Surah An-Noor

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 24:1

   سُورَةٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهَا وَفَرَضْنَـٰهَا وَأَنزَلْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَـٰتٍۭ بَيِّنَـٰتٍ لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ﴿١﴾

   sūratun ˈanzalnāhā wa-faraḍnāhā wa-ˈanzalnā fīhā ˈāyātin bayyinātin laʿallakum taḏakkarūna

   [This is] a surah which We have sent down and prescribed, and We have sent down in it manifest signs so that you may take admonition.

2. 24:2

   ٱلزَّانِيَةُ وَٱلزَّانِى فَٱجْلِدُوا۟ كُلَّ وَٰحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا مِا۟ئَةَ جَلْدَةٍ ۖ وَلَا تَأْخُذْكُم بِهِمَا رَأْفَةٌ فِى دِينِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۖ وَلْيَشْهَدْ عَذَابَهُمَا طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٢﴾

   az-zāniyatu wa-z-zānī fa-ǧlidū kulla wāḥidin minhumā miˈata ǧaldatin wa-lā taˈḫuḏkum bihimā raˈfatun fī dīni llāhi ˈin kuntum tuˈminūna bi-llāhi wa-l-yawmi l-ˈāḫiri wa-l-yašhad ʿaḏābahumā ṭāˈifatun mina l-muˈminīna

   As for the fornicatress and the fornicator, strike each of them a hundred lashes, and let not pity for them overcome you in Allah’s law, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day, and let their punishment be witnessed by a group of the faithful.

3. 24:3

   ٱلزَّانِى لَا يَنكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُشْرِكَةً وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَآ إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌ ۚ وَحُرِّمَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٣﴾

   az-zānī lā yankiḥu ˈillā zāniyatan ˈaw mušrikatan wa-z-zāniyatu lā yankiḥuhā ˈillā zānin ˈaw mušrikun wa-ḥurrima ḏālika ʿalā l-muˈminīna

   The fornicator will not marry anyone but a fornicatress or an idolatress, and the fornicatress will be married by none except a fornicator or an idolater, and that is forbidden to the faithful.

4. 24:4

   وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُوا۟ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ فَٱجْلِدُوهُمْ ثَمَـٰنِينَ جَلْدَةً وَلَا تَقْبَلُوا۟ لَهُمْ شَهَـٰدَةً أَبَدًا ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ﴿٤﴾

   wa-llaḏīna yarmūna l-muḥṣanāti ṯumma lam yaˈtū bi-ˈarbaʿati šuhadāˈa fa-ǧlidūhum ṯamānīna ǧaldatan wa-lā taqbalū lahum šahādatan ˈabadan wa-ˈulāˈika humu l-fāsiqūna

   As for those who accuse chaste women and do not bring four witnesses, strike them eighty lashes, and never accept any testimony from them after that, and they are transgressors,

5. 24:5

   إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿٥﴾

   ˈillā llaḏīna tābū min baʿdi ḏālika wa-ˈaṣlaḥū fa-ˈinna llāha ġafūrun raḥīmun

   excepting those who repent after that and reform, for Allah is indeed all-forgiving, all-merciful.

6. 24:6

   وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ أَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ شُهَدَآءُ إِلَّآ أَنفُسُهُمْ فَشَهَـٰدَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ أَرْبَعُ شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭ بِٱللَّهِ ۙ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ﴿٦﴾

   wa-llaḏīna yarmūna ˈazwāǧahum wa-lam yakun lahum šuhadāˈu ˈillā ˈanfusuhum fa-šahādatu ˈaḥadihim ˈarbaʿu šahādātin bi-llāhi ˈinnahū la-mina ṣ-ṣādiqīna

   As for those who accuse their wives [of adultery], but have no witnesses except themselves, the testimony of such a man shall be a fourfold testimony [sworn] by Allah that he is indeed stating the truth,

7. 24:7

   وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةُ أَنَّ لَعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ﴿٧﴾

   wa-l-ḫāmisatu ˈanna laʿnata llāhi ʿalayhi ˈin kāna mina l-kāḏibīna

   and a fifth [oath] that Allah’s wrath shall be upon him if he were lying.

8. 24:8

   وَيَدْرَؤُا۟ عَنْهَا ٱلْعَذَابَ أَن تَشْهَدَ أَرْبَعَ شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭ بِٱللَّهِ ۙ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ﴿٨﴾

   wa-yadraˈu ʿanhā l-ʿaḏāba ˈan tašhada ˈarbaʿa šahādātin bi-llāhi ˈinnahū la-mina l-kāḏibīna

   The punishment shall be averted from her by her testifying with four oaths [sworn] by Allah that he is indeed lying,

9. 24:9

   وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةَ أَنَّ غَضَبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهَآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ﴿٩﴾

   wa-l-ḫāmisata ˈanna ġaḍaba llāhi ʿalayhā ˈin kāna mina ṣ-ṣādiqīna

   and a fifth [oath] that Allah’s wrath shall be upon her if he were stating the truth.

10. 24:10

    وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ حَكِيمٌ﴿١٠﴾

    wa-law-lā faḍlu llāhi ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatuhū wa-ˈanna llāha tawwābun ḥakīmun

    Were it not for Allah’s grace and His mercy upon you, and that Allah is all-clement, all-wise....

11. 24:11

    إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو بِٱلْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌ مِّنكُمْ ۚ لَا تَحْسَبُوهُ شَرًّا لَّكُم ۖ بَلْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ ۚ لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُم مَّا ٱكْتَسَبَ مِنَ ٱلْإِثْمِ ۚ وَٱلَّذِى تَوَلَّىٰ كِبْرَهُۥ مِنْهُمْ لَهُۥ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ﴿١١﴾

    ˈinna llaḏīna ǧāˈū bi-l-ˈifki ʿuṣbatun minkum lā taḥsabūhu šarran lakum bal huwa ḫayrun lakum li-kulli mriˈin minhum mā ktasaba mina l-ˈiṯmi wa-llaḏī tawallā kibrahū minhum lahū ʿaḏābun ʿaẓīmun

    Indeed those who initiated the calumny are a group from among yourselves. Do not suppose it is bad thing for you. No, it is for your good. Each man among them bears [the onus for] his share in the sin, and as for him who assumed its major burden from among them, there is a great punishment for him.

