(2x)Peace be upon your dust, O Karbala.
(2x)We were created from its wounds as water and clay.
Peace, peace be upon your dust, O Karbala.
(2x)I was created from its wounds as water and clay.
O Karbala!
No night was ever as dark as those nights,
ما ابيضَّ غُرَّةُ رأسٍ مثلَ مقتولِ الرجالand no forelock shone white like that of the slain prince of men,
ما احمرَّ جفونٌ مثلَ سلطانِ الجمالnor were any eyelids as crimsoned as those of the sovereign of beauty,
ما ازرقَّ بحرٌ مثلَ متنِ اللياليnor was any sea as bruised as the back of those nights,
(2x)nor was any garden as lush green as the heart of the devotee,
Who else but him?
In his radiant light,
فيهِ تاهَ كلُّ أربابِ العقولall masters of intellect have lost their way.
They surrendered it to the ages,
وسدرةُ القلبِ تقولwhile the Sidra of the heart cries out:
I chained my longing, wearing sorrow as a necklace.
I sewed my tears into a pillow cover.
I burned my heart when its ashes scattered.
I dedicated my days to him since the moment of my birth.
(2x)There is no wedding in the path of God except the wedding of martyrdom.
I chained my longing, wearing sorrow as a necklace.
I sewed my tears into a pillow cover.
I burned my heart when its ashes scattered.
I surrendered my days to them upon my birth.
(2x)There is no wedding in the path of God except the wedding of martyrdom.
You are my refuge,
تاه وصفيmy description fails,
كيف أطفيhow can I extinguish
نار حزني بالورقthe fire of my sorrow with paper?
And the tears of my ink have glistened,
حتى بكى الحرف واحترق سلuntil the very letter wept and burnt. Ask,
I see him gathering the companions and revealing the secrets:
Your loyalty has been etched into the Book of Light,"
Take, take each other's hands,
فإن الليل يغشىfor the night is covering,
عظيم الذبح بجاءت ليفدي الدين كبشاthe great sacrifice has come to ransom the religion like an offering."

Peace be upon those who rejoiced at death in the night:
A sacrifice for your eyes, we gave our blood cheaply through burning and slaying,"

May we not live if the host should bear down upon you,
وشمر قد علا الصدر وشيل الراس شيلاand Shimr mounts your chest and the head is raised and severed!"
May we not live while the host has borne down upon you,
وشمر قاعد على صدره وشيل الراس شيلاand Shimr is seated upon his chest and the head is lifted away!"
(2x)He showed them the kingdom of the heavens,
مضوا من بعدها للتلاواتand after that, they went to their recitations.

And behind the tent, our master returned,
(2x)his hands behind his bowed back.
She watched him pacing back and forth,
قالت يا أخي لم أنت صاحِand said, "O my brother, why are you still awake?"
The grandson of the Prophet replied, "O my sister,
إني أشم الموت في صوت الرياحindeed I smell death in the sound of the winds.
It is hard for me to see this state of grief,
فلو أني سيف لهم قتالfor I am as a battling sword against them.
Tomorrow you shall witness from me
إذا حافر خيل بصدر جاءwhen the horses' hooves trample upon my chest.

إذا حافر خيل بصدر جاءwhen the horses' hooves trample upon my chest.
And I will remain bare upon the burning sands,
وتمضين بأغلال الحديدwhile you depart in iron shackles.
So I counsel you: be like Ali,
(2x)when you are brought into the palace of Yazid.

O tyrant, the judgment belongs to us, inherited from Ali,
ولنا الحق كما الحق جاء من عليand the truth is ours, just as truth came forth through Ali.
As for your worldly power, to us it is worth less than a shoelace, as taught by Ali.
(2x)O tyrant, the authority belongs to us from Ali!
And truth belongs to us, just as the truth came through Ali!
As for your worldly power, to us it is worth less than the strap of a sandal, as Ali said!
(2x)O son of the freed captives, I call out to you, so listen!
Lounge arrogantly atop the blood of my family, lounge!
You shall perish, while we will live on in every blooming flower,
And with every echo of the call to prayer that will be raised!
And with every echo of the call to prayer...
Count your days, for they are nothing but numbered and fleeting,
And boast of your army, for it is merely a fleeting count!
Count your days, for they are nothing but numbered and fleeting,
And boast of your army, for it is merely a fleeting count!
(2x)May the curse of Allah be upon the begetter and what he begot!
Did you think you would hear wailing in my voice,
When my brother fell slain in deep thirst?
I am the gnosis of Taha made manifest within me,
(3x)By Allah, I saw nothing but beauty!
O tyrant, to us...

O son of the freed captives, I call to you, so listen!
Sit proudly upon the blood of my family, sit upon your throne!
You shall perish, while we will live on in every blossom,
(2x)And with every echo of the call to prayer that rises.

And boast of your army, for it is merely a count of men.
God's curse be upon the father...

When my brother has fallen, slain and thirsty?
إن عرفان طه في تجلىVerily, the spiritual knowledge of Taha manifests within me;
By God, I saw nothing but...
By God, not...
By God, I saw nothing...
Yet I shall weep alongside the mother of a martyr,
When he was brought back and she cried out: 'Oh, my dear child!'
Yet I shall weep alongside the mother of a martyr,
When he was brought back and she cried out: 'Oh, my dear child!'
With his daughter, a weeping wife, and a sister, I shall mourn,
And a father who never submitted like a slave.
Hussein took my hand, behind every traveler,
Who leaves his family behind and marches to the ramparts.
Hussein held my hand above every traveler,
Leaving his family behind and heading to the frontlines,
We guide him toward the countenance of the Mahdi of the Age.
(2x)For this is Karbala, and this is the tenth day.
Yet I shall weep alongside the mother of a martyr returned home,
As she cried out: 'Oh, my precious son!'
With his son, wife, sister, and father I weep,
Who never yielded like subservient slaves.
Hussain holds my hand behind every traveler,
Who leaves his family behind and heads to the frontlines.
