Surah Al-Jinn

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 72:1

   قُلْ أُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًا﴿١﴾

   qul ˈūḥiya ˈilayya ˈannahu stamaʿa nafarun mina l-ǧinni fa-qālū ˈinnā samiʿnā qurˈānan ʿaǧaban

   Say, ‘It has been revealed to me that a team of the jinn listened [to the Quran] and they said, “Indeed we heard a wonderful Quran,

2. 72:2

   يَهْدِىٓ إِلَى ٱلرُّشْدِ فَـَٔامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَآ أَحَدًا﴿٢﴾

   yahdī ˈilā r-rušdi fa-ˈāmannā bihī wa-lan nušrika bi-rabbinā ˈaḥadan

   which guides to rectitude. Hence, we have believed in it and we will never ascribe any partner to our Lord.

3. 72:3

   وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَـٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَـٰحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا﴿٣﴾

   wa-ˈannahū taʿālā ǧaddu rabbinā mā ttaḫaḏa ṣāḥibatan wa-lā waladan

   Exalted be the majesty of our Lord; He has taken neither any spouse nor son.

4. 72:4

   وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطًا﴿٤﴾

   wa-ˈannahū kāna yaqūlu safīhunā ʿalā llāhi šaṭaṭan

   The foolish ones among us used to speak atrocious lies concerning Allah.

5. 72:5

   وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلْإِنسُ وَٱلْجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا﴿٥﴾

   wa-ˈannā ẓanannā ˈan lan taqūla l-ˈinsu wa-l-ǧinnu ʿalā llāhi kaḏiban

   We thought that humans and jinn would never utter any falsehood concerning Allah.

6. 72:6

   وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا﴿٦﴾

   wa-ˈannahū kāna riǧālun mina l-ˈinsi yaʿūḏūna bi-riǧālin mina l-ǧinni fa-zādūhum rahaqan

   Indeed some persons from the humans would seek the protection of some persons from the jinn, thus only adding to their rebellion.

7. 72:7

   وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن لَّن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدًا﴿٧﴾

   wa-ˈannahum ẓannū ka-mā ẓanantum ˈan lan yabʿaṯa llāhu ˈaḥadan

   They thought, just as you think, that Allah will not raise anyone from the dead.

8. 72:8

   وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا﴿٨﴾

   wa-ˈannā lamasnā s-samāˈa fa-waǧadnāhā muliˈat ḥarasan šadīdan wa-šuhuban

   Indeed we made for the heaven and found it full of mighty sentries and flames.

9. 72:9

   وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَن يَسْتَمِعِ ٱلْـَٔانَ يَجِدْ لَهُۥ شِهَابًا رَّصَدًا﴿٩﴾

   wa-ˈannā kunnā naqʿudu minhā maqāʿida li-s-samʿi fa-man yastamiʿi l-ˈāna yaǧid lahū šihāban raṣadan

   We used to sit in its positions to eavesdrop, but anyone listening now finds a flame waiting for him.

10. 72:10

    وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِىٓ أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا﴿١٠﴾

    wa-ˈannā lā nadrī ˈa-šarrun ˈurīda bi-man fī l-ˈarḍi ˈam ˈarāda bihim rabbuhum rašadan

    We do not know whether ill is intended for those who are on the earth, or whether their Lord intends good for them.

11. 72:11

    وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدًا﴿١١﴾

    wa-ˈannā minnā ṣ-ṣāliḥūna wa-minnā dūna ḏālika kunnā ṭarāˈiqa qidadan

    Among us some are righteous and some are otherwise: we are various sects.

12. 72:12

    وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن نُّعْجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَن نُّعْجِزَهُۥ هَرَبًا﴿١٢﴾

    wa-ˈannā ẓanannā ˈan lan nuʿǧiza llāha fī l-ˈarḍi wa-lan nuʿǧizahū haraban

    We know that we cannot frustrate Allah on the earth, nor can we frustrate Him by fleeing.

13. 72:13

    وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا﴿١٣﴾

    wa-ˈannā lammā samiʿnā l-hudā ˈāmannā bihī fa-man yuˈmin bi-rabbihī fa-lā yaḫāfu baḫsan wa-lā rahaqan

    When we heard the [message of] guidance, we believed in it. Whoever that has faith in his Lord will fear neither privation nor oppression.

14. 72:14

    وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا۟ رَشَدًا﴿١٤﴾

    wa-ˈannā minnā l-muslimūna wa-minnā l-qāsiṭūna fa-man ˈaslama fa-ˈulāˈika taḥarraw rašadan

    Among us some are Muslims and some of us are perverse.” ’ Those who submit [to Allah]—it is they who pursue rectitude.

