Surah Al-Jaathiya

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 45:1

   حمٓ﴿١﴾

   ḥ-m (ḥā mīm)

   Ha, Meem.

2. 45:2

   تَنزِيلُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ﴿٢﴾

   tanzīlu l-kitābi mina llāhi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥakīmi

   The [gradual] sending down of the Book is from Allah, the All-mighty, All-wise.

3. 45:3

   إِنَّ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٣﴾

   ˈinna fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi la-ˈāyātin li-l-muˈminīna

   In the heavens and the earth there are indeed signs for the faithful,

4. 45:4

   وَفِى خَلْقِكُمْ وَمَا يَبُثُّ مِن دَآبَّةٍ ءَايَـٰتٌ لِّقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ﴿٤﴾

   wa-fī ḫalqikum wa-mā yabuṯṯu min dābbatin ˈāyātun li-qawmin yūqinūna

   There are signs for people who have certainty in your own creation and in animals, He scatters abroad.

5. 45:5

   وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن رِّزْقٍ فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا وَتَصْرِيفِ ٱلرِّيَـٰحِ ءَايَـٰتٌ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ﴿٥﴾

   wa-ḫtilāfi l-layli wa-n-nahāri wa-mā ˈanzala llāhu mina s-samāˈi min rizqin fa-ˈaḥyā bihi l-ˈarḍa baʿda mawtihā wa-taṣrīfi r-riyāḥi ˈāyātun li-qawmin yaʿqilūna

   There are signs for people who exercise their reason in the alternation of night and day, in the provision that Allah sends down from the sky, with which He revives the earth after its death, and in the changing of the winds.

6. 45:6

   تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ وَءَايَـٰتِهِۦ يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿٦﴾

   tilka ˈāyātu llāhi natlūhā ʿalayka bi-l-ḥaqqi fa-bi-ˈayyi ḥadīṯin baʿda llāhi wa-ˈāyātihī yuˈminūna

   These are the signs of Allah that We recite for you in truth. So what discourse will they believe after Allah and His signs?

7. 45:7

   وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍ﴿٧﴾

   waylun li-kulli ˈaffākin ˈaṯīmin

   Woe to every sinful liar,

8. 45:8

   يَسْمَعُ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُصِرُّ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ﴿٨﴾

   yasmaʿu ˈāyāti llāhi tutlā ʿalayhi ṯumma yuṣirru mustakbiran ka-ˈan lam yasmaʿhā fa-bašširhu bi-ʿaḏābin ˈalīmin

   who hears the signs of Allah being recited to him, yet persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So inform him of a painful punishment.

9. 45:9

   وَإِذَا عَلِمَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا شَيْـًٔا ٱتَّخَذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ﴿٩﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā ʿalima min ˈāyātinā šayˈan-i ttaḫaḏahā huzuwan ˈulāˈika lahum ʿaḏābun muhīnun

   Should he learn anything about Our signs, he takes them in derision. For such there is a humiliating punishment.

10. 45:10

    مِّن وَرَآئِهِمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَلَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُم مَّا كَسَبُوا۟ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا مَا ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ﴿١٠﴾

    min warāˈihim ǧahannamu wa-lā yuġnī ʿanhum mā kasabū šayˈan wa-lā mā ttaḫaḏū min dūni llāhi ˈawliyāˈa wa-lahum ʿaḏābun ʿaẓīmun

    Ahead of them is hell, and neither what they have earned, nor what they had taken as guardians besides Allah will avail them in any way, and there is a great punishment for them.

11. 45:11

    هَـٰذَا هُدًى ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مِّن رِّجْزٍ أَلِيمٌ﴿١١﴾

    hāḏā hudan wa-llaḏīna kafarū bi-ˈāyāti rabbihim lahum ʿaḏābun min riǧzin ˈalīmun-i

    This is [true] guidance, and there is a painful punishment due to defilement for those who defy the signs of their Lord.

