Surah At-Tur

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 52:1

   وَٱلطُّورِ﴿١﴾

   wa-ṭ-ṭūri

   By the Mount [Sinai],

2. 52:2

   وَكِتَـٰبٍ مَّسْطُورٍ﴿٢﴾

   wa-kitābin masṭūrin

   by the Book inscribed

3. 52:3

   فِى رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ﴿٣﴾

   fī raqqin manšūrin

   on an unrolled parchment;

4. 52:4

   وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْمَعْمُورِ﴿٤﴾

   wa-l-bayti l-maʿmūri

   by the House greatly frequented;

5. 52:5

   وَٱلسَّقْفِ ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ﴿٥﴾

   wa-s-saqfi l-marfūʿi

   by the vault raised high,

6. 52:6

   وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ﴿٦﴾

   wa-l-baḥri l-masǧūri

   by the surging sea:

7. 52:7

   إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٌ﴿٧﴾

   ˈinna ʿaḏāba rabbika la-wāqiʿun

   indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely befall.

8. 52:8

   مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعٍ﴿٨﴾

   mā lahū min dāfiʿin

   There is none who can avert it.

9. 52:9

   يَوْمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوْرًا﴿٩﴾

   yawma tamūru s-samāˈu mawran

   On the day when the sky whirls violently,

10. 52:10

    وَتَسِيرُ ٱلْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا﴿١٠﴾

    wa-tasīru l-ǧibālu sayran

    and the mountains move with an awful motion:

11. 52:11

    فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿١١﴾

    fa-waylun yawmaˈiḏin li-l-mukaḏḏibīna

    woe to the deniers on that day

12. 52:12

    ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ﴿١٢﴾

    allaḏīna hum fī ḫawḍin yalʿabūna

    —those who play around in vain talk,

13. 52:13

    يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا﴿١٣﴾

    yawma yudaʿʿūna ˈilā n-nāri ǧahannama daʿʿan

    the day when they will be shoved forcibly toward the fire of hell, [and told:]

14. 52:14

    هَـٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ﴿١٤﴾

    hāḏihi n-nāru llatī kuntum bihā tukaḏḏibūna

    ‘This is the Fire which you used to deny!

15. 52:15

    أَفَسِحْرٌ هَـٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ﴿١٥﴾

    ˈa-fa-siḥrun hāḏā ˈam ˈantum lā tubṣirūna

    Is this, then, [also] magic, or is it you who do not perceive?

16. 52:16

    ٱصْلَوْهَا فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿١٦﴾

    iṣlawhā fa-ṣbirū ˈaw lā taṣbirū sawāˈun ʿalaykum ˈinnamā tuǧzawna mā kuntum taʿmalūna

    Enter it, and it will be the same for you whether you are patient or impatient. You are only being requited for what you used to do.’

17. 52:17

    إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ﴿١٧﴾

    ˈinna l-muttaqīna fī ǧannātin wa-naʿīmin

    Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and bliss,

18. 52:18

    فَـٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ﴿١٨﴾

    fākihīna bi-mā ˈātāhum rabbuhum wa-waqāhum rabbuhum ʿaḏāba l-ǧaḥīmi

    rejoicing because of what their Lord has given them, and that their Lord has saved them from the punishment of hell.

19. 52:19

    كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ﴿١٩﴾

    kulū wa-šrabū hanīˈan bi-mā kuntum taʿmalūna

    [They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [as a reward] for what you used to do.’

20. 52:20

    مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ﴿٢٠﴾

    muttakiˈīna ʿalā sururin maṣfūfatin wa-zawwaǧnāhum bi-ḥūrin ʿīnin

    They will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed houris.

21. 52:21

    وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَـٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَآ أَلَتْنَـٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ﴿٢١﴾

    wa-llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ttabaʿathum ḏurriyyatuhum bi-ˈīmānin ˈalḥaqnā bihim ḏurriyyatahum wa-mā ˈalatnāhum min ʿamalihim min šayˈin kullu mriˈin bi-mā kasaba rahīnun

    The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith—We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every person is hostage to what he has earned.

22. 52:22

    وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰهُم بِفَـٰكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ﴿٢٢﴾

    wa-ˈamdadnāhum bi-fākihatin wa-laḥmin mimmā yaštahūna

    We will provide them with fruits and meat, such as they desire.

23. 52:23

    يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ﴿٢٣﴾

    yatanāzaʿūna fīhā kaˈsan lā laġwun fīhā wa-lā taˈṯīmun

    There they will pass from hand to hand a cup wherein there will be neither any vain talk nor sinful speech.

24. 52:24

    وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ﴿٢٤﴾

    wa-yaṭūfu ʿalayhim ġilmānun lahum ka-ˈannahum luˈluˈun maknūnun

    They will be waited upon by their youths, as if they were guarded pearls.

25. 52:25

    وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ﴿٢٥﴾

    wa-ˈaqbala baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin yatasāˈalūna

    They will turn to one another, questioning each other.

26. 52:26

    قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ﴿٢٦﴾

    qālū ˈinnā kunnā qablu fī ˈahlinā mušfiqīna

    They will say, ‘Indeed, aforetime, we used to be apprehensive about our families.