12. 24:12

    لَّوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ ظَنَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتُ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًا وَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَآ إِفْكٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿١٢﴾

    law-lā ˈiḏ samiʿtumūhu ẓanna l-muˈminūna wa-l-muˈminātu bi-ˈanfusihim ḫayran wa-qālū hāḏā ˈifkun mubīnun

    When you [first] heard about it, why did not the faithful, men and women, think well of their folks, and say, ‘This is an obvious calumny’?

13. 24:13

    لَّوْلَا جَآءُو عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ ۚ فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا۟ بِٱلشُّهَدَآءِ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُمُ ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ﴿١٣﴾

    law-lā ǧāˈū ʿalayhi bi-ˈarbaʿati šuhadāˈa fa-ˈiḏ lam yaˈtū bi-š-šuhadāˈi fa-ˈulāˈika ʿinda llāhi humu l-kāḏibūna

    Why did they not bring four witnesses to it? So when they could not bring the witnesses, they are liars in Allah’s sight.

14. 24:14

    وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِى مَآ أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ﴿١٤﴾

    wa-law-lā faḍlu llāhi ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatuhū fī d-dunyā wa-l-ˈāḫirati la-massakum fī mā ˈafaḍtum fīhi ʿaḏābun ʿaẓīmun

    Were it not for Allah’s grace and His mercy upon you in this world and the Hereafter, there would have befallen you a great punishment for what you ventured into,

15. 24:15

    إِذْ تَلَقَّوْنَهُۥ بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَتَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَاهِكُم مَّا لَيْسَ لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ وَتَحْسَبُونَهُۥ هَيِّنًا وَهُوَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ عَظِيمٌ﴿١٥﴾

    ˈiḏ talaqqawnahū bi-ˈalsinatikum wa-taqūlūna bi-ˈafwāhikum mā laysa lakum bihī ʿilmun wa-taḥsabūnahū hayyinan wa-huwa ʿinda llāhi ʿaẓīmun

    when you were receiving it on your tongues, and were mouthing something of which you had no knowledge, supposing it to be a light matter, while it was a grave [matter] with Allah.

16. 24:16

    وَلَوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ قُلْتُم مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَـٰذَا سُبْحَـٰنَكَ هَـٰذَا بُهْتَـٰنٌ عَظِيمٌ﴿١٦﴾

    wa-law-lā ˈiḏ samiʿtumūhu qultum mā yakūnu lanā ˈan natakallama bi-hāḏā subḥānaka hāḏā buhtānun ʿaẓīmun

    And why did you not, when you heard it, say, ‘It is not for us to say such a thing. [O Allah!] You are immaculate! This is a monstrous calumny!’

17. 24:17

    يَعِظُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَن تَعُودُوا۟ لِمِثْلِهِۦٓ أَبَدًا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ﴿١٧﴾

    yaʿiẓukumu llāhu ˈan taʿūdū li-miṯlihī ˈabadan ˈin kuntum muˈminīna

    Allah advises you lest you should ever repeat the like of it, should you be faithful.

18. 24:18

    وَيُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ﴿١٨﴾

    wa-yubayyinu llāhu lakumu l-ˈāyāti wa-llāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun

    Allah clarifies the signs for you, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.

19. 24:19

    إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَن تَشِيعَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةُ فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ﴿١٩﴾

    ˈinna llaḏīna yuḥibbūna ˈan tašīʿa l-fāḥišatu fī llaḏīna ˈāmanū lahum ʿaḏābun ˈalīmun fī d-dunyā wa-l-ˈāḫirati wa-llāhu yaʿlamu wa-ˈantum lā taʿlamūna

    Indeed those who want indecency to spread among the faithful—there is a painful punishment for them in the world and the Hereafter, and Allah knows and you do not know.

20. 24:20

    وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-law-lā faḍlu llāhi ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatuhū wa-ˈanna llāha raˈūfun raḥīmun

    Were it not for Allah’s grace and His mercy upon you, and that Allah is all-kind, all-merciful…

21. 24:21

    يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۚ وَمَن يَتَّبِعْ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ مَا زَكَىٰ مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ أَبَدًا وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزَكِّى مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ﴿٢١﴾

    yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā tattabiʿū ḫuṭuwāti š-šayṭāni wa-man yattabiʿ ḫuṭuwāti š-šayṭāni fa-ˈinnahū yaˈmuru bi-l-faḥšāˈi wa-l-munkari wa-law-lā faḍlu llāhi ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatuhū mā zakā minkum min ˈaḥadin ˈabadan wa-lākinna llāha yuzakkī man yašāˈu wa-llāhu samīʿun ʿalīmun

    O you who have faith! Do not follow in Satan’s steps. Whoever follows in Satan’s steps [should know that] he indeed prompts [you to commit] indecent and wrongful acts. Were it not for Allah’s grace and His mercy upon you, not one of you would ever become pure. But Allah purifies whomever He wishes, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing.

