Surah Al-Haaqqa

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 69:1

   ٱلْحَآقَّةُ﴿١﴾

   al-ḥāqqatu

   The Besieger!

2. 69:2

   مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ﴿٢﴾

   mā l-ḥāqqatu

   What is the Besieger?!

3. 69:3

   وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ﴿٣﴾

   wa-mā ˈadrāka mā l-ḥāqqatu

   What will show you what is the Besieger?!

4. 69:4

   كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ﴿٤﴾

   kaḏḏabat ṯamūdu wa-ʿādun bi-l-qāriʿati

   Thamudand ‘Ad denied the Cataclysm.

5. 69:5

   فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ﴿٥﴾

   fa-ˈammā ṯamūdu fa-ˈuhlikū bi-ṭ-ṭāġiyati

   As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the Cry.

6. 69:6

   وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ﴿٦﴾

   wa-ˈammā ʿādun fa-ˈuhlikū bi-rīḥin ṣarṣarin ʿātiyatin

   And as for ‘Ad, they were destroyed by a fierce icy gale,

7. 69:7

   سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ﴿٧﴾

   saḫḫarahā ʿalayhim sabʿa layālin wa-ṯamāniyata ˈayyāmin ḥusūman fa-tarā l-qawma fīhā ṣarʿā ka-ˈannahum ˈaʿǧāzu naḫlin ḫāwiyatin

   which He clamped on them for seven gruelling nights and eight days, so that you could see the people there lying about prostrate as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

8. 69:8

   فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍ﴿٨﴾

   fa-hal tarā lahum min bāqiyatin

   So do you see any remaining trace of them?

9. 69:9

   وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ﴿٩﴾

   wa-ǧāˈa firˈawnu wa-man qablahū wa-l-muˈtafikātu bi-l-ḫāṭiˈati

   Then Pharaoh and those who were before him, and the towns that were overturned, brought about iniquity.

10. 69:10

    فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً﴿١٠﴾

    fa-ʿaṣaw rasūla rabbihim fa-ˈaḫaḏahum ˈaḫḏatan rābiyatan

    They disobeyed the apostle of their Lord, so He seized them with a terrible seizing.

11. 69:11

    إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ﴿١١﴾

    ˈinnā lammā ṭaġā l-māˈu ḥamalnākum fī l-ǧāriyati

    Indeed when the Flood rose high, We carried you in a floating ark,

12. 69:12

    لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ﴿١٢﴾

    li-naǧʿalahā lakum taḏkiratan wa-taʿiyahā ˈuḏunun wāʿiyatun

    that We might make it a reminder for you, and that receptive ears might remember it.

13. 69:13

    فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ﴿١٣﴾

    fa-ˈiḏā nufiḫa fī ṣ-ṣūri nafḫatun wāḥidatun

    When the Trumpet is blown with a single blast

14. 69:14

    وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَٰحِدَةً﴿١٤﴾

    wa-ḥumilati l-ˈarḍu wa-l-ǧibālu fa-dukkatā dakkatan wāḥidatan

    and the earth and the mountains are lifted and levelled with a single levelling,

15. 69:15

    فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ﴿١٥﴾

    fa-yawmaˈiḏin waqaʿati l-wāqiʿatu

    then, on that day, will the Imminent [Hour] befall

16. 69:16

    وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ﴿١٦﴾

    wa-nšaqqati s-samāˈu fa-hiya yawmaˈiḏin wāhiyatun

    and the sky will be split open—for it will be frail on that day—

17. 69:17

    وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ﴿١٧﴾

    wa-l-malaku ʿalā ˈarǧāˈihā wa-yaḥmilu ʿarša rabbika fawqahum yawmaˈiḏin ṯamāniyatun

    with the angels all over it, and the Throne of your Lord will be borne that day by eight [angels].

18. 69:18

    يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ﴿١٨﴾

    yawmaˈiḏin tuʿraḍūna lā taḫfā minkum ḫāfiyatun

    That day you will be presented [before your Lord]: none of your secrets will remain hidden.

19. 69:19

    فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ﴿١٩﴾

    fa-ˈammā man ˈūtiya kitābahū bi-yamīnihī fa-yaqūlu hāˈumu qraˈū kitābiyah

    As for him who is given his book in his right hand, he will say, ‘Here, take and read my book!

20. 69:20

    إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَـٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ﴿٢٠﴾

    ˈinnī ẓanantu ˈannī mulāqin ḥisābiyah

    Indeed I knew that I will encounter my account [of deeds].’

21. 69:21

    فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ﴿٢١﴾

    fa-huwa fī ʿīšatin rāḍiyatin

    So he will have a pleasant life,

22. 69:22

    فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ﴿٢٢﴾

    fī ǧannatin ʿāliyatin

    in an elevated garden,

23. 69:23

    قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ﴿٢٣﴾

    quṭūfuhā dāniyatun

    whose clusters [of fruits] will be within easy reach.

