Surah 4
سُورَةُ النِّسَاءِ
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَٰحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالًا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَآءً ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى تَسَآءَلُونَ بِهِۦ وَٱلْأَرْحَامَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا
yā-ˈayyuhā n-nāsu ttaqū rabbakumu llaḏī ḫalaqakum min nafsin wāḥidatin wa-ḫalaqa minhā zawǧahā wa-baṯṯa minhumā riǧālan kaṯīran wa-nisāˈan wa-ttaqū llāha llaḏī tasāˈalūna bihī wa-l-ˈarḥāma ˈinna llāha kāna ʿalaykum raqīban
O mankind! Be wary of your Lord who created you from a single soul, and created its mate from it, and from the two of them scattered numerous men and women. Be wary of Allah, in whose Name you adjure one another and [of severing ties with] blood relations. Indeed Allah is watchful over you.
وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰٓ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تَتَبَدَّلُوا۟ ٱلْخَبِيثَ بِٱلطَّيِّبِ ۖ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوٓا۟ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حُوبًا كَبِيرًا
wa-ˈātū l-yatāmā ˈamwālahum wa-lā tatabaddalū l-ḫabīṯa bi-ṭ-ṭayyibi wa-lā taˈkulū ˈamwālahum ˈilā ˈamwālikum ˈinnahū kāna ḥūban kabīran
Give the orphans their property, and do not replace the good with the bad, and do not eat up their property [by mingling it] with your own property, for that is indeed a great sin.
وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تُقْسِطُوا۟ فِى ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ فَٱنكِحُوا۟ مَا طَابَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ مَثْنَىٰ وَثُلَـٰثَ وَرُبَـٰعَ ۖ فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا۟ فَوَٰحِدَةً أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَدْنَىٰٓ أَلَّا تَعُولُوا۟
wa-ˈin ḫiftum ˈallā tuqsiṭū fī l-yatāmā fa-nkiḥū mā ṭāba lakum mina n-nisāˈi maṯnā wa-ṯulāṯa wa-rubāʿa fa-ˈin ḫiftum ˈallā taʿdilū fa-wāḥidatan ˈaw mā malakat ˈaymānukum ḏālika ˈadnā ˈallā taʿūlū
If you fear that you may not deal justly with the orphans, then marry [other] women that you like, two, three, or four. But if you fear that you may not treat them fairly, then [marry only] one, or [marry from among] your slave-women. That makes it likelier that you will not be unfair.
وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلنِّسَآءَ صَدُقَـٰتِهِنَّ نِحْلَةً ۚ فَإِن طِبْنَ لَكُمْ عَن شَىْءٍ مِّنْهُ نَفْسًا فَكُلُوهُ هَنِيٓـًٔا مَّرِيٓـًٔا
wa-ˈātū n-nisāˈa ṣaduqātihinna niḥlatan fa-ˈin ṭibna lakum ʿan šayˈin minhu nafsan fa-kulūhu hanīˈan marīˈan
Give women their dowries, handing it over to them; but if they remit anything of it of their own accord, then consume it as [something] lawful and wholesome.
وَلَا تُؤْتُوا۟ ٱلسُّفَهَآءَ أَمْوَٰلَكُمُ ٱلَّتِى جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ قِيَـٰمًا وَٱرْزُقُوهُمْ فِيهَا وَٱكْسُوهُمْ وَقُولُوا۟ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا
wa-lā tuˈtū s-sufahāˈa ˈamwālakumu llatī ǧaʿala llāhu lakum qiyāman wa-rzuqūhum fīhā wa-ksūhum wa-qūlū lahum qawlan maʿrūfan
Do not give the feeble-minded your property, which Allah has assigned you to manage: provide for them out of it and clothe them, and speak to them honourable words.
وَٱبْتَلُوا۟ ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغُوا۟ ٱلنِّكَاحَ فَإِنْ ءَانَسْتُم مِّنْهُمْ رُشْدًا فَٱدْفَعُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تَأْكُلُوهَآ إِسْرَافًا وَبِدَارًا أَن يَكْبَرُوا۟ ۚ وَمَن كَانَ غَنِيًّا فَلْيَسْتَعْفِفْ ۖ وَمَن كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَلْيَأْكُلْ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚ فَإِذَا دَفَعْتُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ فَأَشْهِدُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ حَسِيبًا
wa-btalū l-yatāmā ḥattā ˈiḏā balaġū n-nikāḥa fa-ˈin ˈānastum minhum rušdan fa-dfaʿū ˈilayhim ˈamwālahum wa-lā taˈkulūhā ˈisrāfan wa-bidāran ˈan yakbarū wa-man kāna ġaniyyan fa-l-yastaʿfif wa-man kāna faqīran fa-l-yaˈkul bi-l-maʿrūfi fa-ˈiḏā dafaʿtum ˈilayhim ˈamwālahum fa-ˈašhidū ʿalayhim wa-kafā bi-llāhi ḥasīban
Test the orphans when they reach the age of marriage. Then if you discern in them maturity, deliver to them their property. And do not consume it lavishly and hastily lest they should grow up. As for him who is well-off, let him be abstemious, and as for him who is poor, let him eat in an honourable manner. And when you deliver to them their property, take witnesses over them, and Allah suffices as reckoner.
لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَ وَلِلنِّسَآءِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَ مِمَّا قَلَّ مِنْهُ أَوْ كَثُرَ ۚ نَصِيبًا مَّفْرُوضًا
li-r-riǧāli naṣībun mimmā taraka l-wālidāni wa-l-ˈaqrabūna wa-li-n-nisāˈi naṣībun mimmā taraka l-wālidāni wa-l-ˈaqrabūna mimmā qalla minhu ˈaw kaṯura naṣīban mafrūḍan
Men have a share in the heritage left by parents and near relatives, and women have a share in the heritage left by parents and near relatives, whether it be little or much, a share ordained [by Allah].
وَإِذَا حَضَرَ ٱلْقِسْمَةَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينُ فَٱرْزُقُوهُم مِّنْهُ وَقُولُوا۟ لَهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا
wa-ˈiḏā ḥaḍara l-qismata ˈulū l-qurbā wa-l-yatāmā wa-l-masākīnu fa-rzuqūhum minhu wa-qūlū lahum qawlan maʿrūfan
And when the division is attended by relatives, the orphans and the needy, provide for them out of it, and speak to them honourable words.
وَلْيَخْشَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَوْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّةً ضِعَـٰفًا خَافُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ فَلْيَتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلْيَقُولُوا۟ قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا
wa-l-yaḫša llaḏīna law tarakū min ḫalfihim ḏurriyyatan ḍiʿāfan ḫāfū ʿalayhim fa-l-yattaqū llāha wa-l-yaqūlū qawlan sadīdan
Let those fear [the result of mistreating orphans] who, were they to leave behind weak offspring, would be concerned on their account. So let them be wary of Allah, and let them speak upright words.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَٰلَ ٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ ظُلْمًا إِنَّمَا يَأْكُلُونَ فِى بُطُونِهِمْ نَارًا ۖ وَسَيَصْلَوْنَ سَعِيرًا
ˈinna llaḏīna yaˈkulūna ˈamwāla l-yatāmā ẓulman ˈinnamā yaˈkulūna fī buṭūnihim nāran wa-sa-yaṣlawna saʿīran
Indeed those who consume the property of orphans wrongfully, only ingest fire into their bellies, and soon they will enter the Blaze.
يُوصِيكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِىٓ أَوْلَـٰدِكُمْ ۖ لِلذَّكَرِ مِثْلُ حَظِّ ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ ۚ فَإِن كُنَّ نِسَآءً فَوْقَ ٱثْنَتَيْنِ فَلَهُنَّ ثُلُثَا مَا تَرَكَ ۖ وَإِن كَانَتْ وَٰحِدَةً فَلَهَا ٱلنِّصْفُ ۚ وَلِأَبَوَيْهِ لِكُلِّ وَٰحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا ٱلسُّدُسُ مِمَّا تَرَكَ إِن كَانَ لَهُۥ وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ وَلَدٌ وَوَرِثَهُۥٓ أَبَوَاهُ فَلِأُمِّهِ ٱلثُّلُثُ ۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَهُۥٓ إِخْوَةٌ فَلِأُمِّهِ ٱلسُّدُسُ ۚ مِنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصِى بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ ۗ ءَابَآؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَآؤُكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ لَكُمْ نَفْعًا ۚ فَرِيضَةً مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
yūṣīkumu llāhu fī ˈawlādikum li-ḏ-ḏakari miṯlu ḥaẓẓi l-ˈunṯayayni fa-ˈin kunna nisāˈan fawqa ṯnatayni fa-lahunna ṯuluṯā mā taraka wa-ˈin kānat wāḥidatan fa-lahā n-niṣfu wa-li-ˈabawayhi li-kulli wāḥidin minhumā s-sudusu mimmā taraka ˈin kāna lahū waladun fa-ˈin lam yakun lahū waladun wa-wariṯahū ˈabawāhu fa-li-ˈummihi ṯ-ṯuluṯu fa-ˈin kāna lahū ˈiḫwatun fa-li-ˈummihi s-sudusu min baʿdi waṣiyyatin yūṣī bihā ˈaw daynin ˈābāˈukum wa-ˈabnāˈukum lā tadrūna ˈayyuhum ˈaqrabu lakum nafʿan farīḍatan mina llāhi ˈinna llāha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīman
Allah enjoins you concerning your children: for the male shall be the like of the share of two females, and if there be [two or] more than two females, then for them shall be two-thirds of what he leaves; but if she be alone, then for her shall be a half; and for each of his parents a sixth of what he leaves, if he has children; but if he has no children, and his parents are his [sole] heirs, then it shall be a third for his mother; but if he has brothers, then a sixth for his mother, after [paying off] any bequest he may have made or any debt [he may have incurred]. Your parents and your children—you do not know which of them is likelier to be beneficial for you. This is an ordinance from Allah. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
وَلَكُمْ نِصْفُ مَا تَرَكَ أَزْوَٰجُكُمْ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهُنَّ وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَهُنَّ وَلَدٌ فَلَكُمُ ٱلرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكْنَ ۚ مِنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصِينَ بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ ۚ وَلَهُنَّ ٱلرُّبُعُ مِمَّا تَرَكْتُمْ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّكُمْ وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ وَلَدٌ فَلَهُنَّ ٱلثُّمُنُ مِمَّا تَرَكْتُم ۚ مِّنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ تُوصُونَ بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ ۗ وَإِن كَانَ رَجُلٌ يُورَثُ كَلَـٰلَةً أَوِ ٱمْرَأَةٌ وَلَهُۥٓ أَخٌ أَوْ أُخْتٌ فَلِكُلِّ وَٰحِدٍ مِّنْهُمَا ٱلسُّدُسُ ۚ فَإِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَكْثَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ فَهُمْ شُرَكَآءُ فِى ٱلثُّلُثِ ۚ مِنۢ بَعْدِ وَصِيَّةٍ يُوصَىٰ بِهَآ أَوْ دَيْنٍ غَيْرَ مُضَآرٍّ ۚ وَصِيَّةً مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَلِيمٌ
wa-lakum niṣfu mā taraka ˈazwāǧukum ˈin lam yakun lahunna waladun fa-ˈin kāna lahunna waladun fa-lakumu r-rubuʿu mimmā tarakna min baʿdi waṣiyyatin yūṣīna bihā ˈaw daynin wa-lahunna r-rubuʿu mimmā taraktum ˈin lam yakun lakum waladun fa-ˈin kāna lakum waladun fa-lahunna ṯ-ṯumunu mimmā taraktum min baʿdi waṣiyyatin tūṣūna bihā ˈaw daynin wa-ˈin kāna raǧulun yūraṯu kalālatan ˈawi mraˈatun wa-lahū ˈaḫun ˈaw ˈuḫtun fa-li-kulli wāḥidin minhumā s-sudusu fa-ˈin kānū ˈakṯara min ḏālika fa-hum šurakāˈu fī ṯ-ṯuluṯi min baʿdi waṣiyyatin yūṣā bihā ˈaw daynin ġayra muḍārrin waṣiyyatan mina llāhi wa-llāhu ʿalīmun ḥalīmun
For you shall be a half of what your wives leave, if they have no children; but if they have children, then for you shall be a fourth of what they leave, after [paying off] any bequest they may have made or any debt [they may have incurred]. And for them [it shall be] a fourth of what you leave, if you have no children; but if you have children, then for them shall be an eighth of what you leave, after [paying off] any bequest you may have made or any debt [you may have incurred]. If a man or woman is inherited by siblings and has a brother or a sister, then each of them shall receive a sixth; but if they are more than that, then they shall share in one third, after [paying off] any bequest he may have made or any debt [he may have incurred] without prejudice. [This is] an enjoinment from Allah, and Allah is all-knowing, all-forbearing.
تِلْكَ حُدُودُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ يُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ
tilka ḥudūdu llāhi wa-man yuṭiʿi llāha wa-rasūlahū yudḫilhu ǧannātin taǧrī min taḥtihā l-ˈanhāru ḫālidīna fīhā wa-ḏālika l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīmu
These are Allah’s bounds, and whoever obeys Allah and His Apostle, He shall admit him to gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them [forever]. That is the great success.
وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَيَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَهُۥ يُدْخِلْهُ نَارًا خَـٰلِدًا فِيهَا وَلَهُۥ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
wa-man yaʿṣi llāha wa-rasūlahū wa-yataʿadda ḥudūdahū yudḫilhu nāran ḫālidan fīhā wa-lahū ʿaḏābun muhīnun
But whoever disobeys Allah and His Apostle and transgresses the bounds set by Allah, He shall make him enter a Fire, to remain in it [forever], and there will be a humiliating punishment for him.
وَٱلَّـٰتِى يَأْتِينَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ مِن نِّسَآئِكُمْ فَٱسْتَشْهِدُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنكُمْ ۖ فَإِن شَهِدُوا۟ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ فِى ٱلْبُيُوتِ حَتَّىٰ يَتَوَفَّىٰهُنَّ ٱلْمَوْتُ أَوْ يَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُنَّ سَبِيلًا
wa-llātī yaˈtīna l-fāḥišata min nisāˈikum fa-stašhidū ʿalayhinna ˈarbaʿatan minkum fa-ˈin šahidū fa-ˈamsikūhunna fī l-buyūti ḥattā yatawaffāhunna l-mawtu ˈaw yaǧʿala llāhu lahunna sabīlan
Should any of your women commit an indecent act, produce against them four witnesses from yourselves, and if they testify, detain them in [their] houses until death finishes them, or Allah decrees a course for them.
وَٱلَّذَانِ يَأْتِيَـٰنِهَا مِنكُمْ فَـَٔاذُوهُمَا ۖ فَإِن تَابَا وَأَصْلَحَا فَأَعْرِضُوا۟ عَنْهُمَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا
wa-llaḏāni yaˈtiyānihā minkum fa-ˈāḏūhumā fa-ˈin tābā wa-ˈaṣlaḥā fa-ˈaʿriḍū ʿanhumā ˈinna llāha kāna tawwāban raḥīman
Should two among you commit it, chastise them both; but if they repent and reform, let them alone. Indeed Allah is all-clement, all-merciful.
