Surah 42
سُورَةُ الشُّورَىٰ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
حمٓ
ḥ-m (ḥā mīm)
Ha, Meem,
عٓسٓقٓ
ʿ-s-q (ʿayn sīn qāf)
‘Ayn, Seen, Qaf.
كَذَٰلِكَ يُوحِىٓ إِلَيْكَ وَإِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
ka-ḏālika yūḥī ˈilayka wa-ˈilā llaḏīna min qablika llāhu l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu
Allah, the All-mighty and the All-wise, thus reveals to you and to those who were before you:
لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
lahū mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-huwa l-ʿaliyyu l-ʿaẓīmu
whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth belongs to Him, and He is the All-exalted, the All-supreme.
تَكَادُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِن فَوْقِهِنَّ ۚ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
takādu s-samāwātu yatafaṭṭarna min fawqihinna wa-l-malāˈikatu yusabbiḥūna bi-ḥamdi rabbihim wa-yastaġfirūna li-man fī l-ˈarḍi ˈa-lā ˈinna llāha huwa l-ġafūru r-raḥīmu
The heavens are about to be rent apart from above them, while the angels celebrate the praise of their Lord and plead for forgiveness for those [faithful] who are on the earth. Indeed, Allah is the All-forgiving, the All-merciful!
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱللَّهُ حَفِيظٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِوَكِيلٍ
wa-llaḏīna ttaḫaḏū min dūnihī ˈawliyāˈa llāhu ḥafīẓun ʿalayhim wa-mā ˈanta ʿalayhim bi-wakīlin
As for those who have taken awliya besides Him, Allah is watchful over them, and you are not their keeper.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ قُرْءَانًا عَرَبِيًّا لِّتُنذِرَ أُمَّ ٱلْقُرَىٰ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهَا وَتُنذِرَ يَوْمَ ٱلْجَمْعِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ فَرِيقٌ فِى ٱلْجَنَّةِ وَفَرِيقٌ فِى ٱلسَّعِيرِ
wa-ka-ḏālika ˈawḥaynā ˈilayka qurˈānan ʿarabiyyan li-tunḏira ˈumma l-qurā wa-man ḥawlahā wa-tunḏira yawma l-ǧamʿi lā rayba fīhi farīqun fī l-ǧannati wa-farīqun fī s-saʿīri
Thus have We revealed to you an Arabic Quran that you may warn [the people of] the Mother of the Towns and those around it, and warn [them] of the Day of Gathering, in which there is no doubt, [whereupon] a part [of mankind] will be in paradise and a part will be in the Blaze.
وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَهُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَلَـٰكِن يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ وَٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ مَا لَهُم مِّن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ
wa-law šāˈa llāhu la-ǧaʿalahum ˈummatan wāḥidatan wa-lākin yudḫilu man yašāˈu fī raḥmatihī wa-ẓ-ẓālimūna mā lahum min waliyyin wa-lā naṣīrin
Had Allah wished, He would have surely made them one community; but He admits whomever He wishes into His mercy, and the wrongdoers do not have any guardian or helper.
أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۖ فَٱللَّهُ هُوَ ٱلْوَلِىُّ وَهُوَ يُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
ˈami ttaḫaḏū min dūnihī ˈawliyāˈa fa-llāhu huwa l-waliyyu wa-huwa yuḥyi l-mawtā wa-huwa ʿalā kulli šayˈin qadīrun
Have they taken awliya besides Him? [Say,] ‘It is Allah, who is the [true] Wali, and He revives the dead, and He has power over all things.
وَمَا ٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِيهِ مِن شَىْءٍ فَحُكْمُهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّى عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ
wa-mā ḫtalaftum fīhi min šayˈin fa-ḥukmuhū ˈilā llāhi ḏālikumu llāhu rabbī ʿalayhi tawakkaltu wa-ˈilayhi ˈunību
Whatever thing you may differ about, its judgement is with Allah. That is Allah, my Lord. In Him, I have put my trust, and to Him do I turn penitently.
فَاطِرُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا وَمِنَ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ أَزْوَٰجًا ۖ يَذْرَؤُكُمْ فِيهِ ۚ لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِۦ شَىْءٌ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
fāṭiru s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi ǧaʿala lakum min ˈanfusikum ˈazwāǧan wa-mina l-ˈanʿāmi ˈazwāǧan yaḏraˈukum fīhi laysa ka-miṯlihī šayˈun wa-huwa s-samīʿu l-baṣīru
The originator of the heavens and the earth, He made for you mates from your own selves, and mates of the cattle, by which means He multiplies you. Nothing is like Him, and He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing.
