Dua Arafah

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي لَيْسَ لِقَضَائِهِ دَافِعٌ

alhamdu lillahi alladhi laysa liqada'ihi dafi`un

Praise be to Allah Whose determination cannot be repelled by anything,

وَلاَ لِعَطَائِهِ مَانِعٌ

wa la li`ata'ihi mani`un

Whose gifts cannot be stopped by anything,

وَلاَ كَصُنْعِهِ صُنْعُ صَانِعٍ

wa la kasun`ihi sun`u sani`in

and Whose making cannot be resembled by the making of anyone.

وَهُوَ ٱلْجَوَادُ ٱلْوَاسِعُ

wa huwa aljawadu alwasi`u

He is the All-magnanimous, the All-liberal.

فَطَرَ أَجْنَاسَ ٱلْبَدَائِعِ

fatara ajnasa albada'i`i

He originated the genus of the wonderfully created things

وَأَتْقَنَ بِحِكْمَتِهِ ٱلصَّنَائِعَ

wa atqana bihikmatihi alssana'i`a

and He perfected the made things by His wisdom.

لا تَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ٱلطَّلاَئِعُ

la takhfa `alayhi alttala'i`u

All growing things cannot be hidden from Him

وَلاَ تَضِيعُ عِنْدَهُ ٱلْوَدَائِعُ

wa la tadi`u `indahu alwada'i`u

and all things deposited with Him shall never be wasted.

جَازِي كُلِّ صَانِعٍ

jazi kulli sani`in

He is the Repayer on every deed,

وَرَايِشُ كُلِّ قَانِعٍ

wa rayishu kulli qani`in

the Enricher of every satisfied one,

وَرَاحِمُ كُلِّ ضَارِعٍ

wa rahimu kulli dari`in

the Merciful toward every suppliant,

وَمُنْزِلُ ٱلْمَنَافِعِ

wa munzilu almanafi`i

and the Revealer of the benefits

وَٱلْكِتَابِ ٱلْجَامِعِ بِٱلنُّورِ ٱلسَّاطِعِ

walkitabi aljami`i bilnnuri alssati`i

and the All-comprehensive Book with the glaring light.

وَهُوَ لِلدَّعَوَاتِ سَامِعٌ

wa huwa lildda`awati sami`un

He is also the Hearer of prayers,

وَلِلْكُرُبَاتِ دَافِعٌ

wa lilkurubati dafi`un

the Warder-off of anguishes,

وَلِلدَّرَجَاتِ رَافِعٌ

wa lilddarajati rafi`un

the Raiser of ranks,

وَلِلْجَبَابِرَةِ قَامِعٌ

wa liljababirati qami`un

and the Suppressor of the tyrants.

فَلاَ إِلٰهَ غَيْرُهُ

fala ilaha ghayruhu

There is no god other than Him

وَلاَ شَيْءَ يَعْدِلُهُ

wa la shay'a ya`diluhu

and there is nothing equivalent to Him

وَلَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ

wa laysa kamithlihi shay'un

and nothing like a likeness of Him,

وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ

wa huwa alssami`u albasiru

and He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing,

ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ

allatifu alkhabiru

the All-gentle, the All-aware,

وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

wa huwa `ala kulli shay'in qadirun

and He has power over all things.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَرْغَبُ إِلَيْكَ

allahumma inni arghabu ilayka

O Allah, I willingly desire for You

وَأَشْهَدُ بِٱلرُّبُوبِيَّةِ لَكَ

wa ashhadu bilrrububiyyati laka

and I testify to the Lordship of You,

مُقِرّاً بِأَنَّكَ رَبِّي

muqirran bi'annaka rabbi

confessing that You are verily my Lord

وَأَنَّ إِلَيْكَ مَرَدِّي

wa anna ilayka maraddi

and to You shall be my return.

اِبْتَدَأْتَنِي بِنِعْمَتِكَ

ibtada'tani bini`matika

You had begun bestowing on me

قَبْلَ أَنْ أَكُونَ شَيْئاً مَذْكُوراً

qabla an akuna shay'an madhkuran

before I was anything worth mentioning,

وَخَلَقْتَنِي مِنَ ٱلتُّرَابِ

wa khalaqtani min altturabi

and You created me from dust.

ثُمَّ أَسْكَنْتَنِي ٱلأَصْلاَبَ

thumma askantani al-aslaba

You then put me up in the loins,

آمِناً لِرَيْبِ ٱلْمَنُونِ

aminan liraybi almanuni

(making me) saved from vicissitudes of time,

وَٱخْتِلافِ ٱلدُّهُورِ وَٱلسِّنِينَ

wakhtilafi aldduhuri walssinina

and change of ages and years.

فَلَمْ أَزَلْ ظَاعِناً مِنْ صُلْبٍ إِلَىٰ رَحِمٍ

falam azal za`inan min sulbin ila rahimin

I was moving from a loin to a womb

فِي تَقَادُمٍ مِنَ ٱلأَيَّامِ ٱلْمَاضِيَةِ

fi taqadumin min al-ayyami almadiyati

throughout the passage of the past days

وَٱلْقُرُونِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ

walquruni alkhaliyati

and the ancient ages;

لَمْ تُخْرِجْنِي لِرَأْفَتِكَ بِي

lam tukhrijni lira'fatika bi

as You have not taken me out (to this world)—on account of Your sympathy to me,

وَلُطْفِكَ لِي

wa lutfika li

Your kindness to me,

وَإِحْسَانِكَ إِلَيَّ

wa ihsanika ilayya

and Your compassion to me—

فِي دَوْلَةِ أَئِمَّةِ ٱلْكُفْرِ

fi dawlati a'immati alkufri

in the government of the heads of unbelief

ٱلَّذِينَ نَقَضُوٱ عَهْدَكَ

alladhina naqadu `ahdaka

who breached their covenant with You

وَكَذَّبُوٱ رُسُلَكَ

wa kadhdhabu rusulaka

and denied Your messengers.

لٰكِنَّكَ أَخْرَجْتَنِي لِلَّذِي سَبَقَ لِي مِنَ ٱلْهُدَىٰ

lakinnaka akhrajtani lilladhi sabaqa li min alhuda

However, You took me out on account of the guidance that You have already known about me

ٱلَّذِي لَهُ يَسَّرْتَنِي

alladhi lahu yassartani

and You have made easy the way to it

وَفِيهِ أَنْشَأْتَنِي

wa fihi ansha'tani

and You have brought me up in it.

وَمِنْ قَبْلِ ذٰلِكَ رَؤُفْتَ بِي

wa min qabli dhalika ra'ufta bi

Even before that, You had compassion on me,

بِجَمِيلِ صُنْعِكَ

bijamili sun`ika

through Your excellent conferral

وَسَوَابِغِ نِعَمِكَ

wa sawabighi ni`amika

and Your affluent bestowals.

فَٱبْتَدَعْتَ خَلْقِي مِنْ مَنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ

fabtada`ta khalqi min maniyyin yumna

So, You fashioned my creation from semen that gushed forth

وَأَسْكَنْتَنِي فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ ثَلاَثٍ

wa askantani fi zulumatin thalathin

and put me up in triple darkness

بَيْنَ لَحْمٍ وَدَمٍ وَجِلْدٍ

bayna lahmin wa damin wa jildin

among flesh, blood, and skin.

لَمْ تُشْهِدْنِي خَلْقِي

lam tushhidni khalqi

You have not made me witness my creation,

وَلَمْ تَجْعَلْ إِلَيَّ شَيْئاً مِنْ أَمْرِي

wa lam taj`al ilayya shay'an min amri

and You have not referred any part of my creation to me.

ثُمَّ أَخْرَجْتَنِي لِلَّذِي سَبَقَ لِي مِنَ ٱلْهُدَىٰ

thumma akhrajtani lilladhi sabaqa li min alhuda

You then took me out on account of the guidance that You have already known about me

إِلَىٰ ٱلدُّنْيَا تَامّاً سَوِيّاً

ila alddunya tamman sawiyyan

to the world, perfect and in sound health.

وَحَفِظْتَنِي فِي ٱلْمَهْدِ طِفْلاً صَبِيّاً

wa hafiztani fi almahdi tiflan sabiyyan

You have safeguarded me in the cradle as small child.

وَرَزَقْتَنِي مِنَ ٱلْغِذَاءِ لَبَناً مَرِيّاً

wa razaqtani min alghidha'i labanan mariyyan

You have provided me with wholesome milk as food.

وَعَطَفْتَ عَلَيَّ قُلُوبَ ٱلْحَوَاضِنِ

wa `atafta `alayya quluba alhawadini

You have made the hearts of the nursemaids tender.

وَكَفَّلْتَنِي ٱلأُمَّهَاتِ ٱلرَّوَاحِمَ

wa kaffaltani al-ummahati alrrawahima

You have given me into the charge of merciful mothers.

وَكَلَأْتَنِي مِنْ طَوَارِقِ ٱلْجَانِّ

wa kala'tani min tawariqi aljanni

You have saved me from the visits of the Jinn.

وَسَلَّمْتَنِي مِنَ ٱلزِّيَادَةِ وَٱلنُّقْصَانِ

wa sallamtani min alzziyadati walnnuqsani

You have delivered me from increase and decrease.

فَتَعَالَيْتَ يَا رَحِيمُ يَا رَحْمٰنُ

fata`alayta ya rahimu ya rahmanu

So, Exalted be You, O All-merciful, O All-beneficent.

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا ٱسْتَهْلَلْتُ نَاطِقاً بِٱلْكَلاَمِ

hatta idha istahlaltu natiqan bilkalami

When I commenced (my life) by pronouncing words,

أَتْمَمْتَ عَلَيَّ سَوَابِغَ ٱلإِنْعَامِ

atmamta `alayya sawabigha al-in`ami

You perfected for me the affluent bestowals,

وَرَبَّيتَنِي زَائِداً فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ

wa rabbaytani za'idan fi kulli `amin

and brought me up with an increase every year.

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا ٱكْتَمَلَتْ فِطْرَتِي

hatta idha iktamalat fitrati

When my creation was accomplished,

وَٱعْتَدَلَتْ مِرَّتِي

wa`tadalat mirrati

and my power became straight,

أَوْجَبْتَ عَلَيَّ حُجَّتَكَ

awjabta `alayya hujjataka

You put me under the obligation of Your Claim,

بِأَنْ أَلْهَمْتَنِي مَعْرِفَتَكَ

bi'an alhamtani ma`rifataka

which is that You inspired me with recognition of You

وَرَوَّعْتَنِي بِعَجَائِبِ حِكْمَتِكَ

wa rawwa`tani bi`aja'ibi hikmatika

and alarmed me by the wonders of Your wisdom,

وَأَيْقَظْتَنِي لِمَا ذَرَأْتَ فِي سَمَائِكَ وَأَرْضِكَ

wa ayqaztani lima dhara'ta fi sama'ika wa ardika

and You aroused in me that which You created in Your heavens and lands,

مِنْ بَدَائِعِ خَلْقِكَ

min bada'i`i khalqika

which is the excellent creation of You.

وَنَبَّهْتَنِي لِشُكْرِكَ وَذِكْرِكَ

wa nabbahtani lishukrika wa dhikrika

You attracted my attentions to thank and mention You.

وَأَوْجَبْتَ عَلَيَّ طَاعَتَكَ وَعِبَادَتَكَ

wa awjabta `alayya ta`ataka wa `ibadataka

You made obligatory on me to obey and worship You.

وَفَهَّمْتَنِي مَا جَاءَتْ بِهِ رُسُلُكَ

wa fahhamtani ma ja'at bihi rusuluka

You made me understand that with which Your Apostles came.

وَيَسَّرْتَ لِي تَقَبُّلَ مَرْضَاتِكَ

wa yassarta li taqabbula mardatika

You made easy for me to find agreeable Your pleasure.

وَمَنَنْتَ عَلَيَّ فِي جَمِيعِ ذٰلِكَ

wa mananta `alayya fi jami`i dhalika

You bestowed upon me with the favor of all that,

بِعَوْنِكَ وَلُطْفِكَ

bi`awnika wa lutfika

out of Your aid and Your gentleness.

ثُمَّ إِذْ خَلَقْتَنِي مِنْ خَيْرِ ٱلثَّرَىٰ

thumma idh khalaqtani min khayri alththara

As You created me from the best of soil,

لَمْ تَرْضَ لِي يَا إِلٰهِي نِعْمَةً دُونَ أُخْرَىٰ

lam tarda li ya ilahi ni`matan duna ukhra

You, my God, have not wanted for me to have a certain favor (and to be deprived of another)

وَرَزَقْتَنِي مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ ٱلْمَعَاشِ

wa razaqtani min anwa`i alma`ashi

and You therefore provided me with the various kinds of living

وَصُنُوفِ ٱلرِّيَاشِ

wa sunufi alrriyashi

and types of wealth,

بِمَنِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٱلأَعْظَمِ عَلَيَّ

bimannaka al`azimi al-a`zami `alayya

out of Your great and grand conferral upon me,

وَإِحْسَانِكَ ٱلْقَدِيمِ إِلَيَّ

wa ihsanika alqadimi ilayya

and Your eternal kindness to me.

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا أَتْمَمْتَ عَلَيَّ جَمِيعَ ٱلنِّعَمِ

hatta idha atmamta `alayya jami`a alnni`ami

As You perfected for me all the graces

وَصَرَفْتَ عَنِّي كُلَّ ٱلنِّقَمِ

wa sarafta `anni kulla alnniqami

and warded off all misfortunes,

لَمْ يَمْنَعْكَ جَهْلِي وَجُرْأَتِي عَلَيْكَ

lam yamna`ka jahli wa jur'ati `alayka

my ignorance of You and challenge have not stopped You

أَنْ دَلَلْتَنِي إِلَىٰ مَا يُقَرِّبُنِي إِلَيْكَ

an dalaltani ila ma yuqarribuni ilayka

from showing me that which takes me near to You,

وَوَفَّقْتَنِي لِمَا يُزْلِفُنِي لَدَيْكَ

wa waffaqtani lima yuzlifuni ladayka

and from leading me to that which grants me proximity to You.

فَإِنْ دَعَوْتُكَ أَجَبْتَنِي

fa'in da`awtuka ajabtani

So, if I pray You, You will respond to me;

وَإِنْ سَأَلْتُكَ أَعْطَيْتَنِي

wa in sa'altuka a`taytani

and if I beg You, You will give me;

وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُكَ شَكَرْتَنِي

wa in ata`tuka shakartani

and if I obey You, You will thank me;

وَإِنْ شَكَرْتُكَ زِدْتَنِي

wa in shakartuka zidtani

and if I thank You, You will give me more.

كُلُّ ذٰلِكَ إِكْمَالاً لأَنْعُمِكَ عَلَيَّ

kullu dhalika ikmalan li'an`umika `alayya

All that is completion of Your favors for me,

وَإِحْسَانِكَ إِلَيَّ

wa ihsanika ilayya

and Your kindness to me.

فَسُبْحَانَكَ سُبْحَانَكَ

fasubhanaka subhanaka

So, all glory be to You; all glory be to You.

مِنْ مُبْدِيً مُعِيدٍ

min mubdiyin mu`idin

You are verily Originator and Reproducer (of the creation)

حَمِيدٍ مَجِيدٍ

hamidin majidin

and worthy of all praise and full of all glory.

وَتَقَدَّسَتْ أَسْمَاؤُكَ

wa taqaddasat asma'uka

Holy be Your Names

وَعَظُمَتْ آلاؤُكَ

wa `azumat ala'uka

as Your bounties are so immeasurable.

فَأَيَّ نِعَمِكَ يَا إِلٰهِي أُحْصِي عَدَداً وَذِكْراً؟

fa'ayya ni`amika ya ilahi uhsi `adadan wa dhikran

Which of Your favors, O my God, can I count in numbers and examples?

أَمْ أَيَّ عَطَايَاكَ أَقُومُ بِهَا شُكْراً

am ayya `atayaka aqumu biha shukran

Or which of Your gifts can I thank properly?

