Surah Az-Zukhruf

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 43:1

   حمٓ﴿١﴾

   ḥ-m (ḥā mīm)

   Ha, Meem.

2. 43:2

   وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ﴿٢﴾

   wa-l-kitābi l-mubīni

   By the Manifest Book:

3. 43:3

   إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَٰنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ﴿٣﴾

   ˈinnā ǧaʿalnāhu qurˈānan ʿarabiyyan laʿallakum taʿqilūna

   We have made it an Arabic Quran so that you may exercise your reason,

4. 43:4

   وَإِنَّهُۥ فِىٓ أُمِّ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِىٌّ حَكِيمٌ﴿٤﴾

   wa-ˈinnahū fī ˈummi l-kitābi ladaynā la-ʿaliyyun ḥakīmun

   and it is sublime and wise with Us in the Mother Book.

5. 43:5

   أَفَنَضْرِبُ عَنكُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَ صَفْحًا أَن كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّسْرِفِينَ﴿٥﴾

   ˈa-fa-naḍribu ʿankumu ḏ-ḏikra ṣafḥan ˈan kuntum qawman musrifīna

   Shall We keep back the Reminder from you and disregard you because you are an unrestrained lot?

6. 43:6

   وَكَمْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن نَّبِىٍّ فِى ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿٦﴾

   wa-kam ˈarsalnā min nabiyyin fī l-ˈawwalīna

   How many a prophet We have sent to the former peoples!

7. 43:7

   وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن نَّبِىٍّ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ﴿٧﴾

   wa-mā yaˈtīhim min nabiyyin ˈillā kānū bihī yastahziˈūna

   There did not come to them any prophet but that they used to deride him.

8. 43:8

   فَأَهْلَكْنَآ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿٨﴾

   fa-ˈahlaknā ˈašadda minhum baṭšan wa-maḍā maṯalu l-ˈawwalīna

   So We destroyed those who were stronger than these, and the example of the former peoples has already come to pass.

9. 43:9

   وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ خَلَقَهُنَّ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ﴿٩﴾

   wa-la-ˈin saˈaltahum man ḫalaqa s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍa la-yaqūlunna ḫalaqahunna l-ʿazīzu l-ʿalīmu

   If you ask them, ‘Who created the heavens and the earth?’ they will surely say, ‘The All-mighty, the All-knowing created them.’

10. 43:10

    ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ مَهْدًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ﴿١٠﴾

    allaḏī ǧaʿala lakumu l-ˈarḍa mahdan wa-ǧaʿala lakum fīhā subulan laʿallakum tahtadūna

    He, who made the earth a cradle for you, and made for you in it ways so that you may be guided [to your destinations],

11. 43:11

    وَٱلَّذِى نَزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۢ بِقَدَرٍ فَأَنشَرْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَ﴿١١﴾

    wa-llaḏī nazzala mina s-samāˈi māˈan bi-qadarin fa-ˈanšarnā bihī baldatan maytan ka-ḏālika tuḫraǧūna

    and who sent down water from the sky in a measured manner, and We revived with it a dead country. Likewise, you shall be raised [from the dead].

12. 43:12

    وَٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْفُلْكِ وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ مَا تَرْكَبُونَ﴿١٢﴾

    wa-llaḏī ḫalaqa l-ˈazwāǧa kullahā wa-ǧaʿala lakum mina l-fulki wa-l-ˈanʿāmi mā tarkabūna

    He created all the kinds and made for you the ships and the cattle such which you ride,

13. 43:13

    لِتَسْتَوُۥا۟ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِۦ ثُمَّ تَذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ رَبِّكُمْ إِذَا ٱسْتَوَيْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ وَتَقُولُوا۟ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُۥ مُقْرِنِينَ﴿١٣﴾

    li-tastawū ʿalā ẓuhūrihī ṯumma taḏkurū niʿmata rabbikum ˈiḏā stawaytum ʿalayhi wa-taqūlū subḥāna llaḏī saḫḫara lanā hāḏā wa-mā kunnā lahū muqrinīna

    that you may sit on their backs, then remember the blessing of your Lord when you are settled on them, and say, ‘Immaculate is He who has disposed this for us, and we [by ourselves] were no match for it.