إِنَّمَا ٱلتَّوْبَةُ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِجَهَـٰلَةٍ ثُمَّ يَتُوبُونَ مِن قَرِيبٍ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَتُوبُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
ˈinnamā t-tawbatu ʿalā llāhi li-llaḏīna yaʿmalūna s-sūˈa bi-ǧahālatin ṯumma yatūbūna min qarībin fa-ˈulāˈika yatūbu llāhu ʿalayhim wa-kāna llāhu ʿalīman ḥakīman
[Acceptance of] repentance by Allah is only for those who commit evil out of ignorance and then repent promptly. It is such whose repentance Allah will accept, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
وَلَيْسَتِ ٱلتَّوْبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ قَالَ إِنِّى تُبْتُ ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ وَلَا ٱلَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا
wa-laysati t-tawbatu li-llaḏīna yaʿmalūna s-sayyiˈāti ḥattā ˈiḏā ḥaḍara ˈaḥadahumu l-mawtu qāla ˈinnī tubtu l-ˈāna wa-lā llaḏīna yamūtūna wa-hum kuffārun ˈulāˈika ˈaʿtadnā lahum ʿaḏāban ˈalīman
But [acceptance of] repentance is not for those who go on committing misdeeds: when death approaches any of them, he says, ‘I repent now.’ Nor is it for those who die while they are faithless. For such We have prepared a painful punishment.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا يَحِلُّ لَكُمْ أَن تَرِثُوا۟ ٱلنِّسَآءَ كَرْهًا ۖ وَلَا تَعْضُلُوهُنَّ لِتَذْهَبُوا۟ بِبَعْضِ مَآ ءَاتَيْتُمُوهُنَّ إِلَّآ أَن يَأْتِينَ بِفَـٰحِشَةٍ مُّبَيِّنَةٍ ۚ وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۚ فَإِن كَرِهْتُمُوهُنَّ فَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكْرَهُوا۟ شَيْـًٔا وَيَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā yaḥillu lakum ˈan tariṯū n-nisāˈa karhan wa-lā taʿḍulūhunna li-taḏhabū bi-baʿḍi mā ˈātaytumūhunna ˈillā ˈan yaˈtīna bi-fāḥišatin mubayyinatin wa-ʿāširūhunna bi-l-maʿrūfi fa-ˈin karihtumūhunna fa-ʿasā ˈan takrahū šayˈan wa-yaǧʿala llāhu fīhi ḫayran kaṯīran
O you who have faith! It is not lawful for you to inherit women forcibly, and do not press them to take away part of what you have given them, unless they commit a gross indecency. Consort with them in an honourable manner; and should you dislike them, maybe you dislike something while Allah invests it with an abundant good.
وَإِنْ أَرَدتُّمُ ٱسْتِبْدَالَ زَوْجٍ مَّكَانَ زَوْجٍ وَءَاتَيْتُمْ إِحْدَىٰهُنَّ قِنطَارًا فَلَا تَأْخُذُوا۟ مِنْهُ شَيْـًٔا ۚ أَتَأْخُذُونَهُۥ بُهْتَـٰنًا وَإِثْمًا مُّبِينًا
wa-ˈin ˈaradtumu stibdāla zawǧin makāna zawǧin wa-ˈātaytum ˈiḥdāhunna qinṭāran fa-lā taˈḫuḏū minhu šayˈan ˈa-taˈḫuḏūnahū buhtānan wa-ˈiṯman mubīnan
If you desire to take a wife in place of another, and you have given one of them a quintal [of gold], do not take anything away from it. Would you take it by way of calumny and flagrant sin?!
وَكَيْفَ تَأْخُذُونَهُۥ وَقَدْ أَفْضَىٰ بَعْضُكُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَأَخَذْنَ مِنكُم مِّيثَـٰقًا غَلِيظًا
wa-kayfa taˈḫuḏūnahū wa-qad ˈafḍā baʿḍukum ˈilā baʿḍin wa-ˈaḫaḏna minkum mīṯāqan ġalīẓan
How could you take it back, when you have known each other, and they have taken from you a solemn covenant?
وَلَا تَنكِحُوا۟ مَا نَكَحَ ءَابَآؤُكُم مِّنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَـٰحِشَةً وَمَقْتًا وَسَآءَ سَبِيلًا
wa-lā tankiḥū mā nakaḥa ˈābāˈukum mina n-nisāˈi ˈillā mā qad salafa ˈinnahū kāna fāḥišatan wa-maqtan wa-sāˈa sabīlan
Do not marry any of the women whom your fathers had married, excluding what is already past. That is indeed an indecency, an outrage and an evil course.
حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَّهَـٰتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُكُمْ وَأَخَوَٰتُكُمْ وَعَمَّـٰتُكُمْ وَخَـٰلَـٰتُكُمْ وَبَنَاتُ ٱلْأَخِ وَبَنَاتُ ٱلْأُخْتِ وَأُمَّهَـٰتُكُمُ ٱلَّـٰتِىٓ أَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَأَخَوَٰتُكُم مِّنَ ٱلرَّضَـٰعَةِ وَأُمَّهَـٰتُ نِسَآئِكُمْ وَرَبَـٰٓئِبُكُمُ ٱلَّـٰتِى فِى حُجُورِكُم مِّن نِّسَآئِكُمُ ٱلَّـٰتِى دَخَلْتُم بِهِنَّ فَإِن لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ دَخَلْتُم بِهِنَّ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَحَلَـٰٓئِلُ أَبْنَآئِكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِنْ أَصْلَـٰبِكُمْ وَأَن تَجْمَعُوا۟ بَيْنَ ٱلْأُخْتَيْنِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
ḥurrimat ʿalaykum ˈummahātukum wa-banātukum wa-ˈaḫawātukum wa-ʿammātukum wa-ḫālātukum wa-banātu l-ˈaḫi wa-banātu l-ˈuḫti wa-ˈummahātukumu llātī ˈarḍaʿnakum wa-ˈaḫawātukum mina r-raḍāʿati wa-ˈummahātu nisāˈikum wa-rabāˈibukumu llātī fī ḥuǧūrikum min nisāˈikumu llātī daḫaltum bihinna fa-ˈin lam takūnū daḫaltum bihinna fa-lā ǧunāḥa ʿalaykum wa-ḥalāˈilu ˈabnāˈikumu llaḏīna min ˈaṣlābikum wa-ˈan taǧmaʿū bayna l-ˈuḫtayni ˈillā mā qad salafa ˈinna llāha kāna ġafūran raḥīman
Forbidden to you are your mothers, your daughters and your sisters, your paternal aunts and your maternal aunts, your brother’s daughters and your sister’s daughters, your [foster-]mothers who have suckled you and your sisters through fosterage, your wives’ mothers, and your stepdaughters who are under your care [born] of the wives whom you have gone into—but if you have not gone into them there is no sin upon you—and the wives of your sons who are from your own loins, and that you should marry two sisters at one time—excluding what is already past; indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful—
وَٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتُ مِنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ إِلَّا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۖ كِتَـٰبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ وَأُحِلَّ لَكُم مَّا وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكُمْ أَن تَبْتَغُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِكُم مُّحْصِنِينَ غَيْرَ مُسَـٰفِحِينَ ۚ فَمَا ٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم بِهِۦ مِنْهُنَّ فَـَٔاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةً ۚ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِيمَا تَرَٰضَيْتُم بِهِۦ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْفَرِيضَةِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
wa-l-muḥṣanātu mina n-nisāˈi ˈillā mā malakat ˈaymānukum kitāba llāhi ʿalaykum wa-ˈuḥilla lakum mā warāˈa ḏālikum ˈan tabtaġū bi-ˈamwālikum muḥṣinīna ġayra musāfiḥīna fa-mā stamtaʿtum bihī minhunna fa-ˈātūhunna ˈuǧūrahunna farīḍatan wa-lā ǧunāḥa ʿalaykum fī-mā tarāḍaytum bihī min baʿdi l-farīḍati ˈinna llāha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīman
and married women, excepting your slave-women. This is Allah’s ordinance for you. As to others than these, it is lawful for you to seek [temporary union with them] with your wealth, in wedlock, not in license. For the enjoyment you have had from them thereby, give them their dowries, by way of settlement, and there is no sin upon you in what you may agree upon after the settlement. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
وَمَن لَّمْ يَسْتَطِعْ مِنكُمْ طَوْلًا أَن يَنكِحَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ فَمِن مَّا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُم مِّن فَتَيَـٰتِكُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِإِيمَـٰنِكُم ۚ بَعْضُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْضٍ ۚ فَٱنكِحُوهُنَّ بِإِذْنِ أَهْلِهِنَّ وَءَاتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ مُحْصَنَـٰتٍ غَيْرَ مُسَـٰفِحَـٰتٍ وَلَا مُتَّخِذَٰتِ أَخْدَانٍ ۚ فَإِذَآ أُحْصِنَّ فَإِنْ أَتَيْنَ بِفَـٰحِشَةٍ فَعَلَيْهِنَّ نِصْفُ مَا عَلَى ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِىَ ٱلْعَنَتَ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَأَن تَصْبِرُوا۟ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
wa-man lam yastaṭiʿ minkum ṭawlan ˈan yankiḥa l-muḥṣanāti l-muˈmināti fa-min mā malakat ˈaymānukum min fatayātikumu l-muˈmināti wa-llāhu ˈaʿlamu bi-ˈīmānikum baʿḍukum min baʿḍin fa-nkiḥūhunna bi-ˈiḏni ˈahlihinna wa-ˈātūhunna ˈuǧūrahunna bi-l-maʿrūfi muḥṣanātin ġayra musāfiḥātin wa-lā muttaḫiḏāti ˈaḫdānin fa-ˈiḏā ˈuḥṣinna fa-ˈin ˈatayna bi-fāḥišatin fa-ʿalayhinna niṣfu mā ʿalā l-muḥṣanāti mina l-ʿaḏābi ḏālika li-man ḫašiya l-ʿanata minkum wa-ˈan taṣbirū ḫayrun lakum wa-llāhu ġafūrun raḥīmun
As for those of you who cannot afford to marry faithful free women, then [let them marry] from what you own, from among your faithful slave-women. Your faith is best known [only] to Allah; you are all [on a] similar [footing]. So marry them with their masters’ permission, and give them their dowries in an honourable manner—[such of them] as are chaste women, not licentious ones or those who take paramours. But should they commit an indecent act on marrying, there shall be for them [only] half the punishment for free women. This is for those of you who fear falling into fornication; but it is better that you be continent, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ وَيَهْدِيَكُمْ سُنَنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَيَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ
yurīdu llāhu li-yubayyina lakum wa-yahdiyakum sunana llaḏīna min qablikum wa-yatūba ʿalaykum wa-llāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun
Allah desires to explain [the laws] to you, and to guide you to the customs of those who were before you, and to turn toward you clemently, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
وَٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتُوبَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَيُرِيدُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ أَن تَمِيلُوا۟ مَيْلًا عَظِيمًا
wa-llāhu yurīdu ˈan yatūba ʿalaykum wa-yurīdu llaḏīna yattabiʿūna š-šahawāti ˈan tamīlū maylan ʿaẓīman
Allah desires to turn toward you clemently, but those who pursue their [base] appetites desire that you fall into gross waywardness.
يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمْ ۚ وَخُلِقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ ضَعِيفًا
yurīdu llāhu ˈan yuḫaffifa ʿankum wa-ḫuliqa l-ˈinsānu ḍaʿīfan
Allah desires to lighten your burden, for man was created weak.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَأْكُلُوٓا۟ أَمْوَٰلَكُم بَيْنَكُم بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ إِلَّآ أَن تَكُونَ تِجَـٰرَةً عَن تَرَاضٍ مِّنكُمْ ۚ وَلَا تَقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā taˈkulū ˈamwālakum baynakum bi-l-bāṭili ˈillā ˈan takūna tiǧāratan ʿan tarāḍin minkum wa-lā taqtulū ˈanfusakum ˈinna llāha kāna bikum raḥīman
O you who have faith! Do not eat up your wealth among yourselves unrightfully, but it should be trade by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves. Indeed Allah is most merciful to you.
وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ عُدْوَٰنًا وَظُلْمًا فَسَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِ نَارًا ۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًا
wa-man yafʿal ḏālika ʿudwānan wa-ẓulman fa-sawfa nuṣlīhi nāran wa-kāna ḏālika ʿalā llāhi yasīran
And whoever does that in aggression and injustice, We will soon make him enter the Fire, and that is easy for Allah.
إِن تَجْتَنِبُوا۟ كَبَآئِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَنُدْخِلْكُم مُّدْخَلًا كَرِيمًا
ˈin taǧtanibū kabāˈira mā tunhawna ʿanhu nukaffir ʿankum sayyiˈātikum wa-nudḫilkum mudḫalan karīman
If you avoid the major sins that you are forbidden, We will absolve you of your misdeeds and admit you to a noble abode.
وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا۟ مَا فَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا ٱكْتَسَبُوا۟ ۖ وَلِلنِّسَآءِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا ٱكْتَسَبْنَ ۚ وَسْـَٔلُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمًا
wa-lā tatamannaw mā faḍḍala llāhu bihī baʿḍakum ʿalā baʿḍin li-r-riǧāli naṣībun mimmā ktasabū wa-li-n-nisāˈi naṣībun mimmā ktasabna wa-sˈalū llāha min faḍlihī ˈinna llāha kāna bi-kulli šayˈin ʿalīman
Do not covet the advantage, which Allah has given some of you over others. To men belongs a share of what they have earned, and to women a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah for His bounty. Indeed Allah has knowledge of all things.
وَلِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مَوَٰلِىَ مِمَّا تَرَكَ ٱلْوَٰلِدَانِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبُونَ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ عَقَدَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ فَـَٔاتُوهُمْ نَصِيبَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدًا
wa-li-kullin ǧaʿalnā mawāliya mimmā taraka l-wālidāni wa-l-ˈaqrabūna wa-llaḏīna ʿaqadat ˈaymānukum fa-ˈātūhum naṣībahum ˈinna llāha kāna ʿalā kulli šayˈin šahīdan-i
For everyone We have appointed heirs to what the parents and near relatives leave, as well as those with whom you have made a compact; so give them their share [of the heritage]. Indeed Allah is witness to all things.
ٱلرِّجَالُ قَوَّٰمُونَ عَلَى ٱلنِّسَآءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَبِمَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ ۚ فَٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتُ قَـٰنِتَـٰتٌ حَـٰفِظَـٰتٌ لِّلْغَيْبِ بِمَا حَفِظَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَٱلَّـٰتِى تَخَافُونَ نُشُوزَهُنَّ فَعِظُوهُنَّ وَٱهْجُرُوهُنَّ فِى ٱلْمَضَاجِعِ وَٱضْرِبُوهُنَّ ۖ فَإِنْ أَطَعْنَكُمْ فَلَا تَبْغُوا۟ عَلَيْهِنَّ سَبِيلًا ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيًّا كَبِيرًا
ar-riǧālu qawwāmūna ʿalā n-nisāˈi bi-mā faḍḍala llāhu baʿḍahum ʿalā baʿḍin wa-bi-mā ˈanfaqū min ˈamwālihim fa-ṣ-ṣāliḥātu qānitātun ḥāfiẓātun li-l-ġaybi bi-mā ḥafiẓa llāhu wa-llātī taḫāfūna nušūzahunna fa-ʿiẓūhunna wa-hǧurūhunna fī l-maḍāǧiʿi wa-ḍribūhunna fa-ˈin ˈaṭaʿnakum fa-lā tabġū ʿalayhinna sabīlan ˈinna llāha kāna ʿaliyyan kabīran
Men are the managers of women, because of the advantage Allah has granted some of them over others, and by virtue of their spending out of their wealth. Righteous women are obedient and watchful in the absence [of their husbands] in guarding what Allah has enjoined [them] to guard. As for those [wives] whose misconduct you fear, [first] advise them, and [if ineffective] keep away from them in the bed, and [as the last resort] beat them. Then if they obey you, do not seek any course [of action] against them. Indeed Allah is all-exalted, all-great.
وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ شِقَاقَ بَيْنِهِمَا فَٱبْعَثُوا۟ حَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهِۦ وَحَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهَآ إِن يُرِيدَآ إِصْلَـٰحًا يُوَفِّقِ ٱللَّهُ بَيْنَهُمَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا خَبِيرًا
wa-ˈin ḫiftum šiqāqa baynihimā fa-bʿaṯū ḥakaman min ˈahlihī wa-ḥakaman min ˈahlihā ˈin yurīdā ˈiṣlāḥan yuwaffiqi llāhu baynahumā ˈinna llāha kāna ʿalīman ḫabīran
If you fear a split between the two of them, then appoint an arbiter from his relatives and an arbiter from her relatives. If they desire reconcilement, Allah shall reconcile them. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-aware.
وَٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُوا۟ بِهِۦ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَـٰنًا وَبِذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ وَٱلْجَارِ ذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْجَارِ ٱلْجُنُبِ وَٱلصَّاحِبِ بِٱلْجَنۢبِ وَٱبْنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ مَن كَانَ مُخْتَالًا فَخُورًا
wa-ʿbudū llāha wa-lā tušrikū bihī šayˈan wa-bi-l-wālidayni ˈiḥsānan wa-bi-ḏī l-qurbā wa-l-yatāmā wa-l-masākīni wa-l-ǧāri ḏī l-qurbā wa-l-ǧāri l-ǧunubi wa-ṣ-ṣāḥibi bi-l-ǧanbi wa-bni s-sabīli wa-mā malakat ˈaymānukum ˈinna llāha lā yuḥibbu man kāna muḫtālan faḫūran-i
Worship Allah and do not ascribe any partners to Him, and be good to parents, the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the near neighbour and the distant neighbour, the companion at your side, the traveller, and your slaves. Indeed Allah does not like those who are arrogant and boastful.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ وَيَأْمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلْبُخْلِ وَيَكْتُمُونَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۗ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا
allaḏīna yabḫalūna wa-yaˈmurūna n-nāsa bi-l-buḫli wa-yaktumūna mā ˈātāhumu llāhu min faḍlihī wa-ˈaʿtadnā li-l-kāfirīna ʿaḏāban muhīnan
—Those who are [themselves] stingy and bid [other] people to be stingy, and conceal whatever Allah has given them out of His bounty; and We have prepared for the faithless a humiliating punishment.
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ رِئَآءَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۗ وَمَن يَكُنِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لَهُۥ قَرِينًا فَسَآءَ قَرِينًا
wa-llaḏīna yunfiqūna ˈamwālahum riˈāˈa n-nāsi wa-lā yuˈminūna bi-llāhi wa-lā bi-l-yawmi l-ˈāḫiri wa-man yakuni š-šayṭānu lahū qarīnan fa-sāˈa qarīnan
And those who spend their wealth to be seen by people, and believe neither in Allah nor in the Last Day. As for him who has Satan for his companion—an evil companion is he!
وَمَاذَا عَلَيْهِمْ لَوْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَأَنفَقُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِمْ عَلِيمًا
wa-māḏā ʿalayhim law ˈāmanū bi-llāhi wa-l-yawmi l-ˈāḫiri wa-ˈanfaqū mimmā razaqahumu llāhu wa-kāna llāhu bihim ʿalīman
What harm would it have done them had they believed in Allah and the Last Day, and spent out of what Allah has provided them? Allah knows them well.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ ۖ وَإِن تَكُ حَسَنَةً يُضَـٰعِفْهَا وَيُؤْتِ مِن لَّدُنْهُ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
ˈinna llāha lā yaẓlimu miṯqāla ḏarratin wa-ˈin taku ḥasanatan yuḍāʿifhā wa-yuˈti min ladunhu ˈaǧran ʿaẓīman
Indeed Allah does not wrong [anyone] [even to the extent of] an atom’s weight, and if it be a good deed He doubles it[s reward], and gives from Himself a great reward.
فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةٍۭ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ شَهِيدًا
fa-kayfa ˈiḏā ǧiˈnā min kulli ˈummatin bi-šahīdin wa-ǧiˈnā bika ʿalā hāˈulāˈi šahīdan
So how shall it be, when We bring a witness from every nation and We bring you as a witness to them?
يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَعَصَوُا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ لَوْ تُسَوَّىٰ بِهِمُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَلَا يَكْتُمُونَ ٱللَّهَ حَدِيثًا
yawmaˈiḏin yawaddu llaḏīna kafarū wa-ʿaṣawu r-rasūla law tusawwā bihimu l-ˈarḍu wa-lā yaktumūna llāha ḥadīṯan
On that day those who were faithless and [who] disobeyed the Apostle will wish the earth were levelled with them, and they will not conceal any matter from Allah.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأَنتُمْ سُكَـٰرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَعْلَمُوا۟ مَا تَقُولُونَ وَلَا جُنُبًا إِلَّا عَابِرِى سَبِيلٍ حَتَّىٰ تَغْتَسِلُوا۟ ۚ وَإِن كُنتُم مَّرْضَىٰٓ أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ أَوْ جَآءَ أَحَدٌ مِّنكُم مِّنَ ٱلْغَآئِطِ أَوْ لَـٰمَسْتُمُ ٱلنِّسَآءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا۟ مَآءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا۟ صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَٱمْسَحُوا۟ بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا غَفُورًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā taqrabū ṣ-ṣalāta wa-ˈantum sukārā ḥattā taʿlamū mā taqūlūna wa-lā ǧunuban ˈillā ʿābirī sabīlin ḥattā taġtasilū wa-ˈin kuntum marḍā ˈaw ʿalā safarin ˈaw ǧāˈa ˈaḥadun minkum mina l-ġāˈiṭi ˈaw lāmastumu n-nisāˈa fa-lam taǧidū māˈan fa-tayammamū ṣaʿīdan ṭayyiban fa-msaḥū bi-wuǧūhikum wa-ˈaydīkum ˈinna llāha kāna ʿafuwwan ġafūran
O you who have faith! Do not approach prayer when you are intoxicated, [not] until you know what you are saying, nor [enter mosques] in the state of ritual impurity until you have washed yourselves, except while passing through. But if you are sick or on a journey, or any of you has come from the toilet, or you have touched women, and you cannot find water, then make your ablution on clean ground and wipe a part of your faces and your hands. Indeed Allah is all-excusing, all-forgiving.
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ يَشْتَرُونَ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةَ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن تَضِلُّوا۟ ٱلسَّبِيلَ
ˈa-lam tara ˈilā llaḏīna ˈūtū naṣīban mina l-kitābi yaštarūna ḍ-ḍalālata wa-yurīdūna ˈan taḍillū s-sabīla
Have you not regarded those who were given a share of the Book, who purchase error and desire that you [too] should lose the way?
وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِأَعْدَآئِكُمْ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ نَصِيرًا
wa-llāhu ˈaʿlamu bi-ˈaʿdāˈikum wa-kafā bi-llāhi waliyyan wa-kafā bi-llāhi naṣīran
But Allah knows your enemies better, and Allah suffices as guardian, and Allah suffices as helper.
مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ وَيَقُولُونَ سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَٱسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ وَرَٰعِنَا لَيًّۢا بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ وَطَعْنًا فِى ٱلدِّينِ ۚ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَٱسْمَعْ وَٱنظُرْنَا لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَأَقْوَمَ وَلَـٰكِن لَّعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
mina llaḏīna hādū yuḥarrifūna l-kalima ʿan mawāḍiʿihī wa-yaqūlūna samiʿnā wa-ʿaṣaynā wa-smaʿ ġayra musmaʿin wa-rāʿinā layyan bi-ˈalsinatihim wa-ṭaʿnan fī d-dīni wa-law ˈannahum qālū samiʿnā wa-ˈaṭaʿnā wa-smaʿ wa-nẓurnā la-kāna ḫayran lahum wa-ˈaqwama wa-lākin laʿanahumu llāhu bi-kufrihim fa-lā yuˈminūna ˈillā qalīlan
Among the Jews are those who pervert words from their meanings and say, ‘We hear and disobey’ and ‘Hear without listening!’ and ‘Ra’ina,’ twisting their tongues and reviling the faith. But had they said, ‘We hear and obey’ and ‘Listen’ and ‘Unzurna,’ it would have been better for them and more upright. But Allah has cursed them for their faithlessness, so they will not believe except a few.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِمَا نَزَّلْنَا مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن نَّطْمِسَ وُجُوهًا فَنَرُدَّهَا عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَارِهَآ أَوْ نَلْعَنَهُمْ كَمَا لَعَنَّآ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلسَّبْتِ ۚ وَكَانَ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ مَفْعُولًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈūtū l-kitāba ˈāminū bi-mā nazzalnā muṣaddiqan li-mā maʿakum min qabli ˈan naṭmisa wuǧūhan fa-naruddahā ʿalā ˈadbārihā ˈaw nalʿanahum ka-mā laʿannā ˈaṣḥāba s-sabti wa-kāna ˈamru llāhi mafʿūlan
O you who were given the Book! Believe in what We have sent down confirming what is with you, before We blot out the faces and turn them backwards, or curse them as We cursed the People of the Sabbath, and Allah’s command is bound to be fulfilled.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱفْتَرَىٰٓ إِثْمًا عَظِيمًا
ˈinna llāha lā yaġfiru ˈan yušraka bihī wa-yaġfiru mā dūna ḏālika li-man yašāˈu wa-man yušrik bi-llāhi fa-qadi ftarā ˈiṯman ʿaẓīman
Indeed Allah does not forgive that partners should be ascribed to Him, but He forgives anything besides that to whomever He wishes. Whoever ascribes partners to Allah has indeed fabricated [a lie] in great sinfulness.
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُزَكُّونَ أَنفُسَهُم ۚ بَلِ ٱللَّهُ يُزَكِّى مَن يَشَآءُ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا
ˈa-lam tara ˈilā llaḏīna yuzakkūna ˈanfusahum bali llāhu yuzakkī man yašāˈu wa-lā yuẓlamūna fatīlan-i
Have you not regarded those who style themselves as pure? Indeed, it is Allah who purifies whomever He wishes, and they will not be wronged [so much as] a single date-thread.
ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ ۖ وَكَفَىٰ بِهِۦٓ إِثْمًا مُّبِينًا
unẓur kayfa yaftarūna ʿalā llāhi l-kaḏiba wa-kafā bihī ˈiṯman mubīnan
Look, how they fabricate lies against Allah! That suffices for a flagrant sin.
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْجِبْتِ وَٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَهْدَىٰ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ سَبِيلًا
ˈa-lam tara ˈilā llaḏīna ˈūtū naṣīban mina l-kitābi yuˈminūna bi-l-ǧibti wa-ṭ-ṭāġūti wa-yaqūlūna li-llaḏīna kafarū hāˈulāˈi ˈahdā mina llaḏīna ˈāmanū sabīlan
Have you not regarded those who were given a share of the Book, believing in idols and fake deities and saying of the pagans: ‘These are better guided on the way than the faithful’?
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَمَن يَلْعَنِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ نَصِيرًا
ˈulāˈika llaḏīna laʿanahumu llāhu wa-man yalʿani llāhu fa-lan taǧida lahū naṣīran
They are the ones whom Allah has cursed, and whomever Allah curses, you will never find any helper for him.
أَمْ لَهُمْ نَصِيبٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُلْكِ فَإِذًا لَّا يُؤْتُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ نَقِيرًا
ˈam lahum naṣībun mina l-mulki fa-ˈiḏan lā yuˈtūna n-nāsa naqīran
Do they have a share in sovereignty? If so, they will not give those people [so much as] a speck on a date-stone!
أَمْ يَحْسُدُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ عَلَىٰ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ ۖ فَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَآ ءَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مُّلْكًا عَظِيمًا
ˈam yaḥsudūna n-nāsa ʿalā mā ˈātāhumu llāhu min faḍlihī fa-qad ˈātaynā ˈāla ˈibrāhīma l-kitāba wa-l-ḥikmata wa-ˈātaynāhum mulkan ʿaẓīman
Do they envy those people for what Allah has given them out of His bounty? We have certainly given the progeny of Abraham the Book and wisdom, and We have given them a great sovereignty.
فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَمِنْهُم مَّن صَدَّ عَنْهُ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِجَهَنَّمَ سَعِيرًا
fa-minhum man ˈāmana bihī wa-minhum man ṣadda ʿanhu wa-kafā bi-ǧahannama saʿīran
Of them are some who believe in him, and of them are some who deter [others] from him; and hell suffices for a blaze!
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا سَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِمْ نَارًا كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتْ جُلُودُهُم بَدَّلْنَـٰهُمْ جُلُودًا غَيْرَهَا لِيَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا
ˈinna llaḏīna kafarū bi-ˈāyātinā sawfa nuṣlīhim nāran kullamā naḍiǧat ǧulūduhum baddalnāhum ǧulūdan ġayrahā li-yaḏūqū l-ʿaḏāba ˈinna llāha kāna ʿazīzan ḥakīman
Indeed We shall soon make those who deny Our signs enter a Fire: as often as their skins become scorched, We shall replace them with other skins, so that they may taste the punishment. Indeed Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۖ لَّهُمْ فِيهَآ أَزْوَٰجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ ۖ وَنُدْخِلُهُمْ ظِلًّا ظَلِيلًا
wa-llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti sa-nudḫiluhum ǧannātin taǧrī min taḥtihā l-ˈanhāru ḫālidīna fīhā ˈabadan lahum fīhā ˈazwāǧun muṭahharatun wa-nudḫiluhum ẓillan ẓalīlan
As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, We shall admit them into gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever. In it, there will be chaste mates for them, and We shall admit them into a deep shade.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا۟ ٱلْأَمَـٰنَـٰتِ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَا وَإِذَا حَكَمْتُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ أَن تَحْكُمُوا۟ بِٱلْعَدْلِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ نِعِمَّا يَعِظُكُم بِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا
ˈinna llāha yaˈmurukum ˈan tuˈaddū l-ˈamānāti ˈilā ˈahlihā wa-ˈiḏā ḥakamtum bayna n-nāsi ˈan taḥkumū bi-l-ʿadli ˈinna llāha niʿimmā yaʿiẓukum bihī ˈinna llāha kāna samīʿan baṣīran
Indeed Allah commands you to deliver the trusts to their [rightful] owners, and to judge with fairness when you judge between people. Excellent indeed is what Allah advises you. Indeed Allah is all-hearing, all-seeing.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ ۖ فَإِن تَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ فِى شَىْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū ˈaṭīʿū llāha wa-ˈaṭīʿū r-rasūla wa-ˈulī l-ˈamri minkum fa-ˈin tanāzaʿtum fī šayˈin fa-ruddūhu ˈilā llāhi wa-r-rasūli ˈin kuntum tuˈminūna bi-llāhi wa-l-yawmi l-ˈāḫiri ḏālika ḫayrun wa-ˈaḥsanu taˈwīlan
O you who have faith! Obey Allah and obey the Apostle and those vested with authority among you. And if you dispute concerning anything, refer it to Allah and the Apostle, if you have faith in Allah and the Last Day. That is better and more favourable in outcome.