وَهِيَ يَا رَبِّ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ أَنْ يُحْصِيهَا ٱلْعَادُّونَ

wa hiya ya rabbi aktharu min an yuhsiha al`adduna

They are, O my Lord, too numerous to be counted by counters

أَوْ يَبْلُغَ عِلْماً بِهَا ٱلْحَافِظُونَ

aw yablugha `ilman biha alhafizuna

or to be realized by memorizers.

ثُمَّ مَا صَرَفْتَ وَدَرَأْتَ عَنِّي

thumma ma sarafta wa darata `anni

Moreover, that which You have warded off and repelled,

اللَّهُمَّ مِنَ ٱلضُّرِّ وَٱلضَّرَّاءِ

allahumma min alddurri walddarra'i

O Allah, from (the various kinds of) harm and mischief

أَكْثَرُ مِمَّا ظَهَرَ لِي مِنَ ٱلْعَافِيَةِ وَٱلسَّرَّاءِ

aktharu mimma zahara li min al`afiyati walssarra'i

is more than that which came to me from wellbeing and joy.

وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ يَا إِلٰهِي بِحَقِيقَةِ إِيـمَانِي

wa ana ashhadu ya ilahi bihaqiqati imani

And I bear witness, O my God, with my true belief,

وَعَقْدِ عَزَمَاتِ يَقِينِي

wa `aqdi `azamati yaqini

and the fortitude of the determinations of my conviction

وَخَالِصِ صَرِيحِ تَوْحِيدِي

wa khalisi sarihi tawhidi

and the purity of my open belief in Your Oneness

وَبَاطِنِ مَكْنُونِ ضَمِيرِي

wa batini maknuni damiri

and the essence of the secret of my conscience,

وَعَلاَئِقِ مَجَارِي نُورِ بَصَرِي

wa `ala'iqi majari nuri basari

and the ties of the canals of the light of my sight,

وَأَسَارِيرِ صَفْحَةِ جَبِينِي

wa asariri safhati jabini

and the lines of my forehead

وَخُرْقِ مَسَارِبِ نَفْسِي

wa khurqi masaribi nafsi

and the hallows of the courses of my breath,

وَخَذَارِيفِ مَارِنِ عِرْنِينِي

wa khadharifi marini `irnini

and the (nasal) cavities of my nose,

وَمَسَارِبِ صِمَاخِ سَمْعِي

wa masaribi simakhi sam`i

and the courses of the meatus of my hearing,

وَمَا ضَمَّتْ وَأَطْبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِ شَفَتَايَ

wa ma dammat wa atbaqat `alayhi shafataya

and whatever my two lips hide and cover up,

وَحَرَكَاتِ لَفْظِ لِسَانِي

wa harakati lafzi lisani

and the motions of the vocalization of my tongue,

وَمَغْرَزِ حَنَكِ فَمِي وَفَكِّي

wa maghrazi hanaki fami wa fakki

and the socket of the palate of my mouth and jaw,

وَمَنَابِتِ أَضْرَاسِي

wa manabiti adrasi

and the matrices of my dents,

وَمَسَاغِ مَطْعَمِي وَمَشْرَبِي

wa masaghi mat`ami wa mashrabi

and the tasting of my food and my drink,

وَحِمَالَةِ أُمِّ رَأْسِي

wa himalati ummi ra'si

and the carrier of my skill,

وَبُلُوعِ فَارِغِ حَبَائِلِ عُنُقِي

wa bulu`i farighi haba'ili `unuqi

and the tube of the tissues of my neck

وَمَا ٱشْتَمَلَ عَلَيْهِ تَامُورُ صَدْرِي

wa ma ishtamala `alayhi tamuru sadri

and what is included by the cloak of my chest,

وَحَمَائِلِ حَبْلِ وَتِينِي

wa hama'ili habli watini

and the carriers of the cord of my aorta,

وَنِيَاطِ حِجَابِ قَلْبِي

wa niyati hijabi qalbi

and the cords of the pericardium of my heart,

وَأَفْلاذِ حَوَاشِي كَبِدِي

wa afladhi hawashi kabidi

and the pieces of the retinues of my liver,

وَمَا حَوَتْهُ شَرَاسِيفُ أَضْلاَعِي

wa ma hawat-hu sharasifu adla`i

and that which is included by the cartilages of my ribs,

وَحِقَاقِ مَفَاصِلِي

wa hiqaqi mafasili

and the cavities of my joints,

وَقَبْضِ عَوَامِلِي

wa qabdi `awamili

and the interactings of my organisms,

وَأَطْرَافِ أَنَامِلِي

wa atrafi anamili

and the extremes of my fingertips,

وَلَحْمِي وَدَمِي

wa lahmi wa dami

and my flesh, and my blood,

وَشَعْرِي وَبَشَرِي

wa sha`ri wa bashari

and my hair, and my skin,

وَعَصَبِي وَقَصَبِي

wa `asabi wa qasabi

and my nerve, and my sinews,

وَعِظَامِي وَمُخِّي وَعُرُوقِي

wa `izami wa mukhkhi wa `uruqi

and my bones, and my brain, and my veins,

وَجَمِيعِ جَوَارِحِي

wa jami`i jawarihi

and all of my organs,

وَمَا ٱنْتَسَجَ عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ أَيَّامَ رِضَاعِي

wa ma intasaja `ala dhalika ayyama rida`i

and that which was pieced together during the days of my suckling,

وَمَا أَقَلَّتِ ٱلأَرْضُ مِنِّي

wa ma aqallat al-ardu minni

and whatever of my body that the ground carries,

وَنَوْمِي وَيَقْظَتِي وَسُكُونِي

wa nawmi wa yaqzati wa sukuni

and my sleeping, and my wakefulness, and my motionlessness,

وَحَرَكَاتِ رُكُوعِي وَسُجُودِي

wa harakati ruku`i wa sujudi

and the movements of my bowing and prostration;

أَنْ لَوْ حَاوَلْتُ وَٱجْتَهَدْتُ مَدَىٰ ٱلأَعْصَارِ

an law hawaltu wa ijtahadtu mada al-a`sari

(by all that I bear witness) that if I try my best and strive throughout all ages

وَٱلأَحْقَابِ لَوْ عُمِّرْتُهَا

wal-ahqabi law `ummirtuha

and all times, if I live them,

أَنْ أُؤَدِّيَ شُكْرَ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْ أَنْعُمِكَ

an u'addiya shukra wahidatin min an`umika

to thank properly only one of Your favors,

مَا ٱسْتَطَعْتُ ذٰلِكَ

ma istata`tu dhalika

I will not be able to do that,

إِلاَّ بِمَنِّكَ ٱلْمُوجَبِ عَلَيَّ بِهِ شُكْرُكَ

illa bimannika almujabi `alayya bihi shukruka

except through a favor of You, which also requires me to thank You for it,

أَبَداً جَدِيداً

abadan jadidan

once again with new thanking

وَثَنَاءً طَارِفاً عَتِيداً

wa thana'an tarifan `atidan

and with praise that is newly acquired and newly prepared.

أَجَلْ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُ

ajal wa law harastu

True is this! And if I try hard,

أَنَا وَٱلْعَادُّونَ مِنْ أَنَامِكَ

ana wal-`adduna min anamika

as well as the counters from Your creatures,

أَنْ نُحْصِيَ مَدَىٰ إِنْعَامِكَ

an nuhsiya mada in`amika

to count the scope of Your favoring,

سَالِفِهِ وَآنِفِهِ

salifihi wa anifihi

both the past and the present,

مَا حَصَرْنَاهُ عَدَداً

ma hasarnahu `adadan

we shall never be able to calculate it in number,

وَلاَ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ أَمَداً

wa la ahsaynahu amadan

or count it in time.

هَيْهَاتَ أَنَّىٰ ذٰلِكَ

hayhata anna dhalika

Too far is this! How can it be!

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْمُخْبِرُ فِي كِتَابِكَ ٱلنَّاطِقِ

wa anta almukhbiru fi kitabika alnnatiqi

While it is You Who have informed in Your rational Book

وَٱلنَّبَأِ ٱلصَّادِقِ

walnnaba'i alssadiqi

and true news:

”وَإِنْ تَعُدُّوٱ نِعْمَةَ اللّهِ لاَ تُحْصُوهَا“

wa'in ta`uddu ni`mata allahi la tuhsuha

“And if you count Allah's favors, you will not be able to number them.”

صَدَقَ كِتَابُكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ وَإِنْبَاؤُكَ

sadaqa kitabuka allahumma wa inba'uka

True is Your Book, O Allah, and Your informing.

وَبَلَّغَتْ أَنْبِيَاؤُكَ وَرُسُلُكَ

wa ballaghat anbiya'uka wa rusuluka

Your Prophets and Messengers have conveyed

مَا أَنْزَلْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ وَحْيِكَ

ma anzalta `alayhim min wahyika

what You revealed to them, from Your Revelation,

وَشَرَعْتَ لَهُمْ وَبِهِمْ مِنْ دِينِكَ

wa shara`ta lahum wa bihim min dinika

and what You have made plain for them and through them Your religion.

غَيْرَ أَنِّي يَا إِلٰهِي

ghayra anni ya ilahi

Nevertheless, O my God,

أَشْهَدُ بِجُهْدِي وَجِدِّي

ashhadu bijuhdi wa jiddi

I bear witness by my ultimate possibility and my diligence

وَمَبْلَغِ طَاقَتِي وَوُسْعِي

wa mablaghi taqati wa wus`i

and the scope of my vigor and my capacity,

وَأَقُولُ مُؤْمِناً مُوقِناً

wa aqulu mu'minan muqinan

and I say with full faith and conviction:

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَداً

alhamdu lillahi alladhi lam yattakhidh waladan

All praise be to Allah Who has not taken to Himself a son

فَيَكُونَ مَوْرُوثاً

fayakuna mawruthan

to be inherited,

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي مُلْكِهِ

wa lam yakun lahu sharikun fi mulkihi

and Who does not have a partner in His kingdom,

فَيُضَادُّهُ فِيمَا ٱبْتَدَعَ

fayudadduhu fima ibtada`a

to oppose Him in what He fashions,

وَلاَ وَلِيٌّ مِنَ ٱلذُّلِّ

wa la waliyyun min aldhdhulli

and Who does not have a helper to save Him from disgrace,

فَيُرْفِدَهُ فِيمَا صَنَعَ

fayurfidahu fima sana`a

to help Him in what He makes.

فَسُبْحَانَهُ سُبْحَانَهُ

fasubhanahu subhanahu

So, glory be to Him, glory be to Him.

لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَةٌ إِلاَّ ٱللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا وَتَفَطَّرَتَا

law kana fihima alihatun illa allahu lafasadata wa tafattarata

If there had been in them any gods except Allah, they would both have certainly been in a state of disorder and destruction.

سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْوَاحِدِ ٱلأَحَدِ ٱلصَّمَدِ

subhana allahi alwahidi al-ahadi alssamadi

All glory be to Allah, the One, the Only One, the Besought of all,

ٱلَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ

alladhi lam yalid wa lam yulad

Who begets not nor is He begotten,

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُواً أَحَدٌ

wa lam yakun lahu kufwan ahadun

and there is none like Him.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْداً يُعَادِلُ حَمْدَ مَلائِكَتِهِ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

alhamdu lillahi hamdan yu`adilu hamda mala'ikatihi almuqarrabina

All praise be to Allah—praise that is equal to the praise of His Favorite Angels,

وَ أَنْبِيَائِهِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

wa anbiya'ihi almursalina

and His missioned Prophets.

وَصَلَّىٰ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ خِيَرَتِهِ

wa salla allahu `ala khiyaratihi

May Allah send blessings to His Select,

مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ ٱلنَّبِيِّينَ

muhammadin khatami alnnabiyyina

Muhammad, the Seal of Prophets,

وَآلِهِ ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ وَسَلَّمَ

wa alihi alttayyibina alttahirina almukhlasina wa sallama

and upon his Household, the pure, immaculate, and well-chosen, and may He send benedictions upon them.

The Imam (peace be upon him) then besought Almighty Allah so earnestly that his eyes shed tears. He then said:

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْنِي أَخْشَاكَ كَأَنِّي أَرَاكَ

allahumma ij`alni akhshaka ka'anni araka

O Allah, (please) make me fear You as if I can see You.

وَأَسْعِدْنِي بِتَقْوَاكَ

wa as`idni bitaqwaka

Make happy by fearing You.

وَلاَ تُشْقِنِي بِمَعْصِيَتِكَ

wa la tushqini bima`siyatika

Do not make me unhappy by disobeying You.

وَخِرْ لِي فِي قَضَائِكَ

wa khir li fi qada'ika

Choose for me through Your decree.

وَبَارِكْ لِي فِي قَدَرِكَ

wa barik li fi qadarika

Bless me through Your determination,

حَتَّىٰ لا أُحِبَّ تَعْجِيلَ مَا أَخَّرْتَ

hatta la uhibba ta`jila ma akhkharta

so that I will not long for hastening that which You have delayed

وَلاَ تَأْخِيرَ مَا عَجَّلْتَ

wa la ta'khira ma `ajjalta

or delaying that which You would hasten.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْ غِنَايَ فِي نَفْسِي

allahumma ij`al ghinaya fi nafsi

O Allah, (please) make my richness in my conscience,

وَٱلْيَقِينَ فِي قَلْبِي

walyaqina fi qalbi

conviction in my hear,

وَٱلإِخْلاَصَ فِي عَمَلِي

wal-ikhlasa fi `amali

sincerity in my deeds,

وَٱلنُّوْرَ فِي بَصَرِي

walnnura fi basari

light in my sight,

وَٱلْبَصِيرَةَ فِي دِينِي

walbasirata fi dini

and insight in my religion.

وَمَتِّعْنِي بِجَوَارِحِي

wa matti`ni bijawarihi

Make me find enjoyment in my organs.

وَٱجْعَلْ سَمْعِي وَبَصَرِي ٱلْوَارِثَيْنِ مِنِّي

waj`al sam`i wa basari alwarithayni minni

Make my hearing and my sight sound until I am inherited.

وَٱنْصُرْنِي عَلَىٰ مَنْ ظَلَمَنِي

wansurni `ala man zalamani

Grant me victory over him who wrongs me,

وَأَرِنِي فِيهِ ثَأْرِي وَمَآرِبِي

wa arini fihi tha'ri wa ma'aribi

make me witness my avenge and objective in him,

وَأَقِرَّ بِذٰلِكَ عَيْنِي

wa aqirra bidhalika `ayni

and make it the delight of my eye.

اَللَّهُمَّ ٱكْشِفْ كُرْبَتِي

allahumma ikshif kurbati

O Allah, (please) relieve my agony,

وَٱسْتُرْ عَوْرَتِي

wastur `awrati

conceal my flaws,

وَٱغْفِرْ لِي خَطِيئَتِي

waghfir li khati'ati

forgive my sin,

وَٱخْسَأْ شَيْطَانِي

wakhsa' shaytani

drive away my devil from me,

وَفُكَّ رِهَانِي

wa fukka rihani

redeem my mortgage,

وَٱجْعَلْ لِي يَا إِلٰهِي ٱلدَّرَجَةَ ٱلْعُلْيَا

waj`al li ya ilahi alddarajata al`ulya

and decide for me, O my God, the supreme rank

فِي ٱلآخِرَةِ وَٱلأُولَىٰ

fi al-akhirati wal-ula

in the Hereafter and in the former (life).

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ كَمَا خَلَقْتَنِي

allahumma laka alhamdu kama khalaqtani

O Allah, all praise be to You for You have created me

فَجَعَلْتَنِي سَمِيعاً بَصِيراً

faja`altani sami`an basiran

and made me hear and see.

وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ كَمَا خَلَقْتَنِي

wa laka alhamdu kama khalaqtani

All praise be to You for you have created me

فَجَعَلْتَنِي خَلْقاً سَوِيّاً رَحْمَةً بِي

faja`altani khalqan sawiyyan rahmatan bi

and made my creation perfect, on account of Your having mercy on me,

وَقَدْ كُنْتَ عَنْ خَلْقِي غَنِيّاً

wa qad kunta `an khalqi ghaniyyan

and You could dispense with creating me.