14. 43:14

    وَإِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ﴿١٤﴾

    wa-ˈinnā ˈilā rabbinā la-munqalibūna

    Indeed we shall return to our Lord.’

15. 43:15

    وَجَعَلُوا۟ لَهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ جُزْءًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَكَفُورٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿١٥﴾

    wa-ǧaʿalū lahū min ʿibādihī ǧuzˈan ˈinna l-ˈinsāna la-kafūrun mubīnun

    They ascribe to Him offspring from among His servants! Man is indeed a manifest ingrate.

16. 43:16

    أَمِ ٱتَّخَذَ مِمَّا يَخْلُقُ بَنَاتٍ وَأَصْفَىٰكُم بِٱلْبَنِينَ﴿١٦﴾

    ˈami ttaḫaḏa mimmā yaḫluqu banātin wa-ˈaṣfākum bi-l-banīna

    Did He adopt daughters from what He creates while He preferred you with sons?

17. 43:17

    وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مَثَلًا ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ﴿١٧﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā buššira ˈaḥaduhum bi-mā ḍaraba li-r-raḥmāni maṯalan ẓalla waǧhuhū muswaddan wa-huwa kaẓīmun

    When one of them is brought the news of what he ascribes to the All-beneficent, his face becomes darkened and he chokes with suppressed rage, [and says]

18. 43:18

    أَوَمَن يُنَشَّؤُا۟ فِى ٱلْحِلْيَةِ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلْخِصَامِ غَيْرُ مُبِينٍ﴿١٨﴾

    ˈa-wa-man yunaššaˈu fī l-ḥilyati wa-huwa fī l-ḫiṣāmi ġayru mubīnin

    ‘What! One who is brought up amid ornaments and is inconspicuous in contests?’

19. 43:19

    وَجَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عِبَـٰدُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ إِنَـٰثًا ۚ أَشَهِدُوا۟ خَلْقَهُمْ ۚ سَتُكْتَبُ شَهَـٰدَتُهُمْ وَيُسْـَٔلُونَ﴿١٩﴾

    wa-ǧaʿalū l-malāˈikata llaḏīna hum ʿibādu r-raḥmāni ˈināṯan ˈa-šahidū ḫalqahum sa-tuktabu šahādatuhum wa-yusˈalūna

    They have made the angels—who are servants of the All-beneficent—females. Were they witness to their creation? Their testimony will be written down and they shall be questioned.

20. 43:20

    وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنَـٰهُم ۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-qālū law šāˈa r-raḥmānu mā ʿabadnāhum mā lahum bi-ḏālika min ʿilmin ˈin hum ˈillā yaḫruṣūna

    They say, ‘Had the All-beneficent wished, we would not have worshipped them.’ They do not have any knowledge of that, and they do nothing but surmise.

21. 43:21

    أَمْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ كِتَـٰبًا مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ فَهُم بِهِۦ مُسْتَمْسِكُونَ﴿٢١﴾

    ˈam ˈātaynāhum kitāban min qablihī fa-hum bihī mustamsikūna

    Did We give them a Book before this, so that they are holding fast to it?

22. 43:22

    بَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم مُّهْتَدُونَ﴿٢٢﴾

    bal qālū ˈinnā waǧadnā ˈābāˈanā ʿalā ˈummatin wa-ˈinnā ʿalā ˈāṯārihim muhtadūna

    No, they said, ‘We found our fathers following a creed, and we are indeed guided in their footsteps.’

23. 43:23

    وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَآ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم مُّقْتَدُونَ﴿٢٣﴾

    wa-ka-ḏālika mā ˈarsalnā min qablika fī qaryatin min naḏīrin ˈillā qāla mutrafūhā ˈinnā waǧadnā ˈābāˈanā ʿalā ˈummatin wa-ˈinnā ʿalā ˈāṯārihim muqtadūna

    So it has been that We did not send any warner to a town before you, without its affluent ones saying, ‘We found our fathers following a creed and we are indeed following in their footsteps.’

