كانني به اخر ليلIt is as if I see him on his last night,
جالس خلف خيمه الحوراءSitting behind the tent of Hurra (Zainab).
وتسكن بحضنه رقيهAnd Ruqayya rests in his embrace.
لها عن قصه عاشوراءHe tells her the story of Ashura.
ستشربين نهر غداTomorrow you will drink from the river.
ورحله تاخذك يا زينبAnd a journey will take you, Zainab.
غدا يرفرف على الاصغرTomorrow it will flutter over Al-Asghar,
كطير لكنه لاLike a bird, but it does not drink.
قالت رقيهRuqayya said,
لما البكاءWhy the crying?

من الصحب ومن بني هاشمFrom the companions and from Bani Hashim.

ينام الاكبر القادم مع زينبThe elder Qasim sleeps next to Zainab.
تسيرين مسافهYou will walk a distance.
فلا تستوحشي من الخرابهSo do not feel lonely in the ruins.
لن تبصري مني سوى راسيYou will see nothing of me but my head.
ويتلوا لك فوق الرمح ايهAnd it will recite verses for you from atop the spear.
يا رقيهOh Ruqayya,
لك هديهYou have a gift.
في الشام دون احدIn Sham, without anyone.
راسي سيطابMy head will remain.
بحبك الى الابدIn your embrace forever.
اخ حسينOh Hussein.
غدا ترين عمك ابا الفضلTomorrow you will see your uncle, Abu al-Fadl,
بالقرب يمضي الى النهرWith the waterskin, going to the river.
وبعدها ترينني عائداAnd after that, you will see me returning.