رَبِّ بِمَا بَرَأْتَنِي فَعَدَّلْتَ فِطْرَتِي

rabbi bima bara'tani fa`addalta fitrati

O my Lord, as You gave rise to me and perfected my creation;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَنْشَأْتَنِي فَأَحْسَنْتَ صُورَتِي

rabbi bima ansha'tani fa'ahsanta surati

O my Lord, as You originated me and did well my form;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَحْسَنْتَ إِلَيَّ وَفِي نَفْسِي عَافَيْتَنِي

rabbi bima ahsanta ilayya wa fi nafsi `afaytani

O my Lord, as You conferred favors on me and granted me wellbeing in my self;

رَبِّ بِمَا كَلَأْتَنِي وَوَفَّقْتَنِي

rabbi bima kala'tani wa waffaqtani

O my Lord, as You saved me and led me to success;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ فَهَدَيْتَنِي

rabbi bima an`amta `alayya fahadaytani

O my Lord, as You bestowed favors on me and guided me;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَوْلَيْتَنِي وَمِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ أَعْطَيْتَنِي

rabbi bima awlaytani wa min kulli khayrin a`taytani

O my Lord, as You presented me and gave me from every good;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَطْعَمْتَنِي وَسَقَيْتَنِي

rabbi bima at`amtani wa saqaytani

O my Lord, as you fed me and watered me;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَغْنَيْتَنِي وَأَقْنَيْتَنِي

rabbi bima aghnaytani wa aqnaytani

O my Lord, as You enriched me and gave me to hold;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَعَنْتَنِي وَأَعْزَزْتَنِي

rabbi bima a`antani wa a`zaztani

O my Lord, as You helped me and braced me;

رَبِّ بِمَا أَلْبَسْتَنِي مِنْ سِتْرِكَ ٱلصَّافِي

rabbi bima albastani min sitrika alssafi

O my Lord, as you clothed me from Your pure cover

وَيَسَّرْتَ لِي مِنْ صُنْعِكَ ٱلْكَافِي

wa yassarta li min sun`ika alkafi

and made easy for me Your adequate making,

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

so, (please) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَأَعِنِّي عَلَىٰ بَوَائِقِ ٱلدُّهُورِ

wa a`inni `ala bawa'iqi aldduhuri

help me against calamities of ages

وَصُرُوفِ ٱللَّيَالِي وَٱلأَيَّامِ

wa surufi allayali wal-ayyami

and changes of nights and days,

وَنَجِّنِي مِنْ أَهْوَالِ ٱلدُّنْيَا

wa najjini min ahwali alddunya

rescue me from the horrors of this world

وَكُرُبَاتِ ٱلآخِرَةِ

wa kurubati al-akhirati

and the anguishes of the Hereafter,

وَٱكْفِنِي شَرَّ مَا يَعْمَلُ ٱلظَّالِمُونَ فِي ٱلأَرْضِ

wakfini sharra ma ya`malu alzzalimuna fi al-ardi

and save me from the evils of what the wrongdoers do in the earth.

اللَّهُمَّ مَا أَخَافُ فَٱكْفِنِي

allahumma ma akhafu fakfini

O Allah, as to what I anticipate, (please) save me (from it).

وَمَا أَحْذَرُ فَقِنِي

wa ma ahdharu faqini

As to what I watch out, (please) protect me (against it).

وَفِي نَفْسِي وَدِينِي فَٱحْرُسْنِي

wa fi nafsi wa dini fahrusni

Safeguard me in my soul and religion,

وَفِي سَفَرِي فَٱحْفَظْنِي

wa fi safari fahfazni

watch over me in my journeys,

وَفِي أَهْلِي وَمَالِي فَٱخْلُفْنِي

wa fi ahli wa mali fakhlufni

be in charge of my family members and properties during my absence,

وَفِي مَا رَزَقْتَنِي فَبَارِكْ لِي

wa fima razaqtani fabarik li

bless me in that which You provide as sustenance,

وَفِي نَفْسِي فَذَلِّلْنِي

wa fi nafsi fadhallilni

make me see myself as humble,

وَفِي أَعْيُنِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَعَظِّمْنِي

wa fi a`yuni alnnasi fa`azzimni

make people see me as great,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلإِنْسِ فَسَلِّمْنِي

wa min sharri aljinni wal-insi fasallimni

keep me sound from the evils of the Jinn and people,

وَبِذُنُوبِي فَلاَ تَفْضَحْنِي

wa bidhunubi fala tafdahni

do not disclose me because of my sins,

وَبِسَرِيرَتِي فَلاَ تُخْزِنِي

wa bisarirati fala tukhzini

do not disgrace me because of the secret side (of myself),

وَبِعَمَلِي فَلاَ تَبْتَلِنِي

wa bi`amali fala tabtalini

do not try me in my deeds,

وَنِعَمَكَ فَلاَ تَسْلُبْنِي

wa ni`amaka fala taslubni

do not deprive me of Your bounties,

وَإِلَىٰ غَيْرِكَ فَلاَ تَكِلْنِي

wa ila ghayrika fala takilni

and do not refer me to anyone other than You.

إِلٰهِي إِلَىٰ مَنْ تَكِلُنِي

ilahi ila man takiluni

To whom do You entrust me?

إِلَىٰ قَرِيبٍ فَيَقْطَعُنِي

ila qaribin fayaqta`uni

To a relative, and he will rupture my relation with him!

أَمْ إِلَىٰ بَعِيدٍ فَيَتَجَهَّمُنِي

am ila ba`idin fayatajahhamuni

Or to a strange, and he will glower at me!

أَمْ إِلَىٰ ٱلْمُسْتَضْعِفِينَ لِي

am ila almustad`ifina li

Or to those who deem me weak!

وَأَنْتَ رَبِّي وَمَلِيكُ أَمْرِي

wa anta rabbi wa maliku amri

While You are my Lord and the master of my affairs!

أَشْكُو إِلَيْكَ غُرْبَتِي وَبُعْدَ دَارِي

ashku ilayka ghurbati wa bu`da dari

I complain to You about my alienation and my foreignness

وَهَوَانِي عَلَىٰ مَنْ مَلَّكْتَهُ أَمْرِي

wa hawani `ala man mallaktahu amri

and my ignominy in the eyes of him whom You have given domination over me.

إِلٰهِي فَلاَ تُحْلِلْ عَلَيَّ غَضَبَكَ

ilahi fala tuhlil `alayya ghadabaka

So, O my God, do not make Your wrath come upon me.

فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ غَضِبْتَ عَلَيَّ فَلاَ أُبَالِي سِوَاكَ

fa'in lam takun ghadibta `alayya fala ubali siwaka

If You are not wrathful with me, then I care for nothing save You.

سُبْحَانَكَ غَيْرَ أَنَّ عَافِيَتَكَ أَوْسَعُ لِي

subhanaka ghayra anna `afiyataka awsa`u li

All glory be to You; yet, Your granting me wellbeing is more favorable for me.

فَأَسْأَلُكَ يَا رَبِّ بِنُورِ وَجْهِكَ

fa'as'aluka ya rabbi binuri wajhika

So, I beseech You, O my Lord, in the name of the Light of Your Face

ٱلَّذِي أَشْرَقَتْ لَهُ ٱلأَرْضُ وَٱلسَّمَاوَاتُ

alladhi ashraqat lahu al-ardu walssamawatu

to which the earth and the heavens have shone,

وَكُشِفَتْ بِهِ ٱلظُّلُمَاتُ

wa kushifat bihi alzzulumatu

by which all darkness has been uncovered,

وَصَلُحَ بِهِ أَمْرُ ٱلأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلآخِرِينَ

wa saluha bihi amru al-awwalina wal-akhirina

and by which the affairs of the past and the coming generations are made right,

أَنْ لاَ تُمِيتَنِي عَلَىٰ غَضَبِكَ

an la tumitani `ala ghadabika

(please) do not cause me to die while You are wrathful with me

وَلاَ تُنْزِلْ بِي سَخَطَكَ

wa la tunzil bi sakhataka

and do not inflict on me Your rage.

لَكَ ٱلْعُتْبَىٰ لَكَ ٱلْعُتْبَىٰ

laka al`utba laka al`utba

You have the right to scold; You have the right to scold;

حَتَّىٰ تَرْضَىٰ قَبْلَ ذٰلِكَ

hatta tarda qabla dhalika

until You are pleased (with me) before that.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

la ilaha illa anta

There is no god save You;

رَبُّ ٱلْبَلَدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ

rabbu albaladi alharami

Lord of the Holy City,

وَٱلْمَشْعَرِ ٱلْحَرَامِ

walmash`ari alharami

the Holy Monument,

وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْعَتِيقِ

walbayti al`atiqi

and the Ancient House

ٱلَّذِي أَحْلَلْتَهُ ٱلْبَرَكَةَ

alladhi ahlaltahu albarakata

that You have encompassed with blessing

وَجَعَلْتَهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمْناً

wa ja`altahu lilnnasi amnan

and made security for people.

يَا مَنْ عَفَا عَنْ عَظِيمِ ٱلذُّنُوبِ بِحِلْمِهِ

ya man `afa `an `azimi aldhdhunubi bihilmihi

O He Who pardoned the grand sins by His forbearance!

يَا مَنْ أَسْبَغَ ٱلنَّعْمَاءَ بِفَضْلِهِ

ya man asbagha alnna`ma'a bifadlihi

O He Who bestowed bounties by His favoring!

يَا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ ٱلْجَزِيلَ بِكَرَمِهِ

ya man a`ta aljazila bikaramihi

O He Who gave in abundance by His generosity!

يَا عُدَّتِي فِي شِدَّتِي

ya `uddati fi shiddati

O my means in my hardship!

يَا صَاحِبِي فِي وَحْدَتِي

ya sahibi fi wahdati

O my companion in my loneliness!

يَا غِيَاثِي فِي كُرْبَتِي

ya ghiyathi fi kurbati

O my relief in my agony!

يَا وَلِيِّي فِي نِعْمَتِي

ya waliyyi fi ni`mati

O my Benefactor in my amenities!

يَا إِلٰهِي وَإِلٰهَ آبَائِي

ya ilahi wa ilaha aba'i

O my God and the God of my forefathers:

إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ

ibrahima wa isma`ila

Abraham, Ishmael,

وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ

wa ishaqa wa ya`quba

Isaac, and Jacob;

وَرَبَّ جَبْرَائِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ وَإِسْرَافِيلَ

wa rabba jabra'ila wa mika'ila wa israfila

the Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and Seraph;

وَرَبَّ مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ ٱلنَّبِيِّينَ

wa rabba muhammadin khatami alnnabiyyina

the Lord of Muhammad, the Seal of Prophets,

وَآلِهِ ٱلْمُنْتَجَبِينَ

wa alihi almuntajabina

and his elite Household;

وَمُنْزِلَ ٱلتَّوْرَاةِ وَٱلإِنْجِيلِ

wa munzila alttawrati wal-injili

the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel,

وَٱلزَّبُورِ وَٱلْفُرْقَانِ

walzzaburi walfurqani

the Psalms, and the Furqan;

وَمُنَزِّلَ كٰهٰيٰعصٰ وَطٰهٰ وَيٰس

wa munazzila kaf-ha-ya-`ain-sad wa ta-ha wa ya-sin

the Revealer of kaf-ha-ya-`ayn-sad and ta-ha, ya-sin,

وَٱلْقُرْآنِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ

walqur'ani alhakimi

and the Qur'an, full of wisdom.

أَنْتَ كَهْفِي حِينَ تُعْيِينِي ٱلْمَذَاهِبُ فِي سَعَتِهَا

anta kahfi hina tu`yini almadhahibu fi sa`atiha

You are my haven when the wide courses fail to carry me

وَتَضِيقُ بِيَ ٱلأَرْضُ بِرُحْبِهَا

wa tadiqu biya al-ardu biruhbiha

and when the earth, despite its width, become too narrow to bear me.

وَلَوْلاَ رَحْمَتُكَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْهَالِكِينَ

wa lawla rahmatuka lakuntu min alhalikina

Without Your mercy, I would have been of those perishing.

وَأَنْتَ مُقِيلُ عَثْرَتِي

wa anta muqilu `athrati

You overlook my slips;

وَلَوْلاَ سَتْرُكَ إِيَّايَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْمَفْضُوحِينَ

wa lawla satruka iyyaya lakuntu min almafduhina

and without Your covering me, I would have been of those exposed.

وَأَنْتَ مُؤَيِّدِي بِٱلنَّصْرِ عَلَىٰ أَعْدَائِي

wa anta mu'ayyidi bilnnasri `ala a`da'i

You aid me with Your support against my enemies;

وَلَوْلاَ نَصْرُكَ إِيَّايَ لَكُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْمَغْلُوبِينَ

wa lawla nasruka iyyaya lakuntu min almaghlubina

and without Your support, I would have been of those overwhelmed.

يَا مَنْ خَصَّ نَفْسَهُ بِٱلسُّمُوِّ وَٱلرِّفْعَةِ

ya man khassa nafsahu bilssumuwwi walrrif`ati

O He Who gives Himself exclusively superiority and highness;

فَأَوْلِيَاؤُهُ بِعِزِّهِ يَعْتَزُّونَ

fa'awliya'uhu bi`izzihi ya`tazzuna

so, His friends pride themselves on account of His pride.

يَا مَنْ جَعَلَتْ لَهُ ٱلْمُلُوكُ نِيرَ ٱلْمَذَلَّةِ عَلَىٰ أَعْنَاقِهِمْ

ya man ja`alat lahu almuluku nira almadhallati `ala a`naqihim

O He for Whom the kings put the yoke of humiliation on their necks;

فَهُمْ مِنْ سَطَوَاتِهِ خَائِفُونَ

fahum min satawatihi kha'ifuna

for they are fearful of His authority.

يَعْلَمُ خَائِنَةَ ٱلأَعْيُنِ وَمَا تُخْفِي ٱلصُّدُورُ

ya`lamu kha'inata al'a`yuni wa ma tukhfi alssuduru

He knows the stealthy looks of eyes and that which the breasts conceal

وَغَيْبَ مَا تَأْتِي بِهِ ٱلأَزْمِنَةُ وَٱلدُّهُورُ

wa ghayba ma ta'ti bihi al'azminatu waldduhuru

and the future of the times and ages.

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَعْلَمُ كَيْفَ هُوَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

ya man la ya`lamu kayfa huwa illa huwa

O He save Whom none knows how He is!

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَعْلَمُ مَا هُوَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

ya man la ya`lamu ma huwa illa huwa

O He save Whom none knows what He is!

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَعْلَمُهُ إِلاَّ هُوَ

ya man la ya`lamu ma ya`lamuhu illa huwa

O He save Whom none knows what He knows!

يَا مَنْ كَبَسَ ٱلأَرْضَ عَلَىٰ ٱلْمَاءِ

ya man kabasa al-arda `ala alma'i

O He Who surfaced the earth over the water

وَسَدَّ ٱلْهَوَاءَ بِٱلسَّمَاءِ

wa sadda alhawa'a bilssama'i

and blocked the air with the heavens!

يَا مَنْ لَهُ أَكْرَمُ ٱلأَسْمَاءِ

ya man lahu akramu al-asma'i

O He Who has the noblest of names!

يَا ذَا ٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ٱلَّذِي لاَ يَنْقَطِعُ أَبَداً

ya dhalma`rufi alladhi la yanqati`u abadan

O Owner of favor that is never interrupted!

يَا مُقَيِّضَ ٱلرَّكْبِ لِيُوسُفَ فِي ٱلْبَلَدِ ٱلْقَفْرِ

ya muqayyida alrrakbi liyusufa fi albaladi alqafri

O He Who directed the caravan towards Joseph in the wasteland,

وَمُخْرِجَهُ مِنَ ٱلْجُبِّ

wa mukhrijahu min aljubbi

took him out of the pit,

وَجَاعِلَهُ بَعْدَ ٱلْعُبُودِيَّةِ مَلِكاً

wa ja`ilahu ba`da al`ubudiyyati malikan

and made him king after enslavement!

يَا رَادَّهُ عَلَىٰ يَعْقُوبَ

ya raddahu `ala ya`quba

O He Who had returned him to Jacob

بَعْدَ أَنِ ٱبْيَضَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ مِنَ ٱلْحُزْنِ فَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

ba`da an ibyaddat `aynahu min alhuzni fahuwa kazimun

after his eyes became white on account of the grief, and he was a repressor of grief!