24. 43:24

    قَـٰلَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكُم بِأَهْدَىٰ مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمْ عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَكُمْ ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ﴿٢٤﴾

    qāla ˈa-wa-law ǧiˈtukum bi-ˈahdā mimmā waǧadtum ʿalayhi ˈābāˈakum qālū ˈinnā bi-mā ˈursiltum bihī kāfirūna

    He would say, ‘What! Even if I bring you a better guidance than what you found your fathers following?!’ They would say, ‘We indeed disbelieve in what you are sent with.’

25. 43:25

    فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ ۖ فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٢٥﴾

    fa-ntaqamnā minhum fa-nẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-mukaḏḏibīna

    Thereupon We took vengeance on them; so observe how was the fate of the deniers.

26. 43:26

    وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّنِى بَرَآءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ﴿٢٦﴾

    wa-ˈiḏ qāla ˈibrāhīmu li-ˈabīhi wa-qawmihī ˈinnanī barāˈun mimmā taʿbudūna

    When Abraham said to his father and his people, ‘I repudiate what you worship,

27. 43:27

    إِلَّا ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَنِى فَإِنَّهُۥ سَيَهْدِينِ﴿٢٧﴾

    ˈillā llaḏī faṭaranī fa-ˈinnahū sa-yahdīni

    excepting Him who originated me; indeed He will guide me.’

28. 43:28

    وَجَعَلَهَا كَلِمَةًۢ بَاقِيَةً فِى عَقِبِهِۦ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ﴿٢٨﴾

    wa-ǧaʿalahā kalimatan bāqiyatan fī ʿaqibihī laʿallahum yarǧiʿūna

    He made it a lasting word among his posterity so that they may come back [to the right path].

29. 43:29

    بَلْ مَتَّعْتُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ وَرَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿٢٩﴾

    bal mattaʿtu hāˈulāˈi wa-ˈābāˈahum ḥattā ǧāˈahumu l-ḥaqqu wa-rasūlun mubīnun

    Indeed, I provided for these and their fathers until the truth and a manifest apostle came to them.

30. 43:30

    وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ قَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا سِحْرٌ وَإِنَّا بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ﴿٣٠﴾

    wa-lammā ǧāˈahumu l-ḥaqqu qālū hāḏā siḥrun wa-ˈinnā bihī kāfirūna

    But when the truth came to them, they said, ‘This is magic, and we indeed disbelieve in it.’

31. 43:31

    وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍ مِّنَ ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ﴿٣١﴾

    wa-qālū law-lā nuzzila hāḏā l-qurˈānu ʿalā raǧulin mina l-qaryatayni ʿaẓīmin

    And they said, ‘Why was not this Quran sent down to some great man from the two cities?’

32. 43:32

    أَهُمْ يَقْسِمُونَ رَحْمَتَ رَبِّكَ ۚ نَحْنُ قَسَمْنَا بَيْنَهُم مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ وَرَفَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَـٰتٍ لِّيَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُهُم بَعْضًا سُخْرِيًّا ۗ وَرَحْمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ﴿٣٢﴾

    ˈa-hum yaqsimūna raḥmata rabbika naḥnu qasamnā baynahum maʿīšatahum fī l-ḥayāti d-dunyā wa-rafaʿnā baʿḍahum fawqa baʿḍin daraǧātin li-yattaḫiḏa baʿḍuhum baʿḍan suḫriyyan wa-raḥmatu rabbika ḫayrun mimmā yaǧmaʿūna

    Is it they who dispense the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have dispensed among them their livelihood in the present life, and raised some of them above others in rank, so that some may take others into service, and your Lord’s mercy is better than what they amass.

