كأنّي به آخرَ ليلهAs if I see him on his last night,
جالسُ خلفَ خيمةِ الحوراSitting behind the tent of Hawra (Lady Zaynab).
وتسكنُ بحضنهِ رقيهAnd Ruqayya rests in his embrace.
يحكي لها قصّة عاشوراHe tells her the story of Ashura.
غدًا ستشربينَ ماءTomorrow you will drink water.
ورحلةً تأخذكِ زينبAnd a journey will take you to Zaynab.
غدًا يُرفرفُ علي الاصغرTomorrow, he will hover over Al-Asghar,
كالطّير لكنّه لاLike a bird, but he does not...
قالت رُقيّهRuqayya said,
لمَ البُكا يَا أبيWhy the crying, my father?
ردَّ بُنيَّهHe replied, my daughter,
أَبكي لِغُربةِ النّبي (2x)I cry for the loneliness of the Prophet.
غداً ترين كلهمTomorrow you will see all of them,
من الصحب ومن بنيهاFrom the companions and from her sons.
لا ترفعي صوتاDo not raise your voice.
ينام الاكبر القاسمAl-Akbar and Al-Qasim are sleeping.
مع زينبٍ تسيرين مسافهYou will walk a distance with Zaynab,
فلا تستوحشي من الخرابهSo do not feel lonely in the ruins.
لن تُبصري مني سوى راسيYou will see nothing of me but my head,
ويتلوا لك فوق الرمح آياتAnd it will recite verses for you from atop the spear.
يا رقيهO Ruqayya,
لكِ هديهYou have a gift.
في الشام دون احدْIn Sham, without anyone.
راسي سيبقى بحضنك للأبدْMy head will remain in your embrace forever.
اه حسينAh, Hussein!
غداً ترينَ عمك ابا الفضلTomorrow you will see your uncle, Aba al-Fadl,
بالقربةِ يمضي الى النهرِWith the waterskin, heading to the river.
وبعدها ترينني عاريAnd after that, you will see me naked.
ذهب الحسين مستقيم القامهHussein went with an upright stature,
عاد محدوده الظهرHe returned with a broken back.