يَا كَاشِفَ ٱلضُّرِّ وَٱلْبَلْوَىٰ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ

ya kashifa alddurri walbalwa `an ayyuba

O He Who removed the distress and misfortune from Job

وَمُمْسِكَ يَدَيْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ ذَبْحِ ٱبْنِهِ

wa mumsika yaday ibrahima `an dhabhi ibnihi

and withheld the hands of Abraham from slaying his son

بَعْدَ كِبَرِ سِنِّهِ وَفَنَاءِ عُمُرِهِ

ba`da kibari sinnihi wa fana'i `umurihi

after his old age and termination of his lifetime!

يَا مَنِ ٱسْتَجَابَ لِزَكَرِيَّا

ya man istajaba lizakariyya

O He Who responded to Zachariah

فَوَهَبَ لَهُ يَحْيَىٰ

fawahaba lahu yahya

and granted him John

وَلَمْ يَدَعْهُ فَرْداً وَحِيداً

wa lam yada`hu fardan wahidan

without leaving him alone and lonely!

يَا مَنْ أَخْرَجَ يُونُسَ مِنْ بَطْنِ ٱلْحُوتِ

ya man akhraja yunusa min batni alhuti

O He Who took Jonah out of the belly of the big fish!

يَا مَنْ فَلَقَ ٱلْبَحْرَ لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ

ya man falaqa albahra libani isra'ila

O He Who cleft the sea to the children of Israel;

فَأَنْجَاهُمْ وَجَعَلَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجُنُودَهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُغْرَقِينَ

fa'anjahum wa ja`ala fir`awna wa junudahu min almughraqina

so, He saved them and made Pharaoh and his army of the drowned!

يَا مَنْ أَرْسَلَ ٱلرِّيَاحَ مُبَشِّرَاتٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَحْمَتِهِ

ya man arsala alrriyaha mubashshiratin bayna yaday rahmatihi

O He Who sent the winds, bearing good news, before His mercy!

يَا مَنْ لَمْ يَعْجَلْ عَلَىٰ مَنْ عَصَاهُ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ

ya man lam ya`jal `ala man `asahu min khalqihi

O He Who has no hastiness on His creatures who disobey Him!

يَا مَنِ ٱسْتَنْقَذَ ٱلسَّحَرَةَ مِنْ بَعْدِ طُولِ ٱلْجُحُودِ

ya man istanqadha alssaharata min ba`di tuli aljuhudi

O He Who saved the sorcerers after their long denial!

وَقَدْ غَدَوْٱ فِي نِعْمَتِهِ

wa qad ghadaw fi ni`matihi

and after they had lived in His bounty,

يَأْكُلُونَ رِزْقَهُ وَيَعْبُدُونَ غَيْرَهُ

ya'kuluna rizqahu wa ya`buduna ghayrahu

eating from His sustenance, but serving someone else other than Him,

وَقَدْ حَادُّوهُ وَنَادُّوهُ

wa qad hadduhu wa nadduhu

acting in opposition to Him, antagonizing Him,

وَكَذَّبُوٱ رُسُلَهُ

wa kadhdhabu rusulahu

and denying His messengers.

يَا اللَّهُ يَا اللَّهُ يَا بَدِيءُ

ya allahu ya allahu ya badi'u

O Allah! O Allah! O Originator!

يَا بَدِيعاً لاَ نِدَّ لَكَ

ya badi`an la nidda laka

O Fashioner! There is no equal to You.

يَا دَائِماً لاَ نَفَادَ لَكَ

ya da'iman la nafada laka

O Everlasting! There is no end to You.

يَا حَيّاً حِينَ لاَ حَيُّ

ya hayyan hina la hayyu

O Ever-living when there was no living thing!

يَا مُحْيِيَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ

ya muhyiya almawta

O Raiser from the dead!

يَا مَنْ هُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ

ya man huwa qa'imun `ala kulli nafsin bima kasabat

O He Who watches every soul as to what it earns!

يَا مَنْ قَلَّ لَهُ شُكْرِي فَلَمْ يَحْرِمْنِي

ya man qalla lahu shukri falam yahrimni

O He to Whom I rarely turned thankful; yet, He did not deprive me,

وَعَظُمَتْ خَطِيئَتِي فَلَمْ يَفْضَحْنِي

wa `azumat khati'ati falam yafdahni

against Whom I committed grand sins; yet, He did not disclose me,

وَرَآنِي عَلَىٰ ٱلْمَعَاصِي فَلَمْ يَشْهَرْنِي

wa ra'ani `ala alma`asi falam yashharni

and Who saw me insisting on disobeying Him; yet, He did not divulge me.

يَا مَنْ حَفِظَنِي فِي صِغَرِي

ya man hafizani fi sighari

O He Who safeguarded me in my early life!

يَا مَنْ رَزَقَنِي فِي كِبَرِي

ya man razaqani fi kibari

O He Who provided me with sustenance in my old age!

يَا مَنْ أَيَادِيهِ عِنْدِي لاَ تُحْصَىٰ

ya man ayadihi `indi la tuhsa

O He Whose favors to me are innumerable

وَنِعَمُهُ لاَ تُجَازَىٰ

wa ni`amuhu la tujaza

and Whose bounties cannot be compensated!

يَا مَنْ عَارَضَنِي بِٱلْخَيْرِ وَٱلإِحْسَانِ

ya man `aradani bilkhayri wal-ihsani

O He Who receives me with good turn and kindness

وَعَارَضْتُهُ بِٱلإِسَاءَةِ وَٱلْعِصْيَانِ

wa `aradtuhu bil-isa'ati wal`isyani

but I meet Him with offense and disobedience!

يَا مَنْ هَدَانِي لِلإِيـمَانِ

ya man hadani lil'imani

O He Who had guided me to faith

مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ أَعْرِفَ شُكْرَ ٱلاِﹾمْتِنَانِ

min qabli an a`rifa shukra al'imtinani

before I learnt showing gratitude!

يَا مَنْ دَعَوْتُهُ مَرِيضاً فَشَفَانِي

ya man da`awtuhu maridan fashafani

O He Whom I besought in sickness; so, He restored me to health,

وَعُرْيَاناً فَكَسَانِي

wa `uryanan fakasani

in bareness; so, He covered me,

وَجَائِعاً فَأَشْبَعَنِي

wa ja'i`an fa'ashba`ani

in hunger; so, He satiated me,

وَعَطْشَاناً فَأَرْوَانِي

wa `atshanan fa'arwani

in thirst; so, He quenched my thirst,

وَذَلِيلاً فَأَعَزَّنِي

wa dhalilan fa'a`azzani

in humility; so, He granted me dignity,

وَجَاهِلاً فَعَرَّفَنِي

wa jahilan fa`arrafani

in ignorance; so, He taught me,

وَوَحِيداً فَكَثَّرَنِي

wa wahidan fakaththarani

in loneliness; so, He increased my number,

وَغَائِباً فَرَدَّنِي

wa gha'iban faraddani

in foreignness absence; so, He returned me home,

وَمُقِلاًّ فَأَغْنَانِي

wa muqillan fa'aghnani

in poverty; so, He enriched me,

وَمُنْتَصِراً فَنَصَرَنِي

wa muntasiran fanasarani

in victory-seeking; so, He supported me,

وَغَنِيّاً فَلَمْ يَسْلُبْنِي

wa ghaniyyan falam yaslubni

and in richness; so, He did not deprive me.

وَأَمْسَكْتُ عَنْ جَمِيعِ ذٰلِكَ فَٱبْتَدَأَنِي

wa amsaktu `an jami`i dhalika fabtada'ani

When I withheld praying Him in all these situation, He took the initiative.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ وَٱلشُّكْرُ

falaka alhamdu walshshukru

So, all praise and thanks be to You;

يَا مَنْ أَقَالَ عَثْرَتِي

ya man aqala `athrati

O He Who overlooked my slips,

وَنَفَّسَ كُرْبَتِي

wa naffasa kurbati

relieved my agonies,

وَأَجَابَ دَعْوَتِي

wa ajaba da`wati

responded to my prayer,

وَسَتَرَ عَوْرَتِي

wa satara `awrati

covered my flaws,

وَغَفَرَ ذُنُوبِي

wa ghafara dhunubi

forgave my sins,

وَبَلَّغَنِي طَلِبَتِي

wa ballaghani talibati

settled my need,

وَنَصَرَنِي عَلَىٰ عَدُوِّي

wa nasarani `ala `aduwwi

and supported me against my enemy.

وَإِنْ أَعُدَّ نِعَمَكَ وَمِنَنَكَ

wa in a`udda ni`amaka wa minanaka

If I count Your bounties, favors,

وَكَرَائِمَ مِنَحِكَ لاَ أُحْصِيهَا

wa kara'ima minahika la uhsiha

and liberal gifts, I will never number them.

يَا مَوْلاَيَ أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي مَنَنْتَ

ya mawlaya anta alladhi mananta

O my Master! It is You Who bestowed (upon me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَنْعَمْتَ

anta alladhi an`amta

It is You Who conferred favors (upon me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَحْسَنْتَ

anta alladhi ahsanta

It is You Who did good (to me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَجْمَلْتَ

anta alladhi ajmalta

It is You Who treated (me) excellently.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَفْضَلْتَ

anta alladhi afdalta

It is You Who favored (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَكْمَلْتَ

anta alladhi akmalta

It is You Who perfected (Your blessings upon me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي رَزَقْتَ

anta alladhi razaqta

It is You Who provided (me) with sustenance.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي وَفَّقْتَ

anta alladhi waffaqta

It is You Who led (me) to success.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَعْطَيْتَ

anta alladhi a`tayta

It is You Who gave (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَغْنَيْتَ

anta alladhi aghnayta

It is You Who enriched (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَقْنَيْتَ

anta alladhi aqnayta

It is You Who gave (me) to hold.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي آوَيْتَ

anta alladhi awayta

It is You Who gave (me) shelter.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي كَفَيْتَ

anta alladhi kafayta

It is You Who saved (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي هَدَيْتَ

anta alladhi hadayta

It is You Who guided (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي عَصَمْتَ

anta alladhi `asamta

It is You Who protected (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي سَتَرْتَ

anta alladhi satarta

It is You Who covered my faults.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي غَفَرْتَ

anta alladhi ghafarta

It is You Who forgave (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَقَلْتَ

anta alladhi aqalta

It is You Who overlooked my sins.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي مَكَّنْتَ

anta alladhi makkanta

It is You Who established (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَعْزَزْتَ

anta alladhi a`zazta

It is You Who consolidated (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَعَنْتَ

anta alladhi a`anta

It is You Who helped (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي عَضَدْتَ

anta alladhi `adadta

It is You Who backed (me) up.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَيَّدْتَ

anta alladhi ayyadta

It is You Who aided (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي نَصَرْتَ

anta alladhi nasarta

It is You Who supported (me).

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي شَفَيْتَ

anta alladhi shafayta

It is You Who restored (me) to health.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي عَافَيْتَ

anta alladhi `afayta

It is You Who granted (me) wellbeing.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَكْرَمْتَ

anta alladhi akramta

It is You Who honored (me).

تَبَارَكْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ

tabarakta wa ta`alayta

Blessed be You and Exalted be You.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ دَائِماً

falaka alhamdu da'iman

So, all praise be to You permanently,

وَلَكَ ٱلشُّكْرُ وَاصِباً أَبَداً

wa laka alshshukru wasiban abadan

and all thanks be to You enduringly and eternally.

ثُمَّ أَنَا يَا إِلٰهِيَ ٱلْمُعْتَرِفُ بِذُنُوبِي

thumma ana ya ilhi almu`tarifu bidhunubi

However, it is I, O my God, who confess of my sins;

فَٱغْفِرْهَا لِي

faghfirha li

so, (please) forgive them to me.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي أَسَأْتُ

ana alladhi asa'tu

It is I who did badly.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي أَخْطَأْتُ

ana alladhi akhta'tu

It is I who did wrong.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي هَمَمْتُ

ana alladhi hamamtu

It is I who had evil intention.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي جَهِلْتُ

ana alladhi jahiltu

It is I who acted impolitely.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي غَفَلْتُ

ana alladhi ghafaltu

It is I who was inadvertent.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي سَهَوْتُ

ana alladhi sahawtu

It is I who was inattentive.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي ٱعْتَمَدْتُ

ana alladhi i`tamadtu

It is I who leaned (on something other than You).

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي تَعَمَّدْتُ

ana alladhi ta`ammadtu

It is I who did wrong deliberately.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي وَعَدْتُ

ana alladhi wa`adtu

It is I who promised.

وَأَنَا ٱلَّذِي أَخْلَفْتُ

wa ana alladhi akhlaftu

It is I who failed to fulfill it.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي نَكَثْتُ

ana alladhi nakathtu

It is I who breached.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي أَقْرَرْتُ

ana alladhi aqrartu

It is I who confessed.

أَنَا ٱلَّذِي ٱعْتَرَفْتُ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ وَعِنْدِي

ana alladhi i`taraftu bini`matika `alayya wa `indi

It is I who testified to Your favors upon and with me,

وَأَبُوءُ بِذُنُوبِي فَٱغْفِرْهَا لِي

wa abu'u bidhunubi faghfirha li

and I now acknowledge of my sins; so, (please) forgive them to me.

يَا مَنْ لاَ تَضُرُّهُ ذُنُوبُ عِبَادِهِ

ya man la tadurruhi dhunubu `ibadihi

O He Who is not injured by the sins of His servants,

وَهُوَ ٱلْغَنِيُّ عَنْ طَاعَتِهِمْ

wa huwa alghaniyyu `an ta`atihim

and Who can surely do without their obedience,

وَٱلْمُوَفِّقُ مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحاً مِنْهُمْ

walmuwaffiqu man `amila salihan minhum

and Who inspires those of them to do good,

بِمَعُونَتِهِ وَرَحْمَتِهِ

bima`unatihi wa rahmatihi

out of His aid and mercy.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ إِلٰهِي وَسَيِّدِي

falaka alhamdu ilahi wa sayyidi

So, all praise be to You, O my God and my Master.

إِلٰهِي أَمَرْتَنِي فَعَصَيْتُكَ

ilahi amartani fa`asaytuka

O my God: You ordered me, but I disobeyed You.

وَنَهَيْتَنِي فَٱرْتَكَبْتُ نَهْيَكَ

wa nahaytani fartakabtu nahyaka

You warned me, but I violated Your warning.

فَأَصْبَحْتُ لاَ ذَا بَرَاءَةٍ لِي فَأَعْتَذِرُ

fa'asbahtu la dha bara'atin li fa'a`tadhiru

So, I am now lacking neither justification to apologize

وَلاَ ذَا قُوَّةٍ فَأَنْتَصِرُ

wa la dha quwwatin fa'antasiru

nor power to support myself.

فَبِأَيِّ شَيْء أَسْتَقْبِلُكَ يَا مَوْلايَ

fabi'ayyi shay'in astaqbiluka ya mawlaya

By which thing can I now meet You, O my Master?

أَبِسَمْعِي أَمْ بِبَصَرِي

abisam`i am bibasari

Is it by my hearing, my sight,

أَمْ بِلِسَانِي أَمْ بِيَدِي أَمْ بِرِجْلِي

am bilisani am biyadi am birijli

my tongue, my hand, or my foot?

أَلَيْسَ كُلُّهَا نِعَمَكَ عِنْدِي

alaysa kulluha ni`amaka `indi

Are all these not Your bounties on me

وَبِكُلِّهَا عَصَيْتُكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ

wa bikulliha `asaytuka ya mawlaya

and with all of them I have disobeyed You, O my Master?

فَلَكَ ٱلْحُجَّةُ وَٱلسَّبِيلُ عَلَيَّ

falaka alhujjatu walssabilu `alayya

You have absolute argument and claim against me.