33. 43:33

    وَلَوْلَآ أَن يَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًا مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ﴿٣٣﴾

    wa-law-lā ˈan yakūna n-nāsu ˈummatan wāḥidatan la-ǧaʿalnā li-man yakfuru bi-r-raḥmāni li-buyūtihim suqufan min fiḍḍatin wa-maʿāriǧa ʿalayhā yaẓharūna

    Were it not [for the danger] that mankind would be one community, We would have made for those who defy the All-beneficent, silver roofs for their houses and [silver] stairways by which they ascend,

34. 43:34

    وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ أَبْوَٰبًا وَسُرُرًا عَلَيْهَا يَتَّكِـُٔونَ﴿٣٤﴾

    wa-li-buyūtihim ˈabwāban wa-sururan ʿalayhā yattakiˈūna

    and [silver] doors for their houses and [silver] couches on which they recline,

35. 43:35

    وَزُخْرُفًا ۚ وَإِن كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَّا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿٣٥﴾

    wa-zuḫrufan wa-ˈin kullu ḏālika lammā matāʿu l-ḥayāti d-dunyā wa-l-ˈāḫiratu ʿinda rabbika li-l-muttaqīna

    and ornaments of gold; yet all that would be nothing but the wares of the life of this world, and the Hereafter is for the Godwary near your Lord.

36. 43:36

    وَمَن يَعْشُ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ نُقَيِّضْ لَهُۥ شَيْطَـٰنًا فَهُوَ لَهُۥ قَرِينٌ﴿٣٦﴾

    wa-man yaʿšu ʿan ḏikri r-raḥmāni nuqayyiḍ lahū šayṭānan fa-huwa lahū qarīnun

    We assign a devil to be the companion of him who turns a blind eye to the remembrance of the All-beneficent.

37. 43:37

    وَإِنَّهُمْ لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ﴿٣٧﴾

    wa-ˈinnahum la-yaṣuddūnahum ʿani s-sabīli wa-yaḥsabūna ˈannahum muhtadūna

    Indeed they bar them from the way [of Allah], while they suppose that they are [rightly] guided.

38. 43:38

    حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَنَا قَالَ يَـٰلَيْتَ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكَ بُعْدَ ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ فَبِئْسَ ٱلْقَرِينُ﴿٣٨﴾

    ḥattā ˈiḏā ǧāˈanā qāla yā-layta baynī wa-baynaka buʿda l-mašriqayni fa-biˈsa l-qarīnu

    When he comes to Us, he will say, ‘I wish there had been between me and you the distance between the east and the west! What an evil companion [you are]!’

39. 43:39

    وَلَن يَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ إِذ ظَّلَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ﴿٣٩﴾

    wa-lan yanfaʿakumu l-yawma ˈiḏ ẓalamtum ˈannakum fī l-ʿaḏābi muštarikūna

    ‘Today that will be of no avail to you. As you did wrong, so will you share in the punishment.’

40. 43:40

    أَفَأَنتَ تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ أَوْ تَهْدِى ٱلْعُمْىَ وَمَن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ﴿٤٠﴾

    ˈa-fa-ˈanta tusmiʿu ṣ-ṣumma ˈaw tahdī l-ʿumya wa-man kāna fī ḍalālin mubīnin

    Can you, then, make the deaf hear or guide the blind and those who are in manifest error?

41. 43:41

    فَإِمَّا نَذْهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنْهُم مُّنتَقِمُونَ﴿٤١﴾

    fa-ˈimmā naḏhabanna bika fa-ˈinnā minhum muntaqimūna

    We will indeed take vengeance on them, whether We take you away

42. 43:42

    أَوْ نُرِيَنَّكَ ٱلَّذِى وَعَدْنَـٰهُمْ فَإِنَّا عَلَيْهِم مُّقْتَدِرُونَ﴿٤٢﴾

    ˈaw nuriyannaka llaḏī waʿadnāhum fa-ˈinnā ʿalayhim muqtadirūna

    or show you what We have promised them, for indeed We hold them in Our power.

43. 43:43

    فَٱسْتَمْسِكْ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ﴿٤٣﴾

    fa-stamsik bi-llaḏī ˈūḥiya ˈilayka ˈinnaka ʿalā ṣirāṭin mustaqīmin

    So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path.

44. 43:44

    وَإِنَّهُۥ لَذِكْرٌ لَّكَ وَلِقَوْمِكَ ۖ وَسَوْفَ تُسْـَٔلُونَ﴿٤٤﴾

    wa-ˈinnahū la-ḏikrun laka wa-li-qawmika wa-sawfa tusˈalūna

    Indeed it is a reminder for you and your people, and soon you will be questioned.