22. 24:22

    وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْفَضْلِ مِنكُمْ وَٱلسَّعَةِ أَن يُؤْتُوٓا۟ أُو۟لِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينَ وَٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَلْيَعْفُوا۟ وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓا۟ ۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿٢٢﴾

    wa-lā yaˈtali ˈulū l-faḍli minkum wa-s-saʿati ˈan yuˈtū ˈulī l-qurbā wa-l-masākīna wa-l-muhāǧirīna fī sabīli llāhi wa-l-yaʿfū wa-l-yaṣfaḥū ˈa-lā tuḥibbūna ˈan yaġfira llāhu lakum wa-llāhu ġafūrun raḥīmun

    The well-off and the opulent among you should not vow that they will not give [any longer] to the relatives and the needy, and to those who have migrated in the way of Allah, and let them excuse and forbear. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.

23. 24:23

    إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ٱلْغَـٰفِلَـٰتِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ لُعِنُوا۟ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ﴿٢٣﴾

    ˈinna llaḏīna yarmūna l-muḥṣanāti l-ġāfilāti l-muˈmināti luʿinū fī d-dunyā wa-l-ˈāḫirati wa-lahum ʿaḏābun ʿaẓīmun

    Indeed those who accuse chaste and unwary faithful women shall be cursed in this world and the Hereafter, and there shall be a great punishment for them

24. 24:24

    يَوْمَ تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ﴿٢٤﴾

    yawma tašhadū ʿalayhim ˈalsinatuhum wa-ˈaydīhim wa-ˈarǧuluhum bi-mā kānū yaʿmalūna

    on the day when witness shall be given against them by their tongues, their hands, and their feet concerning what they used to do.

25. 24:25

    يَوْمَئِذٍ يُوَفِّيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ دِينَهُمُ ٱلْحَقَّ وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ ٱلْمُبِينُ﴿٢٥﴾

    yawmaˈiḏin yuwaffīhimu llāhu dīnahumu l-ḥaqqa wa-yaʿlamūna ˈanna llāha huwa l-ḥaqqu l-mubīnu

    On that day, Allah will pay them in full their due recompense, and they shall know that Allah is the Manifest Reality.

26. 24:26

    ٱلْخَبِيثَـٰتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ وَٱلْخَبِيثُونَ لِلْخَبِيثَـٰتِ ۖ وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ وَٱلطَّيِّبُونَ لِلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مُبَرَّءُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ ۖ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ﴿٢٦﴾

    al-ḫabīṯātu li-l-ḫabīṯīna wa-l-ḫabīṯūna li-l-ḫabīṯāti wa-ṭ-ṭayyibātu li-ṭ-ṭayyibīna wa-ṭ-ṭayyibūna li-ṭ-ṭayyibāti ˈulāˈika mubarraˈūna mimmā yaqūlūna lahum maġfiratun wa-rizqun karīmun

    Vicious women are for vicious men, and vicious men for vicious women. Good women are for good men, and good men for good women. These are absolved of what they say [about them]. For them is forgiveness and a noble provision.

27. 24:27

    يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَدْخُلُوا۟ بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ بُيُوتِكُمْ حَتَّىٰ تَسْتَأْنِسُوا۟ وَتُسَلِّمُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ﴿٢٧﴾

    yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā tadḫulū buyūtan ġayra buyūtikum ḥattā tastaˈnisū wa-tusallimū ʿalā ˈahlihā ḏālikum ḫayrun lakum laʿallakum taḏakkarūna

    O you who have faith! Do not enter houses other than your own until you have announced [your arrival] and greeted their occupants. That is better for you. Maybe you will take admonition.

28. 24:28

    فَإِن لَّمْ تَجِدُوا۟ فِيهَآ أَحَدًا فَلَا تَدْخُلُوهَا حَتَّىٰ يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِن قِيلَ لَكُمُ ٱرْجِعُوا۟ فَٱرْجِعُوا۟ ۖ هُوَ أَزْكَىٰ لَكُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ﴿٢٨﴾

    fa-ˈin lam taǧidū fīhā ˈaḥadan fa-lā tadḫulūhā ḥattā yuˈḏana lakum wa-ˈin qīla lakumu rǧiʿū fa-rǧiʿū huwa ˈazkā lakum wa-llāhu bi-mā taʿmalūna ʿalīmun

    But if you do not find anyone in them, do not enter them until you are given permission. And if you are told: ‘Turn back,’ then do turn back. That is more decent for you. Allah knows best what you do.

29. 24:29

    لَّيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَدْخُلُوا۟ بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ مَسْكُونَةٍ فِيهَا مَتَـٰعٌ لَّكُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا تَكْتُمُونَ﴿٢٩﴾

    laysa ʿalaykum ǧunāḥun ˈan tadḫulū buyūtan ġayra maskūnatin fīhā matāʿun lakum wa-llāhu yaʿlamu mā tubdūna wa-mā taktumūna

    There will be no sin upon you in entering [without announcing] uninhabited houses wherein you have goods belonging to you. Allah knows whatever you disclose and whatever you conceal.

30. 24:30

    قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا۟ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا۟ فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ﴿٣٠﴾

    qul li-l-muˈminīna yaġuḍḍū min ˈabṣārihim wa-yaḥfaẓū furūǧahum ḏālika ˈazkā lahum ˈinna llāha ḫabīrun bi-mā yaṣnaʿūna

    Tell the faithful men to cast down their looks and to guard their private parts. That is more decent for them. Allah is indeed well aware of what they do.

