Take me to a shrine,

Take me to the shrine of Hussein.

Peace be upon the thirsty body suffering from hunger,

Slain by thirst,

Nay, washed in blood,

Nay, whose jugular vein was severed.

Take me to the shrine of the slaughtered one,

Take me to soothe a wounded heart.

Let me whisper affectionately to the fallen slain,

Let me kiss that holy shrine,

To weep over him,

And offer him tears of mournful moaning.

Whenever I remember Hussein the martyr,

My eyes overflow with tears,

And my heart wails in sorrow,

And these words weep along with me.

The heart aches when the herald appears,

Recalling Khadijah and the Pure One (Fatimah).

For what reason did you leave behind the pilgrimage,

And journey to Karbala from Arafat?

And set out departing toward Nineveh,

While bleeding blood was your sacred chant (Talbiyah),

And your shroud was your pilgrim's garb, my Master,

And the slaying of your companions was your sacrifice.

For what reasons did mourning weep for you,

And grief began to strike the towns,

For what reason did the sands weep for you?

And these hills, and these open deserts...

O Karbala, is this slain one the true beloved?

He is the grandson of the Prophet, O Karbala, do you know him?

Do you know that Husayn is slain without any helper or supporter?

(2x)Husayn...

O Karbala, do you remember the infant?

And do you remember the grief-stricken heart?

O Karbala, do you remember the orphan?

And do you remember the ailing, sorrowful one?

And the slaying of the Hashimites,

And the captivity of the Fatimas of the family of the Trustworthy Prophet?

It is painful to me, and deep in my memory,

The echo of mourning and the lament of yearning.

A tear wells up in my eye

To eulogize Husayn with verse of pain,

And an outcry rises to the sky for him,

So its echo may endure through all the years.

So that Husayn remains the beacon of guidance,

In spite of the tyrannical foes.

So that Husayn remains the beloved of hearts,

He is the truthful and trustworthy among them.

So that the throats in their voice

And in their chant hold the roar of the callers,

Shaking consciences with its lofty resonance,

And in its melody carries the revolution of the revolutionaries.

O son of martyrdom, you are Husayn!

(4x)Husayn...

O cry echoing above the clouds, between the hills,

Upon the pages of ages calling out: Husayn!

Upon the pages of our hearts we inscribed:

(4x)Peace be upon the purest of the pure.
