Surah Adh-Dhaariyat

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 51:1

   وَٱلذَّٰرِيَـٰتِ ذَرْوًا﴿١﴾

   wa-ḏ-ḏāriyāti ḏarwan

   By the scattering [winds] that scatter [the clouds];

2. 51:2

   فَٱلْحَـٰمِلَـٰتِ وِقْرًا﴿٢﴾

   fa-l-ḥāmilāti wiqran

   by the [rain] bearing [clouds] laden [with water];

3. 51:3

   فَٱلْجَـٰرِيَـٰتِ يُسْرًا﴿٣﴾

   fa-l-ǧāriyāti yusran

   by [the ships] which move gently [on the sea];

4. 51:4

   فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَـٰتِ أَمْرًا﴿٤﴾

   fa-l-muqassimāti ˈamran

   by [the angels] who dispense [livelihood] by [His] command:

5. 51:5

   إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٌ﴿٥﴾

   ˈinnamā tūʿadūna la-ṣādiqun

   indeed what you are promised is true,

6. 51:6

   وَإِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ لَوَٰقِعٌ﴿٦﴾

   wa-ˈinna d-dīna la-wāqiʿun

   and indeed the retribution will surely come to pass!

7. 51:7

   وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْحُبُكِ﴿٧﴾

   wa-s-samāˈi ḏāti l-ḥubuki

   By the sky full of adornment [with stars],

8. 51:8

   إِنَّكُمْ لَفِى قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ﴿٨﴾

   ˈinnakum la-fī qawlin muḫtalifin

   indeed you are of different opinions!

9. 51:9

   يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ﴿٩﴾

   yuˈfaku ʿanhu man ˈufika

   He who has been turned away [from the truth] is turned away from it.

10. 51:10

    قُتِلَ ٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَ﴿١٠﴾

    qutila-l-ḫarrāṣūna

    Perish the liars,

11. 51:11

    ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَ﴿١١﴾

    allaḏīna hum fī ġamratin sāhūna

    who are heedless in a stupor!

12. 51:12

    يَسْـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ﴿١٢﴾

    yasˈalūna ˈayyāna yawmu d-dīni

    They ask, ‘When will be the Day of Retribution?’

13. 51:13

    يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ﴿١٣﴾

    yawma hum ʿalā n-nāri yuftanūna

    It is the day when they will be tormented in the Fire,

14. 51:14

    ذُوقُوا۟ فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ﴿١٤﴾

    ḏūqū fitnatakum hāḏā llaḏī kuntum bihī tastaʿǧilūna

    [and will be told]: ‘Taste your torment. This is what you used to hasten.’

15. 51:15

    إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ﴿١٥﴾

    ˈinna l-muttaqīna fī ǧannātin wa-ʿuyūnin

    Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and springs,

16. 51:16

    ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ﴿١٦﴾

    ˈāḫiḏīna mā ˈātāhum rabbuhum ˈinnahum kānū qabla ḏālika muḥsinīna

    receiving what their Lord has given them, for they had been virtuous aforetime.

17. 51:17

    كَانُوا۟ قَلِيلًا مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ﴿١٧﴾

    kānū qalīlan mina l-layli mā yahǧaʿūna

    They used to sleep a little during the night,

18. 51:18

    وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ﴿١٨﴾

    wa-bi-l-ˈasḥāri hum yastaġfirūna

    and at dawns they would plead for forgiveness,

19. 51:19

    وَفِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ﴿١٩﴾

    wa-fī ˈamwālihim ḥaqqun li-s-sāˈili wa-l-maḥrūmi

    and there was a share in their wealth for the beggar and the deprived.

20. 51:20

    وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ءَايَـٰتٌ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-fī l-ˈarḍi ˈāyātun li-l-mūqinīna

    In the earth are signs for those who have conviction,

21. 51:21

    وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿٢١﴾

    wa-fī ˈanfusikum ˈa-fa-lā tubṣirūna

    and in your souls [as well]. Will you not then perceive?

22. 51:22

    وَفِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ﴿٢٢﴾

    wa-fī s-samāˈi rizqukum wa-mā tūʿadūna

    And in the sky is your provision and what you are promised.

23. 51:23

    فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقٌّ مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ﴿٢٣﴾

    fa-wa-rabbi s-samāˈi wa-l-ˈarḍi ˈinnahū la-ḥaqqun miṯla mā ˈannakum tanṭiqūna

    By the Lord of the sky and the earth, it is indeed the truth, just as [it is a fact that] you speak.

