Surah Al-Hujuraat

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 49:1

   يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ بَيْنَ يَدَىِ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ﴿١﴾

   yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā tuqaddimū bayna yadayi llāhi wa-rasūlihī wa-ttaqū llāha ˈinna llāha samīʿun ʿalīmun

   O you who have faith! Do not venture ahead of Allah and His Apostle, and be wary of Allah. Indeed Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing.

2. 49:2

   يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَرْفَعُوٓا۟ أَصْوَٰتَكُمْ فَوْقَ صَوْتِ ٱلنَّبِىِّ وَلَا تَجْهَرُوا۟ لَهُۥ بِٱلْقَوْلِ كَجَهْرِ بَعْضِكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ أَن تَحْبَطَ أَعْمَـٰلُكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَشْعُرُونَ﴿٢﴾

   yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā tarfaʿū ˈaṣwātakum fawqa ṣawti n-nabiyyi wa-lā taǧharū lahū bi-l-qawli ka-ǧahri baʿḍikum li-baʿḍin ˈan taḥbaṭa ˈaʿmālukum wa-ˈantum lā tašʿurūna

   O you who have faith! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet, and do not speak aloud to him like you shout to one another, lest your works should fail without your being aware.

3. 49:3

   إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَغُضُّونَ أَصْوَٰتَهُمْ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱمْتَحَنَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ لِلتَّقْوَىٰ ۚ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ﴿٣﴾

   ˈinna llaḏīna yaġuḍḍūna ˈaṣwātahum ʿinda rasūli llāhi ˈulāˈika llaḏīna mtaḥana llāhu qulūbahum li-t-taqwā lahum maġfiratun wa-ˈaǧrun ʿaẓīmun

   Indeed those who lower their voices in the presence of the Apostle of Allah—they are the ones whose hearts Allah has tested for Godwariness. For them will be forgiveness and a great reward.

4. 49:4

   إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُنَادُونَكَ مِن وَرَآءِ ٱلْحُجُرَٰتِ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ﴿٤﴾

   ˈinna llaḏīna yunādūnaka min warāˈi l-ḥuǧurāti ˈakṯaruhum lā yaʿqilūna

   Indeed those who call you from behind the apartments, most of them do not use their reason.

5. 49:5

   وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ صَبَرُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ تَخْرُجَ إِلَيْهِمْ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿٥﴾

   wa-law ˈannahum ṣabarū ḥattā taḫruǧa ˈilayhim la-kāna ḫayran lahum wa-llāhu ġafūrun raḥīmun

   Had they been patient until you came out for them, it would have been better for them, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.

6. 49:6

   يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن جَآءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌۢ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوٓا۟ أَن تُصِيبُوا۟ قَوْمًۢا بِجَهَـٰلَةٍ فَتُصْبِحُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلْتُمْ نَـٰدِمِينَ﴿٦﴾

   yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū ˈin ǧāˈakum fāsiqun bi-nabaˈin fa-tabayyanū ˈan tuṣībū qawman bi-ǧahālatin fa-tuṣbiḥū ʿalā mā faʿaltum nādimīna

   O you who have faith! If a vicious character brings you some news, verify it, lest you should visit [harm] on some people out of ignorance, and then become regretful for what you have done.

7. 49:7

   وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ فِيكُمْ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ لَوْ يُطِيعُكُمْ فِى كَثِيرٍ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ لَعَنِتُّمْ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْإِيمَـٰنَ وَزَيَّنَهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْكُفْرَ وَٱلْفُسُوقَ وَٱلْعِصْيَانَ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلرَّٰشِدُونَ﴿٧﴾

   wa-ʿlamū ˈanna fīkum rasūla llāhi law yuṭīʿukum fī kaṯīrin mina l-ˈamri la-ʿanittum wa-lākinna llāha ḥabbaba ˈilaykumu l-ˈīmāna wa-zayyanahū fī qulūbikum wa-karraha ˈilaykumu l-kufra wa-l-fusūqa wa-l-ʿiṣyāna ˈulāˈika humu r-rāšidūna

   Know that the Apostle of Allah is among you. Should he comply with you in many matters, you would surely suffer. But Allah has endeared faith to you and made it appealing in your hearts, and He has made hateful to you faithlessness, transgression and disobedience. It is such who are the right-minded—

8. 49:8

   فَضْلًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَنِعْمَةً ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ﴿٨﴾

   faḍlan mina llāhi wa-niʿmatan wa-llāhu ʿalīmun ḥakīmun

   a grace and blessing from Allah, and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.

