qāˈimatan ʿalā ˈuṣūlihā fa-bi-ˈiḏni llāhi wa-li-yuḫziya l-fāsiqīna

   Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah’s will and in order that He may disgrace the transgressors.

6. 59:6

   وَمَآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ مِنْهُمْ فَمَآ أَوْجَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَيْلٍ وَلَا رِكَابٍ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُسَلِّطُ رُسُلَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ﴿٦﴾

   wa-mā ˈafāˈa llāhu ʿalā rasūlihī minhum fa-mā ˈawǧaftum ʿalayhi min ḫaylin wa-lā rikābin wa-lākinna llāha yusalliṭu rusulahū ʿalā man yašāˈu wa-llāhu ʿalā kulli šayˈin qadīrun

   The spoils that Allah gave to His Apostle from them, you did not spur any horse for its sake, nor any riding camel, but Allah makes His apostles prevail over whomever He wishes, and Allah has power over all things.

7. 59:7

   مَّآ أَفَآءَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْقُرَىٰ فَلِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ كَىْ لَا يَكُونَ دُولَةًۢ بَيْنَ ٱلْأَغْنِيَآءِ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَمَآ ءَاتَىٰكُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَىٰكُمْ عَنْهُ فَٱنتَهُوا۟ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ﴿٧﴾

   mā ˈafāˈa llāhu ʿalā rasūlihī min ˈahli l-qurā fa-li-llāhi wa-li-r-rasūli wa-li-ḏī l-qurbā wa-l-yatāmā wa-l-masākīni wa-bni s-sabīli kay lā yakūna dūlatan bayna l-ˈaġniyāˈi minkum wa-mā ˈātākumu r-rasūlu fa-ḫuḏūhu wa-mā nahākum ʿanhu fa-ntahū wa-ttaqū llāha ˈinna llāha šadīdu l-ʿiqābi

   The spoils that Allah gave to His Apostle from the people of the townships, are for Allah and the Apostle, the relatives and the orphans, the needy and the traveller, so that they do not circulate among the rich among you. Take whatever the Apostle gives you, and refrain from whatever he forbids you, and be wary of Allah. Indeed Allah is severe in retribution.

8. 59:8

   لِلْفُقَرَآءِ ٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا۟ مِن دِيَـٰرِهِمْ وَأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِضْوَٰنًا وَيَنصُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلصَّـٰدِقُونَ﴿٨﴾

   li-l-fuqarāˈi l-muhāǧirīna llaḏīna ˈuḫriǧū min diyārihim wa-ˈamwālihim yabtaġūna faḍlan mina llāhi wa-riḍwānan wa-yanṣurūna llāha wa-rasūlahū ˈulāˈika humu ṣ-ṣādiqūna

   [They are also] for the poor Emigrants who have been expelled from their homes and [wrested of] their possessions, who seek grace from Allah and [His] pleasure and help Allah and His Apostle. It is they who are the truthful.

9. 59:9

   وَٱلَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُو ٱلدَّارَ وَٱلْإِيمَـٰنَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ يُحِبُّونَ مَنْ هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِى صُدُورِهِمْ حَاجَةً مِّمَّآ أُوتُوا۟ وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ ۚ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ﴿٩﴾

   wa-llaḏīna tabawwaˈū d-dāra wa-l-ˈīmāna min qablihim yuḥibbūna man hāǧara ˈilayhim wa-lā yaǧidūna fī ṣudūrihim ḥāǧatan mimmā ˈūtū wa-yuˈṯirūna ʿalā ˈanfusihim wa-law kāna bihim ḫaṣāṣatun wa-man yūqa šuḥḥa nafsihī fa-ˈulāˈika humu l-mufliḥūna

   [They are as well] for those who were settled in the land and [abided] in faith before them, who love those who migrate toward them, and do not find in their breasts any privation for that which is given to them, but prefer [the Immigrants] to themselves, though poverty be their own lot. And those who are saved from their own greed—it is they who are the felicitous.