27. 52:27

    فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ﴿٢٧﴾

    fa-manna llāhu ʿalaynā wa-waqānā ʿaḏāba s-samūmi

    But Allah showed us favour and He saved us from the punishment of the [infernal] miasma.

28. 52:28

    إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ﴿٢٨﴾

    ˈinnā kunnā min qablu nadʿūhu ˈinnahū huwa l-barru r-raḥīmu

    We used to supplicate Him aforetime. Indeed He is the All-benign, the All-merciful.’

29. 52:29

    فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ﴿٢٩﴾

    fa-ḏakkir fa-mā ˈanta bi-niʿmati rabbika bi-kāhinin wa-lā maǧnūnin

    So admonish. By your Lord’s blessing, you are not a soothsayer, nor mad.

30. 52:30

    أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ ٱلْمَنُونِ﴿٣٠﴾

    ˈam yaqūlūna šāʿirun natarabbaṣu bihī rayba l-manūni

    Do they say, ‘[He is] a poet, for whom we await a fatal accident’?

31. 52:31

    قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ﴿٣١﴾

    qul tarabbaṣū fa-ˈinnī maʿakum mina l-mutarabbiṣīna

    Say, ‘Wait! I too am waiting along with you.’

32. 52:32

    أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَـٰمُهُم بِهَـٰذَآ ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ﴿٣٢﴾

    ˈam taʿmuruhum ˈaḥlāmuhum bi-hāḏā ˈam hum qawmun ṭāġūna

    Is it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot?

33. 52:33

    أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿٣٣﴾

    ˈam yaqūlūna taqawwalahū bal lā yuˈminūna

    Do they say, ‘He has improvised it [himself]?’ Rather, they have no faith!

34. 52:34

    فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ﴿٣٤﴾

    fa-l-yaˈtū bi-ḥadīṯin miṯlihī ˈin kānū ṣādiqīna

    Let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful.

35. 52:35

    أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ﴿٣٥﴾

    ˈam ḫuliqū min ġayri šayˈin ˈam humu l-ḫāliqūna

    Were they created from nothing? Or are they [their own] creators?

36. 52:36

    أَمْ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ﴿٣٦﴾

    ˈam ḫalaqū s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍa bal lā yūqinūna

    Did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no certainty!

37. 52:37

    أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ﴿٣٧﴾

    ˈam ʿindahum ḫazāˈinu rabbika ˈam humu l-muṣayṭirūna

    Do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or do they control [them]?

38. 52:38

    أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ﴿٣٨﴾

    ˈam lahum sullamun yastamiʿūna fīhi fa-l-yaˈti mustamiʿuhum bi-sulṭānin mubīnin

    Do they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they eavesdrop? If so, let their eavesdropper produce a manifest authority.

39. 52:39

    أَمْ لَهُ ٱلْبَنَـٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ﴿٣٩﴾

    ˈam lahu l-banātu wa-lakumu l-banūna

    Does He have daughters while you have sons?

40. 52:40

    أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ﴿٤٠﴾

    ˈam tasˈaluhum ˈaǧran fa-hum min maġramin muṯqalūna

    Do you ask them for a reward, so that they are [wary of] being weighed down with debt?

41. 52:41

    أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ﴿٤١﴾

    ˈam ʿindahumu l-ġaybu fa-hum yaktubūna

    Do they have [access to] the Unseen, which they write down?

42. 52:42

    أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ﴿٤٢﴾

    ˈam yurīdūna kaydan fa-llaḏīna kafarū humu l-makīdūna

    Do they seek to outmaneuver [Allah]? But it is the faithless who are the outmaneuvered ones!

43. 52:43

    أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ﴿٤٣﴾

    ˈam lahum ˈilāhun ġayru llāhi subḥāna llāhi ʿammā yušrikūna

    Do they have any god other than Allah? Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]!

44. 52:44

    وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌ مَّرْكُومٌ﴿٤٤﴾

    wa-ˈin yaraw kisfan mina s-samāˈi sāqiṭan yaqūlū saḥābun markūmun

    Were they to see a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, ‘A cumulous cloud.’

45. 52:45

    فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ﴿٤٥﴾

    fa-ḏarhum ḥattā yulāqū yawmahumu llaḏī fīhi yuṣʿaqūna

    So leave them until they encounter the day when they will be thunderstruck,

46. 52:46

    يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ﴿٤٦﴾

    yawma lā yuġnī ʿanhum kayduhum šayˈan wa-lā hum yunṣarūna

    the day when their guile will not avail them in any way, nor will they be helped.

47. 52:47

    وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ﴿٤٧﴾

    wa-ˈinna li-llaḏīna ẓalamū ʿaḏāban dūna ḏālika wa-lākinna ˈakṯarahum lā yaʿlamūna

    Indeed there is a punishment besides that for those who do wrong, but most of them do not know.

48. 52:48

    وَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ﴿٤٨﴾

    wa-ṣbir li-ḥukmi rabbika fa-ˈinnaka bi-ˈaʿyuninā wa-sabbiḥ bi-ḥamdi rabbika ḥīna taqūmu

    So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn],

49. 52:49

    وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَـٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ﴿٤٩﴾

    wa-mina l-layli fa-sabbiḥhu wa-ˈidbāra n-nuǧūmi

    and also glorify Him during the night and at the receding of the stars.
