Surah Saad

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 38:1

   صٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ذِى ٱلذِّكْرِ﴿١﴾

   ṣ (ṣād) wa-l-qurˈāni ḏī ḏ-ḏikri

   Suad. By the Quran bearing the Reminder,

2. 38:2

   بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ﴿٢﴾

   bali llaḏīna kafarū fī ʿizzatin wa-šiqāqin

   the faithless indeed dwell in conceit and defiance.

3. 38:3

   كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوا۟ وَّلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ﴿٣﴾

   kam ˈahlaknā min qablihim min qarnin fa-nādaw wa-lāta ḥīna manāṣin

   How many a generation We have destroyed before them! They cried out [for help], but gone was the time for escape.

4. 38:4

   وَعَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا سَـٰحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ﴿٤﴾

   wa-ʿaǧibū ˈan ǧāˈahum munḏirun minhum wa-qāla l-kāfirūna hāḏā sāḥirun kaḏḏābun

   They consider it odd that there should come to them a warner from among themselves, and the faithless say, ‘This is a magician, a mendacious liar.’

5. 38:5

   أَجَعَلَ ٱلْـَٔالِهَةَ إِلَـٰهًا وَٰحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ عُجَابٌ﴿٥﴾

   ˈa-ǧaʿala l-ˈālihata ˈilāhan wāḥidan ˈinna hāḏā la-šayˈun ʿuǧābun

   ‘Has he reduced the gods to one god? This is indeed an odd thing!’

6. 38:6

   وَٱنطَلَقَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱمْشُوا۟ وَٱصْبِرُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ يُرَادُ﴿٦﴾

   wa-nṭalaqa l-malaˈu minhum ˈani mšū wa-ṣbirū ʿalā ˈālihatikum ˈinna hāḏā la-šayˈun yurādu

   Their elite go about [urging others]: ‘Go and stand by your gods! This is indeed the desirable thing [to do].

7. 38:7

   مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِى ٱلْمِلَّةِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ﴿٧﴾

   mā samiʿnā bi-hāḏā fī l-millati l-ˈāḫirati ˈin hāḏā ˈillā ḫtilāqun

   We did not hear of this in the latter-day creed. This is nothing but a fabrication.

8. 38:8

   أَءُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ مِّن ذِكْرِى ۖ بَل لَّمَّا يَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِ﴿٨﴾

   ˈa-ˈunzila ʿalayhi ḏ-ḏikru min bayninā bal hum fī šakkin min ḏikrī bal lammā yaḏūqū ʿaḏābi

   Has the Reminder been sent down to him out of [all of] us?’ Indeed, they are in doubt concerning My Reminder. Indeed, they have not yet tasted My punishment.

9. 38:9

   أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْوَهَّابِ﴿٩﴾

   ˈam ʿindahum ḫazāˈinu raḥmati rabbika l-ʿazīzi l-wahhābi

   Do they possess the treasuries of the mercy of your Lord, the All-mighty, the All-munificent?

10. 38:10

    أَمْ لَهُم مُّلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَسْبَـٰبِ﴿١٠﴾

    ˈam lahum mulku s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-mā baynahumā fa-l-yartaqū fī l-ˈasbābi

    Do they own the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them? [If so,] let them ascend [to the higher spheres] by the means [of ascension].

11. 38:11

    جُندٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ﴿١١﴾

    ǧundun mā hunālika mahzūmun mina l-ˈaḥzābi

    [They are but] a host routed out there of the factions.

12. 38:12

    كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو ٱلْأَوْتَادِ﴿١٢﴾

    kaḏḏabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-ʿādun wa-firʿawnu ḏū l-ˈawtādi

    Before them Noah’s people impugned [their apostle] and [so did the people of] ‘Ad, and Pharaoh, the Impaler [of his victims],

13. 38:13

    وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَـٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ﴿١٣﴾

    wa-ṯamūdu wa-qawmu lūṭin wa-ˈaṣḥābu l-ˈaykati ˈulāˈika l-ˈaḥzābu

    and Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the inhabitants of Aykah: those were the factions.