10. 59:10

    وَٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَٰنِنَا ٱلَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِى قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿١٠﴾

    wa-llaḏīna ǧāˈū min baʿdihim yaqūlūna rabbanā ġfir lanā wa-li-ˈiḫwāninā llaḏīna sabaqūnā bi-l-ˈīmāni wa-lā taǧʿal fī qulūbinā ġillan li-llaḏīna ˈāmanū rabbanā ˈinnaka raˈūfun raḥīmun

    And [also for] those who came in after them, who say, ‘Our Lord, forgive us and our brethren who were our forerunners in the faith, and do not put any rancour in our hearts toward the faithful. Our Lord, You are indeed most kind and merciful.’

11. 59:11

    أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَئِنْ أُخْرِجْتُمْ لَنَخْرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمْ وَلَا نُطِيعُ فِيكُمْ أَحَدًا أَبَدًا وَإِن قُوتِلْتُمْ لَنَنصُرَنَّكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ﴿١١﴾

    ˈa-lam tara ˈilā llaḏīna nāfaqū yaqūlūna li-ˈiḫwānihimu llaḏīna kafarū min ˈahli l-kitābi la-ˈin ˈuḫriǧtum la-naḫruǧanna maʿakum wa-lā nuṭīʿu fīkum ˈaḥadan ˈabadan wa-ˈin qūtiltum la-nanṣurannakum wa-llāhu yašhadu ˈinnahum la-kāḏibūna

    Have you not regarded the hypocrites who say to their brethren, the faithless from among the People of the Book, ‘If you are expelled, we will surely go out with you, and we will never obey anyone against you, and if you are fought against we will surely help you,’ and Allah bears witness that they are indeed liars.

12. 59:12

    لَئِنْ أُخْرِجُوا۟ لَا يَخْرُجُونَ مَعَهُمْ وَلَئِن قُوتِلُوا۟ لَا يَنصُرُونَهُمْ وَلَئِن نَّصَرُوهُمْ لَيُوَلُّنَّ ٱلْأَدْبَـٰرَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنصَرُونَ﴿١٢﴾

    la-ˈin ˈuḫriǧū lā yaḫruǧūna maʿahum wa-la-ˈin qūtilū lā yanṣurūnahum wa-la-ˈin naṣarūhum la-yuwallunna l-ˈadbāra ṯumma lā yunṣarūna

    Surely, if they were expelled they will not go out with them, and if they were fought against they will not help them, and [even if] they were to help them they will turn their backs [to flee] and eventually they will not be helped.

13. 59:13

    لَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ رَهْبَةً فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ﴿١٣﴾

    la-ˈantum ˈašaddu rahbatan fī ṣudūrihim mina llāhi ḏālika bi-ˈannahum qawmun lā yafqahūna

    Indeed they have a greater awe of you in their hearts than of Allah. That is because they are a lot who do not understand.

14. 59:14

    لَا يُقَـٰتِلُونَكُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَّا فِى قُرًى مُّحَصَّنَةٍ أَوْ مِن وَرَآءِ جُدُرٍۭ ۚ بَأْسُهُم بَيْنَهُمْ شَدِيدٌ ۚ تَحْسَبُهُمْ جَمِيعًا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ شَتَّىٰ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَعْقِلُونَ﴿١٤﴾

    lā yuqātilūnakum ǧamīʿan ˈillā fī quran muḥaṣṣanatin ˈaw min warāˈi ǧudurin baˈsuhum baynahum šadīdun taḥsabuhum ǧamīʿan wa-qulūbuhum šattā ḏālika bi-ˈannahum qawmun lā yaʿqilūna

    They will not fight against you together except in fortified townships or from behind walls. Their fierceness is great only within themselves. You suppose them to be united, but their hearts are divided. That is because they are a lot who do not exercise their reason,

15. 59:15

    كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ قَرِيبًا ۖ ذَاقُوا۟ وَبَالَ أَمْرِهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ﴿١٥﴾

    ka-maṯali llaḏīna min qablihim qarīban ḏāqū wabāla ˈamrihim wa-lahum ʿaḏābun ˈalīmun

    just like those who tasted the evil consequence of their conduct recently before them, and there is a painful punishment for them.