يَا مَنْ سَتَرَنِي مِنَ ٱلآبَاءِ وَٱلأُمَّهَاتِ أَنْ يَزْجُرُونِي

ya man satarani min al'aba'i wal'ummahati an yazjuruni

O He Who covered me from fathers and mothers lest they might have driven me away,

وَمِنَ ٱلْعَشَائِرِ وَٱلإِخْوَانِ أَنْ يُعَيِّرُونِي

wa min al`asha'iri wal'ikhwani an yu`ayyiruni

from relatives and friends lest they might have gibed me,

وَمِنَ ٱلسَّلاَطِينِ أَنْ يُعَاقِبُونِي

wa min alssalatini an yu`aqibuni

and from rulers lest they might have punished me.

وَلَوِ ٱطَّلَعُوٱ يَا مَوْلاَيَ

wa law ittala`u ya mawlaya

Had they, O my Master, seen

عَلَىٰ مَا ٱطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِ مِنِّي

`ala ma ittala`ta `alayhi minni

that which You knew about me,

إِذاً مَا أَنْظَرُونِي

idhan ma anzaruni

they would certainly have granted me no respite

وَلَرَفَضُونِي وَقَطَعُونِي

wa larafaduni wa qata`uni

and they would have rejected and parted company with me.

فَهَا أَنَا ذَا يَا إِلٰهِي

faha anadha ya ilahi

Here I am now, O my God,

بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ يَا سَيِّدِي

bayna yadayka ya sayyidi

between Your hands, O my Master,

خَاضِعٌ ذَلِيلٌ

khadi`un dhalilun

submissive, humble,

حَصِيرٌ حَقِيرٌ

hasirun haqirun

helpless, and worthless.

لاَ ذُو بَرَاءَةٍ فَأَعْتَذِرُ

la dhu bara'atin fa'a`tadhiru

I am now lacking neither justification to apologize

وَلاَ ذُو قُوَّةٍ فَأَنْتَصِرُ

wa la dhu quwwatin fa'antasiru

nor power to support myself,

وَلاَ حُجَّةٍ فَأَحْتَجُّ بِهَا

wa la hujjatin fa'ahtajju biha

nor excuse to advance as a plea,

وَلاَ قَائِلٌ لَمْ أَجْتَرِحْ وَلَمْ أَعْمَلْ سُوءاً

wa la qa'ilun lam ajtarih wa lam a`mal su'an

nor can I claim not committing and not acting badly.

وَمَا عَسَىٰ ٱلْجُحُودُ وَلَوْ جَحَدْتُ يَا مَوْلاَيَ يَنْفَعُنِي

wa ma `asa aljuhudu wa law jahadtu ya mawlaya yanfa`uni

How can denial, if I deny, O my Master, serve me?

كَيْفَ وَأَنَّىٰ ذٰلِكَ

kayfa wa anna dhalika

How and in what manner can I do so,

وَجَوَارِحِي كُلُّهَا شَاهِدَةٌ عَلَيَّ بِمَا قَدْ عَمِلْتُ

wa jawarihi kulliha shahidatun `alayya bima qad `amiltu

while all my organs are witnesses for what I did?

وَعَلِمْتُ يَقِيناً غَيْرَ ذِي شَكٍّ

wa `alimtu yaqinan ghayra dhi shakkin

I know for sure and without doubt

أَنَّكَ سَائِلِي مِنْ عَظَائِمِ ٱلأُمُورِ

annaka sa'ili min `aza'imi al'umuri

that You will interrogate me about these grand matter,

وَأَنَّكَ ٱلْحَكَمُ ٱلْعَدْلُ الَّذِي لاَ تَجُورُ

wa annaka alhakamu al`adlu alladhi la tajuru

You are the Just Judge Who never wrongs,

وَعَدْلُكَ مُهْلِكِي

wa `adluka muhliki

Your justice will ruin me,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَدْلِكَ مَهْرَبِي

wa min kulli `adlika mahrabi

and from Your all justice I flee.

فَإِنْ تُعَذِّبْنِي يَا إِلٰهِي

fa'in tu`adhdhibni ya ilahi

If You, O my God, chastise me,

فَبِذُنُوبِي بَعْدَ حُجَّتِكَ عَلَيَّ

fabidhunubi ba`da hujjatika `alayya

then it is because of my sins after Your claim against me;

وَإِنْ تَعْفُ عَنِّي

wa in ta`fu `anni

and if You pardon me,

فَبِحِلْمِكَ وَجُودِكَ وَكَرَمِكَ

fabihilmika wa judika wa karamika

then it is on account of Your forbearance, magnanimity, and generosity.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّالِمِينَ

inni kuntu min alzzalimina

I have been of the wrongdoers.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ

inni kuntu min almustaghfirina

I have been of those seeking forgiveness.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُوَحِّدِينَ

inni kuntu min almuwahhidina

I have been of those professing Your Oneness.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْخَائِفِينَ

inni kuntu min alkha'ifina

I have been of the fearful.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْوَجِلِينَ

inni kuntu min alwajilina

I have been of the apprehensive.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلرَّاجِينَ

inni kuntu min alrrajina

I have been of those hoping (for You).

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلرَّاغِبِينَ

inni kuntu min alrraghibina

I have been of those desiring (for You).

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُهَلِّلِينَ

inni kuntu min almuhallilina

I have been of those professing that there is no god save You.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلسَّائِلِينَ

inni kuntu min alssa'ilina

I have been of those beseeching (You).

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ

inni kuntu min almusabbihina

I have been of those glorifying (You).

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَبِّرِينَ

inni kuntu min almukabbirina

I have been of those professing that You are the Greatest.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka

There is no god save You. All glory be to You.

رَبِّي وَرَبُّ آبَائِيَ ٱلأَوَّلِينَ

rabbi wa rabbu aba'iya al-awwalina

You are my Lord and the Lord of my bygone fathers.

اللَّهُمَّ هٰذَا ثَنَائِي عَلَيْكَ مُمَجِّداً

allahumma hadha thana'i `alayka mumajjidan

O Allah, this is my praise for You, celebrating Your glory,

وَإِخْلا!صِي لِذِكْرِكَ مُوَحِّداً

wa ikhlasi lidhikrika muwahhidan

my sincerity to mention You and profess Your Oneness,

وَإِقْرَارِي بِآلاَئِكَ مُعَدِّداً

wa iqrari bi'ala'ika mu`addidan

and my acknowledgment of Your bounties, counting them,

وَإِنْ كُنْتُ مُقِرّاً أَنِّي لَمْ أُحْصِهَا

wa in kuntu muqirran anni lam uhsiha

although I confess that I could never count them

لِكَثْرَتِهَا وَسُبُوغِهَا

likathratiha wa subughiha

for they are innumerable, abundant,

وَتَظَاهُرِهَا وَتَقَادُمِهَا إِلَىٰ حَادِثٍ مَا

wa tazahuriha wa taqadumiha ila hadithin ma

continuous, and prior to a certain event.

لَمْ تَزَلْ تَتَعَهَّدُنِي بِهِ مَعَهَا

lam tazal tata`ahhaduni bihi ma`aha

You have been conferring upon me with these bounties

مُنْذُ خَلَقْتَنِي وَبَرَأْتَنِي

mundhu khalaqtani wa bara'tani

since You created and originated me

مِنْ أَوَّلِ ٱلْعُمْرِ

min awwali al`umri

from the beginning of my age

مِنَ ٱلإِغْنَاءِ مِنَ ٱلْفَقْرِ

min al'ighna'i min alfaqri

through meeting my poverty

وَكَشْفِ ٱلضُّرِّ

wa kashfi alddurri

relieving me from harm,

وَتَسْبِيبِ ٱلْيُسْرِ

wa tasbibi alyusri

giving me means of easiness,

وَدَفْعِ ٱلْعُسْرِ

wa daf`i al`usri

repelling misery from me,

وَتَفْرِيجِ ٱلْكَرْبِ

wa tafriji alkarbi

alleviating my agonies,

وَٱلْعَافِيَةِ فِي ٱلْبَدَنِ

wal`afiyati fi albadani

granting me wellbeing in my body,

وَٱلسَّلاَمَةِ فِي ٱلدِّينِ

walssalamati fi alddini

and furnishing me with sound faith.

وَلَوْ رَفَدَنِي عَلَىٰ قَدْرِ ذِكْرِ نِعْمَتِكَ جَمِيعُ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

wa law rafadani `ala qadri dhikri ni`matika jami`u al`alamina

If all creatures assist me to be able to mention Your bounties,

مِنَ ٱلأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلآخِرِينَ

min al-awwalina wal-akhirina

including the past and the coming generations,

مَا قَدَرْتُ وَلاَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ ذٰلِكَ

ma qadartu wa la hum `ala dhalika

neither I nor will they be able to do that.

تَقَدَّسْتَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ

taqaddasta wa ta`alayta

Holy be You and Exalted be You;

مِنْ رَبٍّ كَرِيمٍ عَظِيمٍ رَحِيمٍ

min rabbin karimin `azimin rahimin

You are All-generous, All-great, and All-merciful Sustainer.

لاَ تُحْصَىٰ آلاَؤُكَ

la tuhsa ala'uka

Your bounties are innumerable,

وَلاَ يُبْلَغُ ثَنَاؤُكَ

wa la yublaghu thana'uka

(proper) praise of You is unreachable,

وَلاَ تُكَافَىٰ نَعْمَاؤُكَ

wa la tukafa'u na`ma'uka

and Your graces cannot be rewarded.

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

(Please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَأَتْمِمْ عَلَيْنَا نِعَمَكَ

wa atmim `alayna ni`amaka

perfect Your bounties for us,

وَأَسْعِدْنَا بِطَاعَتِكَ

wa as`idna bita`atika

and make us happy by obeying You.

سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

subhanaka la ilaha illa anta

All glory be to You. There is no god save You.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ تُجِيبُ ٱلْمُضْطَرَّ

allahumma innaka tujibu almudtarra

O Allah, verily, You answer the distressed,

وَتَكْشِفُ ٱلسُّوءَ

wa takshifu alssu'a

remove the evil,

وَتُغِيثُ ٱلْمَكْرُوبَ

wa tughithu almakruba

aid the anguished,

وَتَشْفِي ٱلسَّقِيمَ

wa tashfi alssaqima

cure the ailed,

وَتُغْنِي ٱلْفَقِيرَ

wa tughni alfaqira

enrich the poor,

وَتَجْبُرُ ٱلْكَسِيرَ

wa tajburu alkasira

set the broken,

وَتَرْحَمُ ٱلصَّغِيرَ

wa tarhamu alssaghira

have mercy on the young,

وَتُعِينُ ٱلْكَبِيرَ

wa tu`inu alkabira

help the old,

وَلَيْسَ دُونَكَ ظَهِيرٌ

wa laysa dunaka zahirun

none can help against You,

وَلاَ فَوْقَكَ قَدِيرٌ

wa la fawqaka qadirun

none is more powerful than You,

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْعَلِيُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ

wa anta al`aliyyu alkabiru

and You are the Most High, the All-great.

يَا مُطْلِقَ ٱلْمُكَبَّلِ ٱلأَسِيرِ

ya mutliqa almukabbali al'asiri

O He Who release the shackled captive!

يَا رَازِقَ ٱلطِّفْلِ ٱلصَّغِيرِ

ya raziqa alttifli alssaghiri

O He Who provides sustenance to the young child!

يَا عِصْمَةَ ٱلْخَائِفِ ٱلْمُسْتَجِيرِ

ya `ismata alkha'ifi almustajiri

O He Who is the Preserver of the afraid seeker of refuge!

يَا مَنْ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَلاَ وَزِيرَ

ya man la sharika lahu wa la wazira

O He Who has neither partner nor assistant,

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

(please) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَأَعْطِنِي فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلْعَشِيَّةِ

wa a`tini fi hadhihi al`ashiyyati

and grant me, in this evening,

أَفْضَلَ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَأَنَلْتَ

afdala ma a`tayta wa analta

the best of what You have granted and awarded

أَحَداً مِنْ عِبَادِكَ

ahadan min `ibadika

to any of Your servants,

مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ تُولِيهَا

min ni`matin tuliha

including a grace that You donate,

وَآلاَءٍ تُجَدِّدُهَا

wa ala'in tujaddiduha

bounties that You re-offer,

وَبَلِيَّةٍ تَصْرِفُهَا

wa baliyyatin tasrifuha

a tribulation that You deter,

وَكُرْبَةٍ تَكْشِفُهَا

wa kurbatin takshifuha

an anguish that You remove,

وَدَعْوَةٍ تَسْمَعُهَا

wa da`watin tasma`uha

a prayer that You answer,

وَحَسَنَةٍ تَتَقَبَّلُهَا

wa hasanatin tataqabbaluha

a good deed that You admit,

وَسَيِّئَةٍ تَتَغَمَّدُهَا

wa sayyi'atin tataghammaduha

and an evildoing that You screen.

إِنَّكَ لَطِيفٌ بِمَا تَشَاءُ خَبِيرٌ

innaka latifun bima tasha'u khabirun

Verily, You are All-tender to him You will, and All-aware,

وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ

wa `ala kulli shay'in qadirun

and You have power over all things.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ أَقْرَبُ مَنْ دُعِيَ

allahumma innaka aqrabu man du`iya

O Allah, Verily, You are the nearest of those whom are prayed,

وَأَسْرَعُ مَنْ أَجَابَ

wa asra`u man ajaba

You are the promptest of those who may respond,

وَأَكْرَمُ مَنْ عَفَا

wa akramu man `afa

the most generous of those who may pardon,

وَأَوْسَعُ مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ

wa awsa`u man a`ta

the most liberal of those who give,

وَأَسْمَعُ مَنْ سُئِلَ

wa asma`u man su'ila

and the most responding of those whom are asked.

يَا رَحْمٰنَ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلآخِرَةِ وَرَحِيمَهُمَا

ya rahmana alddunya wal-akhirati wa rahimahuma

O All-beneficent of the world and the Hereafter, and All-merciful!

لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِكَ مَسْؤُولٌ

laysa kamithlika mas'ulun

No besought one is like You

وَلاَ سِوَاكَ مَأْمُولٌ

wa la siwaka ma'mulun

and none save You is hoped.

دَعَوْتُكَ فَأَجَبْتَنِي

da`awtuka fa'ajabtani

I prayed You and You answered me.

وَسَأَلْتُكَ فَأَعْطَيْتَنِي

wa sa'altuka fa'a`taytani

I besought You and You gave me.

وَرَغِبْتُ إِلَيْكَ فَرَحِمْتَنِي

wa raghibtu ilayka farahimtani

I desired for You and You had mercy on me.

وَوَثِقْتُ بِكَ فَنَجَّيْتَنِي

wa wathiqtu bika fanajjaytani

I had confidence in You and You saved me.

وَفَزِعْتُ إِلَيْكَ فَكَفَيْتَنِي

wa fazi`tu ilayka fakafaytani

I resorted to You in awe and You delivered me.

اللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ

allahumma fasalli `ala muhammadin

O Allah, (please) send blessings to Muhammad,

عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ وَنَبِيِّكَ

`abdika wa rasulika wa nabiyyika

Your servant, messenger, and prophet,

وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ أَجْمَعِينَ

wa `ala alihi alttayyibina alttahirina ajma`ina

and to all of his Household, the pure and immaculate,

وَتَمِّمْ لَنَا نَعْمَاءَكَ

wa tammim lana na`ma'aka

and perfect for us Your graces,

وَهَنِّئْنَا عَطَاءَكَ

wa hanni'na `ata'aka

make us taste the pleasure of Your gifts,

وَٱكْتُبْنَا لَكَ شَاكِرِينَ

waktubna laka shakirina

and register us as thankful for You

وَلآِلاَئِكَ ذَاكِرِينَ

wa li'ala'ika dhakirina

and as oft-referring to You.

آمِينَ آمِينَ رَبَّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ

amina amina rabba al`alamina

Respond, respond! O Lord of the worlds!

اللَّهُمَّ يَا مَنْ مَلَكَ فَقَدَرَ

allahumma ya man malaka faqadara

O Allah, Who owns; therefore, He controls,

وَقَدَرَ فَقَهَرَ

wa qadara faqahara

and controls; therefore, He has absolute authority,

وَعُصِيَ فَسَتَرَ

wa `usiya fasatara

and is disobeyed; yet, He covers,

وَٱسْتُغْفِرَ فَغَفَرَ

wastughfira faghafara

and is prayed for forgiveness; therefore, He forgives.