14. 38:14

    إِن كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ﴿١٤﴾

    ˈin kullun ˈillā kaḏḏaba r-rusula fa-ḥaqqa ʿiqābi

    There was not any one but such as impugned the apostles; so My retribution became due [against them].

15. 38:15

    وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ﴿١٥﴾

    wa-mā yanẓuru hāˈulāˈi ˈillā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan mā lahā min fawāqin

    These [too] do not await but a single Cry, which will not grant [them] any respite.

16. 38:16

    وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا عَجِّل لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ﴿١٦﴾

    wa-qālū rabbanā ʿaǧǧil lanā qiṭṭanā qabla yawmi l-ḥisābi

    They say, ‘Our Lord! Hasten on for us our share before the Day of Reckoning.’

17. 38:17

    ٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُۥدَ ذَا ٱلْأَيْدِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ﴿١٧﴾

    iṣbir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wa-ḏkur ʿabdanā dāwūda ḏā l-ˈaydi ˈinnahū ˈawwābun

    Be patient over what they say, and remember Our servant, David, [the man] of strength. Indeed he was a penitent [soul].

18. 38:18

    إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا ٱلْجِبَالَ مَعَهُۥ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ﴿١٨﴾

    ˈinnā saḫḫarnā l-ǧibāla maʿahū yusabbiḥna bi-l-ʿašiyyi wa-l-ˈišrāqi

    We disposed the mountains to glorify [Allah] with him at evening and dawn,

19. 38:19

    وَٱلطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً ۖ كُلٌّ لَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ﴿١٩﴾

    wa-ṭ-ṭayra maḥšūratan kullun lahū ˈawwābun

    and the birds [as well], mustered [in flocks]; all echoing him [in a chorus].

20. 38:20

    وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُۥ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ ٱلْخِطَابِ﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-šaddadnā mulkahū wa-ˈātaynāhu l-ḥikmata wa-faṣla l-ḫiṭābi

    We consolidated his kingdom and gave him wisdom and conclusive speech.

21. 38:21

    وَهَلْ أَتَىٰكَ نَبَؤُا۟ ٱلْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا۟ ٱلْمِحْرَابَ﴿٢١﴾

    wa-hal ˈatāka nabaˈu l-ḫaṣmi ˈiḏ tasawwarū l-miḥrāba

    Has there not come to you the account of the contenders, when they scaled the wall into the sanctuary?

22. 38:22

    إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ دَاوُۥدَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَٱهْدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ﴿٢٢﴾

    ˈiḏ daḫalū ʿalā dāwūda fa-faziʿa minhum qālū lā taḫaf ḫaṣmāni baġā baʿḍunā ʿalā baʿḍin fa-ḥkum baynanā bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-lā tušṭiṭ wa-hdinā ˈilā sawāˈi ṣ-ṣirāṭi

    When they entered into the presence of David, he was alarmed by them. They said, ‘Do not be afraid. [We are only] two contenders: one of us has bullied the other. So judge justly between us, and do not exceed [the bounds of justice], and show us the right path.’

23. 38:23

    إِنَّ هَـٰذَآ أَخِى لَهُۥ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِىَ نَعْجَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِى فِى ٱلْخِطَابِ﴿٢٣﴾

    ˈinna hāḏā ˈaḫī lahū tisʿun wa-tisʿūna naʿǧatan wa-liya naʿǧatun wāḥidatun fa-qāla ˈakfilnīhā wa-ʿazzanī fī l-ḫitābi

    ‘This brother of mine has ninety-nine ewes, while I have only a single ewe, and [yet] he says, ‘Commit it to my care,’ and he browbeats me in speech.’

