سبحانه هل خصها في سورة الإسراء؟Glory be to Him! Did He single her out in Surah al-Isra?

أم آية الآلاء في سورة الرحمن؟Or in the verse of bounties in Surah ar-Rahman?

هل كان اسم الله في تسبيحة الزهراءWas the name of God within the tasbih of az-Zahra,

تتلوه للعلياء في بابها النيران؟Reciting it to the heavens while flames raged at her door?

فوق ساق العرش آيات النجاة القائمةUpon the pillar of the Throne stand the eternal verses of salvation:

لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلا ذو الفقارThere is no youth like Ali, there is no sword like Zulfiqar!

لا فتى لا فتى إلا عليThere is no youth, no youth like Ali,

لا سيف إلا ذو الفقارThere is no sword like Zulfiqar!

ارفع إيدك[Raise your hands!]

لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلا ذو الفقارThere is no youth like Ali, there is no sword like Zulfiqar!

اسمها وردة وتفوحHer name is a blossom diffusing its fragrance,

وكلمة للروحAnd a word that gives life to the soul,

من بابها الأملاك كانت تهتدي وتروحFrom her doorway the angels would find guidance and come and go,

بل دمعة المحراب من عين داحي البابNay, the tear of the prayer niche from the eye of the gate-breaker,

تهوي لتختلط الدموع دما على الأعتابFalls so that tears mingle with blood upon the threshold.

هل جاء جبريل يجر مصيبة بالآهHas Gabriel come bearing a calamity with sighs,

معه حديث الله في بابها يقرأReading with him the word of God at her door?

هل راح يدعو المصطفى حين انتحى بالغارDid he go to call upon the Chosen One as he withdrew into the cave?

كوني يا نار دار بردا على الزهراء"O fire of the house, be coolness upon al-Zahra!"

بردا على الزهراءCoolness upon al-Zahra!

فوق باب الدار قد خطت كفوف اللاطمةAbove the house's door, mourning hands have inscribed:

لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلاThere is no youth like Ali, and no sword like...

لا فتى إلا علي (2x)There is no youth like Ali!

لا سيف إلاAnd no sword like...

يا أبا علي (4x)O Aba Ali!

دم على الأعتابBlood upon the thresholds,

دم على الخد من أعين المهدي (2x)Blood on the cheek from the eyes of al-Mahdi,

للثار يبكي غربة دهرا من البعد (2x)Yearning for retribution, he weeps in estrangement throughout an eternity of distance,

يجثو بباب الدار ليضيف الزوارHe kneels by the door of the house to host the visitors,

ينعى إذا ذكروا مصاب عباءة وخمار (2x)He mourns when they recount the tragedy of the cloak and veil,

اسمع بين الأسارى والحيارى في مجالس فاطمListen! Among the captives and the bewildered in Fatima's gatherings,

قد مر طيف القائمThe apparition of al-Qa'im has passed by,

كي يؤنس الأيتامto comfort the orphans,

ويجول بين اللاطمينand he walks among the chest-beaters,

جماعة بجماعةgroup by group,

قد جئتكم بشفاعة"I have brought you intercession,

يا معشر الخدمO assembly of servants!"

راح يتلو والقلوب بذي المقولة هائمةHe began to recite, while hearts were enraptured by these words:

لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلا"There is no hero like Ali, no sword like—"

لا فتى"There is no hero—"

لا فتى إلا علي لا سيف إلا"There is no hero like Ali, no sword like—"

بين الأسارى والغيارة في مجالس فاطمAmong the captives and the zealous ones in the gatherings of Fatimah,

قد مر طيف القائمthe apparition of al-Qa'im has passed by,

كي يؤنس الأيتامto comfort the orphans,

ويجول بين اللاطمينand he walks among the chest-beaters,

جماعة بجماعةgroup by group,

قد جئتكم بشفاعة"I have brought you intercession,

يا معشر الخدمO assembly of servants!"
