جمر يلهب بصدركEmbers blazed in your chest,

من صبرك تنحني بعينك الأشجارyet before your patience, the trees bowed in reverence before your eyes.

مواجع مزدحمة بلا رحمةAgonies crowded without mercy,

والغدر يا حيف أمطارand treachery, alas, poured down like rain.

دنياك صعبةYour world was harsh,

وغربتك غربةand your estrangement was true loneliness,

والزمن ما يرحم أخويand time shows no mercy, O my brother!

فدى لروحك روحيMay my soul be sacrificed for yours,

يا الأخو لا شفتك يومO brother, would that I never saw the day

تخليني بروحي مبتلي وترحل مسمومwhere you leave me alone in grief, departing poisoned!

يا أول وتالي دنيا حسين المظلوم (2x)O first and last of oppressed Hussain's world!

حملت الهم بالهم تتألمYou carried grief upon grief, suffering in pain,

والدهر واراك يا مشهودwhile time bore witness to what enveloped you.

يلم صبرك جرحك وبصلحك للصبر جددت حدودYour patience soothed your wound, and by your peace treaty you set new limits for endurance.

مسحت دموع الناس بالإحساسYou wiped away people's tears with deep compassion,

وانت بدموعك مفروضwhile you were left alone with your own tears.

وفيت انت بعهدكYou fulfilled your covenant,

ولضدك ما وفوا وداسوا عهودyet your enemies broke faith and trampled upon covenants.

خانوا عهدك وجحدوا جودكThey betrayed your pact and denied your generosity.

شكوتك للباري يا اخويYour complaint is to the Creator, O my brother,

من آهات اعوامكfrom the sighs of your enduring years.

للندم عالم خليت ملايين ايتامكYou left behind a world of regret, leaving millions orphaned without you.

يا حسن عنها تخليتO Hasan, you have parted from them!

ماشي يا الوالي لكن بجرحك ظليت (2x)You are departing, O guardian, yet your wound remains unhealed.

يا اخوي على مصابك ما تجف دمعات العينO my brother, for your tragedy the tears of the eye never dry.

آه يا دلالي يا الحسن ضيعت حسين (2x)Oh, my heart! O al-Hasan, you have left Husayn desolate!

على صواب بموتك تابوتك مثل بحال صوابيIn your death, the piercing of your coffin mirrored the sorrow of my own strike,

من اسهام من سبقت بس بقيت منها لاخوانك سهمينFrom the arrows that rained, only two remained for your brothers:

سهم كنه تحول صاب أول أبو الفضل واختار العينOne arrow seemingly turned and struck the first, Abu al-Fadl, targeting his eye.

سهم يم نحرك مار وتعذب واتجه يم قلب حسينAnd an arrow passed by your throat, agonizing, and headed toward Hussain's heart.

كل سهم ينشل تنذبح زينبWith every arrow drawn, Zaynab is slaughtered,

وكل ألم صيحتها خوياand at every agony her cry is: 'O my brother!'

يا أبو محمد بعدك خيم الحزن ولا فاتO Abu Muhammad, after you sorrow has cast its shadow and never fades.

لو انصرنا بلحدك يا الأخو لا نبقى بعادIf only we could be with you in your grave, brother, and not remain far apart.

خذنا يا الغالي والعمر لا ما ينراد (2x)Take us along, beloved one, for life is no longer wanted.