45. 43:45

    وَسْـَٔلْ مَنْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَآ أَجَعَلْنَا مِن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ءَالِهَةً يُعْبَدُونَ﴿٤٥﴾

    wa-sˈal man ˈarsalnā min qablika min rusulinā ˈa-ǧaʿalnā min dūni r-raḥmāni ˈālihatan yuʿbadūna

    Ask those of Our apostles We have sent before you: Did We set up any gods to be worshipped besides the All-beneficent?

46. 43:46

    وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَقَالَ إِنِّى رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿٤٦﴾

    wa-la-qad ˈarsalnā mūsā bi-ˈāyātinā ˈilā firʿawna wa-malaˈihī fa-qāla ˈinnī rasūlu rabbi l-ʿālamīna

    Certainly We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his elite. He said, ‘I am indeed an apostle of the Lord of all the worlds.’

47. 43:47

    فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَضْحَكُونَ﴿٤٧﴾

    fa-lammā ǧāˈahum bi-ˈāyātinā ˈiḏā hum minhā yaḍḥakūna

    But when he brought them Our signs, they indeed laughed at them.

48. 43:48

    وَمَا نُرِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ إِلَّا هِىَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أُخْتِهَا ۖ وَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ﴿٤٨﴾

    wa-mā nurīhim min ˈāyatin ˈillā hiya ˈakbaru min ˈuḫtihā wa-ˈaḫaḏnāhum bi-l-ʿaḏābi laʿallahum yarǧiʿūna

    We did not show them a sign but it was greater than the other, and We visited on them punishment so that they might come back.

49. 43:49

    وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَ ٱلسَّاحِرُ ٱدْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهْتَدُونَ﴿٤٩﴾

    wa-qālū yā-ˈayyuha s-sāḥiru dʿu lanā rabbaka bi-mā ʿahida ʿindaka ˈinnanā la-muhtadūna

    They would say, ‘O magician! Invoke your Lord for us by the covenant He has made with you [to remove this scourge]. We will indeed be guided [when it is removed].’

50. 43:50

    فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ﴿٥٠﴾

    fa-lammā kašafnā ʿanhumu l-ʿaḏāba ˈiḏā hum yankuṯūna

    But when We lifted the punishment from them, behold, they would break their pledge.

51. 43:51

    وَنَادَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى قَوْمِهِۦ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَلَيْسَ لِى مُلْكُ مِصْرَ وَهَـٰذِهِ ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِىٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿٥١﴾

    wa-nādā firʿawnu fī qawmihī qāla yā-qawmi ˈa-laysa lī mulku miṣra wa-hāḏihi l-ˈanhāru taǧrī min taḥtī ˈa-fa-lā tubṣirūna

    And Pharaoh proclaimed to his people, saying, ‘O my people! Do not the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that run at my feet belong to me? Do you not perceive?

52. 43:52

    أَمْ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى هُوَ مَهِينٌ وَلَا يَكَادُ يُبِينُ﴿٥٢﴾

    ˈam ˈana ḫayrun min hāḏā llaḏī huwa mahīnun wa-lā yakādu yubīnu

    Am I not better than this wretch who cannot even speak clearly?

53. 43:53

    فَلَوْلَآ أُلْقِىَ عَلَيْهِ أَسْوِرَةٌ مِّن ذَهَبٍ أَوْ جَآءَ مَعَهُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ مُقْتَرِنِينَ﴿٥٣﴾

    fa-law-lā ˈulqiya ʿalayhi ˈaswiratun min ḏahabin ˈaw ǧāˈa maʿahu l-malāˈikatu muqtarinīna

    Why no bracelets of gold have been thrown to him, nor any angels accompany him as escorts?’

54. 43:54

    فَٱسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَ﴿٥٤﴾

    fa-staḫaffa qawmahū fa-ˈaṭāʿūhu ˈinnahum kānū qawman fāsiqīna

    Thus did he mislead his people and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were a transgressing lot.