12. 45:12

    ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلْبَحْرَ لِتَجْرِىَ ٱلْفُلْكُ فِيهِ بِأَمْرِهِۦ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ﴿١٢﴾

    allāhu llaḏī saḫḫara lakumu l-baḥra li-taǧriya l-fulku fīhi bi-ˈamrihī wa-li tabtaġū min faḍlihī wa-laʿallakum taškurūna

    It is Allah who disposed the sea for you[r benefit] so that the ships may sail in it by His command, that you may seek of His bounty and that you may give thanks.

13. 45:13

    وَسَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا مِّنْهُ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ﴿١٣﴾

    wa-saḫḫara lakum mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi ǧamīʿan minhu ˈinna fī ḏālika la-ˈāyātin li-qawmin yatafakkarūna

    He has disposed for you[r benefit] whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth; all is from Him. There are indeed signs in that for a people who reflect.

14. 45:14

    قُل لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَغْفِرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ أَيَّامَ ٱللَّهِ لِيَجْزِىَ قَوْمًۢا بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ﴿١٤﴾

    qul li-llaḏīna ˈāmanū yaġfirū li-llaḏīna lā yarǧūna ˈayyāma llāhi li-yaǧziya qawman bi-mā kānū yaksibūna

    Say to the faithful to forgive those who do not expect Allah’s days, that He may [Himself] requite every people for what they used to earn.

15. 45:15

    مَنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَنْ أَسَآءَ فَعَلَيْهَا ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ تُرْجَعُونَ﴿١٥﴾

    man ʿamila ṣāliḥan fa-li-nafsihī wa-man ˈasāˈa fa-ʿalayhā ṯumma ˈilā rabbikum turǧaʿūna

    Whoever acts righteously, it is for his own soul, and whoever does evil, it is to its own detriment, then you will be brought back to your Lord.

16. 45:16

    وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحُكْمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَرَزَقْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَفَضَّلْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿١٦﴾

    wa-la-qad ˈātaynā banī ˈisrāˈīla l-kitāba wa-l-ḥukma wa-n-nubuwwata wa-razaqnāhum mina ṭ-ṭayyibāti wa-faḍḍalnāhum ʿalā l-ʿālamīna

    Certainly We gave the Children of Israel the Book, judgement and prophethood and We provided them with all the good things. We gave them an advantage over all the nations,

17. 45:17

    وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم بَيِّنَـٰتٍ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ فَمَا ٱخْتَلَفُوٓا۟ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقْضِى بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ﴿١٧﴾

    wa-ˈātaynāhum bayyinātin mina l-ˈamri fa-mā ḫtalafū ˈillā min baʿdi mā ǧāˈahumu l-ʿilmu baġyan baynahum ˈinna rabbaka yaqḍī baynahum yawma l-qiyāmati fī-mā kānū fīhi yaḫtalifūna

    and We gave them manifest precepts. But they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves. Indeed your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that about which they used to differ.

18. 45:18

    ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَىٰ شَرِيعَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ فَٱتَّبِعْهَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَآءَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿١٨﴾

    ṯumma ǧaʿalnāka ʿalā šarīʿatin mina l-ˈamri fa-ttabiʿhā wa-lā tattabiʿ ˈahwāˈa llaḏīna lā yaʿlamūna

    Then We set you upon a clear course of the Law; so follow it, and do not follow the desires of those who do not know.

19. 45:19

    إِنَّهُمْ لَن يُغْنُوا۟ عَنكَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ وَلِىُّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿١٩﴾

    ˈinnahum lan yuġnū ʿanka mina llāhi šayˈan wa-ˈinna ẓ-ẓālimīna baʿḍuhum ˈawliyāˈu baʿḍin wa-llāhu waliyyu l-muttaqīna

    Indeed they will not avail you in any way against Allah. Indeed the wrongdoers are allies of one another, but Allah is the ally of the Godwary.

20. 45:20

    هَـٰذَا بَصَـٰٓئِرُ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ﴿٢٠﴾

    hāḏā baṣāˈiru li-n-nāsi wa-hudan wa-raḥmatun li-qawmin yūqinūna

    These are eye-openers for mankind, and guidance and mercy for a people who have certainty.