24. 38:24Sajdah

    قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِۦ ۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلْخُلَطَآءِ لَيَبْغِى بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَّا هُمْ ۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُۥدُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّـٰهُ فَٱسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُۥ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ ۩﴿٢٤﴾

    qāla la-qad ẓalamaka bi-suˈāli naʿǧatika ˈilā niʿāǧihī wa-ˈinna kaṯīran mina l-ḫulaṭāˈi la-yabġī baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin ˈillā llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti wa-qalīlun mā hum wa-ẓanna dāwūdu ˈannamā fatannāhu fa-staġfara rabbahū wa-ḫarra rākiʿan wa-ˈanāba

    He said, ‘He has certainly wronged you by asking your ewe in addition to his own ewes, and indeed many partners bully one another, except such as have faith and do righteous deeds, and few are they.’ Then David knew that We had tested him, whereat he pleaded with his Lord for forgiveness, and fell down in prostration and repented.

25. 38:25

    فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُۥ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ﴿٢٥﴾

    fa-ġafarnā lahū ḏālika wa-ˈinna lahū ʿindanā la-zulfā wa-ḥusna maˈābin

    So We forgave him that, and indeed he has [a station of] nearness with Us and a good destination.

26. 38:26

    يَـٰدَاوُۥدُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰكَ خَلِيفَةً فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱحْكُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ ٱلْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌۢ بِمَا نَسُوا۟ يَوْمَ ٱلْحِسَابِ﴿٢٦﴾

    yā-dāwūdu ˈinnā ǧaʿalnāka ḫalīfatan fī l-ˈarḍi fa-ḥkum bayna n-nāsi bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-lā tattabiʿi l-hawā fa-yuḍillaka ʿan sabīli llāhi ˈinna llaḏīna yaḍillūna ʿan sabīli llāhi lahum ʿaḏābun šadīdun bi-mā nasū yawma l-ḥisābi

    ‘O David! Indeed, We have made you a vicegerent on the earth. So judge between people with justice, and do not follow your desires, or they will lead you astray from the way of Allah. Indeed there is a severe punishment for those who stray from the way of Allah, because of their forgetting the Day of Reckoning.’

27. 38:27

    وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَـٰطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ﴿٢٧﴾

    wa-mā ḫalaqnā s-samāˈa wa-l-ˈarḍa wa-mā baynahumā bāṭilan ḏālika ẓannu llaḏīna kafarū fa-waylun li-llaḏīna kafarū mina n-nāri

    We did not create the sky and the earth and whatever is between them in vain. That is a conjecture of the faithless. So woe to the faithless for the Fire!

28. 38:28

    أَمْ نَجْعَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ كَٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ كَٱلْفُجَّارِ﴿٢٨﴾

    ˈam naǧʿalu llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti ka-l-mufsidīna fī l-ˈarḍi ˈam naǧʿalu l-muttaqīna ka-l-fuǧǧāri

    Shall We treat those who have faith and do righteous deeds like those who cause corruption on the earth? Shall We treat the Godwary like the vicious?

29. 38:29

    كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَـٰرَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوٓا۟ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ﴿٢٩﴾

    kitābun ˈanzalnāhu ˈilayka mubārakun li-yaddabbarū ˈāyātihī wa-li-yataḏakkara ˈulū l-ˈalbābi

    [This is] a blessed Book that We have sent down to you, so that they may contemplate its signs, and that those who possess intellect may take admonition.

30. 38:30

    وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُۥدَ سُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ نِعْمَ ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ﴿٣٠﴾

    wa-wahabnā li-dāwūda sulaymāna niʿma l-ʿabdu ˈinnahū ˈawwābun

    And to David We gave Solomon—what an excellent servant he was! Indeed, he was a penitent [soul].

31. 38:31

    إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ ٱلصَّـٰفِنَـٰتُ ٱلْجِيَادُ﴿٣١﴾

    ˈiḏ ʿuriḍa ʿalayhi bi-l-ʿašiyyi ṣ-ṣāfinātu l-ǧiyādu

    One evening when there were displayed before him prancing steeds,

32. 38:32

    فَقَالَ إِنِّىٓ أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ ٱلْخَيْرِ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّى حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِٱلْحِجَابِ﴿٣٢﴾

    fa-qāla ˈinnī ˈaḥbabtu ḥubba l-ḫayri ʿan ḏikri rabbī ḥattā tawārat bi-l-ḥiǧābi

    he said, ‘Indeed I have preferred the love of [worldly] niceties to the remembrance of my Lord until [the sun] disappeared behind the [night’s] veil.’

