Surah Qaaf

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 50:1

   قٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْمَجِيدِ﴿١﴾

   q (qāf) wa-l-qurˈāni l-maǧīdi

   Qaf. By the glorious Quran.

2. 50:2

   بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ﴿٢﴾

   bal ʿaǧibū ˈan ǧāˈahum munḏirun minhum fa-qāla l-kāfirūna hāḏā šayˈun ʿaǧībun

   Indeed they consider it odd that a warner from among themselves should have come to them. So the faithless say, ‘This is an odd thing.’

3. 50:3

   أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌ﴿٣﴾

   ˈa-ˈiḏā mitnā wa-kunnā turāban ḏālika raǧʿun baʿīdun

   ‘What! When we are dead and have become dust, [shall we be raised again]? That is a far-fetched return!’

4. 50:4

   قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ﴿٤﴾

   qad ʿalimnā mā tanquṣu l-ˈarḍu minhum wa-ʿindanā kitābun ḥafīẓun

   We know what the earth diminishes from them, and with Us is a preserving Book.

5. 50:5

   بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ﴿٥﴾

   bal kaḏḏabū bi-l-ḥaqqi lammā ǧāˈahum fa-hum fī ˈamrin marīǧin

   Indeed, they denied the truth when it came to them; so they are now in a perplexed state of affairs.

6. 50:6

   أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ﴿٦﴾

   ˈa-fa-lam yanẓurū ˈilā s-samāˈi fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wa-zayyannāhā wa-mā lahā min furūǧin

   Have they not, then, observed the heaven above them, how We have built it and adorned it, and that there are no cracks in it?

7. 50:7

   وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ﴿٧﴾

   wa-l-ˈarḍa madadnāhā wa-ˈalqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-ˈanbatnā fīhā min kulli zawǧin bahīǧin

   And We spread out the earth, and cast in it firm mountains, and caused every delightful kind [of vegetation] to grow in it.

8. 50:8

   تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ﴿٨﴾

   tabṣiratan wa-ḏikrā li-kulli ʿabdin munībin

   [In this there is] an insight and admonition for every penitent servant.

9. 50:9

   وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً مُّبَـٰرَكًا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَحَبَّ ٱلْحَصِيدِ﴿٩﴾

   wa-nazzalnā mina s-samāˈi māˈan mubārakan fa-ˈanbatnā bihī ǧannātin wa-ḥabba l-ḥaṣīdi

   We send down from the sky salubrious water, with which We grow gardens and the grain which is harvested,

10. 50:10

    وَٱلنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَـٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيدٌ﴿١٠﴾

    wa-n-naḫla bāsiqātin lahā ṭalʿun naḍīdun

    and tall date palms with regularly set spathes,

11. 50:11

    رِّزْقًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخُرُوجُ﴿١١﴾

    rizqan li-l-ʿibādi wa-ˈaḥyaynā bihī baldatan maytan ka-ḏālika l-ḫurūǧu

    as a provision for Our servants, and with it We revive a dead country. Likewise will be the rising [from the dead].

12. 50:12

    كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ﴿١٢﴾

    kaḏḏabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-ˈaṣḥābu r-rassi wa-ṯamūdu

    The people of Noah denied before them, and [so did] the people of Rass and Thamud,

13. 50:13

    وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍ﴿١٣﴾

    wa-ʿādun wa-firʿawnu wa-ˈiḫwānu lūṭin

    and ‘Ad, Pharaoh, and the brethren of Lot,

14. 50:14

    وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ ۚ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ﴿١٤﴾

    wa-ˈaṣhābu l-ˈaykati wa-qawmu tubbaʿin kullun kaḏḏaba r-rusula fa-ḥaqqa waʿīdi

    and the inhabitants of Aykah and the people of Tubbac. Each [of them] impugned the apostles, and so My threat became due [against them].

15. 50:15

    أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلْخَلْقِ ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍ مِّنْ خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ﴿١٥﴾

    ˈa-fa-ʿayīnā bi-l-ḫalqi l-ˈawwali bal hum fī labsin min ḫalqin ǧadīdin

    Have We been exhausted by the first creation? No, they are in doubt about a new creation.