31. 24:31

    وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ ۖ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ ءَابَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَآءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِىٓ أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَآئِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُنَّ أَوِ ٱلتَّـٰبِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُو۟لِى ٱلْإِرْبَةِ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ أَوِ ٱلطِّفْلِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَظْهَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰ عَوْرَٰتِ ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۖ وَلَا يَضْرِبْنَ بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِيُعْلَمَ مَا يُخْفِينَ مِن زِينَتِهِنَّ ۚ وَتُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ﴿٣١﴾

    wa-qul li-l-muˈmināti yaġḍuḍna min ˈabṣārihinna wa-yaḥfaẓna furūǧahunna wa-lā yubdīna zīnatahunna ˈillā mā ẓahara minhā wa-l-yaḍribna bi-ḫumurihinna ʿalā ǧuyūbihinna wa-lā yubdīna zīnatahunna ˈillā li-buʿūlatihinna ˈaw ˈābāˈihinna ˈaw ˈābāˈi buʿūlatihinna ˈaw ˈabnāˈihinna ˈaw ˈabnāˈi buʿūlatihinna ˈaw ˈiḫwānihinna ˈaw banī ˈiḫwānihinna ˈaw banī ˈaḫawātihinna ˈaw nisāˈihinna ˈaw mā malakat ˈaymānuhunna ˈawi t-tābiʿīna ġayri ˈulī l-ˈirbati mina r-riǧāli ˈawi ṭ-ṭifli llaḏīna lam yaẓharū ʿalā ʿawrāti n-nisāˈi wa-lā yaḍribna bi-ˈarǧulihinna li-yuʿlama mā yuḫfīna min zīnatihinna wa-tūbū ˈilā llāhi ǧamīʿan ˈayyuha l-muˈminūna laʿallakum tufliḥūna

    And tell the faithful women to cast down their looks and to guard their private parts, and not to display their charms, beyond what is [acceptably] visible, and let them draw their scarfs over their bosoms, and not display their charms except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their women, or their slave girls, or male dependants lacking [sexual] desire, or children who are not yet conscious of female sexuality. And let them not thump their feet to make known their hidden ornaments. Rally to Allah in repentance, O faithful, so that you may be felicitous.

32. 24:32

    وَأَنكِحُوا۟ ٱلْأَيَـٰمَىٰ مِنكُمْ وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَآئِكُمْ ۚ إِن يَكُونُوا۟ فُقَرَآءَ يُغْنِهِمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ﴿٣٢﴾

    wa-ˈankiḥū l-ˈayāmā minkum wa-ṣ-ṣāliḥīna min ʿibādikum wa-ˈimāˈikum ˈin yakūnū fuqarāˈa yuġnihimu llāhu min faḍlihī wa-llāhu wāsiʿun ʿalīmun

    Marry off those who are single among you, and the upright among your male and female slaves. If they are poor, Allah will enrich them out of His grace, and Allah is all-bounteous, all-knowing.

33. 24:33

    وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ نِكَاحًا حَتَّىٰ يُغْنِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَبْتَغُونَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِمَّا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ فَكَاتِبُوهُمْ إِنْ عَلِمْتُمْ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًا ۖ وَءَاتُوهُم مِّن مَّالِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِىٓ ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۚ وَلَا تُكْرِهُوا۟ فَتَيَـٰتِكُمْ عَلَى ٱلْبِغَآءِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَ تَحَصُّنًا لِّتَبْتَغُوا۟ عَرَضَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ وَمَن يُكْرِههُّنَّ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ إِكْرَٰهِهِنَّ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿٣٣﴾

    wa-l-yastaʿfifi llaḏīna lā yaǧidūna nikāḥan ḥattā yuġniyahumu llāhu min faḍlihī wa-llaḏīna yabtaġūna l-kitāba mimmā malakat ˈaymānukum fa-kātibūhum ˈin ʿalimtum fīhim ḫayran wa-ˈātūhum min māli llāhi llaḏī ˈātākum wa-lā tukrihū fatayātikum ʿalā l-biġāˈi ˈin ˈaradna taḥaṣṣunan li-tabtaġū ʿaraḍa l-ḥayāti d-dunyā wa-man yukrihhunna fa-ˈinna llāha min baʿdi ˈikrāhihinna ġafūrun raḥīmun

    Those who cannot afford marriage should be continent until Allah enriches them out of His grace. As for those who seek an emancipation deal from among your slaves, make such a deal with them if you know any good in them, and give them out of the wealth of Allah which He has given you. Do not compel your female slaves to prostitution when they desire to be chaste, seeking the transitory wares of the life of this world. Should anyone compel them, Allah will be forgiving and merciful to them following their compulsion.

34. 24:34

    وَلَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتٍ مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍ وَمَثَلًا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوْا۟ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿٣٤﴾

    wa-la-qad ˈanzalnā ˈilaykum ˈāyātin mubayyinātin wa-maṯalan mina llaḏīna ḫalaw min qablikum wa-mawʿiẓatan li-l-muttaqīna

    Certainly We have sent down to you manifest signs and a description of those who passed before you, and an advice for the Godwary.

35. 24:35

    ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ مَثَلُ نُورِهِۦ كَمِشْكَوٰةٍ فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌ ۖ ٱلْمِصْبَاحُ فِى زُجَاجَةٍ ۖ ٱلزُّجَاجَةُ كَأَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌ دُرِّىٌّ يُوقَدُ مِن شَجَرَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ زَيْتُونَةٍ لَّا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍ يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِىٓءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌ ۚ نُّورٌ عَلَىٰ نُورٍ ۗ يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ لِنُورِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَيَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلَ لِلنَّاسِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ﴿٣٥﴾

    allāhu nūru s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi maṯalu nūrihī ka-miškātin fīhā miṣbāḥun-i l-miṣbāḥu fī zuǧāǧatin-i z-zuǧāǧatu ka-ˈannahā kawkabun durriyyun yūqadu min šaǧaratin mubārakatin zaytūnatin lā šarqiyyatin wa-lā ġarbiyyatin yakādu zaytuhā yuḍīˈu wa-law-lam tamsashu nārun nūrun ʿalā nūrin yahdī llāhu li-nūrihī man yašāˈu wa-yaḍribu llāhu l-ˈamṯāla li-n-nāsi wa-llāhu bi-kulli šayˈin ʿalīmun

    Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His Light is a niche wherein is a lamp—the lamp is in a glass, the glass as it were a glittering star—lit from a blessed olive tree, neither eastern nor western, whose oil almost lights up, though fire should not touch it. Light upon light. Allah guides to His Light whomever He wishes. Allah draws parables for mankind, and Allah has knowledge of all things.