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَحَاكَمُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَقَدْ أُمِرُوٓا۟ أَن يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَيُرِيدُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَن يُضِلَّهُمْ ضَلَـٰلًۢا بَعِيدًا
ˈa-lam tara ˈilā llaḏīna yazʿumūna ˈannahum ˈāmanū bi-mā ˈunzila ˈilayka wa-mā ˈunzila min qablika yurīdūna ˈan yataḥākamū ˈilā ṭ-ṭāġūti wa-qad ˈumirū ˈan yakfurū bihī wa-yurīdu š-šayṭānu ˈan yuḍillahum ḍalālan baʿīdan
Have you not regarded those who claim that they believe in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down before you? They desire to seek the judgment of fake deities, though they were commanded to reject them, and Satan desires to lead them astray into far error.
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ رَأَيْتَ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَنكَ صُدُودًا
wa-ˈiḏā qīla lahum taʿālaw ˈilā mā ˈanzala llāhu wa-ˈilā r-rasūli raˈayta l-munāfiqīna yaṣuddūna ʿanka ṣudūdan
When they are told, ‘Come to what Allah has sent down and [come] to the Apostle,’ you see the hypocrites keep away from you aversely.
فَكَيْفَ إِذَآ أَصَـٰبَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ جَآءُوكَ يَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَآ إِلَّآ إِحْسَـٰنًا وَتَوْفِيقًا
fa-kayfa ˈiḏā ˈaṣābathum muṣībatun bi-mā qaddamat ˈaydīhim ṯumma ǧāˈūka yaḥlifūna bi-llāhi ˈin ˈaradnā ˈillā ˈiḥsānan wa-tawfīqan
But how will it be when an affliction visits them because of what their hands have sent ahead? Then they will come to you, swearing by Allah, ‘We desired nothing but to do good and to bring about comity.’
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَعِظْهُمْ وَقُل لَّهُمْ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ قَوْلًۢا بَلِيغًا
ˈulāˈika llaḏīna yaʿlamu llāhu mā fī qulūbihim fa-ˈaʿriḍ ʿanhum wa-ʿiẓhum wa-qul lahum fī ˈanfusihim qawlan balīġan
They are the ones whom Allah knows as to what is in their hearts. So let them alone, and advise them, and speak to them concerning themselves far-reaching words.
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا لِيُطَاعَ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ إِذ ظَّلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ جَآءُوكَ فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱسْتَغْفَرَ لَهُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ لَوَجَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابًا رَّحِيمًا
wa-mā ˈarsalnā min rasūlin ˈillā li-yuṭāʿa bi-ˈiḏni llāhi wa-law ˈannahum ˈiḏ ẓalamū ˈanfusahum ǧāˈūka fa-staġfarū llāha wa-staġfara lahumu r-rasūlu la-waǧadū llāha tawwāban raḥīman
We did not send any apostle but to be obeyed by Allah’s leave. Had they, when they wronged themselves, come to you and pleaded to Allah for forgiveness, and the Apostle had pleaded for them [to Allah]for forgiveness, they would have surely found Allah all-clement, all-merciful.
فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا
fa-lā wa-rabbika lā yuˈminūna ḥattā yuḥakkimūka fī-mā šaǧara baynahum ṯumma lā yaǧidū fī ˈanfusihim ḥaraǧan mimmā qaḍayta wa-yusallimū taslīman
But no, by your Lord! They will not believe until they make you a judge in their disputes, then do not find within their hearts any dissent to your verdict and submit in full submission.
وَلَوْ أَنَّا كَتَبْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَنِ ٱقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ أَوِ ٱخْرُجُوا۟ مِن دِيَـٰرِكُم مَّا فَعَلُوهُ إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ مِّنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ فَعَلُوا۟ مَا يُوعَظُونَ بِهِۦ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَأَشَدَّ تَثْبِيتًا
wa-law ˈannā katabnā ʿalayhim ˈani qtulū ˈanfusakum ˈawi ḫruǧū min diyārikum mā faʿalūhu ˈillā qalīlun minhum wa-law ˈannahum faʿalū mā yūʿaẓūna bihī la-kāna ḫayran lahum wa-ˈašadda taṯbītan
Had We prescribed for them, [commanding]: ‘Slay [the guilty among] your folks or leave your habitations,’ they would not have done it except a few of them. And if they had done as they were advised, it would have been better for them and stronger in confirming [their faith].
وَإِذًا لَّـَٔاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّن لَّدُنَّآ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
wa-ˈiḏan la-ˈātaynāhum min ladunnā ˈaǧran ʿaẓīman
Then We would surely have given them from Us a great reward,
وَلَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمْ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا
wa-la-hadaynāhum ṣirāṭan mustaqīman
and We would have guided them to a straight path.
وَمَن يُطِعِ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ وَٱلصِّدِّيقِينَ وَٱلشُّهَدَآءِ وَٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ۚ وَحَسُنَ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ رَفِيقًا
wa-man yuṭiʿi llāha wa-r-rasūla fa-ˈulāˈika maʿa llaḏīna ˈanʿama llāhu ʿalayhim mina n-nabiyyīna wa-ṣ-ṣiddīqīna wa-š-šuhadāˈi wa-ṣ-ṣāliḥīna wa-ḥasuna ˈulāˈika rafīqan
Whoever obeys Allah and the Apostle—they are with those whom Allah has blessed, including the prophets and the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous, and excellent companions are they!
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَضْلُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ عَلِيمًا
ḏālika l-faḍlu mina llāhi wa-kafā bi-llāhi ʿalīman
That is the grace of Allah, and Allah suffices as knower [of His creatures].
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ خُذُوا۟ حِذْرَكُمْ فَٱنفِرُوا۟ ثُبَاتٍ أَوِ ٱنفِرُوا۟ جَمِيعًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū ḫuḏū ḥiḏrakum fa-nfirū ṯubātin ˈawi-nfirū ǧamīʿan
O you who have faith! Take your precautions, then go forth in companies, or go forth en masse.
وَإِنَّ مِنكُمْ لَمَن لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ فَإِنْ أَصَـٰبَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالَ قَدْ أَنْعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىَّ إِذْ لَمْ أَكُن مَّعَهُمْ شَهِيدًا
wa-ˈinna minkum la-man la-yubaṭṭiˈanna fa-ˈin ˈaṣābatkum muṣībatun qāla qad ˈanʿama llāhu ʿalayya ˈiḏ lam ˈakun maʿahum šahīdan
Among you is indeed he who drags his feet, and should an affliction visit you, he says, ‘It was certainly Allah’s blessing that I did not accompany them!’
وَلَئِنْ أَصَـٰبَكُمْ فَضْلٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لَيَقُولَنَّ كَأَن لَّمْ تَكُنۢ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُۥ مَوَدَّةٌ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ مَعَهُمْ فَأَفُوزَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا
wa-la-ˈin ˈaṣābakum faḍlun mina llāhi la-yaqūlanna ka-ˈan lam takun baynakum wa-baynahū mawaddatun yā-laytanī kuntu maʿahum fa-ˈafūza fawzan ʿaẓīman
But should a bounty from Allah come to you, he will say—as if there were no [tie of friendship and] affection between you and him—‘I wish I were with them so that I had achieved a great success!’
فَلْيُقَـٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَن يُقَـٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَيُقْتَلْ أَوْ يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
fa-l-yuqātil fī sabīli llāhi llaḏīna yašrūna l-ḥayāta d-dunyā bi-l-ˈāḫirati wa-man yuqātil fī sabīli llāhi fa-yuqtal ˈaw yaġlib fa-sawfa nuˈtīhi ˈaǧran ʿaẓīman
Let those who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the way of Allah; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, and then is slain, or he subdues [the enemy], We shall soon give him a great reward.
وَمَا لَكُمْ لَا تُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ وَٱلنِّسَآءِ وَٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ٱلظَّالِمِ أَهْلُهَا وَٱجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ وَلِيًّا وَٱجْعَل لَّنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ نَصِيرًا
wa-mā lakum lā tuqātilūna fī sabīli llāhi wa-l-mustaḍʿafīna mina r-riǧāli wa-n-nisāˈi wa-l-wildāni llaḏīna yaqūlūna rabbanā ˈaḫriǧnā min hāḏihi l-qaryati ẓ-ẓālimi ˈahluhā wa-ǧʿal lanā min ladunka waliyyan wa-ǧʿal lanā min ladunka naṣīran-i
Why should you not fight in the way of Allah and the oppressed men, women, and children, who say, ‘Our Lord, bring us out of this town whose people are oppressors, and appoint for us a guardian from Yourself, and appoint for us a helper from Yourself’?
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ فَقَـٰتِلُوٓا۟ أَوْلِيَآءَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۖ إِنَّ كَيْدَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ كَانَ ضَعِيفًا
allaḏīna ˈāmanū yuqātilūna fī sabīli llāhi wa-llaḏīna kafarū yuqātilūna fī sabīli ṭ-ṭāġūti fa-qātilū ˈawliyāˈa š-šayṭāni ˈinna kayda š-šayṭāni kāna ḍaʿīfan
Those who have faith fight in the way of Allah, and those who are faithless fight in the way of fake gods. So fight the friends of Satan; indeed the stratagems of Satan are always flimsy.
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ قِيلَ لَهُمْ كُفُّوٓا۟ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقِتَالُ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَخْشَوْنَ ٱلنَّاسَ كَخَشْيَةِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ أَشَدَّ خَشْيَةً ۚ وَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لِمَ كَتَبْتَ عَلَيْنَا ٱلْقِتَالَ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ ۗ قُلْ مَتَـٰعُ ٱلدُّنْيَا قَلِيلٌ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا
ˈa-lam tara ˈilā llaḏīna qīla lahum kuffū ˈaydiyakum wa-ˈaqīmū ṣ-ṣalāta wa-ˈātū z-zakāta fa-lammā kutiba ʿalayhimu l-qitālu ˈiḏā farīqun minhum yaḫšawna n-nāsa ka-ḫašyati llāhi ˈaw ˈašadda ḫašyatan wa-qālū rabbanā li-ma katabta ʿalaynā l-qitāla law-lā ˈaḫḫartanā ˈilā ˈaǧalin qarībin qul matāʿu d-dunyā qalīlun wa-l-ˈāḫiratu ḫayrun li-mani ttaqā wa-lā tuẓlamūna fatīlan
Have you not regarded those who were told, ‘Keep your hands off [from warfare], and maintain the prayer and give the zakat’? But when fighting was prescribed for them, behold, a part of them feared the people as if fearing Allah, or were even more afraid, and they said, ‘Our Lord! Why did You prescribe fighting for us? Why did You not respite us for a short time?!’ Say, ‘The enjoyments of this world are trifle and the Hereafter is better for the Godwary, and you will not be wronged so much as a single date-thread.
أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا۟ يُدْرِككُّمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُرُوجٍ مُّشَيَّدَةٍ ۗ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ حَسَنَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَقُولُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦ مِنْ عِندِكَ ۚ قُلْ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَمَالِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلْقَوْمِ لَا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ حَدِيثًا
ˈaynamā takūnū yudrikkumu l-mawtu wa-law kuntum fī burūǧin mušayyadatin wa-ˈin tuṣibhum ḥasanatun yaqūlū hāḏihī min ʿindi llāhi wa-ˈin tuṣibhum sayyiˈatun yaqūlū hāḏihī min ʿindika qul kullun min ʿindi llāhi fa-mā-li hāˈulāˈi l-qawmi lā yakādūna yafqahūna ḥadīṯan
Wherever you may be death will overtake you, even if you were in fortified towers.’ If any good befalls them, they say, ‘This is from Allah;’ and when an ill befalls them, they say, ‘This is from you.’ Say, ‘All is from Allah.’ What is the matter with these people that they would not understand any matter?
مَّآ أَصَابَكَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَآ أَصَابَكَ مِن سَيِّئَةٍ فَمِن نَّفْسِكَ ۚ وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولًا ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدًا
mā ˈaṣābaka min ḥasanatin fa-mina llāhi wa-mā ˈaṣābaka min sayyiˈatin fa-min nafsika wa-ˈarsalnāka li-n-nāsi rasūlan wa-kafā bi-llāhi šahīdan
Whatever good befalls you is from Allah; and whatever ill befalls you is from yourself. We sent you as an apostle to mankind, and Allah suffices as witness.
مَّن يُطِعِ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ ٱللَّهَ ۖ وَمَن تَوَلَّىٰ فَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَفِيظًا
man yuṭiʿi r-rasūla fa-qad ˈaṭāʿa llāha wa-man tawallā fa-mā ˈarsalnāka ʿalayhim ḥafīẓan
Whoever obeys the Apostle certainly obeys Allah; and as for those who turn their backs [on you]; We have not sent you to keep watch over them.
وَيَقُولُونَ طَاعَةٌ فَإِذَا بَرَزُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ بَيَّتَ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ غَيْرَ ٱلَّذِى تَقُولُ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَكْتُبُ مَا يُبَيِّتُونَ ۖ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا
wa-yaqūlūna ṭāʿatun fa-ˈiḏā barazū min ʿindika bayyata ṭāˈifatun minhum ġayra llaḏī taqūlu wa-llāhu yaktubu mā yubayyitūna fa-ˈaʿriḍ ʿanhum wa-tawakkal ʿalā llāhi wa-kafā bi-llāhi wakīlan
They profess obedience [to you], but when they go out from your presence, a group of them conspire overnight [to do] something other than what you say. But Allah records what they conspire overnight. So disregard them and put your trust in Allah, for Allah suffices as trustee.
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ۚ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ لَوَجَدُوا۟ فِيهِ ٱخْتِلَـٰفًا كَثِيرًا
ˈa-fa-lā yatadabbarūna l-qurˈāna wa-law kāna min ʿindi ġayri llāhi la-waǧadū fīhi ḫtilāfan kaṯīran
Do they not contemplate the Quran? Had it been from [someone] other than Allah, they would have surely found much discrepancy in it.
وَإِذَا جَآءَهُمْ أَمْرٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْنِ أَوِ ٱلْخَوْفِ أَذَاعُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَوْ رَدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ وَإِلَىٰٓ أُو۟لِى ٱلْأَمْرِ مِنْهُمْ لَعَلِمَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَنۢبِطُونَهُۥ مِنْهُمْ ۗ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ لَٱتَّبَعْتُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
wa-ˈiḏā ǧāˈahum ˈamrun mina l-ˈamni ˈawi l-ḫawfi ˈaḏāʿū bihī wa-law raddūhu ˈilā r-rasūli wa-ˈilā ˈulī l-ˈamri minhum la-ʿalimahu llaḏīna yastanbiṭūnahū minhum wa-law-lā faḍlu llāhi ʿalaykum wa-raḥmatuhū la-ttabaʿtumu š-šayṭāna ˈillā qalīlan
When a report of safety or alarm comes to them, they immediately broadcast it; but had they referred it to the Apostle or to those vested with authority among them, those of them who investigate would have ascertained it. And were it not for Allah’s grace upon you and His mercy, you would have surely followed Satan, [all] except a few.
فَقَـٰتِلْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُكَلَّفُ إِلَّا نَفْسَكَ ۚ وَحَرِّضِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَكُفَّ بَأْسَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَشَدُّ بَأْسًا وَأَشَدُّ تَنكِيلًا
fa-qātil fī sabīli llāhi lā tukallafu ˈillā nafsaka wa-ḥarriḍi l-muˈminīna ʿasā llāhu ˈan yakuffa baˈsa llaḏīna kafarū wa-llāhu ˈašaddu baˈsan wa-ˈašaddu tankīlan
So fight in the way of Allah: you are responsible only for yourself, but urge on the faithful [to fight]. Maybe Allah will curb the might of the faithless, for Allah is greatest in might and severest in punishment.
مَّن يَشْفَعْ شَفَـٰعَةً حَسَنَةً يَكُن لَّهُۥ نَصِيبٌ مِّنْهَا ۖ وَمَن يَشْفَعْ شَفَـٰعَةً سَيِّئَةً يَكُن لَّهُۥ كِفْلٌ مِّنْهَا ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مُّقِيتًا
man yašfaʿ šafāʿatan ḥasanatan yakun lahū naṣībun minhā wa-man yašfaʿ šafāʿatan sayyiˈatan yakun lahū kiflun minhā wa-kāna llāhu ʿalā kulli šayˈin muqītan
Whoever intercedes for a good cause shall receive a share of it, and whoever intercedes for an evil cause shall share its burden, and Allah is prepotent over all things.
وَإِذَا حُيِّيتُم بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّوا۟ بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَآ أَوْ رُدُّوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَسِيبًا
wa-ˈiḏā ḥuyyītum bi-taḥiyyatin fa-ḥayyū bi-ˈaḥsana minhā ˈaw ruddūhā ˈinna llāha kāna ʿalā kulli šayˈin ḥasīban-i
When you are greeted with a salute, greet with a better one than it, or return it; indeed Allah takes account of all things.
ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۗ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ حَدِيثًا
allāhu lā ˈilāha ˈillā huwa la-yaǧmaʿannakum ˈilā yawmi l-qiyāmati lā rayba fīhi wa-man ˈaṣdaqu mina llāhi ḥadīṯan
Allah—there is no god except Him—will surely gather you on the Day of Resurrection, in which there is no doubt; and who is more truthful in speech than Allah?
فَمَا لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَٱللَّهُ أَرْكَسَهُم بِمَا كَسَبُوٓا۟ ۚ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَن تَهْدُوا۟ مَنْ أَضَلَّ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ سَبِيلًا
fa-mā lakum fī l-munāfiqīna fiˈatayni wa-llāhu ˈarkasahum bi-mā kasabū ˈa-turīdūna ˈan tahdū man ˈaḍalla llāhu wa-man yuḍlili llāhu fa-lan taǧida lahū sabīlan
Why should you be two groups concerning the hypocrites, while Allah has made them relapse [into unfaith] because of their deeds? Do you desire to guide someone Allah has led astray? Whomever Allah leads astray, you will never find any way for him.
وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ كَمَا كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَكُونُونَ سَوَآءً ۖ فَلَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءَ حَتَّىٰ يُهَاجِرُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَخُذُوهُمْ وَٱقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ وَجَدتُّمُوهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا
waddū law takfurūna ka-mā kafarū fa-takūnūna sawāˈan fa-lā tattaḫiḏū minhum ˈawliyāˈa ḥattā yuhāǧirū fī sabīli llāhi fa-ˈin tawallaw fa-ḫuḏūhum wa-qtulūhum ḥayṯu waǧadtumūhum wa-lā tattaḫiḏū minhum waliyyan wa-lā naṣīran
They are eager that you should disbelieve like they have disbelieved, so that you all become alike. So do not make friends [with anyone] from among them, until they migrate in the way of Allah. But if they turn their backs, seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and do not take from among them friends or helpers,
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۭ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَـٰقٌ أَوْ جَآءُوكُمْ حَصِرَتْ صُدُورُهُمْ أَن يُقَـٰتِلُوكُمْ أَوْ يُقَـٰتِلُوا۟ قَوْمَهُمْ ۚ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَسَلَّطَهُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ فَلَقَـٰتَلُوكُمْ ۚ فَإِنِ ٱعْتَزَلُوكُمْ فَلَمْ يُقَـٰتِلُوكُمْ وَأَلْقَوْا۟ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلسَّلَمَ فَمَا جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبِيلًا
ˈillā llaḏīna yaṣilūna ˈilā qawmin baynakum wa-baynahum mīṯāqun ˈaw ǧāˈūkum ḥaṣirat ṣudūruhum ˈan yuqātilūkum ˈaw yuqātilū qawmahum wa-law šāˈa llāhu la-sallaṭahum ʿalaykum fa-la-qātalūkum fa-ˈini ʿtazalūkum fa-lam yuqātilūkum wa-ˈalqaw ˈilaykumu s-salama fa-mā ǧaʿala llāhu lakum ʿalayhim sabīlan
excepting those who join a people between whom and you there is a treaty, or such as come to you with hearts reluctant to fight you, or to fight their own people. Had Allah wished, He would have imposed them upon you, and then they would have surely fought you. So if they keep out of your way and do not fight you, and offer you peace, then Allah does not allow you any course [of action] against them.
سَتَجِدُونَ ءَاخَرِينَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَأْمَنُوكُمْ وَيَأْمَنُوا۟ قَوْمَهُمْ كُلَّ مَا رُدُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلْفِتْنَةِ أُرْكِسُوا۟ فِيهَا ۚ فَإِن لَّمْ يَعْتَزِلُوكُمْ وَيُلْقُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلسَّلَمَ وَيَكُفُّوٓا۟ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فَخُذُوهُمْ وَٱقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ جَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنًا مُّبِينًا
sa-taǧidūna ˈāḫarīna yurīdūna ˈan yaˈmanūkum wa-yaˈmanū qawmahum kulla mā ruddū ˈilā l-fitnati ˈurkisū fīhā fa-ˈin lam yaʿtazilūkum wa-yulqū ˈilaykumu s-salama wa-yakuffū ˈaydiyahum fa-ḫuḏūhum wa-qtulūhum ḥayṯu ṯaqiftumūhum wa-ˈulāˈikum ǧaʿalnā lakum ʿalayhim sulṭānan mubīnan
You will find others desiring to be secure from you, and secure from their own people; yet whenever they are called back to polytheism, they relapse into it. So if they do not keep out of your way, nor offer you peace, nor keep their hands off [from fighting], then seize them and kill them wherever you confront them, and it is such against whom We have given you a clear sanction.
وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ أَن يَقْتُلَ مُؤْمِنًا إِلَّا خَطَـًٔا ۚ وَمَن قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا خَطَـًٔا فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ وَدِيَةٌ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن يَصَّدَّقُوا۟ ۚ فَإِن كَانَ مِن قَوْمٍ عَدُوٍّ لَّكُمْ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ ۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِن قَوْمٍۭ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَـٰقٌ فَدِيَةٌ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ وَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ ۖ فَمَن لَّمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ تَوْبَةً مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
wa-mā kāna li-muˈminin ˈan yaqtula muˈminan ˈillā ḫaṭaˈan wa-man qatala muˈminan ḫaṭaˈan fa-taḥrīru raqabatin muˈminatin wa-diyatun musallamatun ˈilā ˈahlihī ˈillā ˈan yaṣṣaddaqū fa-ˈin kāna min qawmin ʿaduwwin lakum wa-huwa muˈminun fa-taḥrīru raqabatin muˈminatin wa-ˈin kāna min qawmin baynakum wa-baynahum mīṯāqun fa-diyatun musallamatun ˈilā ˈahlihī wa-taḥrīru raqabatin muˈminatin fa-man lam yaǧid fa-ṣiyāmu šahrayni mutatābiʿayni tawbatan mina llāhi wa-kāna llāhu ʿalīman ḥakīman
A believer may not kill another believer, unless it is by mistake. Anyone who kills a believer by mistake should set free a believing slave, and pay blood-money to his family, unless they remit it in charity. If he belongs to a people that are hostile to you but is a believer, then a believing slave is to be set free. And if he belongs to a people with whom you have a treaty, the blood-money is to be paid to his family and a believing slave is to be set free. He who cannot afford [to pay the blood-money], must fast two successive months as a penance from Allah, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
وَمَن يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُّتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَآؤُهُۥ جَهَنَّمُ خَـٰلِدًا فِيهَا وَغَضِبَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَعَنَهُۥ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُۥ عَذَابًا عَظِيمًا
wa-man yaqtul muˈminan mutaʿammidan fa-ǧazāˈuhū ǧahannamu ḫālidan fīhā wa-ġaḍiba llāhu ʿalayhi wa-laʿanahū wa-ˈaʿadda lahū ʿaḏāban ʿaẓīman
Should anyone kill a believer intentionally, his requital shall be hell, to remain in it [forever]; Allah shall be wrathful at him and curse him and He shall prepare for him a great punishment.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَتَبَيَّنُوا۟ وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ لِمَنْ أَلْقَىٰٓ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا فَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَغَانِمُ كَثِيرَةٌ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ كُنتُم مِّن قَبْلُ فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَبَيَّنُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū ˈiḏā ḍarabtum fī sabīli llāhi fa-tabayyanū wa-lā taqūlū li-man ˈalqā ˈilaykumu s-salāma lasta muˈminan tabtaġūna ʿaraḍa l-ḥayāti d-dunyā fa-ʿinda llāhi maġānimu kaṯīratun ka-ḏālika kuntum min qablu fa-manna llāhu ʿalaykum fa-tabayyanū ˈinna llāha kāna bi-mā taʿmalūna ḫabīran
O you who have faith! When you issue forth in the way of Allah, try to ascertain: do not say to someone who offers you peace, ‘You are not a believer,’ seeking the transitory wares of the life of this world. Yet with Allah are plenteous gains. You too were such earlier, but Allah did you a favour. Therefore, do ascertain. Allah is indeed well aware of what you do.
لَّا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْقَـٰعِدُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُو۟لِى ٱلضَّرَرِ وَٱلْمُجَـٰهِدُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ فَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ عَلَى ٱلْقَـٰعِدِينَ دَرَجَةً ۚ وَكُلًّا وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ وَفَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ عَلَى ٱلْقَـٰعِدِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
lā yastawī l-qāʿidūna mina l-muˈminīna ġayru ˈulī ḍ-ḍarari wa-l-muǧāhidūna fī sabīli llāhi bi-ˈamwālihim wa-ˈanfusihim faḍḍala llāhu l-muǧāhidīna bi-ˈamwālihim wa-ˈanfusihim ʿalā l-qāʿidīna daraǧatan wa-kullan waʿada llāhu l-ḥusnā wa-faḍḍala llāhu l-muǧāhidīna ʿalā l-qāʿidīna ˈaǧran ʿaẓīman
Not equal are those of the faithful who sit back—excepting those who suffer from some disability—and those who wage jihad in the way of Allah with their possession and their persons. Allah has graced those who wage jihad with their possessions and their persons by a degree over those who sit back; yet to each Allah has promised the best reward, and Allah has graced those who wage jihad over those who sit back with a great reward:
دَرَجَـٰتٍ مِّنْهُ وَمَغْفِرَةً وَرَحْمَةً ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
daraǧātin minhu wa-maġfiratan wa-raḥmatan wa-kāna llāhu ġafūran raḥīman
ranks from Him, forgiveness, and mercy, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِمِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ قَالُوا۟ فِيمَ كُنتُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ كُنَّا مُسْتَضْعَفِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ قَالُوٓا۟ أَلَمْ تَكُنْ أَرْضُ ٱللَّهِ وَٰسِعَةً فَتُهَاجِرُوا۟ فِيهَا ۚ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَسَآءَتْ مَصِيرًا
ˈinna llaḏīna tawaffāhumu l-malāˈikatu ẓālimī ˈanfusihim qālū fī-ma kuntum qālū kunnā mustaḍʿafīna fī l-ˈarḍi qālū ˈa-lam takun ˈarḍu llāhi wāsiʿatan fa-tuhāǧirū fīhā fa-ˈulāˈika maˈwāhum ǧahannamu wa-sāˈat maṣīran
Indeed, those whom the angels take away while they are wronging themselves, they ask, ‘What state were you in?’ They reply, ‘We were oppressed in the land.’ They say, ‘Was not Allah’s earth vast enough so that you might migrate in it?’ The refuge of such shall be hell, and it is an evil destination.
إِلَّا ٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ ٱلرِّجَالِ وَٱلنِّسَآءِ وَٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ حِيلَةً وَلَا يَهْتَدُونَ سَبِيلًا
ˈillā l-mustaḍʿafīna mina r-riǧāli wa-n-nisāˈi wa-l-wildāni lā yastaṭīʿūna ḥīlatan wa-lā yahtadūna sabīlan
Except the oppressed among men, women and children, who have neither access to any means nor are guided to any way.
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَعْفُوَ عَنْهُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَفُوًّا غَفُورًا
fa-ˈulāˈika ʿasā llāhu ˈan yaʿfuwa ʿanhum wa-kāna llāhu ʿafuwwan ġafūran
Maybe Allah will excuse them, for Allah is all-excusing, all-forgiving.
وَمَن يُهَاجِرْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ يَجِدْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُرَٰغَمًا كَثِيرًا وَسَعَةً ۚ وَمَن يَخْرُجْ مِنۢ بَيْتِهِۦ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكْهُ ٱلْمَوْتُ فَقَدْ وَقَعَ أَجْرُهُۥ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
wa-man yuhāǧir fī sabīli llāhi yaǧid fī l-ˈarḍi murāġaman kaṯīran wa-saʿatan wa-man yaḫruǧ min baytihī muhāǧiran ˈilā llāhi wa-rasūlihī ṯumma yudrikhu l-mawtu fa-qad waqaʿa ˈaǧruhū ʿalā llāhi wa-kāna llāhu ġafūran raḥīman
Whoever migrates in the way of Allah will find many havens and plenitude in the earth. And whoever leaves his home migrating toward Allah and His Apostle, and is then overtaken by death, his reward shall certainly fall on Allah, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
وَإِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَقْصُرُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ إِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَن يَفْتِنَكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ كَانُوا۟ لَكُمْ عَدُوًّا مُّبِينًا
wa-ˈiḏā ḍarabtum fī l-ˈarḍi fa-laysa ʿalaykum ǧunāḥun ˈan taqṣurū mina ṣ-ṣalāti ˈin ḫiftum ˈan yaftinakumu llaḏīna kafarū ˈinna l-kāfirīna kānū lakum ʿaduwwan mubīnan
When you journey in the land, there is no sin upon you in shortening the prayers, if you fear that the faithless may trouble you; indeed the faithless are your manifest enemies.