9. 49:9

   وَإِن طَآئِفَتَانِ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱقْتَتَلُوا۟ فَأَصْلِحُوا۟ بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَإِنۢ بَغَتْ إِحْدَىٰهُمَا عَلَى ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ فَقَـٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّتِى تَبْغِى حَتَّىٰ تَفِىٓءَ إِلَىٰٓ أَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن فَآءَتْ فَأَصْلِحُوا۟ بَيْنَهُمَا بِٱلْعَدْلِ وَأَقْسِطُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُقْسِطِينَ﴿٩﴾

   wa-ˈin ṭāˈifatāni mina l-muˈminīna qtatalū fa-ˈaṣliḥū baynahumā fa-ˈin baġat ˈiḥdāhumā ʿalā l-ˈuḫrā fa-qātilū llatī tabġī ḥattā tafīˈa ˈilā ˈamri llāhi fa-ˈin fāˈat fa-ˈaṣliḥū baynahumā bi-l-ʿadli wa-ˈaqsiṭū ˈinna llāha yuḥibbu l-muqsiṭīna

   If two groups of the faithful fight one another, make peace between them. But if one party of them aggresses against the other, fight the one which aggresses until it returns to Allah’s ordinance. Then, if it returns, make peace between them fairly, and do justice. Indeed Allah loves the just.

10. 49:10

    إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا۟ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ﴿١٠﴾

    ˈinnamā l-muˈminūna ˈiḫwatun fa-ˈaṣliḥū bayna ˈaḫawaykum wa-ttaqū llāha laʿallakum turḥamūna

    The faithful are indeed brothers. Therefore, make peace between your brothers and be wary of Allah, so that you may receive [His] mercy.

11. 49:11

    يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِّن قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونُوا۟ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا نِسَآءٌ مِّن نِّسَآءٍ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُنَّ ۖ وَلَا تَلْمِزُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا۟ بِٱلْأَلْقَـٰبِ ۖ بِئْسَ ٱلِٱسْمُ ٱلْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ ٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ ۚ وَمَن لَّمْ يَتُبْ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ﴿١١﴾

    yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū lā yasḫar qawmun min qawmin ʿasā ˈan yakūnū ḫayran minhum wa-lā nisāˈun min nisāˈin ʿasā ˈan yakunna ḫayran minhunna wa-lā talmizū ˈanfusakum wa-lā tanābazū bi-l-ˈalqābi biˈsa l-ˈismu l-fusūqu baʿda l-ˈīmāni wa-man lam yatub fa-ˈulāˈika humu ẓ-ẓālimūna

    O you who have faith! Let not any people ridicule another people: it may be that they are better than they are; nor let women [ridicule] women: it may be that they are better than they are. And do not defame one another, nor insult one another by [calling] nicknames. How evil are profane names subsequent to faith! As for those who are not penitent [of their past conduct]—such are the wrongdoers.

12. 49:12

    يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ كَثِيرًا مِّنَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ ۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا۟ وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا ۚ أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَن يَأْكُلَ لَحْمَ أَخِيهِ مَيْتًا فَكَرِهْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿١٢﴾

    yā-ˈayyuhā llaḏīna ˈāmanū ǧtanibū kaṯīran mina ẓ-ẓanni ˈinna baʿḍa ẓ-ẓanni ˈiṯmun wa-lā taǧassasū wa-lā yaġtab baʿḍukum baʿḍan ˈa-yuḥibbu ˈaḥadukum ˈan yaˈkula laḥma ˈaḫīhi maytan fa-karihtumūhu wa-ttaqū llāha ˈinna llāha tawwābun raḥīmun

    O you who have faith! Avoid much suspicion; indeed some suspicions are sins. And do not spy on one another or backbite. Will any of you love to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. Be wary of Allah; indeed Allah is all-clement, all-merciful.