لَهُۥ مَقَالِيدُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
lahū maqālīdu s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi yabsuṭu r-rizqa li-man yašāˈu wa-yaqdiru ˈinnahū bi-kulli šayˈin ʿalīmun
To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth: He expands the provision for whomever He wishes, and tightens it [for whomever He wishes]. Indeed He has knowledge of all things.’
شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا وَصَّىٰ بِهِۦ نُوحًا وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِهِۦٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰٓ ۖ أَنْ أَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَا تَتَفَرَّقُوا۟ فِيهِ ۚ كَبُرَ عَلَى ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ مَا تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَيْهِ ۚ ٱللَّهُ يَجْتَبِىٓ إِلَيْهِ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِىٓ إِلَيْهِ مَن يُنِيبُ
šaraʿa lakum mina d-dīni mā waṣṣā bihī nūḥan wa-llaḏī ˈawḥaynā ˈilayka wa-mā waṣṣaynā bihī ˈibrāhīma wa-mūsā wa-ʿīsā ˈan ˈaqīmū d-dīna wa-lā tatafarraqū fīhi kabura ʿalā l-mušrikīna mā tadʿūhum ˈilayhi llāhu yaǧtabī ˈilayhi man yašāˈu wa-yahdī ˈilayhi man yunību
He has prescribed for you the religion which He had enjoined upon Noah and which We have [also] revealed to you, and which We had enjoined upon Abraham, Moses and Jesus, declaring, ‘Maintain the religion, and do not be divided in it.’ Hard on the polytheists is that to which you summon them. Allah chooses for it whomever He wishes, and He guides to it whomever returns penitently [to Him].
وَمَا تَفَرَّقُوٓا۟ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى لَّقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُورِثُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ
wa-mā tafarraqū ˈillā min baʿdi mā ǧāˈahumu l-ʿilmu baġyan baynahum wa-law-lā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika ˈilā ˈaǧalin musamman la-quḍiya baynahum wa-ˈinna llaḏīna ˈūriṯū l-kitāba min baʿdihim la-fī šakkin minhu murībin
They did not divide [into sects] except after the knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves; and were it not for a prior decree of your Lord [granting them reprieve] until a specified time, decision would have been made between them. Indeed those who were made heirs to the Book after them are in grave doubt concerning it.
فَلِذَٰلِكَ فَٱدْعُ ۖ وَٱسْتَقِمْ كَمَآ أُمِرْتَ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۖ وَقُلْ ءَامَنتُ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن كِتَـٰبٍ ۖ وَأُمِرْتُ لِأَعْدِلَ بَيْنَكُمُ ۖ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ ۖ لَنَآ أَعْمَـٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ ۖ لَا حُجَّةَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمُ ۖ ٱللَّهُ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَنَا ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
fa-li-ḏālika fa-dʿu wa-staqim ka-mā ˈumirta wa-lā tattabiʿ ˈahwāˈahum wa-qul ˈāmantu bi-mā ˈanzala llāhu min kitābin wa-ˈumirtu li-ˈaʿdila baynakumu llāhu rabbunā wa-rabbukum lanā ˈaʿmālunā wa-lakum ˈaʿmālukum lā ḥuǧǧata baynanā wa-baynakumu llāhu yaǧmaʿu baynanā wa-ˈilayhi l-maṣīru
So summon to this [unity of religion], and be steadfast, just as you have been commanded, and do not follow their desires, and say, ‘I believe in whatever Book Allah has sent down. I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. Our deeds belong to us and your deeds belong to you. There is no quarrel between us and you. Allah will bring us together and toward Him is the destination.’
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُحَآجُّونَ فِى ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا ٱسْتُجِيبَ لَهُۥ حُجَّتُهُمْ دَاحِضَةٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ
wa-llaḏīna yuḥāǧǧūna fī llāhi min baʿdi mā stuǧība lahū ḥuǧǧatuhum dāḥiḍatun ʿinda rabbihim wa-ʿalayhim ġaḍabun wa-lahum ʿaḏābun šadīdun-i
Those who argue concerning Allah, after His call has been answered, their argument stands refuted with their Lord, and upon them shall be [His] wrath, and there is a severe punishment for them.