36. 24:36

    فِى بُيُوتٍ أَذِنَ ٱللَّهُ أَن تُرْفَعَ وَيُذْكَرَ فِيهَا ٱسْمُهُۥ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ فِيهَا بِٱلْغُدُوِّ وَٱلْـَٔاصَالِ﴿٣٦﴾

    fī buyūtin ˈaḏina llāhu ˈan turfaʿa wa-yuḏkara fīhā smuhū yusabbiḥu lahū fīhā bi-l-ġuduwwi wa-l-ˈāṣāli

    In houses Allah has allowed to be raised and wherein His Name is celebrated; He is glorified therein, morning and evening,

37. 24:37

    رِجَالٌ لَّا تُلْهِيهِمْ تِجَـٰرَةٌ وَلَا بَيْعٌ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ وَإِقَامِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِيتَآءِ ٱلزَّكَوٰةِ ۙ يَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا تَتَقَلَّبُ فِيهِ ٱلْقُلُوبُ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرُ﴿٣٧﴾

    riǧālun lā tulhīhim tiǧāratun wa-lā bayʿun ʿan ḏikri llāhi wa-ˈiqāmi ṣ-ṣalāti wa-ˈītāˈi z-zakāti yaḫāfūna yawman tataqallabu fīhi l-qulūbu wa-l-ˈabṣāru

    by men whom neither trade nor bargaining distracts from the remembrance of Allah and the maintenance of prayer and the giving of zakat. They are fearful of a day wherein the hearts and the sights will be transformed,

38. 24:38

    لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَيَزِيدَهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ﴿٣٨﴾

    li-yaǧziyahumu llāhu ˈaḥsana mā ʿamilū wa-yazīdahum min faḍlihī wa-llāhu yarzuqu man yašāˈu bi-ġayri ḥisābin

    so that Allah may reward them by the best of what they have done, and enhance them out of His grace, and Allah provides for whomever He wishes without any reckoning.

39. 24:39

    وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ كَسَرَابٍۭ بِقِيعَةٍ يَحْسَبُهُ ٱلظَّمْـَٔانُ مَآءً حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَهُۥ لَمْ يَجِدْهُ شَيْـًٔا وَوَجَدَ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥ فَوَفَّىٰهُ حِسَابَهُۥ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ﴿٣٩﴾

    wa-llaḏīna kafarū ˈaʿmāluhum ka-sarābin bi-qīʿatin yaḥsabuhu ẓ-ẓamˈānu māˈan ḥattā ˈiḏā ǧāˈahū lam yaǧidhu šayˈan wa-waǧada llāha ʿindahū fa-waffāhu ḥisābahū wa-llāhu sarīʿu l-ḥisābi

    As for the faithless, their works are like a mirage in a plain, which the thirsty man supposes to be water. When he comes to it, he finds it to be nothing; but there he finds Allah, who will pay him his full account, and Allah is swift at reckoning.

40. 24:40

    أَوْ كَظُلُمَـٰتٍ فِى بَحْرٍ لُّجِّىٍّ يَغْشَىٰهُ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ مَوْجٌ مِّن فَوْقِهِۦ سَحَابٌ ۚ ظُلُمَـٰتٌۢ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ إِذَآ أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُۥ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَىٰهَا ۗ وَمَن لَّمْ يَجْعَلِ ٱللَّهُ لَهُۥ نُورًا فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن نُّورٍ﴿٤٠﴾

    ˈaw ka-ẓulumātin fī baḥrin luǧǧiyyin yaġšāhu mawǧun min fawqihī mawǧun min fawqihī saḥābun ẓulumātun baʿḍuhā fawqa baʿḍin ˈiḏā ˈaḫraǧa yadahū lam yakad yarāhā wa-man lam yaǧʿali llāhu lahū nūran fa-mā lahū min nūrin

    Or like the manifold darkness in a deep sea, covered by billow upon billow, overcast by clouds; manifold [layers of] darkness, one on top of another: when he brings out his hand, he can hardly see it. One whom Allah has not granted any light has no light.

41. 24:41

    أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلطَّيْرُ صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍ ۖ كُلٌّ قَدْ عَلِمَ صَلَاتَهُۥ وَتَسْبِيحَهُۥ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ﴿٤١﴾

    ˈa-lam tara ˈanna llāha yusabbiḥu lahū man fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-ṭ-ṭayru ṣāffātin kullun qad ʿalima ṣalātahū wa-tasbīḥahū wa-llāhu ʿalīmun bi-mā yafʿalūna

    Have you not regarded that Allah is glorified by everyone in the heavens and the earth, and the birds spreading their wings. Each knows his prayer and glorification, and Allah knows best what they do.

42. 24:42

    وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ﴿٤٢﴾

    wa-li-llāhi mulku s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-ˈilā llāhi l-maṣīru

    To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and toward Allah is the destination.

43. 24:43

    أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُزْجِى سَحَابًا ثُمَّ يُؤَلِّفُ بَيْنَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُۥ رُكَامًا فَتَرَى ٱلْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَـٰلِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مِن جِبَالٍ فِيهَا مِنۢ بَرَدٍ فَيُصِيبُ بِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَصْرِفُهُۥ عَن مَّن يَشَآءُ ۖ يَكَادُ سَنَا بَرْقِهِۦ يَذْهَبُ بِٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ﴿٤٣﴾

    ˈa-lam tara ˈanna llāha yuzǧī saḥāban ṯumma yuˈallifu baynahū ṯumma yaǧʿaluhū rukāman fa-tarā l-wadqa yaḫruǧu min ḫilālihī wa-yunazzilu mina s-samāˈi min ǧibālin fīhā min baradin fa-yuṣību bihī man yašāˈu wa-yaṣrifuhū ʿan man yašāˈu yakādu sanā barqihī yaḏhabu bi-l-ˈabṣāri

    Have you not regarded that Allah drives the clouds, then He composes them, then He piles them up, whereat you see the rain issuing from its midst? And He sends down hail from the sky, out of the mountains that are in it, and He strikes with it whomever He wishes, and turns it away from whomever He wishes. The brilliance of its lightening almost takes away the sight.

