Surah Nooh

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 71:1

   إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ﴿١﴾

   ˈinnā ˈarsalnā nūḥan ˈilā qawmihī ˈan ˈanḏir qawmaka min qabli ˈan yaˈtiyahum ʿaḏābun ˈalīmun

   Indeed We sent Noah to his people, [saying,] ‘Warn your people before a painful punishment overtakes them.’

2. 71:2

   قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ﴿٢﴾

   qāla yā-qawmi ˈinnī lakum naḏīrun mubīnun

   He said, ‘O my people! Indeed, I am a manifest warner to you.

3. 71:3

   أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ﴿٣﴾

   ˈani ʿbudū llāha wa-ttaqūhu wa-ˈaṭīʿūni

   Worship Allah and be wary of Him, and obey me,

4. 71:4

   يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ﴿٤﴾

   yaġfir lakum min ḏunūbikum wa-yuˈaḫḫirkum ˈilā ˈaǧalin musamman ˈinna ˈaǧala llāhi ˈiḏā ǧāˈa lā yuˈaḫḫaru law kuntum taʿlamūna

   that He may forgive you some of your sins and respite you until a specified time. Indeed when Allah’s [appointed] time comes, it cannot be deferred, if you know.’

5. 71:5

   قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا﴿٥﴾

   qāla rabbi ˈinnī daʿawtu qawmī laylan wa-nahāran

   He said, ‘My Lord! Indeed, I have summoned my people night and day

6. 71:6

   فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا﴿٦﴾

   fa-lam yazidhum duʿāˈī ˈillā firāran

   but my summons only increases their evasion.

7. 71:7

   وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا۟ أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا۟ وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ ٱسْتِكْبَارًا﴿٧﴾

   wa-ˈinnī kullamā daʿawtuhum li-taġfira lahum ǧaʿalū ˈaṣābiʿahum fī ˈāḏānihim wa-staġšaw ṯiyābahum wa-ˈaṣarrū wa-stakbarū stikbāran

   Indeed whenever I have summoned them, so that You might forgive them, they would put their fingers into their ears and draw their cloaks over their heads, and they were persistent [in their unfaith], and disdainful in [their] arrogance.

8. 71:8

   ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا﴿٨﴾

   ṯumma ˈinnī daʿawtuhum ǧihāran

   Again I summoned them aloud,

9. 71:9

   ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا﴿٩﴾

   ṯumma ˈinnī ˈaʿlantu lahum wa-ˈasrartu lahum ˈisrāran

   and again appealed to them publicly and confided with them privately,

10. 71:10

    فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا﴿١٠﴾

    fa-qultu staġfirū rabbakum ˈinnahū kāna ġaffāran

    telling [them]: ‘‘Plead to your Lord for forgiveness. Indeed, He is all-forgiving.

11. 71:11

    يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا﴿١١﴾

    yursili s-samāˈa ʿalaykum midrāran

    He will send for you abundant rains from the sky,

12. 71:12

    وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًا﴿١٢﴾

    wa-yumdidkum bi-ˈamwālin wa-banīna wa-yaǧʿal lakum ǧannātin wa-yaǧʿal lakum ˈanhāran

    and aid you with wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and provide you with streams.

13. 71:13

    مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا﴿١٣﴾

    mā lakum lā tarǧūna li-llāhi waqāran

    What is the matter with you that you do not look upon Allah with veneration,

14. 71:14

    وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا﴿١٤﴾

    wa-qad ḫalaqakum ˈaṭwāran

    though He has created you in [various] stages?

15. 71:15

    أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا﴿١٥﴾

    ˈa-lam taraw kayfa ḫalaqa llāhu sabʿa samāwātin ṭibāqan

    Have you not seen how Allah has created the seven heavens in layers,

16. 71:16

    وَجَعَلَ ٱلْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا﴿١٦﴾

    wa-ǧaʿala l-qamara fīhinna nūran wa-ǧaʿala š-šamsa sirāǧan

    and has made therein the moon for a light and the sun for a lamp?

17. 71:17

    وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا﴿١٧﴾

    wa-llāhu ˈanbatakum mina l-ˈarḍi nabātan

    Allah made you grow from the earth, with a [vegetable] growth.

18. 71:18

    ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا﴿١٨﴾

    ṯumma yuʿīdukum fīhā wa-yuḫriǧukum ˈiḫrāǧan

    Then He makes you return to it, and He will bring you forth [without fail].

19. 71:19

    وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا﴿١٩﴾

    wa-llāhu ǧaʿala lakumu l-ˈarḍa bisāṭan

    Allah has made the earth a vast expanse for you

20. 71:20

    لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا﴿٢٠﴾

    li-taslukū minhā subulan fiǧāǧan

    so that you may travel over its spacious ways.’’ ’

21. 71:21

    قَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًا﴿٢١﴾

    qāla nūḥun rabbi ˈinnahum ʿaṣawnī wa-ttabaʿū man lam yazidhu māluhū wa-waladuhū ˈillā ḫasāran

    Noah said, ‘My Lord! They have disobeyed me, following someone whose wealth and children only add to his loss,

22. 71:22

    وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا﴿٢٢﴾

    wa-makarū makran kubbāran

    and they have devised an outrageous plot.

23. 71:23

    وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا﴿٢٣﴾

    wa-qālū lā taḏarunna ˈālihatakum wa-lā taḏarunna waddan wa-lā suwāʿan wa-lā yaġūṯa wa-yaʿūqa wa-nasran

    They say, ‘‘Do not abandon your gods. Do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, Ya‘uq and Nasr,’’

24. 71:24

    وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا۟ كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَـٰلًا﴿٢٤﴾

    wa-qad ˈaḍallū kaṯīran wa-lā tazidi ẓ-ẓālimīna ˈillā ḍalālan

    and already they have led many astray. Do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but error.’

25. 71:25

    مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا۟ فَأُدْخِلُوا۟ نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارًا﴿٢٥﴾

    mimmā ḫaṭīˈātihim ˈuġriqū fa-ˈudḫilū nāran fa-lam yaǧidū lahum min dūni llāhi ˈanṣāran

    They were drowned because of their iniquities, then made to enter a Fire, and they did not find any helpers for themselves besides Allah.

26. 71:26

    وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا﴿٢٦﴾

    wa-qāla nūḥun rabbi lā taḏar ʿalā l-ˈarḍi mina l-kāfirīna dayyāran

    And Noah said, ‘My Lord! ‘Do not leave on the earth any inhabitant from among the faithless.

27. 71:27

    إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا۟ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا﴿٢٧﴾

    ˈinnaka ˈin taḏarhum yuḍillū ʿibādaka wa-lā yalidū ˈillā fāǧiran kaffāran

    If You leave them, they will lead astray Your servants, and will beget none except vicious ingrates.

28. 71:28

    رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا﴿٢٨﴾

    rabbi ġfir lī wa-li-wālidayya wa-li-man daḫala baytiya muˈminan wa-li-l-muˈminīna wa-l-muˈmināti wa-lā tazidi ẓ-ẓālimīna ˈillā tabāran

    My Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and whoever enters my house in faith, and the faithful men and women, and do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but ruin.’