يَا غَايَةَ ٱلطَّالِبِينَ ٱلرَّاغِبِينَ

ya ghayata alttalibina alrraghibina

O He Who is the aim of seekers and desirers

وَمُنْتَهَىٰ أَمَلِ ٱلرَّاجِينَ

wa muntaha amali alrrajina

and the ultimate purpose of the hope of hopers!

يَا مَنْ أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْء عِلْماً

ya man ahata bikulli shay'in `ilman

O He Who encompasses all things in knowledge

وَوَسِعَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيلِينَ رَأْفَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَحِلْماً

wa wasi`a almustaqilina ra'fatan wa rahmatan wa hilman

and covers those who quit (their sins) with tender, mercy, and forbearance!

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلْعَشِيَّةِ

allahumma inna natawajjahu ilayka fi hadhihi al`ashiyyati

O Allah, we turn our faces to You in this evening

ٱلَّتِي شَرَّفْتَهَا وَعَظَّمْتَهَا

allati sharraftaha wa `azzamtaha

that You deem honorable and reverential

بِمُحَمَّدٍ نَبِيِّكَ وَرَسُولِكَ

bimuhammadin nabiyyika wa rasulika

(asking You) in the name of Muhammad, Your Prophet, Messenger,

وَخِيَرَتِكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

wa khiyaratika min khalqika

the best of Your creation,

وَأَمِينِكَ عَلَىٰ وَحْيِكَ

wa aminika `ala wahyika

Your trustee on Your Revelation,

ٱلْبَشِيرِ ٱلنَّذِيرِ

albashiri alnnadhiri

the bearer of glad tidings, the warner,

ٱلسِّرَاجِ ٱلْمُنِيرِ

alssiraji almuniri

and the shining lantern,

ٱلَّذِي أَنْعَمْتَ بِهِ عَلَىٰ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ

alladhi an`amta bihi `ala almuslimina

with whom You have conferred upon the Muslims,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ رَحْمَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ

wa ja`altahu rahmatan lil`alamina

and whom You made mercy for the worlds.

اللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

allahumma fasalli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

So, O Allah, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

كَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ أَهْلٌ لِذٰلِكَ مِنْكَ يَا عَظِيمُ

kama muhammadun ahlun lidhalika minka ya `azimu

forasmuch as Muhammad deserves that from You, O All-great.

فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ

fasalli `alayhi wa `ala alihi

So, (please) send blessings to him and his Household,

ٱلْمُنْتَجَبِينَ ٱلطَّيِّبِينَ ٱلطَّاهِرِينَ أَجْمَعِينَ

almuntajabina alttayyibina alttahirina ajma`ina

the elite, pure, and immaculate—all of them,

وَتَغَمَّدْنَا بِعَفْوِكَ عَنَّا

wa taghammadna bi`afwika `anna

and encompass us with Your pardoning us.

فَإِلَيْكَ عَجَّتِ ٱلأَصْوَاتُ بِصُنُوفِ ٱللُّغَاتِ

fa'ilayka `ajjat al'aswatu bisunufi allughati

To You are the voices of various languages clamoring;

فَٱجْعَلْ لَنَا ٱللَّهُمَّ فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلْعَشِيَّةِ

faj`al lana allahumma fi hadhihi al`ashiyyati

so, decide for us, O Allah, in this evening

نَصِيباً مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ تَقْسِمُهُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ

nasiban min kulli khayrin taqsimuhu bayna `ibadika

a share from every good item that You distribute among Your servants,

وَنُورٍ تَهْدِي بِهِ

wa nurin tahdi bihi

illumination by which You guide,

وَرَحْمَةٍ تَنْشُرُهَا

wa rahmatin tanshuruha

mercy that You spread,

وَبَرَكَةٍ تُنْزِلُهَا

wa barakatin tunziluha

blessing that You bring down,

وَعَافِيَةٍ تُجَلِّلُهَا

wa `afiyatin tujalliluha

wellbeing that You extend,

وَرِزْقٍ تَبْسُطُهُ

wa rizqin tabsutuhu

and sustenance that You stretch,

يَا أَرْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

اللَّهُمَّ أَقْلِبْنَا فِي هٰذَا ٱلْوَقْتِ

allahumma aqlibna fi hadha alwaqti

O Allah, turn us in this hour

مُنْجِحِينَ مُفْلِحِينَ

munjihina muflihina

successful, flourishing,

مَبْرُورِينَ غَانِمِينَ

mabrurina ghanimina

blessed, and gainers.

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْقَانِطِينَ

wa la taj`alna min alqanitina

Do not include us with the despondent.

وَلاَ تُخْلِنَا مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ

wa la tukhlina min rahmatika

Do not leave us without Your mercy.

وَلاَ تَحْرِمْنَا مَا نُؤَمِّلُهُ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

wa la tahrimna ma nu'ammiluhu min fadlika

Do not deprive us of that which we hope from Your favor.

وَلاَ تَجْعَلْنَا مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ مَحْرُومِينَ

wa la taj`alna min rahmatika mahrumina

Do not make us deprived of Your mercy,

وَلاَ لِفَضْلِ مَا نُؤَمِّلُهُ مِنْ عَطَائِكَ قَانِطِينَ

wa la lifadli ma nu'ammiluhu min `ata'ika qanitina

or despair of the favor of what we hope from Your gifts.

وَلاَ تَرُدَّنَا خَائِبِينَ

wa la taruddana kha'ibina

Do not turns us down disappointed

وَلاَ مِنْ بَابِكَ مَطْرُودِينَ

wa la min babika matrudina

or driven away from Your door.

يَا أَجْوَدَ ٱلأَجْوَدِينَ

ya ajwada al-ajwadina

O most Magnanimous of all those who treat magnanimously

وَأَكْرَمَ ٱلأَكْرَمِينَ

wa akrama al-akramina

and most Generous of all those who act generously!

إِلَيْكَ أَقْبَلْنَا مُوقِنِينَ

ilayka aqbalna muqinina

To You are we advancing with full conviction

وَلِبَيْتِكَ ٱلْحَرَامِ آمِّينَ قَاصِدِينَ

wa libaytika alharami ammina qasidina

and to Your Holy House are we betaking ourselves purposefully;

فَأَعِنَّا عَلَىٰ مَنَاسِكِنَا

fa'a`inna `ala manasikina

So, (please) help us do our rituals (perfectly)

وَأَكْمِلْ لَنَا حَجَّنَا

wa akmil lana hajjana

perfect for us our pilgrimage

وَٱعْفُ عَنَّا وَعَافِنَا

wa`fu `anna wa `afina

pardon us, and grant us wellbeing.

فَقَدْ مَدَدْنَا إِلَيْكَ أَيْدِيَنَا

faqad madadna ilayka aydiyana

We are stretching our hands toward You;

فَهِيَ بِذِلَّةِ ٱلاِﹾعْتِرَافِ مَوْسُومَةٌ

fahiya bidhillati ali`tirafi mawsumatun

so, they are marked by the humiliation of confession.

اللَّهُمَّ فَأَعْطِنَا فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلْعَشِيَّةِ مَا سَأَلْنَاكَ

allahumma fa'a`tina fi hadhihi al`ashiyyati ma sa'alnaka

O Allah, grant us in this evening that which we have besought from You

وَٱكْفِنَا مَا ٱسْتَكْفَيْنَاكَ

wakfina ma istakfaynaka

and save us from that which we have besought You to save us;

فَلاَ كَافِيَ لَنَا سِوَاكَ

fala kafiya lana siwaka

for we have no savior but You

وَلاَ رَبَّ لَنَا غَيْرُكَ

wa la rabba lana ghayruka

and we have no sustainer but You.

نَافِذٌ فِينَا حُكْمُكَ

nafidhun fina hukmuka

Your decree is prevalent on us,

مُحِيطٌ بِنَا عِلْمُكَ

muhitun bina `ilmuka

Your knowledge is encompassing us,

عَدْلٌ فِينَا قَضَاؤُكَ

`adlun fina qada'uka

and Your decisions about us is just.

إِقْضِ لَنَا ٱلْخَيْرَ

iqdi lana alkhayra

(Please) decree for us that which is good

وَٱجْعَلْنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْخَيْرِ

waj`alna min ahli alkhayri

and make us of the people of goodness.

اللَّهُمَّ أَوْجِبْ لَنَا بِجُودِكَ عَظِيمَ ٱلأَجْرِ

allahumma awjib lana bijudika `azima al'ajri

O Allah, decide for us, on account of Your magnanimity, a great reward,

وَكَرِيمَ ٱلذُّخْرِ

wa karima aldhdhikhri

a generous reserve,

وَدَوَامَ ٱلْيُسْرِ

wa dawama alyusri

and a permanent easiness,

وَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا أَجْمَعِينَ

waghfir lana dhunubana ajma`ina

and forgive us all our sins,

وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنَا مَعَ ٱلْهَالِكِينَ

wa la tuhlikna ma`a alhalikina

do not annihilate us with those annihilated,

وَلاَ تَصْرِفْ عَنَّا رَأْفَتَكَ وَرَحْمَتَكَ

wa la tasrif `anna ra'fataka wa rahmataka

and do not drive away from us Your tenderness and mercy;

يَا أَرْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

اللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْنَا فِي هٰذَا ٱلْوَقْتِ مِمَّنْ سَأَلَكَ فَأَعْطَيْتَهُ

allahumma ij`alna fi hadha alwaqti mimman sa'alaka fa'a`taytahu

O Allah, include us, at this hour, with them who besought You and You thus gave them,

وَشَكَرَكَ فَزِدْتَهُ

wa shakaraka fazidtahu

who thanked You and You thus increased them,

وَثَابَ إِلَيْكَ فَقَبِلْتَهُ

wa thaba ilayka faqabiltahu

who returned to You and You thus accepted them,

وَتَنَصَّلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ ذُنُوبِهِ كُلِّهَا فَغَفَرْتَهَا لَهُ

wa tanassala ilayka min dhunubihi kulliha faghafartaha lahu

and who renounced all their sins before You and You thus forgave them;

يَا ذَا ٱلْجَلاَلِ وَٱلاِكْرَامِ

ya dhaljalali wal-ikrami

O Lord of Majesty and Honor!

اللَّهُمَّ وَنَقِّنَا وَسَدِّدْنَا

allahumma wa naqqina wa saddidna

O Allah, purify us and lead us to success

وَٱقْبَلْ تَضَرُّعَنَا

waqbal tadarru`ana

and admit our earnest entreaty;

يَا خَيْرَ مَنْ سُئِلَ

ya khayra man su'ila

O He Who is the best of all those who are besought

وَيَا أَرْحَمَ مَنِ ٱسْتُرْحِمَ

wa ya arhama man isturhima

and most Merciful of all those whose mercy is sought!

يَا مَنْ لاَ يَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْهِ إِغْمَاضُ ٱلْجُفُونِ

ya man la yakhfa `alayhi ighmadu aljufuni

O He from Whom the closing of eyelids cannot be hidden,

وَلاَ لَحْظُ ٱلْعُيُونِ

wa la lahzu al`uyuni

nor are the glances of eyes,

وَلاَ مَا ٱسْتَقَرَّ فِي ٱلْمَكْنُونِ

wa la ma istaqarra fi almaknuni

nor is that which settles in the unseen,

وَلاَ مَا ٱنْطَوَتْ عَلَيْهِ مُضْمَرَاتُ ٱلْقُلُوبِ

wa la ma intawat `alayhi mudmaratu alqulubi

nor are things vanished under the secrets of hearts.

أَلاَ كُلُّ ذٰلِكَ قَدْ أَحْصَاهُ عِلْمُكَ

ala kullu dhalika qad ahsahu `ilmuka

Verily, all that has been encompassed by Your knowledge

وَوَسِعَهُ حِلْمُكَ

wa wasi`ahu hilmuka

and covered by Your forbearance.

سُبْحَانَكَ وَتَعَالَيْتَ عَمَّا يَقُولُ ٱلظَّالِمُونَ

subhanaka wa ta`alayta `amma yaqulu alzzalimuna

All glory be to You; and Exalted be You above all that the wrongdoers say,

عُلُوّاً كَبِيراً

`uluwwan kabiran

in high exaltation!

تُسَبِّحُ لَكَ ٱلسَّمَاوَاتُ ٱلسَّبْعُ

tusabbihu laka alssamawatu alssab`u

Declaring You glory are the seven heavens,

وَٱلأَرَضُونَ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ

wal-araduna wa man fihinna

the (layers of the) earth, and all beings therein.

وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْء إِلاَّ يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ

wa in min shay'in illa yusabbihu bihamdika

There is not a thing but celebrates Your praise.

فَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ وَٱلْمَجْدُ

falaka alhamdu walmajdu

Yours are all praise, glory,

وَعُلُوُّ ٱلْجَدِّ

wa `uluwwu aljaddi

and exaltation of majesty.

يَا ذَا ٱلْجَلاَلِ وَٱلاِكْرَامِ

ya dhaljalali wal-ikrami

O Owner of majesty, honor,

وَٱلْفَضْلِ وَٱلاِنْعَامِ

walfadli wal-in`ami

grace, favoring,

وَٱلأَيَادِي ٱلْجِسَامِ

wal-ayadi aljisami

and huge bestowals.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْجَوَادُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ

wa anta aljawadu alkarimu

You are the All-magnanimous, the All-generous,

ٱلرَّؤُوفُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

alrra'ufu alrrahimu

the All-tender, the All-merciful.

اللَّهُمَّ أَوْسِعْ عَلَيَّ مِنْ رِزْقِكَ ٱلْحَلاَلِ

allahumma awsi` `alayya min rizqika alhalali

O Allah, provide me largely with Your legally gotten sustenance,

وَعَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي وَدِينِي

wa `afini fi badani wa dini

grant me wellbeing in my body and my faith,

وَآمِنْ خَوْفِي

wa amin khawfi

secure my fears,

وَأَعْتِقْ رَقَبَتِي مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ

wa i`tiq raqabati min alnnari

and release me from Hellfire.

اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَمْكُرْ بِي

allahumma la tamkur bi

O Allah, (please) do not plan against me,

وَلاَ تَسْتَدْرِجْنِي

wa la tastadrijni

do not draw me near to destruction,

وَلاَ تَخْدَعْنِي

wa la takhda`ni

do not overreach me,

وَٱدْرَأْ عَنِّي شَرَّ فَسَقَةِ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلإِنْسِ

wadra' `anni sharra fasaqati aljinni wal-insi

and drive away from me the evils of the corruptive Jinn and men.

Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) then raised his head and sight to the sky with teary eyes and said with an audible voice:

يَا أَسْمَعَ ٱلسَّامِعِينَ

ya asma`a alssami`ina

O most Hearing of all those who can hear!

يَا أَبْصَرَ ٱلنَّاظِرِينَ

ya absara alnnazirina

O most Seeing of all those who can see!

وَيَا أَسْرَعَ ٱلْحَاسِبِينَ

wa ya asra`a alhasibina

O swiftest of all those who call to account!

وَيَا أَرحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ

wa ya arhama alrrahimina

O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!

صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

salli `ala muhammadin wa ali muhammadin

(Please) send blessings to Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

ٱلسَّادَةِ ٱلْمَيَامِينِ

alssadati almayamini

the auspicious chiefs;

وَأَسْأَلُكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ حَاجَتِيَ

wa as'aluka allahumma hajati

and I beseech You for my request

ٱلَّتِي إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَنِيهَا لَمْ يَضُرَّنِي مَا مَنَعْتَنِي

allati in a`taytaniha lam yadurrani ma mana`tani

that if You answer, anything else that You reject will not harm me

وَإِنْ مَنَعْتَنِيهَا لَمْ يَنْفَعْنِي مَا أَعْطَيْتَنِي

wa in mana`taniha lam yanfa`ni ma a`taytani

and if You reject, anything else that You respond will not benefit me.

أَسْأَلُكَ فَكَاكَ رَقَبَتِي مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ

as'aluka fakaka raqabati min alnnari

I beseech You for releasing me from Hellfire.