44. 24:44

    يُقَلِّبُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ﴿٤٤﴾

    yuqallibu llāhu l-layla wa-n-nahāra ˈinna fī ḏālika la-ʿibratan li-ˈulī l-ˈabṣāri

    Allah alternates the night and the day. There is indeed a lesson in that for those who have insight.

45. 24:45

    وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَ كُلَّ دَآبَّةٍ مِّن مَّآءٍ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّن يَمْشِى عَلَىٰ بَطْنِهِۦ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَمْشِى عَلَىٰ رِجْلَيْنِ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَمْشِى عَلَىٰٓ أَرْبَعٍ ۚ يَخْلُقُ ٱللَّهُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ﴿٤٥﴾

    wa-llāhu ḫalaqa kulla dābbatin min māˈin fa-minhum man yamšī ʿalā baṭnihī wa-minhum man yamšī ʿalā riǧlayni wa-minhum man yamšī ʿalā ˈarbaʿin yaḫluqu llāhu mā yašāˈu ˈinna llāha ʿalā kulli šayˈin qadīrun

    Allah created every animal from water. Among them are some that creep upon their bellies, and among them are some that walk on two feet, and among them are some that walk on four. Allah creates whatever He wishes. Indeed Allah has power over all things.

46. 24:46

    لَّقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ ءَايَـٰتٍ مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ﴿٤٦﴾

    la-qad ˈanzalnā ˈāyātin mubayyinātin wa-llāhu yahdī man yašāˈu ˈilā ṣirāṭin mustaqīmin

    Certainly We have sent down illuminating signs, and Allah guides whomever He wishes to a straight path.

47. 24:47

    وَيَقُولُونَ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلرَّسُولِ وَأَطَعْنَا ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّىٰ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَمَآ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٤٧﴾

    wa-yaqūlūna ˈāmannā bi-llāhi wa-bi-r-rasūli wa-ˈaṭaʿnā ṯumma yatawallā farīqun minhum min baʿdi ḏālika wa-mā ˈulāˈika bi-l-muˈminīna

    They say, ‘We have faith in Allah and His Apostle, and we obey.’ Then, after that, a part of them refuse to comply, and they do not have faith.

48. 24:48

    وَإِذَا دُعُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ﴿٤٨﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā duʿū ˈilā llāhi wa-rasūlihī li-yaḥkuma baynahum ˈiḏā farīqun minhum muʿriḍūna

    When they are summoned to Allah and His Apostle that He may judge between them, behold, a part of them turn aside.

49. 24:49

    وَإِن يَكُن لَّهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ يَأْتُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ مُذْعِنِينَ﴿٤٩﴾

    wa-ˈin yakun lahumu l-ḥaqqu yaˈtū ˈilayhi muḏʿinīna

    But if justice be on their side, they come compliantly to him.

50. 24:50

    أَفِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَمِ ٱرْتَابُوٓا۟ أَمْ يَخَافُونَ أَن يَحِيفَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَرَسُولُهُۥ ۚ بَلْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ﴿٥٠﴾

    ˈa-fī qulūbihim maraḍun ˈami rtābū ˈam yaḫāfūna ˈan yaḥīfa llāhu ʿalayhim wa-rasūluhū bal ˈulāˈika humu ẓ-ẓālimūna

    Is there a sickness in their hearts? Do they have doubts, or fear that Allah and His Apostle will be unjust to them? Indeed, it is they who are the wrongdoers.

51. 24:51

    إِنَّمَا كَانَ قَوْلَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذَا دُعُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَن يَقُولُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ﴿٥١﴾

    ˈinnamā kāna qawla l-muˈminīna ˈiḏā duʿū ˈilā llāhi wa-rasūlihī li-yaḥkuma baynahum ˈan yaqūlū samiʿnā wa-ˈaṭaʿnā wa-ˈulāˈika humu l-mufliḥūna

    All the response of the faithful, when they are summoned to Allah and His Apostle that He may judge between them, is to say, ‘We hear and obey.’ It is they who are the felicitous.

52. 24:52

    وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَيَخْشَ ٱللَّهَ وَيَتَّقْهِ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَآئِزُونَ﴿٥٢﴾

    wa-man yuṭiʿi llāha wa-rasūlahū wa-yaḫša llāha wa-yattaqhi fa-ˈulāˈika humu l-fāˈizūna

    Whoever obeys Allah and His Apostle, and fears Allah and is wary of Him—it is they who will be the triumphant.

53. 24:53

    وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ لَئِنْ أَمَرْتَهُمْ لَيَخْرُجُنَّ ۖ قُل لَّا تُقْسِمُوا۟ ۖ طَاعَةٌ مَّعْرُوفَةٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ﴿٥٣﴾

    wa-ˈaqsamū bi-llāhi ǧahda ˈaymānihim la-ˈin ˈamartahum la-yaḫruǧunna qul lā tuqsimū ṭāʿatun maʿrūfatun ˈinna llāha ḫabīrun bi-mā taʿmalūna

    They swear by Allah with solemn oaths that if you order them they will surely march out. Say, ‘Do not swear! Honourable obedience [is all that is expected of you]. Allah is indeed well aware of what you do.’

