Surah 36
سُورَةُ يسٓ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
يسٓ
y-s (yā sīn)
Ya Seen!
وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ
wa-l-qurˈāni l-ḥakīmi
By the Wise Quran,
إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
ˈinnaka la-mina l-mursalīna
you are indeed one of the apostles,
عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīmin
on a straight path.
تَنزِيلَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
tanzīla l-ʿazīzi r-raḥīmi
[It is a scripture] sent down gradually from the All-mighty, the All-merciful
لِتُنذِرَ قَوْمًا مَّآ أُنذِرَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَـٰفِلُونَ
li-tunḏira qawman mā ˈunḏira ˈābāˈuhum fa-hum ġāfilūna
that you may warn a people whose fathers were not warned, so they are oblivious.
لَقَدْ حَقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَىٰٓ أَكْثَرِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
la-qad ḥaqqa l-qawlu ʿalā ˈakṯarihim fa-hum lā yuˈminūna
The word has certainly become due against most of them, so they will not have faith.
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا فِىٓ أَعْنَـٰقِهِمْ أَغْلَـٰلًا فَهِىَ إِلَى ٱلْأَذْقَانِ فَهُم مُّقْمَحُونَ
ˈinnā ǧaʿalnā fī ˈaʿnāqihim ˈaġlālan fa-hiya ˈilā l-ˈaḏqāni fa-hum muqmaḥūna
Indeed We have put iron collars around their necks, which are up to the chins, so their heads are upturned.
وَجَعَلْنَا مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدًّا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدًّا فَأَغْشَيْنَـٰهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ
wa-ǧaʿalnā min bayni ˈaydīhim saddan wa-min ḫalfihim saddan fa-ˈaġšaynāhum fa-hum lā yubṣirūna
And We have put a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, then We have blind-folded them, so they do not see.
وَسَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
wa-sawāˈun ʿalayhim ˈa-ˈanḏartahum ˈam lam tunḏirhum lā yuˈminūna
It is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not have faith.
إِنَّمَا تُنذِرُ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلذِّكْرَ وَخَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِمَغْفِرَةٍ وَأَجْرٍ كَرِيمٍ
ˈinnamā tunḏiru mani ttabaʿa ḏ-ḏikra wa-ḫašiya r-raḥmāna bi-l-ġaybi fa-bašširhu bi-maġfiratin wa-ˈaǧrin karīmin
You can only warn someone who follows the Reminder and fears the All-beneficent in secret; so give him the good news of forgiveness and a noble reward.
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَدَّمُوا۟ وَءَاثَـٰرَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ فِىٓ إِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ
ˈinnā naḥnu nuḥyi l-mawtā wa-naktubu mā qaddamū wa-ˈāṯārahum wa-kulla šayˈin ˈaḥṣaynāhu fī ˈimāmin mubīnin
Indeed it is We who revive the dead and write what they have sent ahead and their effects [which they left behind], and We have figured everything in a manifest Imam.
وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ إِذْ جَآءَهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
wa-ḍrib lahum maṯalan ˈaṣḥāba l-qaryati ˈiḏ ǧāˈahā l-mursalūna
Cite for them the example of the inhabitants of the town when the apostles came to it.
إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُم مُّرْسَلُونَ
ˈiḏ ˈarsalnā ˈilayhimu ṯnayni fa-kaḏḏabūhumā fa-ʿazzaznā bi-ṯāliṯin fa-qālū ˈinnā ˈilaykum mursalūna
When We sent to them two [apostles], they impugned both of them. Then We reinforced them with a third, and they said, ‘We have indeed been sent to you.’
قَالُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا تَكْذِبُونَ
qālū mā ˈantum ˈillā bašarun miṯlunā wa-mā ˈanzala r-raḥmānu min šayˈin ˈin ˈantum ˈillā takḏibūna
They said, ‘You are no other than human beings like us, and the All-beneficent has not sent down anything, and you are only lying.’
قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا يَعْلَمُ إِنَّآ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمُرْسَلُونَ
qālū rabbunā yaʿlamu ˈinnā ˈilaykum la-mursalūna
They said, ‘Our Lord knows that we have indeed been sent to you,
وَمَا عَلَيْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ
wa-mā ʿalaynā ˈillā l-balāġu l-mubīnu
and our duty is only to communicate in clear terms.’