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَٱلْمِيزَانَ ۗ وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَرِيبٌ
allāhu llaḏī ˈanzala l-kitāba bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-l-mīzāna wa-mā yudrīka laʿalla s-sāʿata qarībun
It is Allah who has sent down the Book with the truth and [He has sent down] the Balance. What do you know—maybe the Hour is near!
يَسْتَعْجِلُ بِهَا ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهَا ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مُشْفِقُونَ مِنْهَا وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهَا ٱلْحَقُّ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُمَارُونَ فِى ٱلسَّاعَةِ لَفِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ
yastaʿǧilu bihā llaḏīna lā yuˈminūna bihā wa-llaḏīna ˈāmanū mušfiqūna minhā wa-yaʿlamūna ˈannahā l-ḥaqqu ˈa-lā ˈinna llaḏīna yumārūna fī s-sāʿati la-fī ḍalālin baʿīdin-i
Those who do not believe in it ask [you] to hasten it, but those who have faith are apprehensive of it, and know that it is true. Indeed those who are in doubt about the Hour are in extreme error!
ٱللَّهُ لَطِيفٌۢ بِعِبَادِهِۦ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْقَوِىُّ ٱلْعَزِيزُ
allāhu laṭīfun bi-ʿibādihī yarzuqu man yašāˈu wa-huwa l-qawiyyu l-ʿazīzu
Allah is all-attentive to His servants. He provides for whomever He wishes, and He is the All-strong, the All-mighty.
مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ نَزِدْ لَهُۥ فِى حَرْثِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ حَرْثَ ٱلدُّنْيَا نُؤْتِهِۦ مِنْهَا وَمَا لَهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ مِن نَّصِيبٍ
man kāna yurīdu ḥarṯa l-ˈāḫirati nazid lahū fī ḥarṯihī wa-man kāna yurīdu ḥarṯa d-dunyā nuˈtihī minhā wa-mā lahū fī l-ˈāḫirati min naṣībin
Whoever desires the tillage of the Hereafter, We will enhance for him his tillage, and whoever desires the tillage of the world, We will give it to him, but he will have no share in the Hereafter.
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَـٰٓؤُا۟ شَرَعُوا۟ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱلدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَنۢ بِهِ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةُ ٱلْفَصْلِ لَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
ˈam lahum šurakāˈu šaraʿū lahum mina d-dīni mā lam yaˈḏan bihi llāhu wa-law-lā kalimatu l-faṣli la-quḍiya baynahum wa-ˈinna ẓ-ẓālimīna lahum ʿaḏābun ˈalīmun
Do they have deities [besides Allah] who have ordained for them a religion not permitted by Allah? Were it not for a [prior] conclusive word, judgement would have been made between them, and indeed a painful punishment awaits the wrongdoers.
تَرَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مُشْفِقِينَ مِمَّا كَسَبُوا۟ وَهُوَ وَاقِعٌۢ بِهِمْ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فِى رَوْضَاتِ ٱلْجَنَّاتِ ۖ لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَضْلُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
tarā ẓ-ẓālimīna mušfiqīna mimmā kasabū wa-huwa wāqiʿun bihim wa-llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti fī rawḍāti l-ǧannāti lahum mā yašāˈūna ʿinda rabbihim ḏālika huwa l-faḍlu l-kabīru
When it is about to befall them, You will see the wrongdoers fearful because of what they have earned; but those who have faith and do righteous deeds will be in the gardens of paradise: they will have whatever they wish near their Lord. That is the mighty grace.
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يُبَشِّرُ ٱللَّهُ عِبَادَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ ۗ قُل لَّآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا ٱلْمَوَدَّةَ فِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ ۗ وَمَن يَقْتَرِفْ حَسَنَةً نَّزِدْ لَهُۥ فِيهَا حُسْنًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ
ḏālika llaḏī yubašširu llāhu ʿibādahu llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti qul lā ˈasˈalukum ʿalayhi ˈaǧran ˈillā l-mawaddata fī l-qurbā wa-man yaqtarif ḥasanatan nazid lahū fīhā ḥusnan ˈinna llāha ġafūrun šakūrun
Such is the good news that Allah gives to His servants who have faith and do righteous deeds! Say, ‘I do not ask you any reward for it except the love of [my] relatives.’ Whoever performs a good deed, We shall enhance its goodness for him. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-appreciative.