لاَ إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

la ilaha illa anta

There is no god save You,

وَحْدَكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ

wahdaka la sharika laka

only You, there is no partner with You.

لَكَ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَلَكَ ٱلْحَمْدُ

laka almulku wa laka alhamdu

To You is the kingdom and to You is all praise,

وَأَنْتَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ

wa anta `ala kulli shay'in qadirun

and You have power over all things.

يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبّ يَا رَبّ…

ya rabbi ya rabbi ya rabbi…

O my Lord! O my Lord! O my Lord…

Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) then repeated ya-rabbi so frequently and effectively that he attracted the attentions of all the others who, instead of praying for granting their needs, surrounded Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him) to listen to him and pray for the response of his supplication. Then, they wept with him. At sunset, they left Mount `Arafat with him. This is the end of Imam al-Husayn’s supplicatory prayer on the `Arafat Day according to the narrations of al-Kaf`ami in his book of al-Balad al-Amin and `Allamah al-Majlisi in his book of Zad al-Ma`ad. As for Sayyid Ibn Tawus, he, in his book of Iqbal al-A`mal, adds the following statements to the supplicatory prayer:

إِلٰهِي أَنَا ٱلْفَقِيرُ فِي غِنَايَ

ilahi ana alfaqiru fi ghinaya

O my God, I am needy despite my richness;

فَكَيْفَ لا أَكُونُ فَقِيراً فِي فَقْرِي؟

fakayfa la akunu faqiran fi faqri

so, how can I not be needy in my neediness?

إِلٰهِي أَنَا ٱلْجَاهِلُ فِي عِلْمِي

ilahi ana aljahilu fi `ilmi

O my God, I am ignorant despite my knowledge;

فَكَيْفَ لاَ أَكُونُ جَهُولاً فِي جَهْلِي؟

fakayfa la akunu jahulan fi jahli

so, how can I not be ignorant in my ignorance?

إِلٰهِي إِنَّ ٱخْتِلاَفَ تَدْبِيرِكَ

ilahi inna ikhtilafa tadbirika

O my God, the variety of Your regulating of matters

وَسُرْعَةَ طَوَاءِ مَقَادِيرِكَ

wa sur`ata tawa'i maqadirika

and the swiftness of changes in Your ordainments

مَنَعَا عِبَادَكَ ٱلْعَارِفِينَ بِكَ

mana`a `ibadaka al`arifina bika

have urged Your servants, who recognize You,

عَنِ ٱلسُّكُونِ إِلَىٰ عَطَاءٍ

`an alsskuni ila `ata'in

not to stop at a certain gift

وَٱلْيَأْسِ مِنْكَ فِي بَلاَءٍ

walya'si minka fi bala'in

and not to despair of You in tribulations.

إِلٰهِي مِنِّي مَا يَلِيقُ بِلُؤْمِي

ilahi minni ma yaliqu bilu'mi

O my God, coming out of me is that which fits my lowliness;

وَمِنْكَ مَا يَلِيقُ بِكَرَمِكَ

wa minka ma yaliqu bikaramika

but coming from You is that which befits Your nobleness.

إِلٰهِي وَصَفْتَ نَفْسَكَ بِٱللُّطْفِ وَٱلرَّأْفَةِ لِي

ilahi wasafta nafsaka billutfi walrra'fati li

O my God, You had ascribed to Yourself gentleness and kindness to me

قَبْلَ وُجُودِ ضَعْفِي

qabla wujudi da`fi

before the existence of my weakness.

أَفَتَمْنَعُنِي مِنْهُمَا بَعْدَ وُجُودِ ضَعْفِي؟

afatamna`uni minhuma ba`da wujudi da`fi

Will You deprive me of these two after the emergence of my weakness?

إِلٰهِي إِنْ ظَهَرَتِ ٱلْمَحَاسِنُ مِنِّي

ilahi in zaharat almahasinu minni

O my God, if amenities appear in my conduct,

فَبِفَضْلِكَ وَلَكَ ٱلْمِنَّةُ عَلَيَّ

fabifadlika wa laka alminnatu `alayya

then that is on account of Your favors and Your conferral on me.

وَإِنْ ظَهَرَتِ ٱلْمَسَاوِئُ مِنِّي

wa in zaharat almasawi'u minni

If evildoings appear in my conduct,

فَبِعَدْلِكَ وَلَكَ ٱلْحُجَّةُ عَلَيَّ

fabi`adlika wa laka alhujjatu `alayya

then that is still Your justice and You have claim against me.

إِلٰهِي كَيْفَ تَكِلُنِي وَقَدْ تَكَفَّلْتَ لِي؟

ilahi kayfa takiluni wa qad takaffalta li

O my God, how may it be that You abandon me after You have vouched for me?

وَكَيْفَ أُضَامُ وَأَنْتَ ٱلنَّاصِرُ لِي؟

wa kayfa udamu wa anta alnnasiru li

How may I be aggrieved and You are my support?

أَمْ كَيْفَ أَخِيبُ وَأَنْتَ ٱلْحَفِيُّ بِي؟

am kayfa akhibu wa anta alhafiyyu bi

How may I be disappointed and You are undertaking my affairs?

هَا أَنَا أَتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ بِفَقْرِي إِلَيْكَ

ha ana atawassalu ilayka bifaqri ilayka

Here I am begging You by my need for You.

وَكَيْفَ أَتَوَسَّلُ إِلَيْكَ

wa kayfa atawassalu ilayka

How can I beg You

بِمَا هُوَ مَحَالٌ أَنْ يَصِلَ إِلَيْكَ؟

bima huwa mahalun an yasila ilayka

by something that is impossible to reach You?

أَمْ كَيْفَ أَشْكُو إِلَيْكَ حَالِي

am kayfa ashku ilayka hali

How can I complain to You about my manners

وَهُوَ لاَ يَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْكَ؟

wa huwa la yakhfa `alayka

while they cannot be hidden from You?

أَمْ كَيْفَ أُتَرْجِمُ بِمَقَالِي

am kayfa utarjimu bimaqali

How can I interpret my words

وَهُوَ مِنْكَ بَرَزٌ إِلَيْكَ؟

wa huwa minka barazun ilayka

while You are their source?

أَمْ كَيْفَ تُخَيِّبُ آمَالِي

am kayfa tukhayyibu amali

How come that You may let down my hopes,

وَهِيَ قَدْ وَفَدَتْ إِلَيْكَ؟

wa hiya qad wafadat ilayka

while they are addressed to You?

أَمْ كَيْفَ لاَ تُحْسِنُ أَحْوَالِي

am kayfa la tuhsinu ahwali

How come that You may not improve my conditions

وَبِكَ قَامَتْ

wa bika qamat

while they are originated by You?

إِلٰهِي مَا أَلْطَفَكَ بِي

ilahi ma altafaka bi

O my God, how gentle You are to me

مَعَ عَظِيمِ جَهْلِي

ma`a `azimi jahli

despite my notorious ignorance!

وَمَا أَرْحَمَكَ بِي

wa ma arhamaka bi

How merciful You are to me

مَعَ قَبِيحِ فِعْلِي

ma`a qabihi fi`li

despite my hideous deeds!

إِلٰهِي مَا أَقْرَبَكَ مِنِّي

ilahi ma aqrabaka minni

O my God, how nigh to me You are

وَأَبْعَدَنِي عَنْكَ

wa ab`adani `anka

and how far from You I am!

وَمَا أَرْأَفَكَ بِي

wa ma ar'afaka bi

How kind to me You are;

فَمَا ٱلَّذِي يَحْجُبُنِي عَنْكَ؟

fama alladhi yahjubuni `anka

so, what is that which can prevent me from You?

إِلٰهِي عَلِمْتُ بِٱخْتِلاَفِ ٱلآثَارِ

ilahi `alimtu bikhtilafi al'athari

O my God, I have known, through variety of signs

وَتَنَقُّلاَتِ ٱلأَطْوَارِ

wa tanaqqulati al'atwari

and changes of phases,

أَنَّ مُرَادَكَ مِنِّي أَنْ تَتَعَرَّفَ إِلَيَّ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

anna muradaka minni an tata`arrafa ilayya fi kulli shay'in

that what You want from me is that You introduce Yourself to me in all things

حَتَّىٰ لا أَجْهَلَكَ فِي شَيْءٍ

hatta la ajhalaka fi shay'in

so that I will not ignore You in any thing.

إِلٰهِي كُلَّمَا أَخْرَسَنِي لُؤْمِي

ilahi kullama akhrasani lu'mi

O my God, whenever my lowliness suppresses my voice,

أَنْطَقَنِي كَرَمُكَ

antaqani karamuka

Your nobility encourages me to speak.

وَكُلَّمَا آيَسَتْنِي أَوْصَافِي

wa kullama ayasatni awsafi

Whenever my features lead me to despair (of You),

أَطْمَعَتْنِي مِنَنُكَ

atma`atni minanuka

Your bestowals make me crave for You.

إِلٰهِي مَنْ كَانَتْ مَحَاسِنُهُ مَسَاوِئَ

ilahi man kanat mahasinuhu masawi'a

O my God, as for he whose good deeds are wrongdoings;

فَكَيْفَ لاَ تَكُونُ مَسَاوئُهُ مَسَاوِئَ؟

fakayfa la takunu masawi'uhu masawi'a

how can his wrongdoings not be wrongdoings?

وَمَنْ كَانَتْ حَقَائِقُهُ دَعَاوِيَ

wa man kanat haqa'iquhu da`awiya

As for he whose facts are mere claims,

فَكَيْفَ لاَ تَكُونُ دَعَاوَاهُ دَعَاوِيَ؟

fakayfa la takunu da`awahu da`awiya

how can his claims not be claims?

إِلٰهِي حُكْمُكَ ٱلنَّافِذُ وَمَشِيئَتُكَ ٱلْقَاهِرَةُ

ilahi hukmuka alnnafidhu wa mashi'atuka alqahiratu

O my God, Your unstoppable decree and Your surmounting volition

لَمْ يَتْرُكَا لِذِي مَقَالٍ مَقَالاً

lam yatruka lidhi maqalin maqalan

have not left any word to be said by any orator

وَلاَ لِذِي حَالٍ حَالاً

wa la lidhi halin halan

and have not left any manner to be displayed.

إِلٰهِي كَمْ مِنْ طَاعَةٍ بَنَيْتُهَا

ilahi kam min ta`atin banaytuha

O my God, too many are the acts of obedience that I have prepared

وَحَالَةٍ شَيَّدْتُهَا

wa halatin shayyadtuha

and the conducts that I have established,

هَدَمَ ٱعْتِمَادِي عَلَيْهَا عَدْلُكَ

hadama i`timadi `alayha `adluka

but Your justice has ruined my reliance on these,

بَلْ أَقَالَنِي مِنْهَا فَضْلُكَ

bal aqalani minha fadluka

and, moreover, Your favoring has made me abandon them.

إِلٰهِي إِنَّكَ تَعْلَمُ

ilahi innaka ta`lamu

O my God, You surely know

أَنِّي وَإِنْ لَمْ تَدُمِ ٱلطَّاعَةُ مِنِّي فِعْلاً جَزْماً

anni wa in lam tadum altta`atu minni fi`lan jazman

that even my obedience (to You) has not lasted in reality,

فَقَدْ دَامَتْ مَحَبَّةً وَعَزْماً

faqad damat mahabbatan wa `azman

it has lasted in love (for it) and determination (to do it)!

إِلٰهِي كَيْفَ أَعْزِمُ وَأَنْتَ ٱلْقَاهِرُ؟

ilahi kayfa a`zimu wa anta alqahiru

O my God, how can I determine, while You are All-supreme?

وَكَيْفَ لاَ أَعْزِمُ وَأَنْتَ ٱلآمِرُ؟

wa kayfa la a`zimu wa anta al'amiru

How can I quit determining, while it is Your command (to determine)?

إِلٰهِي تَرَدُّدِي فِي ٱلآثَارِ

ilahi taraddudi fi al'athari

O my God, my hesitation in (following) Your traces

يُوجِبُ بُعْدَ ٱلْمَزَارِ

yujibu bu`da almazari

will result in unlikely visitation;

فَٱجْمَعْنِي عَلَيْكَ بِخِدْمَةٍ تُوصِلُنِي إِلَيْكَ

fajma`ni `alayka bikhidmatin tusiluni ilayka

so, (please) join me to You through a service that takes me to You.

كَيْفَ يُسْتَدَلُّ عَلَيْكَ بِمَا هُوَ فِي وُجُودِهِ مُفْتَقِرٌ إِلَيْكَ؟

kayfa yustadallu `alayka bima huwa fi wujudihi muftaqirun ilayka

How can You be figured out through that whose existence relies on You?

أَيَكُونُ لِغَيْرِكَ مِنَ ٱلظُّهُورِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ

ayakunu lighayrika min alzzuhuri ma laysa laka

Can any thing other than You hold a (kind of) manifestation that You lack

حَتَّىٰ يَكُونَ هُوَ ٱلْمُظْهِرَ لَكَ؟

hatta yakuna huwa almuzhira laka

and thus it may act as an appearance for You?

مَتَىٰ غِبْتَ حَتَّىٰ تَحْتَاجَ إِلَىٰ دَلِيلٍ يَدُلُّ عَلَيْكَ؟

mata ghibta hatta tahtaja ila dalilin yadullu `alayka

When have You ever been absent so that You may need something to point to You?

وَمَتَىٰ بَعُدْتَ حَتَّىٰ تَكُونَ ٱلآثَارُ هِيَ ٱلَّتِي تُوصِلُ إِلَيْكَ؟

wa mata ba`udta hatta takuna al'atharu hiya allati tusilu ilayka

When have You ever been far-off so that traces may lead to You?

عَمِيَتْ عَيْنٌ لاَ تَرَاكَ عَلَيْهَا رَقِيباً

`amiyat `aynun la taraka `alayha raqiban

Blind be the eye that cannot see You watching it.

وَخَسِرَتْ صَفْقَةُ عَبْدٍ لَمْ تَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ حُبِّكَ نَصِيباً

wa khasirat safqatu `abdin lam taj`al lahu min hubbika nasiban

Losing is a servant’s deal that does not dedicate a share to the love for You.

إِلٰهِي أَمَرْتَ بِٱلرُّجُوعِ إِلَىٰ ٱلآثَارِ

ilahi amarta bilrrju`i ila al'athari

O my God, You have ordered us to refer to the traces;

فَٱرْجِعْنِي إِلَيْكَ بِكِسْوَةِ ٱلأَنْوَارِ

fa'arji`ni ilayka bikiswati al'anwari

therefore, (please do) make me refer to You with the garb of lights

وَهِدَايَةِ ٱلاِﹾسْتِبْصَارِ

wa hidayati alistibsari

and the guidance of insight

حَتَّىٰ أَرْجِعَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْهَا كَمَا دَخَلْتُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْهَا

hatta arji`a ilayka minha kama dakhaltu ilayka minha

so that I will return to You in the same way as I have entered to You from them

مَصُونَ ٱلسِّرِّ عَنِ ٱلنَّظَرِ إِلَيْهَا

masuna alssirri `an alnnazari ilayha

as being too protected to look at them

وَمَرْفُوعَ ٱلْهِمَّةِ عَنِ ٱلاِﹾعْتِمَادِ عَلَيْهَا

wa marfu`a alhimmati `an ali`timadi `alayha

and too determining to depend upon them,

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ

innaka `ala kulli shay'in qadirun

for You have power over all things.

إِلٰهِي هٰذَا ذُلِّي ظَاهِرٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

ilahi hadha dhulli zahirun bayna yadayka

O my God, this is my humiliation; it manifests itself before You.

وَهٰذَا حَالِي لاَ يَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْكَ

wa hadha hali la yakhfa `alayka

This is my manner; it cannot be concealed against You.

مِنْكَ أَطْلُبُ ٱلْوُصُولَ إِلَيْكَ

minka atlubu alwusula ilayka

From You do I beseech soaring to You

وَبِكَ أَسْتَدِلَّ عَلَيْكَ

wa bika astadillu `alayka

and through You do I take the way to You.

