Surah An-Naba

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 78:1

   عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ﴿١﴾

   ʿamma yatasāˈalūna

   What is it that they are questioning each other about?!

2. 78:2

   عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ﴿٢﴾

   ʿani n-nabaˈi l-ʿaẓīmi

   [Is it] about the Great Tiding,

3. 78:3

   ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ﴿٣﴾

   allaḏī hum fīhi muḫtalifūna

   the one about which they differ?

4. 78:4

   كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ﴿٤﴾

   kallā sa-yaʿlamūna

   No indeed! Soon they will know!

5. 78:5

   ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ﴿٥﴾

   ṯumma kallā sa-yaʿlamūna

   No indeed! Soon they will know for once again!

6. 78:6

   أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا﴿٦﴾

   ˈa-lam naǧʿali l-ˈarḍa mihādan

   Did We not make the earth a resting place?

7. 78:7

   وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا﴿٧﴾

   wa-l-ǧibāla ˈawtādan

   and the mountains stakes?

8. 78:8

   وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا﴿٨﴾

   wa-ḫalaqnākum ˈazwāǧan

   and create you in pairs?

9. 78:9

   وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا﴿٩﴾

   wa-ǧaʿalnā nawmakum subātan

   and make your sleep for rest?

10. 78:10

    وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا﴿١٠﴾

    wa-ǧaʿalnā l-layla libāsan

    and make the night a covering?

11. 78:11

    وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا﴿١١﴾

    wa-ǧaʿalnā n-nahāra maʿāšan

    and make the day for livelihood?

12. 78:12

    وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا﴿١٢﴾

    wa-banaynā fawqakum sabʿan šidādan

    and build above you the seven mighty heavens?

13. 78:13

    وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا﴿١٣﴾

    wa-ǧaʿalnā sirāǧan wahhāǧan

    and make [the sun for] a radiant lamp?

14. 78:14

    وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا﴿١٤﴾

    wa-ˈanzalnā mina l-muʿṣirāti māˈan ṯaǧǧāǧan

    and send down water pouring from the rain-clouds,

15. 78:15

    لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا﴿١٥﴾

    li-nuḫriǧa bihī ḥabban wa-nabātan

    that We may bring forth with it grains and plants,

16. 78:16

    وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا﴿١٦﴾

    wa-ǧannātin ˈalfāfan

    and luxuriant gardens?

17. 78:17

    إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا﴿١٧﴾

    ˈinna yawma l-faṣli kāna mīqātan

    Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst,

18. 78:18

    يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا﴿١٨﴾

    yawma yunfaḫu fī ṣ-ṣūri fa-taˈtūna ˈafwāǧan

    the day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in groups,

19. 78:19

    وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا﴿١٩﴾

    wa-futiḥati s-samāˈu fa-kānat ˈabwāban

    and the sky will be opened and become gates,

20. 78:20

    وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-suyyirati l-ǧibālu fa-kānat sarāban

    and the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage.

21. 78:21

    إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا﴿٢١﴾

    ˈinna ǧahannama kānat mirṣādan

    Indeed hell is in ambush,

22. 78:22

    لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا﴿٢٢﴾

    li-ṭ-ṭāġīna maˈāban

    a resort for the rebels,

23. 78:23

    لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا﴿٢٣﴾

    lābiṯīna fīhā ˈaḥqāban

    to reside therein for ages,

24. 78:24

    لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا﴿٢٤﴾

    lā yaḏūqūna fīhā bardan wa-lā šarāban

    tasting in it neither any coolness nor drink,

25. 78:25

    إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا﴿٢٥﴾

    ˈillā hamīman wa-ġassāqan

    except boiling water and pus,

26. 78:26

    جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا﴿٢٦﴾

    ǧazāˈan wifāqan

    a fitting requital.

27. 78:27

    إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا﴿٢٧﴾

    ˈinnahum kānū lā yarǧūna ḥisāban

    Indeed they did not expect any reckoning,

28. 78:28

    وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا﴿٢٨﴾

    wa-kaḏḏabū bi-ˈāyātinā kiḏḏāban

    and they denied Our signs mendaciously,

29. 78:29

    وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا﴿٢٩﴾

    wa-kulla šayˈin ˈaḥṣaynāhu kitāban

    and We have figured everything in a Book.

30. 78:30

    فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا﴿٣٠﴾

    fa-ḏūqū fa-lan nazīdakum ˈillā ʿaḏāban

    So [now] taste! We shall increase you in nothing but punishment!

31. 78:31

    إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا﴿٣١﴾

    ˈinna li-l-muttaqīna mafāzan

    Indeed a triumph awaits the Godwary:

32. 78:32

    حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا﴿٣٢﴾

    ḥadāˈiqa wa-ˈaʿnāban

    gardens and vineyards,

33. 78:33

    وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا﴿٣٣﴾

    wa-kawāʿiba ˈatrāban

    and buxom maidens of a like age,

34. 78:34

    وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا﴿٣٤﴾

    wa-kaˈsan dihāqan

    and brimming cups.

35. 78:35

    لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا﴿٣٥﴾

    lā yasmaʿūna fīhā laġwan wa-lā kiḏḏāban

    Therein they shall hear neither vain talk nor lies

36. 78:36

    جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا﴿٣٦﴾

    ǧazāˈan min rabbika ʿaṭāˈan ḥisāban

    —a reward and a sufficing bounty from your Lord,

37. 78:37

    رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا﴿٣٧﴾

    rabbi s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-mā baynahumā r-raḥmāni lā yamlikūna minhu ḫiṭāban

    the All-beneficent, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. They will not be able to address Him

38. 78:38

    يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا﴿٣٨﴾

    yawma yaqūmu r-rūḥu wa-l-malāˈikatu ṣaffan lā yatakallamūna ˈillā man ˈaḏina lahu r-raḥmānu wa-qāla ṣawāban

    on the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in an array: none shall speak except someone who is permitted by the All-beneficent and says what is rightful.

39. 78:39

    ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا﴿٣٩﴾

    ḏālika l-yawmu l-ḥaqqu fa-man šāˈa ttaḫaḏa ˈilā rabbihī maˈāban

    That day is true for certain. So let anyone who wishes take resort with his Lord.

40. 78:40

    إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا﴿٤٠﴾

    ˈinnā ˈanḏarnākum ʿaḏāban qarīban yawma yanẓuru l-marˈu mā qaddamat yadāhu wa-yaqūlu l-kāfiru yā-laytanī kuntu turāban

    Indeed We have warned you of a punishment near at hand—the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the faithless one will say, ‘I wish I were dust!’