33. 38:33

    رُدُّوهَا عَلَىَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًۢا بِٱلسُّوقِ وَٱلْأَعْنَاقِ﴿٣٣﴾

    ruddūhā ʿalayya fa-ṭafiqa masḥan bi-s-sūqi wa-l-ˈaʿnāqi

    ‘Bring it back for me!’ Then he [and others] began to wipe [their] legs and necks.

34. 38:34

    وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَـٰنَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِۦ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ﴿٣٤﴾

    wa-la-qad fatannā sulaymāna wa-ˈalqaynā ʿalā kursiyyihī ǧasadan ṯumma ˈanāba

    Certainly We tried Solomon, and cast a [lifeless] body on his throne. Thereupon he was penitent.

35. 38:35

    قَالَ رَبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَهَبْ لِى مُلْكًا لَّا يَنۢبَغِى لِأَحَدٍ مِّنۢ بَعْدِىٓ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ﴿٣٥﴾

    qāla rabbi ġfir lī wa-hab lī mulkan lā yanbaġī li-ˈaḥadin min baʿdī ˈinnaka ˈanta l-wahhābu

    He said, ‘My Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom that will not befit anyone except me. Indeed You are the All-munificent.’

36. 38:36

    فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ ٱلرِّيحَ تَجْرِى بِأَمْرِهِۦ رُخَآءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ﴿٣٦﴾

    fa-saḫḫarnā lahu r-rīḥa taǧrī bi-ˈamrihī ruḫāˈan ḥayṯu ˈaṣāba

    So We disposed the wind for him, blowing softly wherever he intended by his command,

37. 38:37

    وَٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّآءٍ وَغَوَّاصٍ﴿٣٧﴾

    wa-š-šayāṭīna kulla bannāˈin wa-ġawwāṣin

    and every builder and diver from the demons,

38. 38:38

    وَءَاخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِى ٱلْأَصْفَادِ﴿٣٨﴾

    wa-ˈāḫarīna muqarranīna fī l-ˈaṣfādi

    and others [too] bound together in chains.

39. 38:39

    هَـٰذَا عَطَآؤُنَا فَٱمْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ﴿٣٩﴾

    hāḏā ʿaṭāˈunā fa-mnun ˈaw ˈamsik bi-ġayri ḥisābin

    ‘This is Our bounty: so withhold or bestow without any reckoning.’

40. 38:40

    وَإِنَّ لَهُۥ عِندَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ﴿٤٠﴾

    wa-ˈinna lahū ʿindanā la-zulfā wa-ḥusna maˈābin

    Indeed he has [a station of] nearness with Us and a good destination.

41. 38:41

    وَٱذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَآ أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَسَّنِىَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ﴿٤١﴾

    wa-ḏkur ʿabdanā ˈayyūba ˈiḏ nādā rabbahū ˈannī massaniya š-šayṭānu bi-nuṣbin wa-ʿaḏābin-i

    And remember Our servant Job [in the Quran]. When he called out to his Lord, ‘The devil has visited on me hardship and torment,’

42. 38:42

    ٱرْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَـٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌۢ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ﴿٤٢﴾

    urkuḍ bi-riǧlika hāḏā muġtasalun bāridun wa-šarābun

    [We told him:] ‘Stamp your foot on the ground; this [ensuing spring] will be a cooling bath and drink.’

43. 38:43

    وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ أَهْلَهُۥ وَمِثْلَهُم مَّعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ﴿٤٣﴾

    wa-wahabnā lahū ˈahlahū wa-miṯlahum maʿahum raḥmatan minnā wa-ḏikrā li-ˈulī l-ˈalbābi

    We gave [back] his family to him along with others like them, as a mercy from Us and an admonition for those who possess intellect.