54. 24:54

    قُلْ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ ۖ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيْكُم مَّا حُمِّلْتُمْ ۖ وَإِن تُطِيعُوهُ تَهْتَدُوا۟ ۚ وَمَا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ﴿٥٤﴾

    qul ˈaṭīʿū llāha wa-ˈaṭīʿū r-rasūla fa-ˈin tawallaw fa-ˈinnamā ʿalayhi mā ḥummila wa-ʿalaykum mā ḥummiltum wa-ˈin tuṭīʿūhu tahtadū wa-mā ʿalā r-rasūli ˈillā l-balāġu l-mubīnu

    Say, ‘Obey Allah, and obey the Apostle.’ But if you turn your backs, [you should know that] he is only responsible for his burden and you are responsible for your own burden, and if you obey him, you will be guided, and the Apostle’s duty is only to communicate in clear terms.

55. 24:55

    وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَمَا ٱسْتَخْلَفَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ دِينَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى ٱرْتَضَىٰ لَهُمْ وَلَيُبَدِّلَنَّهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ خَوْفِهِمْ أَمْنًا ۚ يَعْبُدُونَنِى لَا يُشْرِكُونَ بِى شَيْـًٔا ۚ وَمَن كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ﴿٥٥﴾

    waʿada llāhu llaḏīna ˈāmanū minkum wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti la-yastaḫlifannahum fī l-ˈarḍi ka-mā staḫlafa llaḏīna min qablihim wa-la-yumakkinanna lahum dīnahumu llaḏī rtaḍā lahum wa-la-yubaddilannahum min baʿdi ḫawfihim ˈamnan yaʿbudūnanī lā yušrikūna bī šayˈan wa-man kafara baʿda ḏālika fa-ˈulāˈika humu l-fāsiqūna

    Allah has promised those of you who have faith and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth, just as He made those who were before them successors, and He will surely establish for them their religion which He has approved for them, and that He will surely change their state to security after their fear, while they worship Me, not ascribing any partners to Me. Whoever is ungrateful after that—it is they who are the transgressors.

56. 24:56

    وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ﴿٥٦﴾

    wa-ˈaqīmū ṣ-ṣalāta wa-ˈātū z-zakāta wa-ˈaṭīʿū r-rasūla laʿallakum turḥamūna

    Maintain the prayer and give the zakat, and obey the Apostle so that you may receive [Allah’s] mercy.

57. 24:57

    لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ ۖ وَلَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ﴿٥٧﴾

    lā taḥsabanna llaḏīna kafarū muʿǧizīna fī l-ˈarḍi wa-maˈwāhumu n-nāru wa-la-biˈsa l-maṣīru

    Do not suppose that those who are faithless can frustrate [Allah] on the earth. Their refuge shall be the Fire, and it is surely an evil destination.

58. 24:58

    يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لِيَسْتَـْٔذِنكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا۟ ٱلْحُلُمَ مِنكُمْ ثَلَـٰثَ مَرَّٰتٍ ۚ مِّن قَبْلِ صَلَوٰةِ ٱلْفَجْرِ وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُم مِّنَ ٱلظَّهِيرَةِ وَمِنۢ بَعْدِ صَلَوٰةِ ٱلْعِشَآءِ ۚ ثَلَـٰثُ عَوْرَٰتٍ لَّكُمْ ۚ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَا عَلَيْهِمْ جُنَاحٌۢ بَعْدَهُنَّ ۚ طَوَّٰفُونَ عَلَيْكُم بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ﴿٥٨﴾

    yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū li-yastaˈḏinkumu llaḏīna malakat ˈaymānukum wa-llaḏīna lam yabluġū l-ḥuluma minkum ṯalāṯa marrātin min qabli ṣalāti l-faǧri wa-ḥīna taḍaʿūna ṯiyābakum mina ẓ-ẓahīrati wa-min baʿdi ṣalāti l-ʿišāˈi ṯalāṯu ʿawrātin lakum laysa ʿalaykum wa-lā ʿalayhim ǧunāḥun baʿdahunna ṭawwāfūna ʿalaykum baʿḍukum ʿalā baʿḍin ka-ḏālika yubayyinu llāhu lakumu l-ˈāyāti wa-llāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun

    O you who have faith! Your slaves and any of you who have not yet reached puberty should seek your permission three times: before the dawn prayer, and when you put off your garments at noon, and after the night prayer. These are three times of privacy for you. Apart from these, it is not sinful of you or them to frequent one another [freely]. Thus does Allah clarify the signs for you, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.

59. 24:59

    وَإِذَا بَلَغَ ٱلْأَطْفَـٰلُ مِنكُمُ ٱلْحُلُمَ فَلْيَسْتَـْٔذِنُوا۟ كَمَا ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ﴿٥٩﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā balaġa l-ˈaṭfālu minkumu l-ḥuluma fa-l-yastaˈḏinū ka-mā staˈḏana llaḏīna min qablihim ka-ḏālika yubayyinu llāhu lakum ˈāyātihī wa-llāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun

    When your children reach puberty, let them ask permission [at all times] just as those [who grew up] before them asked permission. Thus does Allah clarify His signs for you, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.

60. 24:60

    وَٱلْقَوَٰعِدُ مِنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ ٱلَّـٰتِى لَا يَرْجُونَ نِكَاحًا فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ جُنَاحٌ أَن يَضَعْنَ ثِيَابَهُنَّ غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَـٰتٍۭ بِزِينَةٍ ۖ وَأَن يَسْتَعْفِفْنَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُنَّ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ﴿٦٠﴾

    wa-l-qawāʿidu mina n-nisāˈi llātī lā yarǧūna nikāḥan fa-laysa ʿalayhinna ǧunāḥun ˈan yaḍaʿna ṯiyābahunna ġayra mutabarriǧātin bi-zīnatin wa-ˈan yastaʿfifna ḫayrun lahunna wa-llāhu samīʿun ʿalīmun

    As for women advanced in years who do not expect to marry, there will be no sin upon them if they put off their cloaks, without displaying their adornment. But it is better for them to be modest, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing.