فَٱهْدِنِي بِنُورِكَ إِلَيْكَ

fahdini binurika ilayka

So, (please do) guide me to You through Your Light

وَأَقِمْنِي بِصِدْقِ ٱلْعُبُودِيَّةِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ

wa aqimni bisidqi al`ubudiyyati bayna yadayka

and make me stand up before Your Hands with the true servitude to You.

إِلٰهِي عَلِّمْنِي مِنْ عِلْمِكَ ٱلْمَخْزُونِ

ilahi `allimni min `ilmika almakhzuni

O my God, (please do) teach me from Your veiled knowledge

وَصُنِّي بِسِتْرِكَ ٱلْمَصُونِ

wa sunni bisitrika almasuni

and protect me with Your shielding shelter.

إِلٰهِي حَقِّقْنِي بِحَقَائِقِ أَهْلِ ٱلْقُرْبِ

ilahi haqqiqni bihaqa'iqi ahli alqurbi

O my God, (please do) grant me the realities that are enjoyed by the people who are near to You

وَٱسْلُكْ بِي مَسْلَكَ أَهْلِ ٱلْجَذْبِ

wasluk bi maslaka ahli aljadhbi

and make me follow the course of the people who are attracted to You.

إِلٰهِي أَغْنِنِي بِتَدْبِيرِكَ لِي عَنْ تَدْبِيرِي

ilahi aghnini bitadbirika li `an tadbiri

O my God, make Your management of my affairs replace my management of my affairs,

وَبِٱخْتِيَارِكَ عَنِ ٱخْتِيَارِي

wa bikhtiyarika `an ikhtiyari

make Your choice for me replace my choice for myself,

وَأَوْقِفْنِي عَلَىٰ مَرَاكِزِ ٱضْطِرَارِي

wa awqifni `ala marakizi idtirari

and make me stop at the points of emergency.

إِلٰهِي أَخْرِجْنِي مِنْ ذُلِّ نَفْسِي

ilahi akhrijni min dhulli nafsi

O my God, (please do) take my out of the humiliation of myself

وَطَهِّرْنِي مِنْ شَكِّي وَشِرْكِي

wa tahhirni min shakki wa shirki

and purify me from my suspicion and polytheism

قَبْلَ حُلُولِ رَمْسِي

qabla hululi ramsi

before I enter my grave.

بِكَ أَنْتَصِرُ فَٱنْصُرْنِي

bika antasiru fansurni

Only through You do I achieve victory; so, (please do) give me victory.

وَعَلَيْكَ أَتَوَكَّلُ فَلاَ تَكِلْنِي

wa `alayka atawakkalu fala takilni

Only upon You do I rely; so, do not refer me to anyone else.

وَإِيَّاكَ أَسْأَلُ فَلاَ تُخَيِّبْنِي

wa iyyaka as'alu fala tukhayyibni

Only You do I beseech; so, do not disappoint me.

وَفِي فَضْلِكَ أَرْغَبُ فَلاَ تَحْرِمْنِي

wa fi fadlika arghabu fala tahrimni

Only for Your favors do I desire; so, do not deprive me (of Your favors).

وَبِجَنَابِكَ أَنْتَسِبُ فَلاَ تُبْعِدْنِي

wa bijanabika antasibu fala tub`idni

Only to Your side do I resort; so, do not set me aside.

وَبِبَابِكَ أَقِفُ فَلاَ تَطْرُدْنِي

wa bibabika aqifu fala tatrudni

At Your door only do I stand; so, do not drive me away.

إِلٰهِي تَقَدَّسَ رِضَاكَ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ عِلَّةٌ مِنْكَ

ilahi taqaddasa ridaka an yakuna lahu `illatun minka

O my God, Your pleasure is too sanctified to receive a defect from You;

فَكَيْفَ يَكُونُ لَهُ عِلَّةٌ مِنِّي؟

fakayfa yakunu lahu `illatun minni

hence, how can it receive a defect from me?

إِلٰهِي أَنْتَ ٱلْغَنِيُّ بِذَاتِكَ أَنْ يَصِلَ إِلَيْكَ ٱلنَّفْعُ مِنْكَ

ilahi anta alghaniyyu bidhatika an yasila ilayka alnnaf`u minka

O my God, You are too self-sufficient by Yourself to be benefited by Yourself;

فَكَيْفَ لاَ تَكُونُ غَنِيّاً عَنِّي؟

fakayfa la takunu ghaniyyan `annai

hence, how can You not be self-sufficient from me?

إِلٰهِي إِنَّ ٱلْقَضَاءَ وَٱلْقَدَرَ يُمَنِّينِي

ilahi inna alqada'a walqadara yumannini

O my God, fate awakens my hope

وَإِنَّ ٱلْهَوَىٰ بِوَثَائِقِ ٱلشَّهْوَةِ أَسَرَنِي

wa inna alhawa biwatha'iqi alshshahwati asarani

and whim has enchained me with the firm chains of lust;

فَكُنْ أَنْتَ ٱلنَّصِيرَ لِي

fakun anta alnnasira li

so, (please do) be my Supporter

حَتَّىٰ تَنْصُرَنِي وَتُبَصِّرَنِي

hatta tansurani wa tubassirani

so that You shall back me and show me the right path.

وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ

wa aghnini bifadlika

And (please do) help me (to dispense with anyone else) through Your favors

حَتَّىٰ أَسْتَغْنِيَ بِكَ عَنْ طَلَبِي

hatta astaghniya bika `an talabi

so that I shall depend upon You exclusively in my requests.

أَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَشْرَقْتَ ٱلأَنْوَارَ فِي قُلُوبِ أَوْلِيَائِكَ

anta alladhi ashraqta al'anwara fi qulubi awliya'ika

It is You Who have lit the illuminations in the hearts of Your intimate servants

حَتَّىٰ عَرَفُوكَ وَوَحَّدُوكَ

hatta `arafuka wa wahhaduka

so that they have recognized and testified Your Oneness.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي أَزَلْتَ ٱلأَغْيَارَ عَنْ قُلُوبِ أَحِبَّائِكَ

wa anta alladhi azalta al'aghyara `an qulubi ahibba'ika

It is You Who have removed love for others from the hearts of Your lovers

حَتَّىٰ لَمْ يُحِبُّوٱ سِوَاكَ

hatta lam yuhibbu siwaka

so that they have loved none save You

وَلَمْ يَلْجَأُوٱ إِلَىٰ غَيْرِكَ

wa lam yalja'u ila ghayrika

and they have resorted to none save You.

أَنْتَ ٱلْمُؤْنِسُ لَهُمْ

anta almu'nisu lahum

You alone are entertaining them

حَيْثُ أَوْحَشَتْهُمُ ٱلْعَوَالِمُ

haythu awhashat-hum al`awalimu

when they have felt lonely because of the other worlds.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي هَدَيْتَهُمْ

wa anta alladhi hadaytahum

You alone have guided them

حَيْثُ ٱسْتَبَانَتْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَعَالِمُ

haythu istabanat lahum alma`alimu

so that all other worlds manifested themselves before them.

مَاذَا وَجَدَ مَنْ فَقَدَكَ؟

madha wajada man faqadaka

What can one who misses You find any substitute?

وَمَا ٱلَّذِي فَقَدَ مَنْ وَجَدَكَ؟

wa ma alladhi faqada man wajadaka

What can one who finds You miss anything else?

لَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ رَضِيَ دُونَكَ بَدَلاً

laqad khaba man radiya dunaka badalan

Definitely, failing is he who has accepted anyone other than You as substitute.

وَلَقَدْ خَسِرَ مَنْ بَغَىٰ عَنْكَ مُتَحَوِّلاً

wa laqad khasira man bagha `anka mutahawwilan

Definitely, loser is he who have desired for anyone other than You.

كَيْفَ يُرْجَىٰ سِوَاكَ

kayfa yurja siwaka

How can anyone other than You be hoped

وَأَنْتَ مَا قَطَعْتَ ٱلإِحْسَانَ؟

wa anta ma qata`ta al'ihsana

whilst You have never stopped Your bounties?

وَكَيْفَ يُطْلَبُ مِنْ غَيْرِكَ

wa kayfa yutlabu min ghayrika

How can anyone other than You be besought

وَأَنْتَ مَا بَدَّلْتَ عَادَةَ ٱلاِﹾمْتِنَانِ؟

wa anta ma baddalta `adata alimtinani

whilst You have never changed Your habit of ceaseless bestowal?

يَا مَنْ أَذَاقَ أَحِبَّاءَهُ حَلاَوَةَ ٱلْمُؤَانَسَةِ

ya man adhaqa ahibba'ahu halawata almu'anasati

O He Who has made His lovers the sweet taste of entertainment;

فَقَامُوٱ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مُتَمَلِّقِينَ

faqamu bayna yadayhi mutamalliqina

therefore, they have stood up before Him flattering Him!

وَيَا مَنْ أَلْبَسَ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ مَلاَبِسَ هَيْبَتِهِ

wa ya man albasa awliya'ahu malabisa haybatihi

O He Who has dressed His intimate servants the garments of fearing Him;

فَقَامُوٱ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مُسْتَغْفِرِينَ

faqamu bayna yadayhi mustaghfirina

therefore, they have stood before Him seeking His forgiveness!

أَنْتَ ٱلذَّاكِرُ قَبْلَ ٱلذَّاكِرِينَ

anta aldhdhakiru qabla aldhdhakirina

You do mention the others (with bounties) before they mention You.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْبَادِئُ بِٱلإِحْسَانِ قَبْلَ تَوَجُّهِ ٱلْعَابِدِينَ

wa anta albadi'u bil'ihsani qabla tawajjuhi al`abidina

You do spread Your compassion before the worshippers direct towards You.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْجَوَادُ بِٱلْعَطَاءِ قَبْلَ طَلَبِ ٱلطَّالِبِينَ

wa anta aljawadu bil`ata'i qabla talabi alttalibina

You do give generously before You are asked.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ ثُمَّ لِمَا وَهَبْتَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُسْتَقْرِضِينَ

wa anta alwahhabu thumma lima wahabta lana min almustaqridina

You do bestow upon us and then borrow from us that which You have bestowed upon us.

إِلٰهِي ٱطْلُبْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ حَتَّىٰ أَصِلَ إِلَيْكَ

ilahi utlubni birahmatika hatta asila ilayka

O my God, (please do) refer to me with Your mercy so that I will appear before You.

وَٱجْذِبْنِي بِمَنِّكَ حَتَّىٰ أُقْبِلَ عَلَيْكَ

wajdhibni bimannika hatta uqbila `alayka

(Please do) draw me towards You through Your endless favoring so that I will advance to You.

إِلٰهِي إِنَّ رَجَائِي لاَ يَنْقَطِعُ عَنْكَ وَإِنْ عَصَيْتُكَ

ilahi inna raja'i la yanqati`u `anka wa in `asaytuka

O my God, verily, my hope for You does not cease despite that I may disobey You.

كَمَا أَنَّ خَوفِي لاَ يُزَايِلُنِي وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُكَ

kama anna khawfi la yuzayiluni wa in ata`tuka

Similarly, my fear from You does not leave me even if I obey You.

فَقَدْ دَفَعَتْنِيَ ٱلْعَوَالِمُ إِلَيْكَ

faqad dafa`atni al`awalimu ilayka

The Worlds have pushed me towards You

وَقَدْ أَوْقَعَنِي عِلْمِي بِكَرَمِكَ عَلَيْكَ

wa qad awqa`ani `ilmi bikaramika `alayka

and my acquaintance with Your magnanimity has led me to You.

إِلٰهِي كَيْفَ أَخِيبُ وَأَنْتَ أَمَلِي؟

ilahi kayfa akhibu wa anta amali

O my God, how can I fail whilst You are my hope?

أَمْ كَيْفَ أُهَانُ وَعَلَيْكَ مُتَّكَلِي؟

am kayfa uhanu wa `alayka muttakali

How can I be humiliated whilst I depend upon You?

إِلٰهِي كَيْفَ أَسْتَعِزُّ وَفِي ٱلذِّلَّةِ أَرْكَزْتَنِي؟

ilahi kayfa asta`izzu wa fi aldhdhillati arkaztani

How can see dignity if You fix me in humiliation?

أَمْ كَيْفَ لاَ أَسْتَعِزُّ وَإِلَيْكَ نَسَبْتَنِي؟

am kayfa la asta`izzu wa ilayka nasabtani

How can I not see dignity whilst You have referred me to You?

إِلٰهِي كَيْفَ لاَ أَفْتَقِرُ وَأَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي فِي ٱلْفُقَرَاءِ أَقَمْتَنِي؟

ilahi kayfa la aftaqiru wa anta alladhi fi alfuqara'i aqamtani

O my God, how can I not be needy whilst it is You Who have lodged me among the needy?

أَمْ كَيْفَ أَفْتَقِرُ وَأَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي بِجُودِكَ أَغْنَيْتَنِي؟

am kayfa aftaqiru wa anta alladhi bijudika aghnaytani

How can I be needy whilst You have made me rich out of Your magnanimity?

وَأَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي لاَ إِلٰهَ غَيْرُكَ

wa anta alladhi la ilaha ghayruka

It is You, there is no god save You,

تَعَرَّفْتَ لِكُلِّ شَيْء فَمَا جَهِلَكَ شَيْءٌ

ta`arrafta likulli shay'in fama jahilaka shay'un

Who have introduced Yourself to all things; therefore, nothing has ever ignored You.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلَّذِي تَعَرَّفْتَ إِلَيَّ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

wa anta alladhi ta`arrafta ilayya fi kulli shay'in

It is You Who have introduced Yourself to me in all things;

فَرَأَيْتُكَ ظَاهِراً فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ

fara'aytuka zahiran fi kulli shay'in

therefore, I have seen You Manifest in all things.

وَأَنْتَ ٱلظَّاهِرُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ

wa anta alzzahiru likulli shay'in

It is You Who give manifestation to all things.

يَا مَنِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ بِرَحْمَانِيَّتِهِ

ya man istawa birahmaniyyatihi

O He Who is firm in power through His All-beneficence;

فَصَارَ ٱلْعَرْشُ غَيْباً فِي ذَاتِهِ

fasara al`arshu ghayban fi dhatihi

therefore, the Throne has become unseen in His Essence.

مَحَقْتَ ٱلآثَارَ بِٱلآثَارِ

mahaqta al'athara bil'athari

You have erased the traces by the traces;

وَمَحَوْتَ ٱلأَغْيَارَ بِمُحِيطَاتِ أَفْلاَكِ ٱلأَنْوَارِ

wa mahawta al'aghyara bimuhitati aflaki al'anwari

and You have erased the changeable by the surroundings of the orbits of lights.

يَا مَنِ ٱحْتَجَبَ فِي سُرَادِقَاتِ عَرْشِهِ

ya man ihtajaba fi suradiqati `arshihi

O He Who has screened Himself in the curtains of His Throne;

عَنْ أَنْ تُدْرِكَهُ ٱلأَبْصَارُ

`an an tudrikahu al-absaru

hence, He cannot be comprehended by visions!

يَا مَنْ تَجَلَّىٰ بِكَمَالِ بَهَائِهِ

ya man tajalla bikamali baha'ihi

O He Who has manifested Himself with His perfect Magnificence;

فَتَحَقَّقَتْ عَظَمَتُهُ مِنَ ٱلاِﹾسْتِوَاءِ

fatahaqqaqat `azamatuhu min alistiwa'i

therefore, His Grandeur of being firm in power.

كَيْفَ تَخْفَىٰ وَأَنْتَ ٱلظَّاهِرُ؟

kayfa takhfa wa anta alzzahiru

How can You be hidden whilst You are the Manifester (of all things)?

أَمْ كَيْفَ تَغِيبُ وَأَنْتَ ٱلرَّقِيبُ ٱلْحَاضِرُ؟

am kayfa taghibu wa anta alrraqibu alhadiru

Or how can You be absent whilst You are the Watcher (over all things) and the Present (at all times).

إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

innaka `ala kulli shay'in qadirun

Verily, You have power over all things.

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَحْدَهُ

walhamdu lillahi wahdahu

All praise be to Allah alone.