15. 72:15

    وَأَمَّا ٱلْقَـٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا﴿١٥﴾

    wa-ˈammā l-qāsiṭūna fa-kānū li-ǧahannama ḥaṭaban

    As for the perverse, they will be firewood for hell.

16. 72:16

    وَأَلَّوِ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَـٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقًا﴿١٦﴾

    wa-ˈallawi staqāmū ʿalā ṭ-ṭarīqati la-ˈasqaynāhum māˈan ġadaqan

    If they are steadfast on the path [of Allah], We shall provide them with abundant water,

17. 72:17

    لِّنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَن يُعْرِضْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا﴿١٧﴾

    li-naftinahum fīhi wa-man yuʿriḍ ʿan ḏikri rabbihī yaslukhu ʿaḏāban ṣaʿadan

    so that We may test them therein, and whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will let him into an escalating punishment.

18. 72:18

    وَأَنَّ ٱلْمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدًا﴿١٨﴾

    wa-ˈanna l-masāǧida li-llāhi fa-lā tadʿū maʿa llāhi ˈaḥadan

    The places of worship belong to Allah, so do not invoke anyone along with Allah.

19. 72:19

    وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا﴿١٩﴾

    wa-ˈannahū lammā qāma ʿabdu llāhi yadʿūhu kādū yakūnūna ʿalayhi libadan

    When the servant of Allah rose to pray to Him, they almost crowded around him.

20. 72:20

    قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَدْعُوا۟ رَبِّى وَلَآ أُشْرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا﴿٢٠﴾

    qul ˈinnamā ˈadʿū rabbī wa-lā ˈušriku bihī ˈaḥadan

    Say, ‘I pray only to my Lord, and I do not ascribe any partner to Him.’

21. 72:21

    قُلْ إِنِّى لَآ أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا﴿٢١﴾

    qul ˈinnī lā ˈamliku lakum ḍarran wa-lā rašadan

    Say, ‘I have no power to bring you any harm or good [of my own accord].’

22. 72:22

    قُلْ إِنِّى لَن يُجِيرَنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلْتَحَدًا﴿٢٢﴾

    qul ˈinnī lan yuǧīranī mina llāhi ˈaḥadun wa-lan ˈaǧida min dūnihī multaḥadan

    Say, ‘Neither can anyone shelter me from Allah, nor can I find any refuge besides Him.

23. 72:23

    إِلَّا بَلَـٰغًا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يَعْصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا﴿٢٣﴾

    ˈillā balāġan mina llāhi wa-risālātihī wa-man yaʿṣi llāha wa-rasūlahū fa-ˈinna lahū nāra ǧahannama ḫālidīna fīhā ˈabadan

    [I have no duty] except to transmit from Allah, and [to communicate] His messages; and whoever disobeys Allah and His apostle, there will indeed be for him the fire of hell, to remain in it forever.’

24. 72:24

    حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا﴿٢٤﴾

    ḥattā ˈiḏā raˈaw mā yūʿadūna fa-sa-yaʿlamūna man ˈaḍʿafu nāṣiran wa-ˈaqallu ʿadadan

    When they see what they are promised, they will know who is weaker in supporters and fewer in numbers.

25. 72:25

    قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِىٓ أَقَرِيبٌ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّىٓ أَمَدًا﴿٢٥﴾

    qul ˈin ˈadrī ˈa-qarībun mā tūʿadūna ˈam yaǧʿalu lahū rabbī ˈamadan

    Say, ‘I do not know if what you are promised is near, or if my Lord has set a [long] term for it.’

26. 72:26

    عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا﴿٢٦﴾

    ʿālimu l-ġaybi fa-lā yuẓhiru ʿalā ġaybihī ˈaḥadan

    Knower of the Unseen, He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] Unseen to anyone,

27. 72:27

    إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَسْلُكُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ رَصَدًا﴿٢٧﴾

    ˈillā mani rtaḍā min rasūlin fa-ˈinnahū yasluku min bayni yadayhi wa-min ḫalfihī raṣadan

    except to an apostle He approves of. Then He dispatches a sentinel before and behind him

28. 72:28

    لِّيَعْلَمَ أَن قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا۟ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ عَدَدًۢا﴿٢٨﴾

    li-yaʿlama ˈan qad ˈablaġū risālāti rabbihim wa-ˈaḥāṭa bi-mā ladayhim wa-ˈaḥṣā kulla šayˈin ʿadadan

    so that He may ascertain that they have communicated the messages of their Lord, and He encompasses all that is with them, and He keeps an count of all things.
