كانت تكابر عالأسى ومن تبكي سكتة (2x)She would conceal her sorrow, and weep only in silence.
وأسألها شنو اليوجعك وتقول لي أنت (2x)I would ask her, 'What hurts you?' and she would reply, 'You.'
علي تخفي صوابها والمخفي شفته (2x)She hid her wounds from me, yet I saw what was hidden.
يا أسماءO Asma!
بالمغتسل رض الصدر بيميني أجس (2x)At the washing place, with my right hand I feel the crushed ribs of her chest.
حقي يا أسماء لو أذوب شحمة عينيIt is my right, O Asma, if the very pupil of my eye melts away.
وأصرخ يا زهراء رحتي بسرعة وعفتينيAnd I cry out, 'O Zahra, you left so quickly and abandoned me!'
وين مولاتي؟Where, O my Lady?

حكم القدر شاء (2x)The decree of destiny willed it,
تخلص بالهم سنينيThat my years should end in grief.
أبكيها وهي تبكيني (2x)I weep for her, and she weeps for me.
مضت بطول حزنها وعمرها قصير (2x)She passed away with enduring sorrow and a brief life.

يا خزانة الأسرار وتضم عني الأسرارO treasure-trove of secrets, yet she conceals her secrets from me!
