Surah Al-Lail

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 92:1

   وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ﴿١﴾

   wa-l-layli ˈiḏā yaġšā

   By the night when it envelops,

2. 92:2

   وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ﴿٢﴾

   wa-n-nahāri ˈiḏā taǧallā

   by the day when it brightens,

3. 92:3

   وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ﴿٣﴾

   wa-mā ḫalaqa ḏ-ḏakara wa-l-ˈunṯā

   by Him who created the male and the female:

4. 92:4

   إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ﴿٤﴾

   ˈinna saʿyakum la-šattā

   your endeavours are indeed diverse.

5. 92:5

   فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ﴿٥﴾

   fa-ˈammā man ˈaʿṭā wa-ttaqā

   As for him who gives and is Godwary

6. 92:6

   وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ﴿٦﴾

   wa-ṣaddaqa bi-l-ḥusnā

   and confirms the best promise,

7. 92:7

   فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ﴿٧﴾

   fa-sa-nuyassiruhū li-l-yusrā

   We will surely ease him toward facility.

8. 92:8

   وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ﴿٨﴾

   wa-ˈammā man baḫila wa-staġnā

   But as for him, who is stingy and self-complacent,

9. 92:9

   وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ﴿٩﴾

   wa-kaḏḏaba bi-l-ḥusnā

   and denies the best promise,

10. 92:10

    فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ﴿١٠﴾

    fa-sa-nuyassiruhū li-l-ʿusrā

    We will surely ease him toward hardship.

11. 92:11

    وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ﴿١١﴾

    wa-mā yuġnī ʿanhu māluhū ˈiḏā taraddā

    His wealth will not avail him when he perishes.

12. 92:12

    إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ﴿١٢﴾

    ˈinna ʿalaynā la-l-hudā

    Indeed guidance rests with Us,

13. 92:13

    وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ﴿١٣﴾

    wa-ˈinnā lanā la-l-ˈāḫirata wa-l-ˈūlā

    and to Us belong the world and the Hereafter.

14. 92:14

    فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰ﴿١٤﴾

    fa-ˈanḏartukum nāran talaẓẓā

    So I warn you of a blazing fire,

15. 92:15

    لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى﴿١٥﴾

    lā yaṣlāhā ˈillā l-ˈašqā

    which none shall enter except the most wretched [of persons]

16. 92:16

    ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿١٦﴾

    allaḏī kaḏḏaba wa-tawallā

    —he who impugns [God’s prophets] and turns his back.

17. 92:17

    وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى﴿١٧﴾

    wa-sa-yuǧannabuhā l-ˈatqā

    The Godwary [person] will be spared of that

18. 92:18

    ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ﴿١٨﴾

    allaḏī yuˈtī mālahū yatazakkā

    —he who gives his wealth to purify himself

19. 92:19

    وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰٓ﴿١٩﴾

    wa-mā li-ˈaḥadin ʿindahū min niʿmatin tuǧzā

    and does not expect any reward from anyone,

20. 92:20

    إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ﴿٢٠﴾

    ˈillā btiġāˈa waǧhi rabbihi l-ˈaʿlā

    but seek only the pleasure of their Lord, the Most Exalted,

21. 92:21

    وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ﴿٢١﴾

    wa-la-sawfa yarḍā

    and, surely, soon they will be well-pleased.