24. 51:24

    هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ﴿٢٤﴾

    hal ˈatāka ḥadīṯu ḍayfi ˈibrāhīma l-mukramīna

    Did you receive the story of Abraham’s honoured guests?

25. 51:25

    إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ﴿٢٥﴾

    ˈiḏ daḫalū ʿalayhi fa-qālū salāman qāla salāmun qawmun munkarūna

    When they entered into his presence, they said, ‘Peace!’ ‘Peace!’ He answered, ‘[You are] an unfamiliar folk.’

26. 51:26

    فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ﴿٢٦﴾

    fa-rāġa ˈilā ˈahlihī fa-ǧāˈa bi-ʿiǧlin samīnin

    Then he retired to his family and brought a fat [roasted] calf,

27. 51:27

    فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ﴿٢٧﴾

    fa-qarrabahū ˈilayhim qāla ˈa-lā taˈkulūna

    and put it near them. He said, ‘Will you not eat?’

28. 51:28

    فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ﴿٢٨﴾

    fa-ˈawǧasa minhum ḫīfatan qālū lā taḫaf wa-baššarūhu bi-ġulāmin ʿalīmin

    Then he felt a fear of them. They said, ‘Do not be afraid!’ and they gave him the good news of a wise son.

29. 51:29

    فَأَقْبَلَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ فِى صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌ﴿٢٩﴾

    fa-ˈaqbalati mraˈatuhū fī ṣarratin fa-ṣakkat waǧhahā wa-qālat ʿaǧūzun ʿaqīmun

    Then his wife came forward crying [with joy]. She beat her face, and said, ‘A barren old woman!’

30. 51:30

    قَالُوا۟ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ﴿٣٠﴾

    qālū ka-ḏāliki qāla rabbuki ˈinnahū huwa l-ḥakīmu l-ʿalīmu

    They said, ‘So has your Lord said. Indeed He is the All-wise, the All-knowing.’

31. 51:31

    قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ﴿٣١﴾

    qāla fa-mā ḫaṭbukum ˈayyuhā l-mursalūna

    He said, ‘O messengers, what is now your errand?’

32. 51:32

    قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ﴿٣٢﴾

    qālū ˈinnā ˈursilnā ˈilā qawmin muǧrimīna

    They said, ‘We have been sent toward a guilty people,

33. 51:33

    لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن طِينٍ﴿٣٣﴾

    li-nursila ʿalayhim ḥiǧāratan min ṭīnin

    that We may rain upon them stones of clay,

34. 51:34

    مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ﴿٣٤﴾

    musawwamatan ʿinda rabbika li-l-musrifīna

    sent for the transgressors from your Lord.

35. 51:35

    فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٣٥﴾

    fa-ˈaḫraǧnā man kāna fīhā mina l-muˈminīna

    So We picked out those who were in it of the faithful,

36. 51:36

    فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ﴿٣٦﴾

    fa-mā waǧadnā fīhā ġayra baytin mina l-muslimīna

    but We did not find there other than one house of Muslims,

37. 51:37

    وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ﴿٣٧﴾

    wa-taraknā fīhā ˈāyatan li-llaḏīna yaḫāfūna l-ʿaḏāba l-ˈalīma

    and We have left therein a sign for those who fear a painful punishment.’

38. 51:38

    وَفِى مُوسَىٰٓ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ﴿٣٨﴾

    wa-fī mūsā ˈiḏ ˈarsalnāhu ˈilā firʿawna bi-sulṭānin mubīnin

    And in Moses [too there is a sign] when We sent him to Pharaoh with a manifest authority.

39. 51:39

    فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَـٰحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ﴿٣٩﴾

    fa-tawallā bi-ruknihī wa-qāla sāḥirun ˈaw maǧnūnun

    But he turned away assured of his might, and said, ‘A magician or a crazy man!’

40. 51:40

    فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ﴿٤٠﴾

    fa-ˈaḫaḏnāhu wa-ǧunūdahū fa-nabaḏnāhum fī l-yammi wa-huwa mulīmun

    So We seized him and his hosts, and cast them into the sea, while he was blameworthy.

41. 51:41

    وَفِى عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلْعَقِيمَ﴿٤١﴾

    wa-fī ʿādin ˈiḏ ˈarsalnā ʿalayhimu r-rīḥa l-ʿaqīma

    And in ‘Ad when We unleashed upon them a barren wind.

42. 51:42

    مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَىْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ﴿٤٢﴾

    mā taḏaru min šayˈin ˈatat ʿalayhi ˈillā ǧaʿalathu ka-r-ramīmi

    It left nothing that it came upon without making it like decayed bones.