وَإِذَا كُنتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَلْتَقُمْ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُم مَّعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ فَإِذَا سَجَدُوا۟ فَلْيَكُونُوا۟ مِن وَرَآئِكُمْ وَلْتَأْتِ طَآئِفَةٌ أُخْرَىٰ لَمْ يُصَلُّوا۟ فَلْيُصَلُّوا۟ مَعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوا۟ حِذْرَهُمْ وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ ۗ وَدَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ تَغْفُلُونَ عَنْ أَسْلِحَتِكُمْ وَأَمْتِعَتِكُمْ فَيَمِيلُونَ عَلَيْكُم مَّيْلَةً وَٰحِدَةً ۚ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِن كَانَ بِكُمْ أَذًى مِّن مَّطَرٍ أَوْ كُنتُم مَّرْضَىٰٓ أَن تَضَعُوٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَكُمْ ۖ وَخُذُوا۟ حِذْرَكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَعَدَّ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا
wa-ˈiḏā kunta fīhim fa-ˈaqamta lahumu ṣ-ṣalāta fa-l-taqum ṭāˈifatun minhum maʿaka wa-l-yaˈḫuḏū ˈasliḥatahum fa-ˈiḏā saǧadū fa-l-yakūnū min warāˈikum wa-l-taˈti ṭāˈifatun ˈuḫrā lam yuṣallū fa-l-yuṣallū maʿaka wa-l-yaˈḫuḏū ḥiḏrahum wa-ˈasliḥatahum wadda llaḏīna kafarū law taġfulūna ʿan ˈasliḥatikum wa-ˈamtiʿatikum fa-yamīlūna ʿalaykum maylatan wāḥidatan wa-lā ǧunāḥa ʿalaykum ˈin kāna bikum ˈaḏan min maṭarin ˈaw kuntum marḍā ˈan taḍaʿū ˈasliḥatakum wa-ḫuḏū ḥiḏrakum ˈinna llāha ˈaʿadda li-l-kāfirīna ʿaḏāban muhīnan
When you are among them, leading them in prayers, let a group of them stand with you, carrying their weapons. And when they have done the prostrations, let them withdraw to the rear, then let the other group which has not prayed come and pray with you, taking their precautions and [bearing] their weapons. The faithless are eager that you should be oblivious of your weapons and your baggage, so that they could assault you all at once. But there is no sin upon you, if you are troubled by rain or are sick, to set aside your weapons; but take your precautions. Indeed Allah has prepared for the faithless a humiliating punishment.
فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قِيَـٰمًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِكُمْ ۚ فَإِذَا ٱطْمَأْنَنتُمْ فَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَـٰبًا مَّوْقُوتًا
fa-ˈiḏā qaḍaytumu ṣ-ṣalāta fa-ḏkurū llāha qiyāman wa-quʿūdan wa-ʿalā ǧunūbikum fa-ˈiḏā ṭmaˈnantum fa-ˈaqīmū ṣ-ṣalāta ˈinna ṣ-ṣalāta kānat ʿalā l-muˈminīna kitāban mawqūtan
When you have finished the prayers, remember Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down, and when you feel secure, perform the [complete] prayers, for the prayer is indeed a timed prescription for the faithful.
وَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ فِى ٱبْتِغَآءِ ٱلْقَوْمِ ۖ إِن تَكُونُوا۟ تَأْلَمُونَ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَأْلَمُونَ كَمَا تَأْلَمُونَ ۖ وَتَرْجُونَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَرْجُونَ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
wa-lā tahinū fī btiġāˈi l-qawmi ˈin takūnū taˈlamūna fa-ˈinnahum yaˈlamūna ka-mā taˈlamūna wa-tarǧūna mina llāhi mā lā yarǧūna wa-kāna llāhu ʿalīman ḥakīman
Do not slacken in the pursuit of these people. If you are suffering, they are also suffering like you, but you expect from Allah what they do not expect, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لِتَحْكُمَ بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِمَآ أَرَىٰكَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَلَا تَكُن لِّلْخَآئِنِينَ خَصِيمًا
ˈinnā ˈanzalnā ˈilayka l-kitāba bi-l-ḥaqqi li-taḥkuma bayna n-nāsi bi-mā ˈarāka llāhu wa-lā takun li-l-ḫāˈinīna ḫaṣīman
Indeed We have sent down to you the Book with the truth, so that you may judge between the people by what Allah has shown you; do not be an advocate for the traitors,
وَٱسْتَغْفِرِ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
wa-staġfiri llāha ˈinna llāha kāna ġafūran raḥīman
and plead to Allah for forgiveness; indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
وَلَا تُجَـٰدِلْ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْتَانُونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ مَن كَانَ خَوَّانًا أَثِيمًا
wa-lā tuǧādil ʿani llaḏīna yaḫtānūna ˈanfusahum ˈinna llāha lā yuḥibbu man kāna ḫawwānan ˈaṯīman
And do not plead for those who betray themselves; indeed Allah does not like someone who is treacherous and sinful.
يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَا يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ مَعَهُمْ إِذْ يُبَيِّتُونَ مَا لَا يَرْضَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطًا
yastaḫfūna mina n-nāsi wa-lā yastaḫfūna mina llāhi wa-huwa maʿahum ˈiḏ yubayyitūna mā lā yarḍā mina l-qawli wa-kāna llāhu bi-mā yaʿmalūna muḥīṭan
They try to hide [their real character] from people, but they do not try to hide from Allah, though He is with them when they conspire overnight with a discourse that He does not approve of. And Allah comprehends whatever they do.
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ جَـٰدَلْتُمْ عَنْهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا فَمَن يُجَـٰدِلُ ٱللَّهَ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ أَم مَّن يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكِيلًا
hā-ˈantum hāˈulāˈi ǧādaltum ʿanhum fī l-ḥayāti d-dunyā fa-man yuǧādilu llāha ʿanhum yawma l-qiyāmati ˈam man yakūnu ʿalayhim wakīlan
Aha! There you are, pleading for them in the life of this world! But who will plead for them with Allah on the Day of Resurrection, or will be their defender?
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ سُوٓءًا أَوْ يَظْلِمْ نَفْسَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرِ ٱللَّهَ يَجِدِ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
wa-man yaʿmal sūˈan ˈaw yaẓlim nafsahū ṯumma yastaġfiri llāha yaǧidi llāha ġafūran raḥīman
Whoever commits evil or wrongs himself and then pleads to Allah for forgiveness, will find Allah all-forgiving, all-merciful.
وَمَن يَكْسِبْ إِثْمًا فَإِنَّمَا يَكْسِبُهُۥ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
wa-man yaksib ˈiṯman fa-ˈinnamā yaksibuhū ʿalā nafsihī wa-kāna llāhu ʿalīman ḥakīman
Whoever commits a sin, commits it only against himself; and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
وَمَن يَكْسِبْ خَطِيٓـَٔةً أَوْ إِثْمًا ثُمَّ يَرْمِ بِهِۦ بَرِيٓـًٔا فَقَدِ ٱحْتَمَلَ بُهْتَـٰنًا وَإِثْمًا مُّبِينًا
wa-man yaksib ḫaṭīˈatan ˈaw ˈiṯman ṯumma yarmi bihī barīˈan fa-qadi ḥtamala buhtānan wa-ˈiṯman mubīnan
But someone who commits an iniquity or sin and then accuses an innocent person of it, is indeed guilty of calumny and a flagrant sin.
وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكَ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ لَهَمَّت طَّآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُضِلُّوكَ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ إِلَّآ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۖ وَمَا يَضُرُّونَكَ مِن شَىْءٍ ۚ وَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَعَلَّمَكَ مَا لَمْ تَكُن تَعْلَمُ ۚ وَكَانَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكَ عَظِيمًا
wa-law-lā faḍlu llāhi ʿalayka wa-raḥmatuhū la-hammat ṭāˈifatun minhum ˈan yuḍillūka wa-mā yuḍillūna ˈillā ˈanfusahum wa-mā yaḍurrūnaka min šayˈin wa-ˈanzala llāhu ʿalayka l-kitāba wa-l-ḥikmata wa-ʿallamaka mā lam takun taʿlamu wa-kāna faḍlu llāhi ʿalayka ʿaẓīman
Were it not for Allah’s grace and His mercy on you, a group of them were bent on leading you astray; but they do not mislead anyone except themselves, and they cannot do you any harm. Allah has sent down to you the Book and wisdom, and He has taught you what you did not know, and great is Allah’s grace upon you.
لَّا خَيْرَ فِى كَثِيرٍ مِّن نَّجْوَىٰهُمْ إِلَّا مَنْ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ أَوْ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ إِصْلَـٰحٍۭ بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ ٱبْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِ ٱللَّهِ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
lā ḫayra fī kaṯīrin min naǧwāhum ˈillā man ˈamara bi-ṣadaqatin ˈaw maʿrūfin ˈaw ˈiṣlāḥin bayna n-nāsi wa-man yafʿal ḏālika btiġāˈa marḍāti llāhi fa-sawfa nuˈtīhi ˈaǧran ʿaẓīman
There is no good in much of their secret talks, excepting him who enjoins charity or what is right or reconciliation between people, and whoever does that, seeking Allah’s pleasure, soon We shall give him a great reward.
وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِۦ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصْلِهِۦ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَسَآءَتْ مَصِيرًا
wa-man yušāqiqi r-rasūla min baʿdi mā tabayyana lahu l-hudā wa-yattabiʿ ġayra sabīli l-muˈminīna nuwallihī mā tawallā wa-nuṣlihī ǧahannama wa-sāˈat maṣīran
Whoever defies the Apostle, after the guidance has become manifest to him, and follows a way other than that of the faithful, We shall abandon him to his devices and We shall make him enter hell, and it is an evil destination.
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَن يُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَـٰلًۢا بَعِيدًا
ˈinna llāha lā yaġfiru ˈan yušraka bihī wa-yaġfiru mā dūna ḏālika li-man yašāˈu wa-man yušrik bi-llāhi fa-qad ḍalla ḍalālan baʿīdan
Indeed Allah does not forgive that any partner should be ascribed to Him, but He forgives anything besides that to whomever He wishes. And whoever ascribes partners to Allah has certainly strayed into far error.
إِن يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ إِنَـٰثًا وَإِن يَدْعُونَ إِلَّا شَيْطَـٰنًا مَّرِيدًا
ˈin yadʿūna min dūnihī ˈillā ˈināṯan wa-ˈin yadʿūna ˈillā šayṭānan marīdan
They invoke none but females besides Him, and invoke none but a froward Satan,
لَّعَنَهُ ٱللَّهُ ۘ وَقَالَ لَأَتَّخِذَنَّ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ نَصِيبًا مَّفْرُوضًا
laʿanahu llāhu wa-qāla la-ˈattaḫiḏanna min ʿibādika naṣīban mafrūḍan
whom Allah has cursed, and who said, ‘I will surely take of Your servants a settled share,
وَلَأُضِلَّنَّهُمْ وَلَأُمَنِّيَنَّهُمْ وَلَـَٔامُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُبَتِّكُنَّ ءَاذَانَ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ وَلَـَٔامُرَنَّهُمْ فَلَيُغَيِّرُنَّ خَلْقَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَتَّخِذِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ وَلِيًّا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ خَسِرَ خُسْرَانًا مُّبِينًا
wa-la-ˈuḍillannahum wa-la-ˈumanniyannahum wa-la-ˈāmurannahum fa-la-yubattikunna ˈāḏāna l-ˈanʿāmi wa-la-ˈāmurannahum fa-la-yuġayyirunna ḫalqa llāhi wa-man yattaḫiḏi š-šayṭāna waliyyan min dūni llāhi fa-qad ḫasira ḫusrānan mubīnan
and I will lead them astray and give them [false] hopes, and prompt them to slit the ears of cattle, and I will prompt them to alter Allah’s creation.’ Whoever takes Satan as a guardian instead of Allah has certainly incurred a manifest loss.
يَعِدُهُمْ وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ ۖ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا
yaʿiduhum wa-yumannīhim wa-mā yaʿiduhumu š-šayṭānu ˈillā ġurūran
He makes them promises and gives them [false] hopes, yet Satan does not promise them anything but delusion.
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ عَنْهَا مَحِيصًا
ˈulāˈika maˈwāhum ǧahannamu wa-lā yaǧidūna ʿanhā maḥīṣan
The refuge of such shall be hell, and they will not find any escape from it.
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۖ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ قِيلًا
wa-llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti sa-nudḫiluhum ǧannātin taǧrī min taḥtihā l-ˈanhāru ḫālidīna fīhā ˈabadan waʿda llāhi ḥaqqan wa-man ˈaṣdaqu mina llāhi qīlan
But those who have faith and do righteous deeds, We will admit them into gardens with streams running in them, to remain in them forever—a true promise of Allah, and who is truer in speech than Allah?
لَّيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَآ أَمَانِىِّ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗ مَن يَعْمَلْ سُوٓءًا يُجْزَ بِهِۦ وَلَا يَجِدْ لَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا
laysa bi-ˈamāniyyikum wa-lā ˈamāniyyi ˈahli l-kitābi man yaʿmal sūˈan yuǧza bihī wa-lā yaǧid lahū min dūni llāhi waliyyan wa-lā naṣīran
It will be neither after your hopes nor the hopes of the People of the Book: whoever commits evil shall be requited for it, and he will not find for himself any guardian or helper besides Allah.
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ مِن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ نَقِيرًا
wa-man yaʿmal mina ṣ-ṣāliḥāti min ḏakarin ˈaw ˈunṯā wa-huwa muˈminun fa-ˈulāˈika yadḫulūna l-ǧannata wa-lā yuẓlamūna naqīran
And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, should he be faithful—such shall enter paradise and they will not be wronged [so much as] the speck on a date-stone.
وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ دِينًا مِّمَّنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُۥ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ وَٱتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًا ۗ وَٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ خَلِيلًا
wa-man ˈaḥsanu dīnan mimman ˈaslama waǧhahū li-llāhi wa-huwa muḥsinun wa-ttabaʿa millata ˈibrāhīma ḥanīfan wa-ttaḫaḏa llāhu ˈibrāhīma ḫalīlan
Who has a better religion than him who submits his will to Allah, being virtuous, and follows the creed of Abraham, a Hanif? And Allah took Abraham for a dedicated friend.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ مُّحِيطًا
wa-li-llāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-kāna llāhu bi-kulli šayˈin muḥīṭan
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allah comprehends all things.
وَيَسْتَفْتُونَكَ فِى ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۖ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ يُفْتِيكُمْ فِيهِنَّ وَمَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ فِى يَتَـٰمَى ٱلنِّسَآءِ ٱلَّـٰتِى لَا تُؤْتُونَهُنَّ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُنَّ وَتَرْغَبُونَ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ وَأَن تَقُومُوا۟ لِلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚ وَمَا تَفْعَلُوا۟ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِهِۦ عَلِيمًا
wa-yastaftūnaka fī n-nisāˈi quli llāhu yuftīkum fīhinna wa-mā yutlā ʿalaykum fī l-kitābi fī yatāmā n-nisāˈi llātī lā tuˈtūnahunna mā kutiba lahunna wa-tarġabūna ˈan tankiḥūhunna wa-l-mustaḍʿafīna mina l-wildāni wa-ˈan taqūmū li-l-yatāmā bi-l-qisṭi wa-mā tafʿalū min ḫayrin fa-ˈinna llāha kāna bihī ʿalīman
They seek your ruling concerning women. Say, ‘Allah gives you a ruling concerning them and what is announced to you in the Book concerning girl orphans—whom you do not give what has been prescribed for them, and yet you desire to marry them—and about the weak among children: that you should maintain the orphans with justice, and whatever good you do, indeed Allah knows it well.
وَإِنِ ٱمْرَأَةٌ خَافَتْ مِنۢ بَعْلِهَا نُشُوزًا أَوْ إِعْرَاضًا فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَآ أَن يُصْلِحَا بَيْنَهُمَا صُلْحًا ۚ وَٱلصُّلْحُ خَيْرٌ ۗ وَأُحْضِرَتِ ٱلْأَنفُسُ ٱلشُّحَّ ۚ وَإِن تُحْسِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا
wa-ˈini mraˈatun ḫāfat min baʿlihā nušūzan ˈaw ˈiʿrāḍan fa-lā ǧunāḥa ʿalayhimā ˈan yuṣliḥā baynahumā ṣulḥan wa-ṣ-ṣulḥu ḫayrun wa-ˈuḥḍirati l-ˈanfusu š-šuḥḥa wa-ˈin tuḥsinū wa-tattaqū fa-ˈinna llāha kāna bi-mā taʿmalūna ḫabīran
If a woman fears from her husband misconduct or desertion, there is no sin upon the couple if they reach a reconciliation between themselves; and reconcilement is better. The souls are prone to greed; but if you are virtuous and Godwary, Allah is indeed well aware of what you do.