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا تَطَيَّرْنَا بِكُمْ ۖ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهُوا۟ لَنَرْجُمَنَّكُمْ وَلَيَمَسَّنَّكُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
qālū ˈinnā taṭayyarnā bikum la-ˈin lam tantahū la-narǧumannakum wa-la-yamassannakum minnā ʿaḏābun ˈalīmun
They said, ‘Indeed we take you for a bad omen. If you do not desist we will stone you, and surely a painful punishment will visit you from us.’
قَالُوا۟ طَـٰٓئِرُكُم مَّعَكُمْ ۚ أَئِن ذُكِّرْتُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ
qālū ṭāˈirukum maʿakum ˈa-ˈin ḏukkirtum bal ˈantum qawmun musrifūna
They said, ‘Your bad omens attend you. What! If you are admonished.... Indeed, you are an unrestrained lot.’
وَجَآءَ مِنْ أَقْصَا ٱلْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلٌ يَسْعَىٰ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
wa-ǧāˈa min ˈaqṣā l-madīnati raǧulun yasʿā qāla yā-qawmi ttabiʿū l-mursalīna
There came a man hurrying from the city outskirts. He said, ‘O my people! Follow the apostles!
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَن لَّا يَسْـَٔلُكُمْ أَجْرًا وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ
ittabiʿū man lā yasˈalukum ˈaǧran wa-hum muhtadūna
Follow them who do not ask you any reward and they are rightly guided.
وَمَا لِىَ لَآ أَعْبُدُ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
wa-mā liya lā ˈaʿbudu llaḏī faṭaranī wa-ˈilayhi turǧaʿūna
Why should I not worship Him who has originated me, and to whom you shall be brought back?
ءَأَتَّخِذُ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً إِن يُرِدْنِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ بِضُرٍّ لَّا تُغْنِ عَنِّى شَفَـٰعَتُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يُنقِذُونِ
ˈa-ˈattaḫiḏu min dūnihī ˈālihatan ˈin yuridni r-raḥmānu bi-ḍurrin lā tuġni ʿannī šafāʿatuhum šayˈan wa-lā yunqiḏūni
Shall I take gods besides Him? If the All-beneficent desired to cause me any distress, their intercession will not avail me in any way, nor will they rescue me.
إِنِّىٓ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
ˈinnī ˈiḏan la-fī ḍalālin mubīnin
Indeed, then I would be in manifest error.
إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ
ˈinnī ˈāmantu bi-rabbikum fa-smaʿūni
Indeed I have faith in your Lord, so listen to me.’
قِيلَ ٱدْخُلِ ٱلْجَنَّةَ ۖ قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ قَوْمِى يَعْلَمُونَ
qīla dḫuli l-ǧannata qāla yā-layta qawmī yaʿlamūna
He was told, ‘Enter paradise!’ He said, ‘Alas! Had my people only known
بِمَا غَفَرَ لِى رَبِّى وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ
bi-mā ġafara lī rabbī wa-ǧaʿalanī mina l-mukramīna
for what my Lord forgave me and made me one of the honoured ones!’
وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِن جُندٍ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنزِلِينَ
wa-mā ˈanzalnā ʿalā qawmihī min baʿdihī min ǧundin mina s-samāˈi wa-mā kunnā munzilīna
After him We did not send down on his people a host from the sky, nor We would have sent down.
إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ خَـٰمِدُونَ
ˈin kānat ˈillā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-ˈiḏā hum ḫāmidūna
It was but a single Cry, and, behold, they were stilled [like burnt ashes]!
يَـٰحَسْرَةً عَلَى ٱلْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
yā-ḥasratan ʿalā l-ʿibādi mā yaˈtīhim min rasūlin ˈillā kānū bihī yastahziˈūna
How regrettable of the servants! There did not come to them any apostle but that they used to deride him.
أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ
ˈa-lam yaraw kam ˈahlaknā qablahum mina l-qurūni ˈannahum ˈilayhim lā yarǧiʿūna
Have they not regarded how many generations We have destroyed before them who will not come back to them?
وَإِن كُلٌّ لَّمَّا جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ
wa-ˈin kullun lammā ǧamīʿun ladaynā muḥḍarūna
And all of them will indeed be presented before Us.
وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ ٱلْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَـٰهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ
wa-ˈāyatun lahumu l-ˈarḍu l-maytatu ˈaḥyaynāhā wa-ˈaḫraǧnā minhā ḥabban fa-minhu yaˈkulūna
A sign for them is the dead earth, which We revive and bring forth grain out of it, so they eat of it.
وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّـٰتٍ مِّن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَـٰبٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْعُيُونِ
wa-ǧaʿalnā fīhā ǧannātin min naḫīlin wa-ˈaʿnābin wa-faǧǧarnā fīhā mina l-ʿuyūni
We make in it orchards of date palms and vines, and We cause springs to gush forth in it,
لِيَأْكُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ
li-yaˈkulū min ṯamarihī wa-mā ʿamilathu ˈaydīhim ˈa-fa-lā yaškurūna
so that they may eat of its fruit and what their hands have cultivated. Will they not then give thanks?
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنۢبِتُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
subḥāna llaḏī ḫalaqa l-ˈazwāǧa kullahā mimmā tunbitu l-ˈarḍu wa-min ˈanfusihim wa-mimmā lā yaʿlamūna
Immaculate is He who has created all the kinds of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and of what they do not know.
وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ ٱلَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُم مُّظْلِمُونَ
wa-ˈāyatun lahumu l-laylu naslaḫu minhu n-nahāra fa-ˈiḏā hum muẓlimūna
A sign for them is the night, which We strip of daylight, and, behold, they find themselves in the dark!
وَٱلشَّمْسُ تَجْرِى لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَّهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ
wa-š-šamsu taǧrī li-mustaqarrin lahā ḏālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīmi
The sun runs on to its place of rest: That is the ordaining of the All-mighty, the All-knowing.
وَٱلْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَـٰهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ ٱلْقَدِيمِ
wa-l-qamara qaddarnāhu manāzila ḥattā ʿāda ka-l-ʿurǧūni l-qadīmi
As for the moon, We have ordained its phases, until it becomes like an old palm leaf.
لَا ٱلشَّمْسُ يَنۢبَغِى لَهَآ أَن تُدْرِكَ ٱلْقَمَرَ وَلَا ٱلَّيْلُ سَابِقُ ٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّ فِى فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ
lā š-šamsu yanbaġī lahā ˈan tudrika l-qamara wa-lā l-laylu sābiqu n-nahāri wa-kullun fī falakin yasbaḥūna
Neither it behooves the sun to overtake the moon, nor may the night outrun the day, and each swims in an orbit.
وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
wa-ˈāyatun lahum ˈannā ḥamalnā ḏurriyyatahum fī l-fulki l-mašḥūni
A sign for them is that We carried their progeny in the laden ship,
وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ
wa-ḫalaqnā lahum min miṯlihī mā yarkabūna
and We have created for them what is similar to it, which they ride.
وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ
wa-ˈin našaˈ nuġriqhum fa-lā ṣarīḫa lahum wa-lā hum yunqaḏūna
And if We like We drown them, whereat they have no one to call for help, nor are they rescued
إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ
ˈillā raḥmatan minnā wa-matāʿan ˈilā ḥīnin
except by a mercy from Us and for an enjoyment until some time.
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
wa-ˈiḏā qīla lahumu ttaqū mā bayna ˈaydīkum wa-mā ḫalfakum laʿallakum turḥamūna
And when they are told, ‘Beware of that which is before you and that which is behind you, so that you may receive [His] mercy…’
وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ
wa-mā taˈtīhim min ˈāyatin min ˈāyāti rabbihim ˈillā kānū ʿanhā muʿriḍīna
There does not come to them any sign from among the signs of their Lord but that they have been disregarding it.
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَنُطْعِمُ مَن لَّوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
wa-ˈiḏā qīla lahum ˈanfiqū mimmā razaqakumu llāhu qāla llaḏīna kafarū li-llaḏīna ˈāmanū ˈa-nuṭʿimu man law yašāˈu llāhu ˈaṭʿamahū ˈin ˈantum ˈillā fī ḍalālin mubīnin
When they are told, ‘Spend out of what Allah has provided you,’ the faithless say to the faithful, ‘Shall we feed [someone] whom Allah would feed, if He wished? You are only in manifest error.’
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
wa-yaqūlūna matā hāḏā l-waʿdu ˈin kuntum ṣādiqīna
And they say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, should you be truthful?’
مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ
mā yanẓurūna ˈillā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan taˈḫuḏuhum wa-hum yaḫiṣṣimūna
They do not await but a single Cry that will seize them as they wrangle.
فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةً وَلَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
fa-lā yastaṭīʿūna tawṣiyatan wa-lā ˈilā ˈahlihim yarǧiʿūna
Then they will not be able to make any will, nor will they return to their folks.
وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنسِلُونَ
wa-nufiḫa fī ṣ-ṣūri fa-ˈiḏā hum mina l-ˈaǧdāṯi ˈilā rabbihim yansilūna
And when the Trumpet is blown, behold, there they will be, scrambling towards their Lord from their graves!
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ هَـٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
qālū yā-waylanā man baʿaṯanā min marqadinā hāḏā mā waʿada r-raḥmānu wa-ṣadaqa l-mursalūna
They will say, ‘Woe to us! Who raised us from our place of sleep?’ ‘This is what the All-beneficent had promised, and the apostles had spoken the truth!’
إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ
ˈin kānat ˈillā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fa-ˈiḏā hum ǧamīʿun ladaynā muḥḍarūna
It will be but a single Cry, and, behold, they will all be presented before Us!
فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
fa-l-yawma lā tuẓlamu nafsun šayˈan wa-lā tuǧzawna ˈillā mā kuntum taʿmalūna
‘Today no soul will be wronged in the least, nor will you be requited except for what you used to do.’
إِنَّ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلْيَوْمَ فِى شُغُلٍ فَـٰكِهُونَ
ˈinna ˈaṣḥāba l-ǧannati l-yawma fī šuġulin fākihūna
Indeed today the inhabitants of paradise rejoice in their engagements
هُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُهُمْ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ مُتَّكِـُٔونَ
hum wa-ˈazwāǧuhum fī ẓilālin ʿalā l-ˈarāˈiki muttakiˈūna
—they and their mates, reclining on couches in the shades.
لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ
lahum fīhā fākihatun wa-lahum mā yaddaʿūna
There they have fruits, and they have whatever they want.
سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْلًا مِّن رَّبٍّ رَّحِيمٍ
salāmun qawlan min rabbin raḥīmin
‘Peace!’—a watchword from the all-merciful Lord.
وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
wa-mtāzū l-yawma ˈayyuhā l-muǧrimūna
And ‘Get apart today, you guilty ones!’
أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوا۟ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ
ˈa-lam ˈaʿhad ˈilaykum yā-banī ˈādama ˈan lā taʿbudū š-šayṭāna ˈinnahū lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnun
‘Did I not exhort you, O children of Adam, saying, “Do not worship Satan. He is indeed your manifest enemy.
وَأَنِ ٱعْبُدُونِى ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ
wa-ˈani ʿbudūnī hāḏā ṣirāṭun mustaqīmun
Worship Me. That is a straight path”?
وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِيرًا ۖ أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعْقِلُونَ
wa-la-qad ˈaḍalla minkum ǧibillan kaṯīran ˈa-fa-lam takūnū taʿqilūna
Certainly, he has led astray many of your generations. Have you not exercised your reason?
هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ
hāḏihī ǧahannamu llatī kuntum tūʿadūna
This is the hell you had been promised!
ٱصْلَوْهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ
iṣlawhā l-yawma bi-mā kuntum takfurūna
Enter it today, because of what you used to deny.
ٱلْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَىٰٓ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
al-yawma naḫtimu ʿalā ˈafwāhihim wa-tukallimunā ˈaydīhim wa-tašhadu ˈarǧuluhum bi-mā kānū yaksibūna
Today We shall seal their mouths, and their hands shall speak to Us, and their feet shall bear witness concerning what they used to earn.’
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ
wa-law našāˈu la-ṭamasnā ʿalā ˈaʿyunihim fa-stabaqū ṣ-ṣirāṭa fa-ˈannā yubṣirūna
Had We wished We would have blotted out their eyes: then, were they to advance towards the path, how would have they seen?
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مُضِيًّا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ
wa-law našāˈu la-masaḫnāhum ʿalā makānatihim fa-mā staṭāʿū muḍiyyan wa-lā yarǧiʿūna
And had We wished We would have deformed them in their place; then they would neither have been able to move ahead nor to return.
وَمَن نُّعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِى ٱلْخَلْقِ ۖ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ
wa-man nuʿammirhu nunakkishu fī l-ḫalqi ˈa-fa-lā yaʿqilūna
And whomever We give a long life, We cause him to regress in creation. Then, will they not exercise their reason?