21. 45:21

    أَمْ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱجْتَرَحُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن نَّجْعَلَهُمْ كَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَوَآءً مَّحْيَاهُمْ وَمَمَاتُهُمْ ۚ سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ﴿٢١﴾

    ˈam ḥasiba llaḏīna ǧtaraḥū s-sayyiˈāti ˈan naǧʿalahum ka-llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti sawāˈan maḥyāhum wa-mamātuhum sāˈa mā yaḥkumūna

    Do those who have perpetrated misdeeds suppose that We shall treat them like those who have faith and do righteous deeds, their life and death being equal? Evil is the judgement that they make!

22. 45:22

    وَخَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلِتُجْزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ﴿٢٢﴾

    wa-ḫalaqa llāhu s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍa bi-l-ḥaqqi wa-li-tuǧzā kullu nafsin bi-mā kasabat wa-hum lā yuẓlamūna

    Allah created the heavens and the earth with consummate wisdom, so that every soul may be requited for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.

23. 45:23

    أَفَرَءَيْتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَـٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ وَأَضَلَّهُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ سَمْعِهِۦ وَقَلْبِهِۦ وَجَعَلَ عَلَىٰ بَصَرِهِۦ غِشَـٰوَةً فَمَن يَهْدِيهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ﴿٢٣﴾

    ˈa-fa-raˈayta mani ttaḫaḏa ˈilāhahū hawāhu wa-ˈaḍallahu llāhu ʿalā ʿilmin wa-ḫatama ʿalā samʿihī wa-qalbihī wa-ǧaʿala ʿalā baṣarihī ġišāwatan fa-man yahdīhi min baʿdi llāhi ˈa-fa-lā taḏakkarūna

    Have you seen him who has taken his desire to be his god and whom Allah has led astray knowingly, set a seal upon his hearing and heart, and put a blindfold on his sight? So who will guide him after Allah [has consigned him to error]? Will you not then take admonition?

24. 45:24

    وَقَالُوا۟ مَا هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا يُهْلِكُنَآ إِلَّا ٱلدَّهْرُ ۚ وَمَا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَظُنُّونَ﴿٢٤﴾

    wa-qālū mā hiya ˈillā ḥayātunā d-dunyā namūtu wa-naḥyā wa-mā yuhlikunā ˈillā d-dahru wa-mā lahum bi-ḏālika min ʿilmin ˈin hum ˈillā yaẓunnūna

    They say, ‘There is nothing but the life of this world: we live and we die, and nothing but time destroys us.’ But they do not have any knowledge of that, and they only make conjectures.

25. 45:25

    وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُنَا بَيِّنَـٰتٍ مَّا كَانَ حُجَّتَهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ ٱئْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ﴿٢٥﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā tutlā ʿalayhim ˈāyātunā bayyinātin mā kāna ḥuǧǧatahum ˈillā ˈan qālū ˈtū bi-ˈābāˈinā ˈin kuntum ṣādiqīna

    When Our manifest signs are recited to them, their only argument is to say, ‘Bring our fathers back [to life], if you are truthful.’

26. 45:26

    قُلِ ٱللَّهُ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يَجْمَعُكُمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿٢٦﴾

    quli llāhu yuḥyīkum ṯumma yumītukum ṯumma yaǧmaʿukum ˈilā yawmi l-qiyāmati lā rayba fīhi wa-lākinna ˈakṯara n-nāsi lā yaʿlamūna

    Say, ‘It is Allah who gives you life, then He makes you die. Then He will gather you on the Day of Resurrection, in which there is no doubt. But most people do not know.’

27. 45:27

    وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَخْسَرُ ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ﴿٢٧﴾

    wa-li-llāhi mulku s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-yawma taqūmu s-sāʿatu yawmaˈiḏin yaḫsaru l-mubṭilūna

    To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and when the Hour sets in, the falsifiers will be losers on that day.

28. 45:28

    وَتَرَىٰ كُلَّ أُمَّةٍ جَاثِيَةً ۚ كُلُّ أُمَّةٍ تُدْعَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ كِتَـٰبِهَا ٱلْيَوْمَ تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿٢٨﴾

    wa-tarā kulla ˈummatin ǧāṯiyatan kullu ˈummatin tudʿā ˈilā kitābihā l-yawma tuǧzawna mā kuntum taʿmalūna

    And you will see every nation fallen on its knees. Every nation will be summoned to its book: ‘Today you will be requited for what you used to do.