55. 43:55

    فَلَمَّآ ءَاسَفُونَا ٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ﴿٥٥﴾

    fa-lammā ˈāsafūnā ntaqamnā minhum fa-ˈaġraqnāhum ˈaǧmaʿīna

    So when they roused Our wrath, We took vengeance on them and drowned them all.

56. 43:56

    فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ سَلَفًا وَمَثَلًا لِّلْـَٔاخِرِينَ﴿٥٦﴾

    fa-ǧaʿalnāhum salafan wa-maṯalan li-l-ˈāḫirīna

    Thus We made them the vanguard and an example for posterity.

57. 43:57

    وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوْمُكَ مِنْهُ يَصِدُّونَ﴿٥٧﴾

    wa-lammā ḍuriba bnu maryama maṯalan ˈiḏā qawmuka minhu yaṣiddūna

    When the Son of Mary was cited as an example, behold, your people raise an outcry.

58. 43:58

    وَقَالُوٓا۟ ءَأَـٰلِهَتُنَا خَيْرٌ أَمْ هُوَ ۚ مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلًۢا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ خَصِمُونَ﴿٥٨﴾

    wa-qālū ˈa-ˈālihatunā ḫayrun ˈam huwa mā ḍarabūhu laka ˈillā ǧadalan bal hum qawmun ḫaṣimūna

    They say, ‘Are our gods better or he?’ They cite him to you only for the sake of contention. Indeed, they are a contentious lot.

59. 43:59

    إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا عَبْدٌ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ مَثَلًا لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ﴿٥٩﴾

    ˈin huwa ˈillā ʿabdun ˈanʿamnā ʿalayhi wa-ǧaʿalnāhu maṯalan li-banī ˈisrāˈīla

    He was just a servant whom We had blessed and made an exemplar for the Children of Israel.

60. 43:60

    وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَا مِنكُم مَّلَـٰٓئِكَةً فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَخْلُفُونَ﴿٦٠﴾

    wa-law našāˈu la-ǧaʿalnā minkum malāˈikatan fī l-ˈarḍi yaḫlufūna

    Had We wished We would have set angels in your stead to be [your] successors on the earth.

61. 43:61

    وَإِنَّهُۥ لَعِلْمٌ لِّلسَّاعَةِ فَلَا تَمْتَرُنَّ بِهَا وَٱتَّبِعُونِ ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ﴿٦١﴾

    wa-ˈinnahū la-ʿilmun li-s-sāʿati fa-lā tamtarunna bihā wa-ttabiʿūni hāḏā ṣirāṭun mustaqīmun

    [Say,] ‘Indeed he is a portent of the Hour; so do not doubt it and follow me. This is a straight path.

62. 43:62

    وَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ﴿٦٢﴾

    wa-lā yaṣuddannakumu š-šayṭānu ˈinnahū lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnun

    Do not let Satan bar you [from the way of Allah]. Indeed he is your manifest enemy.’

63. 43:63

    وَلَمَّا جَآءَ عِيسَىٰ بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ قَالَ قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ وَلِأُبَيِّنَ لَكُم بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى تَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿٦٣﴾

    wa-lammā ǧāˈa ʿīsā bi-l-bayyināti qāla qad ǧiˈtukum bi-l-ḥikmati wa-li-ˈubayyina lakum baʿḍa llaḏī taḫtalifūna fīhi fa-ttaqū llāha wa-ˈaṭīʿūni

    When Jesus brought those manifest proofs, he said, ‘I have certainly brought you wisdom, and [I have come] to make clear to you some of the things that you differ about. So be wary of Allah and obey me.

64. 43:64

    إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ رَبِّى وَرَبُّكُمْ فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ﴿٦٤﴾

    ˈinna llāha huwa rabbī wa-rabbukum fa-ʿbudūhu hāḏā ṣirāṭun mustaqīmun

    Indeed Allah is my Lord and your Lord; so worship Him. This is a straight path.’