وَمَا عَلَّمْنَـٰهُ ٱلشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْءَانٌ مُّبِينٌ
wa-mā ʿallamnāhu š-šiʿra wa-mā yanbaġī lahū ˈin huwa ˈillā ḏikrun wa-qurˈānun mubīnun
We did not teach him poetry, nor does it behoove him. This is just a reminder and a manifest Quran,
لِّيُنذِرَ مَن كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
li-yunḏira man kāna ḥayyan wa-yaḥiqqa l-qawlu ʿalā l-kāfirīna
so that anyone who is alive may be warned, and that the word may come due against the faithless.
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُم مِّمَّا عَمِلَتْ أَيْدِينَآ أَنْعَـٰمًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مَـٰلِكُونَ
ˈa-wa-lam yaraw ˈannā ḫalaqnā lahum mimmā ʿamilat ˈaydīnā ˈanʿāman fa-hum lahā mālikūna
Have they not seen that We have created for them—of what Our hands have worked—cattle, so they have become their masters?
وَذَلَّلْنَـٰهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ
wa-ḏallalnāhā lahum fa-minhā rakūbuhum wa-minhā yaˈkulūna
And We made them tractable for them; so some of them make their mounts and some of them they eat.
وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَـٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ
wa-lahum fīhā manāfiʿu wa-mašāribu ˈa-fa-lā yaškurūna
There are other benefits for them therein, and drinks. Will they not then give thanks?
وَٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً لَّعَلَّهُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
wa-ttaḫaḏū min dūni llāhi ˈālihatan laʿallahum yunṣarūna
They have taken gods besides Allah, [hoping] that they might be helped [by the fake deities].
لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُندٌ مُّحْضَرُونَ
lā yastaṭīʿūna naṣrahum wa-hum lahum ǧundun muḥḍarūna
[But] they cannot help them, while they [themselves] are an army mobilized for their defence.
فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
fa-lā yaḥzunka qawluhum ˈinnā naʿlamu mā yusirrūna wa-mā yuʿlinūna
So do not let their remarks grieve you. We indeed know whatever they hide and whatever they disclose.
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ
ˈa-wa-lam yara l-ˈinsānu ˈannā ḫalaqnāhu min nuṭfatin fa-ˈiḏā huwa ḫaṣīmun mubīnun
Does not man see that We created him from a drop of [seminal] fluid, and, behold, he is an open contender!?
وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِىَ خَلْقَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ مَن يُحْىِ ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ وَهِىَ رَمِيمٌ
wa-ḍaraba lanā maṯalan wa-nasiya ḫalqahū qāla man yuḥyi l-ʿiẓāma wa-hiya ramīmun
He draws comparisons for Us, and forgets his own creation. He says, ‘Who shall revive the bones when they have decayed?’
قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَهَآ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ
qul yuḥyīhā llaḏī ˈanšaˈahā ˈawwala marratin wa-huwa bi-kulli ḫalqin ʿalīmun-i
Say, ‘He will revive them who produced them the first time, and He has knowledge of all creation.
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ ٱلْأَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَإِذَآ أَنتُم مِّنْهُ تُوقِدُونَ
allaḏī ǧaʿala lakum mina š-šaǧari l-ˈaḫḍari nāran fa-ˈiḏā ˈantum minhu tūqidūna
He, who made for you fire out of the green tree, and, behold, you light fire from it!
أَوَلَيْسَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
ˈa-wa-laysa llaḏī ḫalaqa s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍa bi-qādirin ʿalā ˈan yaḫluqa miṯlahum balā wa-huwa l-ḫallāqu l-ʿalīmu
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like of them? Yes indeed! He is the All-creator, the All-knowing.
إِنَّمَآ أَمْرُهُۥٓ إِذَآ أَرَادَ شَيْـًٔا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
ˈinnamā ˈamruhū ˈiḏā ˈarāda šayˈan ˈan yaqūla lahū kun fa-yakūnu
All His command, when He wills something, is to say to it ‘Be,’ and it is.
فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
fa-subḥāna llaḏī bi-yadihī malakūtu kulli šayˈin wa-ˈilayhi turǧaʿūna
So immaculate is He in whose hand is the dominion of all things, and to whom you shall be brought back.