44. 38:44

    وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَٱضْرِب بِّهِۦ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَـٰهُ صَابِرًا ۚ نِّعْمَ ٱلْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ﴿٤٤﴾

    wa-ḫuḏ bi-yadika ḍiġṯan fa-ḍrib bihī wa-lā taḥnaṯ ˈinnā waǧadnāhu ṣābiran niʿma l-ʿabdu ˈinnahū ˈawwābun

    [We told him:] ‘Take a faggot in your hand and then strike [your wife] with it, but do not break [your] oath.’ Indeed, We found him to be patient. What an excellent servant! Indeed he was a penitent [soul].

45. 38:45

    وَٱذْكُرْ عِبَـٰدَنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُو۟لِى ٱلْأَيْدِى وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ﴿٤٥﴾

    wa-ḏkur ʿibādanā ˈibrāhīma wa-ˈisḥāqa wa-yaʿqūba ˈulī l-ˈaydī wa-l-ˈabṣāri

    And remember Our servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, men of strength and insight.

46. 38:46

    إِنَّآ أَخْلَصْنَـٰهُم بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى ٱلدَّارِ﴿٤٦﴾

    ˈinnā ˈaḫlaṣnāhum bi-ḫāliṣatin ḏikrā d-dāri

    Indeed We purified them with exclusive remembrance of the abode [of the Hereafter].

47. 38:47

    وَإِنَّهُمْ عِندَنَا لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصْطَفَيْنَ ٱلْأَخْيَارِ﴿٤٧﴾

    wa-ˈinnahum ʿindanā la-mina l-muṣṭafayna l-ˈaḫyāri

    Indeed they are surely with Us among the elect of the best.

48. 38:48

    وَٱذْكُرْ إِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَٱلْيَسَعَ وَذَا ٱلْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِّنَ ٱلْأَخْيَارِ﴿٤٨﴾

    wa-ḏkur ˈismāʿīla wa-l-yasaʿa wa-ḏā l-kifli wa-kullun mina l-ˈaḫyāri

    And remember Ishmael, Elisha and Dhu’l-Kifl—each [of whom was] among the elect.

49. 38:49

    هَـٰذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَـَٔابٍ﴿٤٩﴾

    hāḏā ḏikrun wa-ˈinna li-l-muttaqīna la-ḥusna maˈābin

    This is a Reminder, and indeed the Godwary have a good destination:

50. 38:50

    جَنَّـٰتِ عَدْنٍ مُّفَتَّحَةً لَّهُمُ ٱلْأَبْوَٰبُ﴿٥٠﴾

    ǧannāti ʿadnin mufattaḥatan lahumu l-ˈabwābu

    the Gardens of Eden, whose gates will be flung open for them.

51. 38:51

    مُتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ﴿٥١﴾

    muttakiˈīna fīhā yadʿūna fīhā bi-fākihatin kaṯīratin wa-šarābin

    Reclining therein [on couches], they will call for abundant fruits and drinks,

52. 38:52

    وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ﴿٥٢﴾

    wa-ʿindahum qāṣirātu ṭ-ṭarfi ˈatrābun

    and there will be with them maidens of restrained glances, of a like age.

53. 38:53

    هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ ٱلْحِسَابِ﴿٥٣﴾

    hāḏā mā tūʿadūna li-yawmi l-ḥisābi

    This is what you are promised on the Day of Reckoning.

54. 38:54

    إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُۥ مِن نَّفَادٍ﴿٥٤﴾

    ˈinna hāḏā la-rizqunā mā lahū min nafādin

    This is Our provision, which will never be exhausted.

55. 38:55

    هَـٰذَا ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّـٰغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَـَٔابٍ﴿٥٥﴾

    hāḏā wa-ˈinna li-ṭ-ṭāġīna la-šarra maˈābin

    This [will be for the righteous], and as for the rebellious there will surely be a bad destination:

56. 38:56

    جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ﴿٥٦﴾

    ǧahannama yaṣlawnahā fa-biˈsa l-mihādu

    hell, which they shall enter, an evil resting place.

57. 38:57

    هَـٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ﴿٥٧﴾

    hāḏā fa-l-yaḏūqūhu ḥamīmun wa-ġassāqun

    [They will be told, ‘This is scalding water and pus; let them taste it,

58. 38:58

    وَءَاخَرُ مِن شَكْلِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجٌ﴿٥٨﴾

    wa-ˈāḫaru min šaklihī ˈazwāǧun

    and other kinds [of torments] resembling it.’