13. 49:13

    يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَـٰكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَآئِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَتْقَىٰكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ﴿١٣﴾

    yā-ˈayyuhā n-nāsu ˈinnā ḫalaqnākum min ḏakarin wa-ˈunṯā wa-ǧaʿalnākum šuʿūban wa-qabāˈila li-taʿārafū ˈinna ˈakramakum ʿinda llāhi ˈatqākum ˈinna llāha ʿalīmun ḫabīrun

    O mankind! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you nations and tribes that you may identify yourselves with one another. Indeed the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the most Godwary among you. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-aware.

14. 49:14

    قَالَتِ ٱلْأَعْرَابُ ءَامَنَّا ۖ قُل لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ وَلَـٰكِن قُولُوٓا۟ أَسْلَمْنَا وَلَمَّا يَدْخُلِ ٱلْإِيمَـٰنُ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ ۖ وَإِن تُطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ لَا يَلِتْكُم مِّنْ أَعْمَـٰلِكُمْ شَيْـًٔا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴿١٤﴾

    qālati l-ˈaʿrābu ˈāmannā qul lam tuˈminū wa-lākin qūlū ˈaslamnā wa-lammā yadḫuli l-ˈīmānu fī qulūbikum wa-ˈin tuṭīʿū llāha wa-rasūlahū lā yalitkum min ˈaʿmālikum šayˈan ˈinna llāha ġafūrun raḥīmun

    The Bedouins say, ‘We have faith.’ Say, ‘You do not have faith yet; rather, say, ‘‘We have embraced Islam,’’ for faith has not yet entered into your hearts. Yet if you obey Allah and His Apostle, He will not stint anything of [the reward of] your works. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.’

15. 49:15

    إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَرْتَابُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلصَّـٰدِقُونَ﴿١٥﴾

    ˈinnamā l-muˈminūna llaḏīna ˈāmanū bi-llāhi wa-rasūlihī ṯumma lam yartābū wa-ǧāhadū bi-ˈamwālihim wa-ˈanfusihim fī sabīli llāhi ˈulāˈika humu ṣ-ṣādiqūna

    The faithful are only those who have attained faith in Allah and His Apostle and then have never doubted, and who wage jihad with their possessions and their persons in the way of Allah. It is they who are the truthful.

16. 49:16

    قُلْ أَتُعَلِّمُونَ ٱللَّهَ بِدِينِكُمْ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ﴿١٦﴾

    qul ˈa-tuʿallimūna llāha bi-dīnikum wa-llāhu yaʿlamu mā fī s-samāwāti wa-mā fī l-ˈarḍi wa-llāhu bi-kulli šayˈin ʿalīmun

    Say, ‘Will you inform Allah about your faith while Allah knows whatever there is in the heavens and whatever there is in the earth, and Allah has knowledge of all things?’

17. 49:17

    يَمُنُّونَ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ أَسْلَمُوا۟ ۖ قُل لَّا تَمُنُّوا۟ عَلَىَّ إِسْلَـٰمَكُم ۖ بَلِ ٱللَّهُ يَمُنُّ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ هَدَىٰكُمْ لِلْإِيمَـٰنِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ﴿١٧﴾

    yamunnūna ʿalayka ˈan ˈaslamū qul lā tamunnū ʿalayya ˈislāmakum bali llāhu yamunnu ʿalaykum ˈan hadākum li-l-ˈīmāni ˈin kuntum ṣādiqīna

    They count it as a favour to you that they have embraced Islam. Say, ‘Do not count your embracing of Islam as a favour to me. No, it is Allah who has done you a favour in that He has guided you to faith, if you are truthful [in your claim].

18. 49:18

    إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ﴿١٨﴾

    ˈinna llāha yaʿlamu ġayba s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-llāhu baṣīrun bi-mā taʿmalūna

    Indeed Allah knows the Unseen of the heavens and the earth, and Allah watches what you do.’