29. 45:29

    هَـٰذَا كِتَـٰبُنَا يَنطِقُ عَلَيْكُم بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا نَسْتَنسِخُ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿٢٩﴾

    hāḏā kitābunā yanṭiqu ʿalaykum bi-l-ḥaqqi ˈinnā kunnā nastansiḫu mā kuntum taʿmalūna

    This is Our book, which speaks truly against you. Indeed We used to record what you used to do.’

30. 45:30

    فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَيُدْخِلُهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْمُبِينُ﴿٣٠﴾

    fa-ˈammā llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti fa-yudḫiluhum rabbuhum fī raḥmatihī ḏālika huwa l-fawzu l-mubīnu

    As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. That is the manifest success!

31. 45:31

    وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَفَلَمْ تَكُنْ ءَايَـٰتِى تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ وَكُنتُمْ قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ﴿٣١﴾

    wa-ˈammā llaḏīna kafarū ˈa-fa-lam takun ˈāyātī tutlā ʿalaykum fa-stakbartum wa-kuntum qawman muǧrimīna

    But as for the faithless, [they will be asked,] ‘Were not My signs recited to you? But you were disdainful, and you were a guilty lot.

32. 45:32

    وَإِذَا قِيلَ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا قُلْتُم مَّا نَدْرِى مَا ٱلسَّاعَةُ إِن نَّظُنُّ إِلَّا ظَنًّا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُسْتَيْقِنِينَ﴿٣٢﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā qīla ˈinna waʿda llāhi ḥaqqun wa-s-sāʿatu lā rayba fīhā qultum mā nadrī mā s-sāʿatu ˈin naẓunnu ˈillā ẓannan wa-mā naḥnu bi-mustayqinīna

    When it was said, ‘‘Allah’s promise is indeed true, and there is no doubt about the Hour,’’ you said, ‘‘We do not know what the Hour is. We know nothing beyond conjectures, and we do not possess any certainty.’’ ’

33. 45:33

    وَبَدَا لَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ﴿٣٣﴾

    wa-badā lahum sayyiˈātu mā ʿamilū wa-ḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihī yastahziˈūna

    The evils of what they had done will appear to them, and they will be besieged by what they used to deride.

34. 45:34

    وَقِيلَ ٱلْيَوْمَ نَنسَىٰكُمْ كَمَا نَسِيتُمْ لِقَآءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَـٰذَا وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ﴿٣٤﴾

    wa-qīla l-yawma nansākum ka-mā nasītum liqāˈa yawmikum hāḏā wa-maˈwākumu n-nāru wa-mā lakum min nāṣirīna

    And it will be said, ‘Today We will forget you, just as you forgot the encounter of this day of yours. The Fire will be your abode, and you will not have any helpers.

35. 45:35

    ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّكُمُ ٱتَّخَذْتُمْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ هُزُوًا وَغَرَّتْكُمُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ فَٱلْيَوْمَ لَا يُخْرَجُونَ مِنْهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ﴿٣٥﴾

    ḏālikum bi-ˈannakumu ttaḫaḏtum ˈāyāti llāhi huzuwan wa-ġarratkumu l-ḥayātu d-dunyā fa-l-yawma lā yuḫraǧūna minhā wa-lā hum yustaʿtabūna

    That is because you took the signs of Allah in derision, and the life of the world had deceived you.’ So today, they will not be brought out of it, nor will they be asked to propitiate [Allah].

36. 45:36

    فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْحَمْدُ رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَرَبِّ ٱلْأَرْضِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿٣٦﴾

    fa-li-llāhi l-ḥamdu rabbi s-samāwāti wa-rabbi l-ˈarḍi rabbi l-ʿālamīna

    So all praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth, the Lord of all the worlds.

37. 45:37

    وَلَهُ ٱلْكِبْرِيَآءُ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ﴿٣٧﴾

    wa-lahu l-kibriyāˈu fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-huwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīmu

    To Him belongs all supremacy in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.