59. 38:59

    هَـٰذَا فَوْجٌ مُّقْتَحِمٌ مَّعَكُمْ ۖ لَا مَرْحَبًۢا بِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُوا۟ ٱلنَّارِ﴿٥٩﴾

    hāḏā fawǧun muqtaḥimun maʿakum lā marḥaban bihim ˈinnahum ṣālū n-nāri

    [The leaders of the faithless will be told,] ‘This is a group [of your followers] plunging [into hell] along with you.’ [They will repond,] ‘May wretchedness be their lot! For they will enter the Fire.’

60. 38:60

    قَالُوا۟ بَلْ أَنتُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًۢا بِكُمْ ۖ أَنتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ لَنَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ ٱلْقَرَارُ﴿٦٠﴾

    qālū bal ˈantum lā marḥaban bikum ˈantum qaddamtumūhu lanā fa-biˈsa l-qarāru

    They will say, ‘No, may wretchedness be your lot! You prepared this [hell] for us. What an evil abode!’

61. 38:61

    قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا مَن قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَـٰذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا فِى ٱلنَّارِ﴿٦١﴾

    qālū rabbanā man qaddama lanā hāḏā fa-zidhu ʿaḏāban ḍiʿfan fī n-nāri

    They will say, ‘Our Lord! Whoever has prepared this for us, double his punishment in the Fire!’

62. 38:62

    وَقَالُوا۟ مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالًا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَشْرَارِ﴿٦٢﴾

    wa-qālū mā lanā lā narā riǧālan kunnā naʿudduhum mina l-ˈašrāri

    And they will say, ‘Why is it that we do not see [here] men whom we used to count among the bad ones,

63. 38:63

    أَتَّخَذْنَـٰهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ﴿٦٣﴾

    ˈa-ttaḫaḏnāhum siḫriyyan ˈam zāġat ʿanhumu l-ˈabṣāru

    ridiculing them, or do [our] eyes miss them [here]?’

64. 38:64

    إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ ٱلنَّارِ﴿٦٤﴾

    ˈinna ḏālika la-ḥaqqun taḫāṣumu ˈahli n-nāri

    That is indeed a true account of the contentions of the inmates of the Fire.

65. 38:65

    قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَـٰهٍ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ٱلْوَٰحِدُ ٱلْقَهَّارُ﴿٦٥﴾

    qul ˈinnamā ˈana munḏirun wa-mā min ˈilāhin ˈillā llāhu l-wāḥidu l-qahhāru

    Say, ‘I am just a warner, and there is no god except Allah, the One, the All-paramount,

66. 38:66

    رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفَّـٰرُ﴿٦٦﴾

    rabbu s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-mā baynahumā l-ʿazīzu l-ġaffāru

    the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the All-mighty, the All-forgiver.’

67. 38:67

    قُلْ هُوَ نَبَؤٌا۟ عَظِيمٌ﴿٦٧﴾

    qul huwa nabaˈun ʿaẓīmun

    Say, ‘It is a great prophesy,

68. 38:68

    أَنتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ﴿٦٨﴾

    ˈantum ʿanhu muʿriḍūna

    of which you are disregardful.

69. 38:69

    مَا كَانَ لِىَ مِنْ عِلْمٍۭ بِٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰٓ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ﴿٦٩﴾

    mā kāna liya min ʿilmin bi-l-malaˈi l-ˈaʿlā ˈiḏ yaḫtaṣimūna

    I have no knowledge of the Supernal Elite when they contend.

70. 38:70

    إِن يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ إِلَّآ أَنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿٧٠﴾

    ˈin yūḥā ˈilayya ˈillā ˈannamā ˈana naḏīrun mubīnun

    All that is revealed to me is that I am just a manifest warner.’

71. 38:71

    إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَـٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن طِينٍ﴿٧١﴾

    ˈiḏ qāla rabbuka li-l-malāˈikati ˈinnī ḫāliqun bašaran min ṭīnin

    When your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed I am about to create a human being out of clay.