24. 69:24

    كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ﴿٢٤﴾

    kulū wa-šrabū hanīˈan bi-mā ˈaslaftum fī l-ˈayyāmi l-ḫāliyati

    [He will be told]: ‘Enjoy your food and drink, for what you had sent in advance in past days [for your future life].’

25. 69:25

    وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ﴿٢٥﴾

    wa-ˈammā man ˈūtiya kitābahū bi-šimālihī fa-yaqūlu yā-laytanī lam ˈūta kitābiyah

    But as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he will say, ‘I wish I had not been given my book,

26. 69:26

    وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ﴿٢٦﴾

    wa-lam ˈadri mā ḥisābiyah

    nor had I ever known what my account is!

27. 69:27

    يَـٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ﴿٢٧﴾

    yā-laytahā kānati l-qāḍiyata

    I wish death had been the end of it all!

28. 69:28

    مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ﴿٢٨﴾

    mā ˈaġnā ʿannī māliyah

    My wealth did not avail me.

29. 69:29

    هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ﴿٢٩﴾

    halaka ʿannī sulṭāniyah

    My authority has left me.’

30. 69:30

    خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ﴿٣٠﴾

    ḫuḏūhu fa-ġullūhu

    [The angels will be told:] ‘Seize him, and fetter him!

31. 69:31

    ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ﴿٣١﴾

    ṯumma l-ǧaḥīma ṣallūhu

    Then put him into hell.

32. 69:32

    ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ﴿٣٢﴾

    ṯumma fī silsilatin ḏarʿuhā sabʿūna ḏirāʿan fa-slukūhu

    Then bind him in a chain, seventy cubits in length.

33. 69:33

    إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٣٣﴾

    ˈinnahū kāna lā yuˈminu bi-llāhi l-ʿaẓīmi

    Indeed he had no faith in Allah, the All-supreme,

34. 69:34

    وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ﴿٣٤﴾

    wa-lā yaḥuḍḍu ʿalā ṭaʿāmi l-miskīni

    and he did not urge the feeding of the needy,

35. 69:35

    فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَـٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ﴿٣٥﴾

    fa-laysa lahu l-yawma hāhunā ḥamīmun

    so he has no friend here today,

36. 69:36

    وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ﴿٣٦﴾

    wa-lā ṭaʿāmun ˈillā min ġislīnin

    nor any food except pus,

37. 69:37

    لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ﴿٣٧﴾

    lā yaˈkuluhū ˈillā l-ḫāṭiˈūna

    which no one shall eat except the iniquitous.’

38. 69:38

    فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿٣٨﴾

    fa-lā ˈuqsimu bi-mā tubṣirūna

    I swear by what you see

39. 69:39

    وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿٣٩﴾

    wa-mā lā tubṣirūna

    and what you do not see:

40. 69:40

    إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ﴿٤٠﴾

    ˈinnahū la-qawlu rasūlin karīmin

    it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle

41. 69:41

    وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ﴿٤١﴾

    wa-mā huwa bi-qawli šāʿirin qalīlan mā tuˈminūna

    and it is not the speech of a poet. Little is the faith that you have!

42. 69:42

    وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ﴿٤٢﴾

    wa-lā bi-qawli kāhinin qalīlan mā taḏakkarūna

    Nor is it the speech of a soothsayer. Little is the admonition that you take!

43. 69:43

    تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿٤٣﴾

    tanzīlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīna

    Gradually sent down from the Lord of all the worlds.

44. 69:44

    وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ﴿٤٤﴾

    wa-law taqawwala ʿalaynā baʿḍa l-ˈaqāwīli

    Had he faked any sayings in Our name,

45. 69:45

    لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ﴿٤٥﴾

    la-ˈaḫaḏnā minhu bi-l-yamīni

    We would have surely seized him by the right hand

46. 69:46

    ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ﴿٤٦﴾

    ṯumma la-qaṭaʿnā minhu l-watīna

    and then cut off his aorta,

47. 69:47

    فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَـٰجِزِينَ﴿٤٧﴾

    fa-mā minkum min ˈaḥadin ʿanhu ḥāǧizīna

    and none of you could have held Us off from him.

48. 69:48

    وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿٤٨﴾

    wa-ˈinnahū la-taḏkiratun li-l-muttaqīna

    Indeed it is a reminder for the Godwary.

49. 69:49

    وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ﴿٤٩﴾

    wa-ˈinnā la-naʿlamu ˈanna minkum mukaḏḏibīna

    Indeed We know that there are some among you who deny [it].

50. 69:50

    وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ﴿٥٠﴾

    wa-ˈinnahū la-ḥasratun ʿalā l-kāfirīna

    And indeed it will be a [matter of] regret for the faithless.

51. 69:51

    وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ﴿٥١﴾

    wa-ˈinnahū la-ḥaqqu l-yaqīni

    It is indeed certain truth.

52. 69:52

    فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٥٢﴾

    fa-sabbiḥ bi-smi rabbika l-ʿaẓīmi

    So celebrate the Name of your Lord, the All-supreme.