16. 59:16

    كَمَثَلِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ إِذْ قَالَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ ٱكْفُرْ فَلَمَّا كَفَرَ قَالَ إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌ مِّنكَ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَ رَبَّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿١٦﴾

    ka-maṯali š-šayṭāni ˈiḏ qāla li-l-ˈinsāni kfur fa-lammā kafara qāla ˈinnī barīˈun minka ˈinnī ˈaḫāfu llāha rabba l-ʿālamīna

    [The hypocrites are] like Satan when he tells man to disbelieve, but when he disbelieves, he says, ‘I am absolved of you. Indeed I fear Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.’

17. 59:17

    فَكَانَ عَـٰقِبَتَهُمَآ أَنَّهُمَا فِى ٱلنَّارِ خَـٰلِدَيْنِ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ﴿١٧﴾

    fa-kāna ʿāqibatahumā ˈannahumā fī n-nāri ḫālidayni fīhā wa-ḏālika ǧazāˈu ẓ-ẓālimīna

    So the fate of both is that they will be in the Fire, to remain in it [forever]. Such is the requital of the wrongdoers.

18. 59:18

    يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلْتَنظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ ۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ﴿١٨﴾

    yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū ttaqū llāha wa-l-tanẓur nafsun mā qaddamat li-ġadin wa-ttaqū llāha ˈinna llāha ḫabīrun bi-mā taʿmalūna

    O you who have faith! Be wary of Allah, and let every soul consider what it sends ahead for Tomorrow, and be wary of Allah. Allah is indeed well aware of what you do

19. 59:19

    وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ نَسُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَأَنسَىٰهُمْ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ﴿١٩﴾

    wa-lā takūnū ka-llaḏīna nasū llāha fa-ˈansāhum ˈanfusahum ˈulāˈika humu l-fāsiqūna

    Do not be like those who forget Allah, so He makes them forget their own souls. It is they who are the transgressors.

20. 59:20

    لَا يَسْتَوِىٓ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۚ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ﴿٢٠﴾

    lā yastawī ˈaṣḥābu n-nāri wa-ˈaṣḥābu l-ǧannati ˈaṣḥābu l-ǧannati humu l-fāˈizūna

    Not equal are the inmates of the Fire and the inhabitants of paradise. It is the inhabitants of paradise who are the successful ones.

21. 59:21

    لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُۥ خَـٰشِعًا مُّتَصَدِّعًا مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَتِلْكَ ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ﴿٢١﴾

    law ˈanzalnā hāḏā l-qurˈāna ʿalā l-ǧabalin la-raˈaytahū ḫāšiʿan mutaṣaddiʿan min ḫašyati llāhi wa-tilka l-ˈamṯālu naḍribuhā li-n-nāsi laʿallahum yatafakkarūna

    Had We sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled [and] go to pieces with the fear of Allah. We draw such comparisons for mankind, so that they may reflect.

22. 59:22

    هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ۖ هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ﴿٢٢﴾

    huwa llāhu llaḏī lā ˈilāha ˈillā huwa ʿālimu l-ġaybi wa-š-šahādati huwa r-raḥmānu r-raḥīmu

    He is Allah—there is no god except Him—Knower of the sensible and the Unseen, He is the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

23. 59:23

    هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْقُدُّوسُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُ ٱلْمُهَيْمِنُ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْجَبَّارُ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ﴿٢٣﴾

    huwa llāhu llaḏī lā ˈilāha ˈillā huwa l-maliku l-quddūsu s-salāmu l-muˈminu l-muhayminu l-ʿazīzu l-ǧabbāru l-mutakabbiru subḥāna llāhi ʿammā yušrikūna

    He is Allah—there is no god except Him—the Sovereign, the All-holy, the All-benign, the Securer, the All-conserver, the All-mighty, the All-compeller, and the All-magnanimous. Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]!

24. 59:24

    هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُ ٱلْبَارِئُ ٱلْمُصَوِّرُ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ﴿٢٤﴾

    huwa llāhu l-ḫāliqu l-bāriˈu l-muṣawwiru lahu l-ˈasmāˈu l-ḥusnā yusabbiḥu lahū mā fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu

    He is Allah, the Creator, the Maker, and the Former. To Him belong the Best Names. Whatever there is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.