61. 24:61

    لَّيْسَ عَلَى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلْأَعْرَجِ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَى ٱلْمَرِيضِ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَن تَأْكُلُوا۟ مِنۢ بُيُوتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ ءَابَآئِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ إِخْوَٰنِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَخَوَٰتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَعْمَـٰمِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ عَمَّـٰتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَخْوَٰلِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ خَـٰلَـٰتِكُمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكْتُم مَّفَاتِحَهُۥٓ أَوْ صَدِيقِكُمْ ۚ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَأْكُلُوا۟ جَمِيعًا أَوْ أَشْتَاتًا ۚ فَإِذَا دَخَلْتُم بُيُوتًا فَسَلِّمُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ تَحِيَّةً مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ مُبَـٰرَكَةً طَيِّبَةً ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ﴿٦١﴾

    laysa ʿalā l-ˈaʿmā ḥaraǧun wa-lā ʿalā l-ˈaʿraǧi ḥaraǧun wa-lā ʿalā l-marīḍi ḥaraǧun wa-lā ʿalā ˈanfusikum ˈan taˈkulū min buyūtikum ˈaw buyūti ˈābāˈikum ˈaw buyūti ˈummahātikum ˈaw buyūti ˈiḫwānikum ˈaw buyūti ˈaḫawātikum ˈaw buyūti ˈaʿmāmikum ˈaw buyūti ʿammātikum ˈaw buyūti ˈaḫwālikum ˈaw buyūti ḫālātikum ˈaw mā malaktum mafātiḥahū ˈaw ṣadīqikum laysa ʿalaykum ǧunāḥun ˈan taˈkulū ǧamīʿan ˈaw ˈaštātan fa-ˈiḏā daḫaltum buyūtan fa-sallimū ʿalā ˈanfusikum taḥiyyatan min ʿindi llāhi mubārakatan ṭayyibatan ka-ḏālika yubayyinu llāhu lakumu l-ˈāyāti laʿallakum taʿqilūna

    There is no blame upon the blind, nor any blame upon the lame, nor any blame upon the sick, nor upon yourselves if you eat from your own houses, or your fathers’ houses, or your mothers’ houses, or your brothers’ houses, or your sisters’ houses, or the houses of your paternal uncles, or the houses of your paternal aunts, or the houses of your maternal uncles, or the houses of your maternal aunts, or those whose keys are in your possession, or those of your friends. There will be no blame on you whether you eat together or separately. So when you enter houses, greet yourselves with a salutation from Allah, blessed and good. Thus does Allah clarify His signs for you so that you may exercise your reason.

62. 24:62

    إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَإِذَا كَانُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ جَامِعٍ لَّمْ يَذْهَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَسْتَـْٔذِنُوهُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَـْٔذِنُونَكَ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۚ فَإِذَا ٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَ لِبَعْضِ شَأْنِهِمْ فَأْذَن لِّمَن شِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمُ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿٦٢﴾

    ˈinnamā l-muˈminūna llaḏīna ˈāmanū bi-llāhi wa-rasūlihī wa-ˈiḏā kānū maʿahū ʿalā ˈamrin ǧāmiʿin lam yaḏhabū ḥattā yastaˈḏinūhu ˈinna llaḏīna yastaˈḏinūnaka ˈulāˈika llaḏīna yuˈminūna bi-llāhi wa-rasūlihī fa-ˈiḏā staˈḏanūka li-baʿḍi šaˈnihim fa-ˈḏan li-man šiˈta minhum wa-staġfir lahumu llāha ˈinna llāha ġafūrun raḥīmun

    Indeed the faithful are those who have faith in Allah and His Apostle, and when they are with him in a collective affair, they do not leave until they have sought his permission. Indeed those who seek your permission are those who have faith in Allah and His Apostle. So when they seek your permission for some of theirs [private] work, give permission to whomever of them you wish and plead with Allah to forgive them. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.

63. 24:63

    لَّا تَجْعَلُوا۟ دُعَآءَ ٱلرَّسُولِ بَيْنَكُمْ كَدُعَآءِ بَعْضِكُم بَعْضًا ۚ قَدْ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَسَلَّلُونَ مِنكُمْ لِوَاذًا ۚ فَلْيَحْذَرِ ٱلَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِۦٓ أَن تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ﴿٦٣﴾

    lā taǧʿalū duʿāˈa r-rasūli baynakum ka-duʿāˈi baʿḍikum baʿḍan qad yaʿlamu llāhu llaḏīna yatasallalūna minkum liwāḏan fa-l-yaḥḏari llaḏīna yuḫālifūna ʿan ˈamrihī ˈan tuṣībahum fitnatun ˈaw yuṣībahum ʿaḏābun ˈalīmun

    Do not consider the Apostle’s summons amongst you to be like your summoning one another. Allah certainly knows those of you who slip away shielding one another. Those who disobey his orders should beware lest an affliction should visit them or a painful punishment should befall them.

64. 24:64

    أَلَآ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ قَدْ يَعْلَمُ مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ وَيَوْمَ يُرْجَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَيُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۢ﴿٦٤﴾

    ˈa-lā ˈinna li-llāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi qad yaʿlamu mā ˈantum ʿalayhi wa-yawma yurǧaʿūna ˈilayhi fa-yunabbiˈuhum bi-mā ʿamilū wa-llāhu bi-kulli šayˈin ʿalīmun

    Behold! To Allah indeed belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. He certainly knows your present state. The day they are brought back to Him He will inform them about what they have done, and Allah has knowledge of all things.