65. 43:65

    فَٱخْتَلَفَ ٱلْأَحْزَابُ مِنۢ بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمٍ أَلِيمٍ﴿٦٥﴾

    fa-ḫtalafa l-ˈaḥzābu min baynihim fa-waylun li-llaḏīna ẓalamū min ʿaḏābi yawmin ˈalīmin

    But the factions differed among themselves. So woe to the wrongdoers for the punishment of a painful day.

66. 43:66

    هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ﴿٦٦﴾

    hal yanẓurūna ˈillā s-sāʿata ˈan taˈtiyahum baġtatan wa-hum lā yašʿurūna

    Do they not consider that the Hour may overtake them suddenly while they are unaware?

67. 43:67

    ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿٦٧﴾

    al-ˈaḫillāˈu yawmaˈiḏin baʿḍuhum li-baʿḍin ʿaduwwun ˈillā l-muttaqīna

    On that day, friends will be one another’s enemies, except for the Godwary.

68. 43:68

    يَـٰعِبَادِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ وَلَآ أَنتُمْ تَحْزَنُونَ﴿٦٨﴾

    yā-ʿibādi lā ḫawfun ʿalaykumu l-yawma wa-lā ˈantum taḥzanūna

    [They will be told,] ‘O My servants! Today you will have no fear, nor will you grieve

69. 43:69

    ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ﴿٦٩﴾

    allaḏīna ˈāmanū bi-ˈāyātinā wa-kānū muslimīna

    —those who believed in Our signs and had been Muslims.

70. 43:70

    ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ أَنتُمْ وَأَزْوَٰجُكُمْ تُحْبَرُونَ﴿٧٠﴾

    udḫulū l-ǧannata ˈantum wa-ˈazwāǧukum tuḥbarūna

    Enter paradise, you and your spouses, rejoicing.’

71. 43:71

    يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِصِحَافٍ مِّن ذَهَبٍ وَأَكْوَابٍ ۖ وَفِيهَا مَا تَشْتَهِيهِ ٱلْأَنفُسُ وَتَلَذُّ ٱلْأَعْيُنُ ۖ وَأَنتُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ﴿٧١﴾

    yuṭāfu ʿalayhim bi-ṣiḥāfin min ḏahabin wa-ˈakwābin wa-fīhā mā taštahīhi l-ˈanfusu wa-talaḏḏu l-ˈaʿyunu wa-ˈantum fīhā ḫālidūna

    They will be served around with golden dishes and goblets, and therein will be whatever the souls desire and eyes delight in. ‘You will remain in it [forever].

72. 43:72

    وَتِلْكَ ٱلْجَنَّةُ ٱلَّتِىٓ أُورِثْتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿٧٢﴾

    wa-tilka l-ǧannatu llatī ˈūriṯtumūhā bi-mā kuntum taʿmalūna

    That is the paradise you have been given to inherit for what you used to do.

73. 43:73

    لَكُمْ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ مِّنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ﴿٧٣﴾

    lakum fīhā fākihatun kaṯīratun minhā taˈkulūna

    There are abundant fruits for you in it, from which you will eat.’

74. 43:74

    إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ﴿٧٤﴾

    ˈinna l-muǧrimīna fī ʿaḏābi ǧahannama ḫālidūna

    Indeed the guilty will remain [forever] in the punishment of hell.

75. 43:75

    لَا يُفَتَّرُ عَنْهُمْ وَهُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ﴿٧٥﴾

    lā yufattaru ʿanhum wa-hum fīhi mublisūna

    It will not be lightened for them, and they will be despondent in it.

76. 43:76

    وَمَا ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ﴿٧٦﴾

    wa-mā ẓalamnāhum wa-lākin kānū humu ẓ-ẓālimīna

    We did not wrong them, but they themselves were wrongdoers.

77. 43:77

    وَنَادَوْا۟ يَـٰمَـٰلِكُ لِيَقْضِ عَلَيْنَا رَبُّكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنَّكُم مَّـٰكِثُونَ﴿٧٧﴾

    wa-nādaw yā-māliku li-yaqḍi ʿalaynā rabbuka qāla ˈinnakum mākiṯūna

    They will call out, ‘O Malik! Let your Lord finish us off!’ He will say, ‘Indeed you will stay on.’