43. 51:43

    وَفِى ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ﴿٤٣﴾

    wa-fī ṯamūda ˈiḏ qīla lahum tamattaʿū ḥattā ḥīnin

    And in Thamud, when they were told, ‘Enjoy for a while.’

44. 51:44

    فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ﴿٤٤﴾

    fa-ʿataw ʿan ˈamri rabbihim fa-ˈaḫaḏathumu ṣ-ṣāʿiqatu wa-hum yanẓurūna

    Then they defied the command of their Lord; so the thunderbolt seized them as they looked on.

45. 51:45

    فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مِن قِيَامٍ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِينَ﴿٤٥﴾

    fa-mā staṭāʿū min qiyāmin wa-mā kānū muntaṣirīna

    So they were neither able to rise up, nor to come to one another’s aid.

46. 51:46

    وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَ﴿٤٦﴾

    wa-qawma nūḥin min qablu ˈinnahum kānū qawman fāsiqīna

    And the people of Noah aforetime. Indeed, they were a transgressing lot.

47. 51:47

    وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا بِأَيْي۟دٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ﴿٤٧﴾

    wa-s-samāˈa banaynāhā bi-ˈaydin wa-ˈinnā la-mūsiʿūna

    We have built the heaven with might, and indeed it is We who are its expanders.

48. 51:48

    وَٱلْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَـٰهَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَـٰهِدُونَ﴿٤٨﴾

    wa-l-ˈarḍa farašnāhā fa-niʿma l-māhidūna

    And We have spread out the earth, so how excellent spreaders We have been!

49. 51:49

    وَمِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ﴿٤٩﴾

    wa-min kulli šayˈin ḫalaqnā zawǧayni laʿallakum taḏakkarūna

    In all things We have created pairs so that you may take admonition.

50. 51:50

    فَفِرُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿٥٠﴾

    fa-firrū ˈilā llāhi ˈinnī lakum minhu naḏīrun mubīnun

    ‘So flee toward Allah. Indeed, I am from Him a manifest warner to you.

51. 51:51

    وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿٥١﴾

    wa-lā taǧʿalū maʿa llāhi ˈilāhan ˈāḫara ˈinnī lakum minhu naḏīrun mubīnun

    Do not set up another god besides Allah. Indeed I am from Him a manifest warner to you.’

52. 51:52

    كَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ﴿٥٢﴾

    ka-ḏālika mā ˈatā llaḏīna min qablihim min rasūlin ˈillā qālū sāḥirun ˈaw maǧnūnun

    So it was that there did not come any apostle to those who were before them but they said, ‘A magician,’ or ‘A crazy man!’

53. 51:53

    أَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ﴿٥٣﴾

    ˈa-tawāṣaw bihī bal hum qawmun ṭāġūna

    Did they enjoin this upon one another?! Rather, they were a rebellious lot.

54. 51:54

    فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِمَلُومٍ﴿٥٤﴾

    fa-tawalla ʿanhum fa-mā ˈanta bi-malūmin

    So turn away from them, as you will not be blameworthy.

55. 51:55

    وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴿٥٥﴾

    wa-ḏakkir fa-ˈinna ḏ-ḏikrā tanfaʿu l-muˈminīna

    And admonish, for admonition indeed benefits the faithful.

56. 51:56

    وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ﴿٥٦﴾

    wa-mā ḫalaqtu l-ǧinna wa-l-ˈinsa ˈillā li-yaʿbudūni

    I did not create the jinn and the humans except that they may worship Me.

57. 51:57

    مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ﴿٥٧﴾

    mā ˈurīdu minhum min rizqin wa-mā ˈurīdu ˈan yuṭʿimūni

    I desire no provision from them, nor do I desire that they should feed Me.

58. 51:58

    إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ﴿٥٨﴾

    ˈinna llāha huwa r-razzāqu ḏū l-quwwati l-matīnu

    Indeed it is Allah who is the All-provider, Powerful and All-strong.

59. 51:59

    فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَـٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ﴿٥٩﴾

    fa-ˈinna li-llaḏīna ẓalamū ḏanūban miṯla ḏanūbi ˈaṣḥābihim fa-lā yastaʿǧilūni

    Indeed the lot of those who do wrong [now] will be like the lot of their [earlier] counterparts. So let them not ask Me to hasten on [that fate].

60. 51:60

    فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن يَوْمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ﴿٦٠﴾

    fa-waylun li-llaḏīna kafarū min yawmihimu llaḏī yūʿadūna

    Woe to the faithless for the day they are promised!