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا ۖ فَإِن يَشَإِ ٱللَّهُ يَخْتِمْ عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ ۗ وَيَمْحُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ وَيُحِقُّ ٱلْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ
ˈam yaqūlūna ftarā ʿalā llāhi kaḏiban fa-ˈin yašaˈi llāhu yaḫtim ʿalā qalbika wa-yamḥu llāhu l-bāṭila wa-yuḥiqqu l-ḥaqqa bi-kalimātihī ˈinnahū ʿalīmun bi-ḏāti ṣ-ṣudūri
Do they say, ‘He has fabricated a lie against Allah’? If so, should Allah wish He would set a seal on your heart, and Allah will efface the falsehood and confirm the truth with His words. Indeed He knows well what is in the breasts.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يَقْبَلُ ٱلتَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَعْفُوا۟ عَنِ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ
wa-huwa llaḏī yaqbalu t-tawbata ʿan ʿibādihī wa-yaʿfū ʿani s-sayyiˈāti wa-yaʿlamu mā tafʿalūna
It is He who accepts the repentance of His servants, and excuses their misdeeds and knows what you do.
وَيَسْتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَيَزِيدُهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦ ۚ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ
wa-yastaǧību llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti wa-yazīduhum min faḍlihī wa-l-kāfirūna lahum ʿaḏābun šadīdun
He answers [the supplications of] those who have faith and do righteous deeds and enhances them out of His grace. But as for the faithless, there is a severe punishment for them.
وَلَوْ بَسَطَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ لَبَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَـٰكِن يُنَزِّلُ بِقَدَرٍ مَّا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرٌۢ بَصِيرٌ
wa-law basaṭa llāhu r-rizqa li-ʿibādihī la-baġaw fī l-ˈarḍi wa-lākin yunazzilu bi-qadarin mā yašāˈu ˈinnahū bi-ʿibādihī ḫabīrun baṣīrun
Were Allah to expand the provision for [all] His servants, they would surely create havoc on the earth. But He sends down in a [precise] measure whatever He wishes. Indeed, He is all-aware, all-seeing about His servants.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُنَزِّلُ ٱلْغَيْثَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا قَنَطُوا۟ وَيَنشُرُ رَحْمَتَهُۥ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْوَلِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ
wa-huwa llaḏī yunazzilu l-ġayṯa min baʿdi mā qanaṭū wa-yanšuru raḥmatahū wa-huwa l-waliyyu l-ḥamīdu
It is He who sends down the rain after they have been despondent, and unfolds His mercy, and He is the Guardian, the All-laudable.
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ خَلْقُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ ۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ جَمْعِهِمْ إِذَا يَشَآءُ قَدِيرٌ
wa-min ˈāyātihī ḫalqu s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-mā baṯṯa fīhimā min dābbatin wa-huwa ʿalā ǧamʿihim ˈiḏā yašāˈu qadīrun
Among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and whatever creatures He has scattered in them, and He is able to gather them whenever He wishes.
وَمَآ أَصَـٰبَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُوا۟ عَن كَثِيرٍ
wa-mā ˈaṣābakum min muṣībatin fa-bi-mā kasabat ˈaydīkum wa-yaʿfū ʿan kaṯīrin
Whatever affliction that may visit you is because of what your hands have earned, and He excuses many [an offense of yours].
وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ
wa-mā ˈantum bi-muʿǧizīna fī l-ˈarḍi wa-mā lakum min dūni llāhi min waliyyin wa-lā naṣīrin
You cannot frustrate [Allah] on the earth, and you do not have besides Allah any guardian or helper.
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِ ٱلْجَوَارِ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِ
wa-min ˈāyātihi l-ǧawāri fī l-baḥri ka-l-ˈaʿlāmi
Among His signs are the ships [that run] on the sea [appearing] like landmarks.
إِن يَشَأْ يُسْكِنِ ٱلرِّيحَ فَيَظْلَلْنَ رَوَاكِدَ عَلَىٰ ظَهْرِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ
ˈin yašaˈ yuskini r-rīḥa fa-yaẓlalna rawākida ʿalā ẓahrihī ˈinna fī ḏālika la-ˈāyātin li-kulli ṣabbārin šakūrin
If He wishes He stills the wind, whereat they remain standstill on its surface. There are indeed signs in that for every patient and grateful [servant].
أَوْ يُوبِقْهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ وَيَعْفُ عَن كَثِيرٍ
ˈaw yūbiqhunna bi-mā kasabū wa-yaʿfu ʿan kaṯīrin
Or He wrecks them because of what they have earned, and He excuses many [an offense].
وَيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِنَا مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِيصٍ
wa-yaʿlama llaḏīna yuǧādilūna fī ˈāyātinā mā lahum min maḥīṣin
Let those who dispute Our signs know that there is no escape for them.
فَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّن شَىْءٍ فَمَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ
fa-mā ˈūtītum min šayˈin fa-matāʿu l-ḥayāti d-dunyā wa-mā ʿinda llāhi ḫayrun wa-ˈabqā li-llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿalā rabbihim yatawakkalūna
Whatever you have been given are the wares of the life of this world, but what is with Allah is better and more lasting for those who have faith and who put their trust in their Lord
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُوا۟ هُمْ يَغْفِرُونَ
wa-llaḏīna yaǧtanibūna kabāˈira l-ˈiṯmi wa-l-fawāḥiša wa-ˈiḏā mā ġaḍibū hum yaġfirūna
—those who avoid major sins and indecencies, and forgive when angered;
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ شُورَىٰ بَيْنَهُمْ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ
wa-llaḏīna staǧābū li-rabbihim wa-ˈaqāmū ṣ-ṣalāta wa-ˈamruhum šūrā baynahum wa-mimmā razaqnāhum yunfiqūna
those who answer their Lord, maintain the prayer, and [conduct] their affairs by counsel among themselves, and they spend out of what We have provided them;
وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْبَغْىُ هُمْ يَنتَصِرُونَ
wa-llaḏīna ˈiḏā ˈaṣābahumu l-baġyu hum yantaṣirūna
those who, when afflicted by oppression, defend themselves.
وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟ سَيِّئَةٍ سَيِّئَةٌ مِّثْلُهَا ۖ فَمَنْ عَفَا وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَجْرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
wa-ǧazāˈu sayyiˈatin sayyiˈatun miṯluhā fa-man ʿafā wa-ˈaṣlaḥa fa-ˈaǧruhū ʿalā llāhi ˈinnahū lā yuḥibbu ẓ-ẓālimīna
The requital of evil is an evil like it, so whoever excuses and conciliates, his reward lies with Allah. Indeed, He does not like the wrongdoers.
وَلَمَنِ ٱنتَصَرَ بَعْدَ ظُلْمِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَا عَلَيْهِم مِّن سَبِيلٍ
wa-la-mani ntaṣara baʿda ẓulmihī fa-ˈulāˈika mā ʿalayhim min sabīlin
As for those who retaliate after being wronged, there is no ground for action against them.
إِنَّمَا ٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَظْلِمُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَيَبْغُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
ˈinnamā s-sabīlu ʿalā llaḏīna yaẓlimūna n-nāsa wa-yabġūna fī l-ˈarḍi bi-ġayri l-ḥaqqi ˈulāˈika lahum ʿaḏābun ˈalīmun
The ground for action is only against those who oppress the people and commit tyranny in the land in violation of justice. For such there will be a painful punishment.
وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ
wa-la-man ṣabara wa-ġafara ˈinna ḏālika la-min ʿazmi l-ˈumūri
As for someone who endures patiently and forgives—that is indeed the steadiest of courses.
وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن وَلِىٍّ مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ وَتَرَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ لَمَّا رَأَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ يَقُولُونَ هَلْ إِلَىٰ مَرَدٍّ مِّن سَبِيلٍ
wa-man yuḍlili llāhu fa-mā lahū min waliyyin min baʿdihī wa-tarā ẓ-ẓālimīna lammā raˈawu l-ʿaḏāba yaqūlūna hal ˈilā maraddin min sabīlin
Those whom Allah leads astray have no guardian apart from Him. You will see the wrongdoers, when they sight the punishment, saying, ‘Is there any way for a retreat?’
وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيْهَا خَـٰشِعِينَ مِنَ ٱلذُّلِّ يَنظُرُونَ مِن طَرْفٍ خَفِىٍّ ۗ وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ فِى عَذَابٍ مُّقِيمٍ
wa-tarāhum yuʿraḍūna ʿalayhā ḫāšiʿīna mina ḏ-ḏulli yanẓurūna min ṭarfin ḫafiyyin wa-qāla llaḏīna ˈāmanū ˈinna l-ḫāsirīna llaḏīna ḫasirū ˈanfusahum wa-ˈahlīhim yawma l-qiyāmati ˈa-lā ˈinna ẓ-ẓālimīna fī ʿaḏābin muqīmin
You will see them being exposed to it, humbled by abasement, furtively looking askance. The faithful will say, ‘Indeed the losers are those who have ruined themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, the wrongdoers will abide in lasting punishment.
وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنْ أَوْلِيَآءَ يَنصُرُونَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن سَبِيلٍ
wa-mā kāna lahum min ˈawliyāˈa yanṣurūnahum min dūni llāhi wa-man yuḍlili llāhu fa-mā lahū min sabīlin-i
They have no awliya to help them besides Allah. There is no way out for those whom Allah leads astray.’
ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لِرَبِّكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ يَوْمٌ لَّا مَرَدَّ لَهُۥ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ مَا لَكُم مِّن مَّلْجَإٍ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّكِيرٍ
istaǧībū li-rabbikum min qabli ˈan yaˈtiya yawmun lā maradda lahū mina llāhi mā lakum min malǧaˈin yawmaˈiḏin wa-mā lakum min nakīrin
Respond to your Lord before there comes a day for which there will be no revoking from Allah. On that day you will have no refuge, nor will you have [any chance for] denial [of your sins].
فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا۟ فَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا ۖ إِنْ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗ وَإِنَّآ إِذَآ أَذَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً فَرِحَ بِهَا ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ فَإِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ كَفُورٌ
fa-ˈin ˈaʿraḍū fa-mā ˈarsalnāka ʿalayhim ḥafīẓan ˈin ʿalayka ˈillā l-balāġu wa-ˈinnā ˈiḏā ˈaḏaqnā l-ˈinsāna minnā raḥmatan fariḥa bihā wa-ˈin tuṣibhum sayyiˈatun bi-mā qaddamat ˈaydīhim fa-ˈinna l-ˈinsāna kafūrun
But if they disregard [your warnings], [keep in mind that] We have not sent you as their keeper. Your duty is only to communicate. Indeed when We let man taste Our mercy, he boasts about it; but should an ill visit him because of what his hands have sent ahead, then man is very ungrateful.
لِّلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ يَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ إِنَـٰثًا وَيَهَبُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ٱلذُّكُورَ
li-llāhi mulku s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi yaḫluqu mā yašāˈu yahabu li-man yašāˈu ˈināṯan wa-yahabu li-man yašāˈu ḏ-ḏukūra
To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatever He wishes; He gives females to whomever He wishes, and males to whomever He wishes,
أَوْ يُزَوِّجُهُمْ ذُكْرَانًا وَإِنَـٰثًا ۖ وَيَجْعَلُ مَن يَشَآءُ عَقِيمًا ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ
ˈaw yuzawwiǧuhum ḏukrānan wa-ˈināṯan wa-yaǧʿalu man yašāˈu ʿaqīman ˈinnahū ʿalīmun qadīrun
or He combines them males and females, and makes sterile whomever He wishes. Indeed, He is all-knowing, all-powerful.
وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُكَلِّمَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحْيًا أَوْ مِن وَرَآئِ حِجَابٍ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ رَسُولًا فَيُوحِىَ بِإِذْنِهِۦ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِىٌّ حَكِيمٌ
wa-mā kāna li-bašarin ˈan yukallimahu llāhu ˈillā waḥyan ˈaw min warāˈi ḥiǧābin ˈaw yursila rasūlan fa-yūḥiya bi-ˈiḏnihī mā yašāˈu ˈinnahū ʿaliyyun ḥakīmun
It is not [possible] for any human that Allah should speak to him except through revelation or from behind a veil, or send a messenger who reveals by His permission whatever He wishes. Indeed He is all-exalted, all-wise.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ رُوحًا مِّنْ أَمْرِنَا ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِى مَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ وَلَا ٱلْإِيمَـٰنُ وَلَـٰكِن جَعَلْنَـٰهُ نُورًا نَّهْدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهْدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
wa-ka-ḏālika ˈawḥaynā ˈilayka rūḥan min ˈamrinā mā kunta tadrī mā l-kitābu wa-lā l-ˈīmānu wa-lākin ǧaʿalnāhu nūran nahdī bihī man našāˈu min ʿibādinā wa-ˈinnaka la-tahdī ˈilā ṣirāṭin mustaqīmin
Thus have We imbued you with a Spirit of Our command. You did not know what the Book is, nor what is faith; but We made it a light that We may guide by its means whomever We wish of Our servants. Indeed, you guide to a straight path,
صِرَٰطِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ أَلَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَصِيرُ ٱلْأُمُورُ
ṣirāṭi llāhi llaḏī lahū mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi ˈa-lā ˈilā llāhi taṣīru l-ˈumūru
the path of Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Indeed all matters return to Allah!