16. 50:16

    وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ﴿١٦﴾

    wa-la-qad ḫalaqnā l-ˈinsāna wa-naʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihī nafsuhū wa-naḥnu ˈaqrabu ˈilayhi min ḥabli l-warīdi

    Certainly We have created man and We know to what his soul tempts him, and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein.

17. 50:17

    إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌ﴿١٧﴾

    ˈiḏ yatalaqqā l-mutalaqqiyāni ʿani l-yamīni wa-ʿani š-šimāli qaʿīdun

    When the twin recorders record [his deeds], seated on the right hand and on the left:

18. 50:18

    مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ﴿١٨﴾

    mā yalfiẓu min qawlin ˈillā ladayhi raqībun ʿatīdun

    he says no word but that there is a ready observer beside him.

19. 50:19

    وَجَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ﴿١٩﴾

    wa-ǧāˈat sakratu l-mawti bi-l-ḥaqqi ḏālika mā kunta minhu taḥīdu

    The throes of death bring the truth: ‘This is what you used to shun!’

20. 50:20

    وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْوَعِيدِ﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-nufiḫa fī ṣ-ṣūri ḏālika yawmu l-waʿīdi

    And the Trumpet will be blown: ‘This is the promised day.’

21. 50:21

    وَجَآءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّعَهَا سَآئِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ﴿٢١﴾

    wa-ǧāˈat kullu nafsin maʿahā sāˈiqun wa-šahīdun

    Every soul will come accompanied by [two angels], a driver, and a witness:

22. 50:22

    لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ﴿٢٢﴾

    la-qad kunta fī ġaflatin min hāḏā fa-kašafnā ʿanka ġiṭāˈaka fa-baṣaruka l-yawma ḥadīdun

    [he will be told] ‘You were certainly oblivious of this. We have removed your veil from you, and so today your eyesight is acute.’

23. 50:23

    وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَىَّ عَتِيدٌ﴿٢٣﴾

    wa-qāla qarīnuhū hāḏā mā ladayya ʿatīdun

    Then his companion [angel] will say, ‘This is what is ready with me [of his record of deeds].’

24. 50:24

    أَلْقِيَا فِى جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ﴿٢٤﴾

    ˈalqiyā fī ǧahannama kulla kaffārin ʿanīdin

    [The two angels accompany him will be told,] ‘Cast every obdurate ingrate into hell,

25. 50:25

    مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِيبٍ﴿٢٥﴾

    mannāʿin li-l-ḫayri muʿtadin murībin-i

    [every] hinderer of good, transgressor, and skeptic,

26. 50:26

    ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِيدِ﴿٢٦﴾

    allaḏī ǧaʿala maʿa llāhi ˈilāhan ˈāḫara fa-ˈalqiyāhu fī l-ʿaḏābi š-šadīdi

    who had set up another god along with Allah and cast him into the severe punishment.’

27. 50:27

    قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ﴿٢٧﴾

    qāla qarīnuhū rabbanā mā ˈaṭġaytuhū wa-lākin kāna fī ḍalālin baʿīdin

    His companion [devil] will say, ‘Our Lord! I did not incite him to rebel [against You], but he was [himself] in extreme error.’

28. 50:28

    قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَىَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِٱلْوَعِيدِ﴿٢٨﴾

    qāla lā taḫtaṣimū ladayya wa-qad qaddamtu ˈilaykum bi-l-waʿīdi

    He will say, ‘Do not wrangle in My presence, for I had already warned you in advance.

29. 50:29

    مَا يُبَدَّلُ ٱلْقَوْلُ لَدَىَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ﴿٢٩﴾

    mā yubaddalu l-qawlu ladayya wa-mā ˈana bi-ẓallāmin li-l-ʿabīdi

    The word [of judgement] is unalterable with Me, and I am not tyrannical to My servants.’

30. 50:30

    يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدٍ﴿٣٠﴾

    yawma naqūlu li-ǧahannama hali mtalaˈti wa-taqūlu hal min mazīdin

    The day when We shall say to hell, ‘Are you full?’ It will say, ‘Is there any more?’