وَلَن تَسْتَطِيعُوٓا۟ أَن تَعْدِلُوا۟ بَيْنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ ۖ فَلَا تَمِيلُوا۟ كُلَّ ٱلْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَٱلْمُعَلَّقَةِ ۚ وَإِن تُصْلِحُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
wa-lan tastaṭīʿū ˈan taʿdilū bayna n-nisāˈi wa-law ḥaraṣtum fa-lā tamīlū kulla l-mayli fa-taḏarūhā ka-l-muʿallaqati wa-ˈin tuṣliḥū wa-tattaqū fa-ˈinna llāha kāna ġafūran raḥīman
You will not be able to be fair between wives, even if you are eager to do so. Yet do not turn away from one altogether, leaving her as if in a suspense. But if you are conciliatory and Godwary, Allah is indeed all-forgiving, all-merciful.
وَإِن يَتَفَرَّقَا يُغْنِ ٱللَّهُ كُلًّا مِّن سَعَتِهِۦ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعًا حَكِيمًا
wa-ˈin yatafarraqā yuġni llāhu kullan min saʿatihī wa-kāna llāhu wāsiʿan ḥakīman
But if they separate, Allah will suffice each of them out of His bounty, and Allah is all-bounteous, all-wise.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَلَقَدْ وَصَّيْنَا ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَنِ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ وَإِن تَكْفُرُوا۟ فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَنِيًّا حَمِيدًا
wa-li-llāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-la-qad waṣṣaynā llaḏīna ˈūtū l-kitāba min qablikum wa-ˈiyyākum ˈani ttaqū llāha wa-ˈin takfurū fa-ˈinna li-llāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-kāna llāhu ġaniyyan ḥamīdan
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. We have certainly enjoined those who were given the Book before you, and you, that you should be wary of Allah. But if you are faithless, [you should know that] to Allah indeed belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allah is all-sufficient, all-laudable.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا
wa-li-llāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-kafā bi-llāhi wakīlan
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allah suffices as trustee.
إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَيَأْتِ بِـَٔاخَرِينَ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ قَدِيرًا
ˈin yašaˈ yuḏhibkum ˈayyuhā n-nāsu wa-yaˈti bi-ˈāḫarīna wa-kāna llāhu ʿalā ḏālika qadīran
If He wishes, He will take you away, O mankind, and bring others [in your place]; Allah has the power to do that.
مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ثَوَابَ ٱلدُّنْيَا فَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ ثَوَابُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا
man kāna yurīdu ṯawāba d-dunyā fa-ʿinda llāhi ṯawābu d-dunyā wa-l-ˈāḫirati wa-kāna llāhu samīʿan baṣīran
Whoever desires the reward of this world, [should know that] with Allah is the reward of this world and the Hereafter, and Allah is all-hearing, all-seeing.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ قَوَّٰمِينَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ شُهَدَآءَ لِلَّهِ وَلَوْ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَوِ ٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ ۚ إِن يَكُنْ غَنِيًّا أَوْ فَقِيرًا فَٱللَّهُ أَوْلَىٰ بِهِمَا ۖ فَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ أَن تَعْدِلُوا۟ ۚ وَإِن تَلْوُۥٓا۟ أَوْ تُعْرِضُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū kūnū qawwāmīna bi-l-qisṭi šuhadāˈa li-llāhi wa-law ʿalā ˈanfusikum ˈawi l-wālidayni wa-l-ˈaqrabīna ˈin yakun ġaniyyan ˈaw faqīran fa-llāhu ˈawlā bihimā fa-lā tattabiʿū l-hawā ˈan taʿdilū wa-ˈin talwū ˈaw tuʿriḍū fa-ˈinna llāha kāna bi-mā taʿmalūna ḫabīran
O you who have faith! Be maintainers of justice and witnesses for the sake of Allah, even if it should be against yourselves or [your] parents and near relatives, and whether it be [someone] rich or poor, for Allah has a greater right over them. So do not follow [your] desires, lest you should be unfair, and if you distort [the testimony] or disregard [it], Allah is indeed well aware of what you do.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلَّذِى نَزَّلَ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ مِن قَبْلُ ۚ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَلَـٰٓئِكَتِهِۦ وَكُتُبِهِۦ وَرُسُلِهِۦ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَـٰلًۢا بَعِيدًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū ˈāminū bi-llāhi wa-rasūlihī wa-l-kitābi llaḏī nazzala ʿalā rasūlihī wa-l-kitābi llaḏī ˈanzala min qablu wa-man yakfur bi-llāhi wa-malāˈikatihī wa-kutubihī wa-rusulihī wa-l-yawmi l-ˈāḫiri fa-qad ḍalla ḍalālan baʿīdan
O you who have faith! Have faith in Allah and His Apostle and the Book that He has sent down to His Apostle and the Book He had sent down earlier. Whoever disbelieves in Allah and His angels, His Books and His apostles and the Last Day, has certainly strayed into far error.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا۟ ثُمَّ ءَامَنُوا۟ ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا۟ ثُمَّ ٱزْدَادُوا۟ كُفْرًا لَّمْ يَكُنِ ٱللَّهُ لِيَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ وَلَا لِيَهْدِيَهُمْ سَبِيلًۢا
ˈinna llaḏīna ˈāmanū ṯumma kafarū ṯumma ˈāmanū ṯumma kafarū ṯumma zdādū kufran lam yakuni llāhu li-yaġfira lahum wa-lā li-yahdiyahum sabīlan
As for those who believe and then disbelieve, then believe [again] and then disbelieve and then increase in disbelief, Allah shall never forgive them, nor shall He guide them to any way.
بَشِّرِ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ بِأَنَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا
bašširi l-munāfiqīna bi-ˈanna lahum ʿaḏāban ˈalīman-i
Inform the hypocrites that there is a painful punishment for them
ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَّخِذُونَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۚ أَيَبْتَغُونَ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْعِزَّةَ فَإِنَّ ٱلْعِزَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعًا
allaḏīna yattaḫiḏūna l-kāfirīna ˈawliyāˈa min dūni l-muˈminīna ˈa-yabtaġūna ʿindahumu l-ʿizzata fa-ˈinna l-ʿizzata li-llāhi ǧamīʿan
—those who take the faithless for allies instead of the faithful. Do they seek honour with them? [If so,] indeed all honour belongs to Allah.
وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ أَنْ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يُكْفَرُ بِهَا وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ بِهَا فَلَا تَقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يَخُوضُوا۟ فِى حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا مِّثْلُهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ جَامِعُ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ وَٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ جَمِيعًا
wa-qad nazzala ʿalaykum fī l-kitābi ˈan ˈiḏā samiʿtum ˈāyāti llāhi yukfaru bihā wa-yustahzaˈu bihā fa-lā taqʿudū maʿahum ḥattā yaḫūḍū fī ḥadīṯin ġayrihī ˈinnakum ˈiḏan miṯluhum ˈinna llāha ǧāmiʿu l-munāfiqīna wa-l-kāfirīna fī ǧahannama ǧamīʿan-i
Certainly He has sent down to you in the Book that when you hear Allah’s signs being disbelieved and derided, do not sit with them until they engage in some other discourse, or else you [too] will be like them. Indeed Allah will gather the hypocrites and the faithless in hell all together
ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِكُمْ فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ فَتْحٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ قَالُوٓا۟ أَلَمْ نَكُن مَّعَكُمْ وَإِن كَانَ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ نَصِيبٌ قَالُوٓا۟ أَلَمْ نَسْتَحْوِذْ عَلَيْكُمْ وَنَمْنَعْكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۚ فَٱللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ وَلَن يَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَبِيلًا
allaḏīna yatarabbaṣūna bikum fa-ˈin kāna lakum fatḥun mina llāhi qālū ˈa-lam nakun maʿakum wa-ˈin kāna li-l-kāfirīna naṣībun qālū ˈa-lam nastaḥwiḏ ʿalaykum wa-namnaʿkum mina l-muˈminīna fa-llāhu yaḥkumu baynakum yawma l-qiyāmati wa-lan yaǧʿala llāhu li-l-kāfirīna ʿalā l-muˈminīna sabīlan
—those who lie in wait for you: if there is a victory for you from Allah, they say, ‘Were we not with you?’ But if the faithless get a share [of victory], they say, ‘Did we not prevail upon you and defend you against the faithful?’ Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will never provide the faithless any way [to prevail] over the faithful.
إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ يُخَـٰدِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَهُوَ خَـٰدِعُهُمْ وَإِذَا قَامُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ قَامُوا۟ كُسَالَىٰ يُرَآءُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ وَلَا يَذْكُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
ˈinna l-munāfiqīna yuḫādiʿūna llāha wa-huwa ḫādiʿuhum wa-ˈiḏā qāmū ˈilā ṣ-ṣalāti qāmū kusālā yurāˈūna n-nāsa wa-lā yaḏkurūna llāha ˈillā qalīlan
The hypocrites indeed seek to deceive Allah, but it is He who outwits them. When they stand up for prayer, they stand up lazily, showing off to the people and not remembering Allah except a little,
مُّذَبْذَبِينَ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ لَآ إِلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَلَآ إِلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ سَبِيلًا
muḏabḏabīna bayna ḏālika lā ˈilā hāˈulāˈi wa-lā ˈilā hāˈulāˈi wa-man yuḍlili llāhu fa-lan taǧida lahū sabīlan
wavering in between: neither with these, nor with those. And whomever Allah leads astray, you will never find any way for him.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۚ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَن تَجْعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنًا مُّبِينًا
yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā tattaḫiḏū l-kāfirīna ˈawliyāˈa min dūni l-muˈminīna ˈa-turīdūna ˈan taǧʿalū li-llāhi ʿalaykum sulṭānan mubīnan
O you who have faith! Do not take the faithless for friends instead of the faithful. Do you wish to give Allah a clear sanction against yourselves?
إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ فِى ٱلدَّرْكِ ٱلْأَسْفَلِ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ وَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُمْ نَصِيرًا
ˈinna l-munāfiqīna fī d-darki l-ˈasfali mina n-nāri wa-lan taǧida lahum naṣīran
Indeed the hypocrites will be in the lowest reach of the Fire, and you will never find any helper for them,
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ وَٱعْتَصَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَأَخْلَصُوا۟ دِينَهُمْ لِلَّهِ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَعَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ وَسَوْفَ يُؤْتِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
ˈillā llaḏīna tābū wa-ˈaṣlaḥū wa-ʿtaṣamū bi-llāhi wa-ˈaḫlaṣū dīnahum li-llāhi fa-ˈulāˈika maʿa l-muˈminīna wa-sawfa yuˈti llāhu l-muˈminīna ˈaǧran ʿaẓīman
except for those who repent and reform, and hold fast to Allah and dedicate their religion [exclusively] to Allah. Those are with the faithful, and soon Allah will give the faithful a great reward.
مَّا يَفْعَلُ ٱللَّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِن شَكَرْتُمْ وَءَامَنتُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًا
mā yafʿalu llāhu bi-ʿaḏābikum ˈin šakartum wa-ˈāmantum wa-kāna llāhu šākiran ʿalīman
Why should Allah punish you if you give thanks and be faithful? And Allah is appreciative, all-knowing.
لَّا يُحِبُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْجَهْرَ بِٱلسُّوٓءِ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْلِ إِلَّا مَن ظُلِمَ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ سَمِيعًا عَلِيمًا
lā yuḥibbu llāhu l-ǧahra bi-s-sūˈi mina l-qawli ˈillā man ẓulima wa-kāna llāhu samīʿan ʿalīman
Allah does not like the disclosure of [anyone’s] evil [conduct] in speech except by someone who has been wronged, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing.
إِن تُبْدُوا۟ خَيْرًا أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ أَوْ تَعْفُوا۟ عَن سُوٓءٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَفُوًّا قَدِيرًا
ˈin tubdū ḫayran ˈaw tuḫfūhu ˈaw taʿfū ʿan sūˈin fa-ˈinna llāha kāna ʿafuwwan qadīran
Whether you disclose a good [deed that you do] or hide it, or excuse an evil [deed], Allah is indeed all-excusing, all-powerful.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن يُفَرِّقُوا۟ بَيْنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ وَيَقُولُونَ نُؤْمِنُ بِبَعْضٍ وَنَكْفُرُ بِبَعْضٍ وَيُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَّخِذُوا۟ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ سَبِيلًا
ˈinna llaḏīna yakfurūna bi-llāhi wa-rusulihī wa-yurīdūna ˈan yufarriqū bayna llāhi wa-rusulihī wa-yaqūlūna nuˈminu bi-baʿḍin wa-nakfuru bi-baʿḍin wa-yurīdūna ˈan yattaḫiḏū bayna ḏālika sabīlan
Those who disbelieve in Allah and His apostles and seek to separate Allah from His apostles, and say, ‘We believe in some and disbelieve in some’ and seek to take a way in between
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ حَقًّا ۚ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا
ˈulāˈika humu l-kāfirūna ḥaqqan wa-ˈaʿtadnā li-l-kāfirīna ʿaḏāban muhīnan
—it is they who are truly faithless, and We have prepared for the faithless a humiliating punishment.
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ وَلَمْ يُفَرِّقُوا۟ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُمْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ سَوْفَ يُؤْتِيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
wa-llaḏīna ˈāmanū bi-llāhi wa-rusulihī wa-lam yufarriqū bayna ˈaḥadin minhum ˈulāˈika sawfa yuˈtīhim ˈuǧūrahum wa-kāna llāhu ġafūran raḥīman
But those who have faith in Allah and His apostles and make no distinction between any of them—them He will soon give their rewards, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
يَسْـَٔلُكَ أَهْلُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ أَن تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ كِتَـٰبًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۚ فَقَدْ سَأَلُوا۟ مُوسَىٰٓ أَكْبَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَرِنَا ٱللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ بِظُلْمِهِمْ ۚ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلْعِجْلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ فَعَفَوْنَا عَن ذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ سُلْطَـٰنًا مُّبِينًا
yasˈaluka ˈahlu l-kitābi ˈan tunazzila ʿalayhim kitāban mina s-samāˈi fa-qad saˈalū mūsā ˈakbara min ḏālika fa-qālū ˈarinā llāha ǧahratan fa-ˈaḫaḏathumu ṣ-ṣāʿiqatu bi-ẓulmihim ṯumma ttaḫaḏū l-ʿiǧla min baʿdi mā ǧāˈathumu l-bayyinātu fa-ʿafawnā ʿan ḏālika wa-ˈātaynā mūsā sulṭānan mubīnan
The People of the Book ask you to bring down for them a Book from the sky. Certainly they asked Moses for [something] greater than that, for they said, ‘Show us Allah visibly,’ whereat a thunderbolt seized them for their wrongdoing. Then they took up the Calf [for worship], after all the manifest proofs that had come to them. Yet We excused that, and We gave Moses a manifest authority.
وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَهُمُ ٱلطُّورَ بِمِيثَـٰقِهِمْ وَقُلْنَا لَهُمُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ لَا تَعْدُوا۟ فِى ٱلسَّبْتِ وَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُم مِّيثَـٰقًا غَلِيظًا
wa-rafaʿnā fawqahumu ṭ-ṭūra bi-mīṯāqihim wa-qulnā lahumu dḫulū l-bāba suǧǧadan wa-qulnā lahum lā taʿdū fī s-sabti wa-ˈaḫaḏnā minhum mīṯāqan ġalīẓan
And We raised the Mount above them for the sake of their covenant, and We said to them, ‘Enter the gate prostrating’ and We said to them, ‘Do not violate the Sabbath,’ and We took from them a solemn covenant.
فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِم مِّيثَـٰقَهُمْ وَكُفْرِهِم بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَتْلِهِمُ ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَقَوْلِهِمْ قُلُوبُنَا غُلْفٌۢ ۚ بَلْ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
fa-bi-mā naqḍihim mīṯāqahum wa-kufrihim bi-ˈāyāti llāhi wa-qatlihimu l-ˈanbiyāˈa bi-ġayri ḥaqqin wa-qawlihim qulūbunā ġulfun bal ṭabaʿa llāhu ʿalayhā bi-kufrihim fa-lā yuˈminūna ˈillā qalīlan
Then because of their breaking their covenant, their defiance of Allah’s signs, their killing of the prophets unjustly and for their saying, ‘Our hearts are uncircumcised’… Indeed, Allah has set a seal on them for their unfaith, so they do not have faith except a few.
وَبِكُفْرِهِمْ وَقَوْلِهِمْ عَلَىٰ مَرْيَمَ بُهْتَـٰنًا عَظِيمًا
wa-bi-kufrihim wa-qawlihim ʿalā maryama buhtānan ʿaẓīman
And for their faithlessness, and their uttering a monstrous calumny against Mary,
وَقَوْلِهِمْ إِنَّا قَتَلْنَا ٱلْمَسِيحَ عِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ وَمَا صَلَبُوهُ وَلَـٰكِن شُبِّهَ لَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِيهِ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ ۚ مَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِلَّا ٱتِّبَاعَ ٱلظَّنِّ ۚ وَمَا قَتَلُوهُ يَقِينًۢا
wa-qawlihim ˈinnā qatalnā l-masīḥa ʿīsā bna maryama rasūla llāhi wa-mā qatalūhu wa-mā ṣalabūhu wa-lākin šubbiha lahum wa-ˈinna llaḏīna ḫtalafū fīhi la-fī šakkin minhu mā lahum bihī min ʿilmin ˈillā ttibāʿa ẓ-ẓanni wa-mā qatalūhu yaqīnan
and for their saying, ‘We killed the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, the apostle of Allah’—though they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but so it was made to appear to them. Indeed those who differ concerning him are surely in doubt about him: they do not have any knowledge of that beyond following conjectures, and certainly, they did not kill him.
بَل رَّفَعَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا
bal rafaʿahu llāhu ˈilayhi wa-kāna llāhu ʿazīzan ḥakīman
Indeed, Allah raised him up toward Himself, and Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.
وَإِن مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِلَّا لَيُؤْمِنَنَّ بِهِۦ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِۦ ۖ وَيَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ يَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ شَهِيدًا
wa-ˈin min ˈahli l-kitābi ˈillā la-yuˈminanna bihī qabla mawtihī wa-yawma l-qiyāmati yakūnu ʿalayhim šahīdan
There is none among the People of the Book but will surely believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.
فَبِظُلْمٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ حَرَّمْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ طَيِّبَـٰتٍ أُحِلَّتْ لَهُمْ وَبِصَدِّهِمْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ كَثِيرًا
fa-bi-ẓulmin mina llaḏīna hādū ḥarramnā ʿalayhim ṭayyibātin ˈuḥillat lahum wa-bi-ṣaddihim ʿan sabīli llāhi kaṯīran
Due to the wrongdoing of the Jews, We prohibited them certain good things that were permitted to them [earlier], and for their barring many [people] from the way of Allah,
وَأَخْذِهِمُ ٱلرِّبَوٰا۟ وَقَدْ نُهُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَأَكْلِهِمْ أَمْوَٰلَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ ۚ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ مِنْهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا
wa-ˈaḫḏihimu r-ribā wa-qad nuhū ʿanhu wa-ˈaklihim ˈamwāla n-nāsi bi-l-bāṭili wa-ˈaʿtadnā li-l-kāfirīna minhum ʿaḏāban ˈalīman
and for their taking usury—though they had been forbidden from it—and for eating up the wealth of the people wrongfully. And We have prepared for the faithless among them a painful punishment.
لَّـٰكِنِ ٱلرَّٰسِخُونَ فِى ٱلْعِلْمِ مِنْهُمْ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ وَٱلْمُقِيمِينَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۚ وَٱلْمُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ سَنُؤْتِيهِمْ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
lākini r-rāsiḫūna fī l-ʿilmi minhum wa-l-muˈminūna yuˈminūna bi-mā ˈunzila ˈilayka wa-mā ˈunzila min qablika wa-l-muqīmīna ṣ-ṣalāta wa-l-muˈtūna z-zakāta wa-l-muˈminūna bi-llāhi wa-l-yawmi l-ˈāḫiri ˈulāˈika sa-nuˈtīhim ˈaǧran ʿaẓīman
But as for those who are firmly grounded in knowledge from among them, and the faithful, they believe in what has been sent down to you, and what was sent down before you—those who maintain the prayer, give the zakat, and believe in Allah and the Last Day—them We shall give a great reward.
إِنَّآ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ كَمَآ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ نُوحٍ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ ۚ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَٱلْأَسْبَاطِ وَعِيسَىٰ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُونُسَ وَهَـٰرُونَ وَسُلَيْمَـٰنَ ۚ وَءَاتَيْنَا دَاوُۥدَ زَبُورًا
ˈinnā ˈawḥaynā ˈilayka ka-mā ˈawḥaynā ˈilā nūḥin wa-n-nabiyyīna min baʿdihī wa-ˈawḥaynā ˈilā ˈibrāhīma wa-ˈismāʿīla wa-ˈisḥāqa wa-yaʿqūba wa-l-ˈasbāṭi wa-ʿīsā wa-ˈayyūba wa-yūnusa wa-hārūna wa-sulaymāna wa-ˈātaynā dāwūda zabūran
We have indeed revealed to you as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him, and [as] We revealed to Abraham and Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, Jesus and Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon—and We gave David the Psalms—
وَرُسُلًا قَدْ قَصَصْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَيْكَ مِن قَبْلُ وَرُسُلًا لَّمْ نَقْصُصْهُمْ عَلَيْكَ ۚ وَكَلَّمَ ٱللَّهُ مُوسَىٰ تَكْلِيمًا
wa-rusulan qad qaṣaṣnāhum ʿalayka min qablu wa-rusulan lam naqṣuṣhum ʿalayka wa-kallama llāhu mūsā taklīman
and apostles We have recounted to you earlier and apostles We have not recounted to you—and to Moses Allah spoke directly—
رُّسُلًا مُّبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ حُجَّةٌۢ بَعْدَ ٱلرُّسُلِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًا
rusulan mubašširīna wa-munḏirīna li-ˈallā yakūna li-n-nāsi ʿalā llāhi ḥuǧǧatun baʿda r-rusuli wa-kāna llāhu ʿazīzan ḥakīman
apostles, as bearers of good news and warners, so that mankind may not have any argument against Allah, after the [sending of the] apostles; and Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.
لَّـٰكِنِ ٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ أَنزَلَهُۥ بِعِلْمِهِۦ ۖ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدًا
lākini llāhu yašhadu bi-mā ˈanzala ˈilayka ˈanzalahū bi-ʿilmihī wa-l-malāˈikatu yašhadūna wa-kafā bi-llāhi šahīdan
But Allah bears witness to what He has sent down to you—He sent it down with His knowledge—and the angels bear witness [too], and Allah quite suffices as witness.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ قَدْ ضَلُّوا۟ ضَلَـٰلًۢا بَعِيدًا
ˈinna llaḏīna kafarū wa-ṣaddū ʿan sabīli llāhi qad ḍallū ḍalālan baʿīdan
Indeed those who are faithless and bar [others] from the way of Allah, have certainly strayed into far error.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَظَلَمُوا۟ لَمْ يَكُنِ ٱللَّهُ لِيَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ وَلَا لِيَهْدِيَهُمْ طَرِيقًا
ˈinna llaḏīna kafarū wa-ẓalamū lam yakuni llāhu li-yaġfira lahum wa-lā li-yahdiyahum ṭarīqan
Indeed those who are faithless and do wrong, Allah shall never forgive them, nor shall He guide them to any way,
إِلَّا طَرِيقَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا ۚ وَكَانَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرًا
ˈillā ṭarīqa ǧahannama ḫālidīna fīhā ˈabadan wa-kāna ḏālika ʿalā llāhi yasīran
except the way to hell, to remain in it forever, and that is easy for Allah.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَكُمُ ٱلرَّسُولُ بِٱلْحَقِّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ فَـَٔامِنُوا۟ خَيْرًا لَّكُمْ ۚ وَإِن تَكْفُرُوا۟ فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
yā-ˈayyuhā n-nāsu qad ǧāˈakumu r-rasūlu bi-l-ḥaqqi min rabbikum fa-ˈāminū ḫayran lakum wa-ˈin takfurū fa-ˈinna li-llāhi mā fī s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-kāna llāhu ʿalīman ḥakīman
O mankind! The Apostle has certainly brought you the truth from your Lord. So have faith! That is better for you. And if you are faithless, [you should know that] to Allah indeed belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَا تَغْلُوا۟ فِى دِينِكُمْ وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلْحَقَّ ۚ إِنَّمَا ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ وَكَلِمَتُهُۥٓ أَلْقَىٰهَآ إِلَىٰ مَرْيَمَ وَرُوحٌ مِّنْهُ ۖ فَـَٔامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ ۖ وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ ثَلَـٰثَةٌ ۚ ٱنتَهُوا۟ خَيْرًا لَّكُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا ٱللَّهُ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۖ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥٓ أَن يَكُونَ لَهُۥ وَلَدٌ ۘ لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ وَكِيلًا
yā-ˈahla l-kitābi lā taġlū fī dīnikum wa-lā taqūlū ʿalā llāhi ˈillā l-ḥaqqa ˈinnamā l-masīḥu ʿīsā bnu maryama rasūlu llāhi wa-kalimatuhū ˈalqāhā ˈilā maryama wa-rūḥun minhu fa-ˈāminū bi-llāhi wa-rusulihī wa-lā taqūlū ṯalāṯatun-i ntahū ḫayran lakum ˈinnamā llāhu ˈilāhun wāḥidun subḥānahū ˈan yakūna lahū waladun lahū mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-kafā bi-llāhi wakīlan
O People of the Book! Do not exceed the bounds in your religion, and do not attribute anything to Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only an apostle of Allah, and His Word that He cast toward Mary and a spirit from Him. So have faith in Allah and His apostles, and do not say, ‘[God is] a trinity.’ Relinquish [such a creed]! That is better for you. Allah is but the One God. He is far too immaculate to have any son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allah suffices as trustee.
لَّن يَسْتَنكِفَ ٱلْمَسِيحُ أَن يَكُونَ عَبْدًا لِّلَّهِ وَلَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ۚ وَمَن يَسْتَنكِفْ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَيَسْتَكْبِرْ فَسَيَحْشُرُهُمْ إِلَيْهِ جَمِيعًا
lan yastankifa l-masīḥu ˈan yakūna ʿabdan li-llāhi wa-lā l-malāˈikatu l-muqarrabūna wa-man yastankif ʿan ʿibādatihī wa-yastakbir fa-sa-yaḥšuruhum ˈilayhi ǧamīʿan
The Messiah would never disdain being a servant of Allah, nor would the angels brought near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant, He will gather them all toward Him.
فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ وَيَزِيدُهُم مِّن فَضْلِهِۦ ۖ وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَنكَفُوا۟ وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فَيُعَذِّبُهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا وَلَا يَجِدُونَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا
fa-ˈammā llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti fa-yuwaffīhim ˈuǧūrahum wa-yazīduhum min faḍlihī wa-ˈammā llaḏīna stankafū wa-stakbarū fa-yuʿaḏḏibuhum ʿaḏāban ˈalīman wa-lā yaǧidūna lahum min dūni llāhi waliyyan wa-lā naṣīran
As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, He will pay them in full their rewards, and He will enhance them out of His grace. But those who are disdainful and arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they will not find besides Allah any guardian or helper.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَكُم بُرْهَـٰنٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَأَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ نُورًا مُّبِينًا
yā-ˈayyuhā n-nāsu qad ǧāˈakum burhānun min rabbikum wa-ˈanzalnā ˈilaykum nūran mubīnan
O mankind! Certainly, a proof has come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a manifest light.
فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱعْتَصَمُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَسَيُدْخِلُهُمْ فِى رَحْمَةٍ مِّنْهُ وَفَضْلٍ وَيَهْدِيهِمْ إِلَيْهِ صِرَٰطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا
fa-ˈammā llaḏīna ˈāmanū bi-llāhi wa-ʿtaṣamū bihī fa-sa-yudḫiluhum fī raḥmatin minhu wa-faḍlin wa-yahdīhim ˈilayhi ṣirāṭan mustaqīman
As for those who have faith in Allah, and hold fast to Him, He will admit them to His mercy and grace, and He will guide them on a straight path to Him.
يَسْتَفْتُونَكَ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ يُفْتِيكُمْ فِى ٱلْكَلَـٰلَةِ ۚ إِنِ ٱمْرُؤٌا۟ هَلَكَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ وَلَدٌ وَلَهُۥٓ أُخْتٌ فَلَهَا نِصْفُ مَا تَرَكَ ۚ وَهُوَ يَرِثُهَآ إِن لَّمْ يَكُن لَّهَا وَلَدٌ ۚ فَإِن كَانَتَا ٱثْنَتَيْنِ فَلَهُمَا ٱلثُّلُثَانِ مِمَّا تَرَكَ ۚ وَإِن كَانُوٓا۟ إِخْوَةً رِّجَالًا وَنِسَآءً فَلِلذَّكَرِ مِثْلُ حَظِّ ٱلْأُنثَيَيْنِ ۗ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ أَن تَضِلُّوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۢ
yastaftūnaka quli llāhu yuftīkum fī l-kalālati ˈini mruˈun halaka laysa lahū waladun wa-lahū ˈuḫtun fa-lahā niṣfu mā taraka wa-huwa yariṯuhā ˈin lam yakun lahā waladun fa-ˈin kānatā ṯnatayni fa-lahumā ṯ-ṯuluṯāni mimmā taraka wa-ˈin kānū ˈiḫwatan riǧālan wa-nisāˈan fa-li-ḏ-ḏakari miṯlu ḥaẓẓi l-ˈunṯayayni yubayyinu llāhu lakum ˈan taḍillū wa-llāhu bi-kulli šayˈin ʿalīmun
They ask you for a ruling. Say, ‘Allah gives you a ruling concerning the kalalah: If a man dies and has no children [or parents], but has a sister, for her shall be a half of what he leaves, and he shall inherit from her if she has no children. If there be two sisters, then they shall receive two-thirds of what he leaves. But if there be [several] brothers and sisters, then for the male shall be the like of the share of two females. Allah explains [the laws] for you lest you should go astray, and Allah has knowledge of all things.’