78. 43:78

    لَقَدْ جِئْنَـٰكُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَكُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ﴿٧٨﴾

    la-qad ǧiˈnākum bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-lākinna ˈakṯarakum li-l-ḥaqqi kārihūna

    ‘We certainly brought you the truth, but most of you were averse to the truth.’

79. 43:79

    أَمْ أَبْرَمُوٓا۟ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّا مُبْرِمُونَ﴿٧٩﴾

    ˈam ˈabramū ˈamran fa-ˈinnā mubrimūna

    Have they settled on some [devious] plan? Indeed, We too are settling [on Our plans].

80. 43:80

    أَمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّا لَا نَسْمَعُ سِرَّهُمْ وَنَجْوَىٰهُم ۚ بَلَىٰ وَرُسُلُنَا لَدَيْهِمْ يَكْتُبُونَ﴿٨٠﴾

    ˈam yaḥsabūna ˈannā lā nasmaʿu sirrahum wa-naǧwāhum balā wa-rusulunā ladayhim yaktubūna

    Do they suppose that We do not hear their secret thoughts and their secret talks? Yes indeed [We do]! And with them are Our messengers, writing down [everything].

81. 43:81

    قُلْ إِن كَانَ لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ وَلَدٌ فَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلْعَـٰبِدِينَ﴿٨١﴾

    qul ˈin kāna li-r-raḥmāni waladun fa-ˈana ˈawwalu l-ʿābidīna

    Say, ‘If the All-beneficent had offspring, I would have been the first to worship [him].’

82. 43:82

    سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ﴿٨٢﴾

    subḥāna rabbi s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi rabbi l-ʿarši ʿammā yaṣifūna

    Clear is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne, of whatever they allege [concerning Him]!

83. 43:83

    فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا۟ وَيَلْعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ﴿٨٣﴾

    fa-ḏarhum yaḫūḍū wa-yalʿabū ḥattā yulāqū yawmahumu llaḏī yūʿadūna

    So leave them to gossip and play until they encounter the day they are promised.

84. 43:84

    وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِلَـٰهٌ وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَـٰهٌ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ﴿٨٤﴾

    wa-huwa llaḏī fī s-samāˈi ˈilāhun wa-fī l-ˈarḍi ˈilāhun wa-huwa l-ḥakīmu l-ʿalīmu

    It is He who is God in the sky, and God on the earth, and He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.

85. 43:85

    وَتَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَعِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ﴿٨٥﴾

    wa-tabāraka llaḏī lahū mulku s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-mā baynahumā wa-ʿindahū ʿilmu s-sāʿati wa-ˈilayhi turǧaʿūna

    Blessed is He to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and with Him is the knowledge of the Hour, and to Him you will be brought back.

86. 43:86

    وَلَا يَمْلِكُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَ إِلَّا مَن شَهِدَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ﴿٨٦﴾

    wa-lā yamliku llaḏīna yadʿūna min dūnihi š-šafāʿata ˈillā man šahida bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-hum yaʿlamūna

    Those whom they invoke besides Him have no power of intercession, except those who are witness to the truth and who know [for whom to intercede].

87. 43:87

    وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَهُمْ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ﴿٨٧﴾

    wa-la-ˈin saˈaltahum man ḫalaqahum la-yaqūlunna llāhu fa-ˈannā yuˈfakūna

    If you ask them, ‘Who created them?’ they will surely say, ‘Allah.’ Then where do they stray?

88. 43:88

    وَقِيلِهِۦ يَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿٨٨﴾

    wa-qīlihī yā-rabbi ˈinna hāˈulāˈi qawmun lā yuˈminūna

    And his plaint: ‘My Lord! Indeed these are a people who will not have faith!’

89. 43:89

    فَٱصْفَحْ عَنْهُمْ وَقُلْ سَلَـٰمٌ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ﴿٨٩﴾

    fa-ṣfaḥ ʿanhum wa-qul salāmun fa-sawfa yaʿlamūna

    So disregard them, and say, ‘Peace!’ Soon they will know.