72. 38:72

    فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِينَ﴿٧٢﴾

    fa-ˈiḏā sawwaytuhū wa-nafaḫtu fīhi min rūḥī fa-qaʿū lahū sāǧidīna

    So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, then fall down in prostration before him.’

73. 38:73

    فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ﴿٧٣﴾

    fa-saǧada l-malāˈikatu kulluhum ˈaǧmaʿūna

    Thereat the angels prostrated, all of them together,

74. 38:74

    إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ ٱسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ﴿٧٤﴾

    ˈillā ˈiblīsa stakbara wa-kāna mina l-kāfirīna

    but not Iblis; he acted arrogantly and he was one of the faithless.

75. 38:75

    قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَىَّ ۖ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْعَالِينَ﴿٧٥﴾

    qāla yā-ˈiblīsu mā manaʿaka ˈan tasǧuda li-mā ḫalaqtu bi-yadayya ˈa-stakbarta ˈam kunta mina l-ʿālīna

    He said, ‘O Iblis! What keeps you from prostrating before that which I have created with My [own] two hands? Are you arrogant, or are you one of the exalted ones?’

76. 38:76

    قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ ۖ خَلَقْتَنِى مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن طِينٍ﴿٧٦﴾

    qāla ˈana ḫayrun minhu ḫalaqtanī min nārin wa-ḫalaqtahū min ṭīnin

    ‘I am better than him,’ he said. ‘You created me from fire and You created him from clay.’

77. 38:77

    قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ﴿٧٧﴾

    qāla fa-ḫruǧ minhā fa-ˈinnaka raǧīmun

    He said, ‘Begone hence, for you are indeed an outcast,

78. 38:78

    وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ﴿٧٨﴾

    wa-ˈinna ʿalayka laʿnatī ˈilā yawmi d-dīni

    and indeed My curse will be on you till the Day of Retribution.’

79. 38:79

    قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ﴿٧٩﴾

    qāla rabbi fa-ˈanẓirnī ˈilā yawmi yubʿaṯūna

    He said, ‘My Lord! Respite me till the day they will be resurrected.’

80. 38:80

    قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ﴿٨٠﴾

    qāla fa-ˈinnaka mina l-munẓarīna

    Said He, ‘You are indeed among the reprieved

81. 38:81

    إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ﴿٨١﴾

    ˈilā yawmi l-waqti l-maʿlūmi

    until the day of the known time.’

82. 38:82

    قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿٨٢﴾

    qāla fa-bi-ʿizzatika la-ˈuġwiyannahum ˈaǧmaʿīna

    He said, ‘By Your might, I will surely pervert them,

83. 38:83

    إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ﴿٨٣﴾

    ˈillā ʿibādaka minhumu l-muḫlaṣīna

    except Your exclusive servants among them.’

84. 38:84

    قَالَ فَٱلْحَقُّ وَٱلْحَقَّ أَقُولُ﴿٨٤﴾

    qāla fa-l-ḥaqqu wa-l-ḥaqqa ˈaqūlu

    Said He, ‘The truth is that—and I speak the truth—

85. 38:85

    لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكَ وَمِمَّن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿٨٥﴾

    la-ˈamlaˈanna ǧahannama minka wa-mimman tabiʿaka minhum ˈaǧmaʿīna

    I will surely fill hell with you and all those who follow you.’

86. 38:86

    قُلْ مَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ﴿٨٦﴾

    qul mā ˈasˈalukum ʿalayhi min ˈaǧrin wa-mā ˈana mina l-mutakallifīna

    Say, ‘I do not ask you any reward for it, and I am no impostor.

87. 38:87

    إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿٨٧﴾

    ˈin huwa ˈillā ḏikrun li-l-ʿālamīna

    It is just a reminder for all the nations,

88. 38:88

    وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُۥ بَعْدَ حِينٍۭ﴿٨٨﴾

    wa-la-taʿlamunna nabaˈahū baʿda ḥīnin

    and you will surely learn its tidings in due time.’