31. 50:31

    وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ﴿٣١﴾

    wa-ˈuzlifati l-ǧannatu li-l-muttaqīna ġayra baʿīdin

    And paradise will be brought near for the Godwary, it will not be distant [any more]:

32. 50:32

    هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ﴿٣٢﴾

    hāḏā mā tūʿadūna li-kulli ˈawwābin ḥafīẓin

    ‘This is what you were promised. [It is] for every penitent and dutiful [servant]

33. 50:33

    مَّنْ خَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ﴿٣٣﴾

    man ḫašiya r-raḥmāna bi-l-ġaybi wa-ǧāˈa bi-qalbin munībin-i

    who fears the All-beneficent in secret and comes with a penitent heart.

34. 50:34

    ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُلُودِ﴿٣٤﴾

    udḫulūhā bi-salāmin ḏālika yawmu l-ḫulūdi

    Enter it in peace! This is the day of immortality.’

35. 50:35

    لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ﴿٣٥﴾

    lahum mā yašāˈūna fīhā wa-ladaynā mazīdun

    There they will have whatever they wish, and with Us there is yet more.

36. 50:36

    وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ هَلْ مِن مَّحِيصٍ﴿٣٦﴾

    wa-kam ˈahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum ˈašaddu minhum baṭšan fa-naqqabū fī l-bilādi hal min maḥīṣin

    How many generations We have destroyed before them, who were stronger than these, insomuch that they ransacked the towns?! So, is there any escape [from Allah’s punishment]?

37. 50:37

    إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ﴿٣٧﴾

    ˈinna fī ḏālika la-ḏikrā li-man kāna lahū qalbun ˈaw ˈalqā s-samʿa wa-huwa šahīdun

    There is indeed an admonition in that for one who has a heart, or gives ear, being attentive.

38. 50:38

    وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ﴿٣٨﴾

    wa-la-qad ḫalaqnā s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍa wa-mā baynahumā fī sittati ˈayyāmin wa-mā massanā min luġūbin

    Certainly We created the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them, in six days, and any fatigue did not touch Us.

39. 50:39

    فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ ٱلْغُرُوبِ﴿٣٩﴾

    fa-ṣbir ʿalā mā yaqūlūna wa-sabbiḥ bi-ḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulūʿi š-šamsi wa-qabla l-ġurūbi

    So be patient at what they say, and celebrate the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before the sunset,

40. 50:40

    وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَأَدْبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ﴿٤٠﴾

    wa-mina l-layli fa-sabbiḥhu wa-ˈadbāra s-suǧūdi

    and glorify Him through part of the night and after the prostrations.

41. 50:41

    وَٱسْتَمِعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ ٱلْمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ﴿٤١﴾

    wa-stamiʿ yawma yunādi l-munādi min makānin qarībin

    And be on the alert for the day when the caller calls from a close quarter,

42. 50:42

    يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ﴿٤٢﴾

    yawma yasmaʿūna ṣ-ṣayḥata bi-l-ḥaqqi ḏālika yawmu l-ḫurūǧi

    the day when they hear the Cry in all truth. That is the day of rising [from the dead].

43. 50:43

    إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْنَا ٱلْمَصِيرُ﴿٤٣﴾

    ˈinnā naḥnu nuḥyī wa-numītu wa-ˈilaynā l-maṣīru

    Indeed it is We who give life and bring death, and toward Us is the [final] destination.

44. 50:44

    يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ﴿٤٤﴾

    yawma tašaqqaqu l-ˈarḍu ʿanhum sirāʿan ḏālika ḥašrun ʿalaynā yasīrun

    The day the earth is split open for [disentombing] them, [they will come out] hastening. That mustering is easy for Us [to carry out].

45. 50:45

    نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِجَبَّارٍ ۖ فَذَكِّرْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ﴿٤٥﴾

    naḥnu ˈaʿlamu bi-mā yaqūlūna wa-mā ˈanta ʿalayhim bi-ǧabbārin fa-ḏakkir bi-l-qurˈāni man yaḫāfu waʿīdi

    We know well what they say, and you are not there to compel them. So admonish by the Quran those who fear My threat.
