Surah Al-Qiyaama

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 75:1

   لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ﴿١﴾

   lā ˈuqsimu bi-yawmi l-qiyāmati

   I swear by the Day of Resurrection!

2. 75:2

   وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ﴿٢﴾

   wa-lā ˈuqsimu bi-n-nafsi l-lawwāmati

   And I swear by the self-critical soul!

3. 75:3

   أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ﴿٣﴾

   ˈa-yaḥsabu l-ˈinsānu ˈal-lan naǧmaʿa ʿiẓāmahū

   Does man suppose that We will not put together his bones [at resurrection]?

4. 75:4

   بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ﴿٤﴾

   balā qādirīna ʿalā ˈan nusawwiya banānahū

   Yes indeed, We are able to [re]shape [even] his fingertips!

5. 75:5

   بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ﴿٥﴾

   bal yurīdu l-ˈinsānu li-yafǧura ˈamāmahū

   Indeed, man desires to go on living viciously.

6. 75:6

   يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ﴿٦﴾

   yasˈalu ˈayyāna yawmu l-qiyāmati

   He asks, ‘When will be this “day of resurrection”?!’

7. 75:7

   فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ﴿٧﴾

   fa-ˈiḏā bariqa l-baṣaru

   But when the eyes are dazzled,

8. 75:8

   وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ﴿٨﴾

   wa-ḫasafa l-qamaru

   the moon is eclipsed,

9. 75:9

   وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ﴿٩﴾

   wa-ǧumiʿa š-šamsu wa-l-qamaru

   and the sun and the moon are brought together,

10. 75:10

    يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ﴿١٠﴾

    yaqūlu l-ˈinsānu yawmaˈiḏin ˈayna l-mafarru

    that day man will say, ‘Where is the escape [from this day]?’

11. 75:11

    كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ﴿١١﴾

    kallā lā wazara

    No indeed! There will be no refuge!

12. 75:12

    إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ﴿١٢﴾

    ˈilā rabbika yawmaˈiḏin-i l-mustaqarru

    That day the [final] goal will be toward your Lord.

13. 75:13

    يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ﴿١٣﴾

    yunabbaˈu l-ˈinsānu yawmaˈiḏin bi-mā qaddama wa-ˈaḫḫara

    That day man will be informed about what [works] he had sent ahead [to the scene of judgement] and [the legacy that he had] left behind.

14. 75:14

    بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌ﴿١٤﴾

    bali l-ˈinsānu ʿalā nafsihī baṣīratun

    Indeed, man is a witness to himself,

15. 75:15

    وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ﴿١٥﴾

    wa-law ˈalqā maʿāḏīrahū

    though he should offer excuses [to justify his failings].

16. 75:16

    لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦٓ﴿١٦﴾

    lā tuḥarrik bihī lisānaka li-taʿǧala bihī

    Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it.

17. 75:17

    إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ﴿١٧﴾

    ˈinna ʿalaynā ǧamʿahū wa-qurˈānahū

    Indeed it is up to Us to put it together and to recite it.

18. 75:18

    فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ﴿١٨﴾

    fa-ˈiḏā qaraˈnāhu fa-ttabiʿ qurˈānahū

    And when We have recited it, follow its recitation.

19. 75:19

    ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ﴿١٩﴾

    ṯumma ˈinna ʿalaynā bayānahū

    Then, its exposition [also] lies with Us.

20. 75:20

    كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ﴿٢٠﴾

    kallā bal tuḥibbūna l-ʿāǧilata

    No! Indeed, you love this transitory life

21. 75:21

    وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ﴿٢١﴾

    wa-taḏarūna l-ˈāḫirata

    and forsake the Hereafter.

22. 75:22

    وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ﴿٢٢﴾

    wuǧūhun yawmaˈiḏin nāḍiratun

    Some faces will be fresh on that day,

23. 75:23

    إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ﴿٢٣﴾

    ˈilā rabbihā nāẓiratun

    looking to their Lord,

24. 75:24

    وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَاسِرَةٌ﴿٢٤﴾

    wa-wuǧūhun yawmaˈiḏin bāsiratun

    and some faces will be scowling on that day,

25. 75:25

    تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ﴿٢٥﴾

    taẓunnu ˈan yufʿala bihā fāqiratun

    knowing that they will be dealt out a punishment breaking the spine.

26. 75:26

    كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ﴿٢٦﴾

    kallā ˈiḏā balaġati t-tarāqiya

    No indeed! When it reaches up to the collar bones

27. 75:27

    وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ﴿٢٧﴾

    wa-qīla man rāqin

    and it is said, ‘Who will take him up?’

28. 75:28

    وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ﴿٢٨﴾

    wa-ẓanna ˈannahu l-firāqu

    and he knows that it is the [time of] parting,

29. 75:29

    وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ﴿٢٩﴾

    wa-ltaffati s-sāqu bi-s-sāqi

    and each shank clasps the other shank,

30. 75:30

    إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ﴿٣٠﴾

    ˈilā rabbika yawmaˈiḏin-i l-masāqu

    that day he shall be driven toward your Lord.

31. 75:31

    فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ﴿٣١﴾

    fa-lā ṣaddaqa wa-lā ṣallā

    He neither confirmed [the messages of Allah], nor did he pray,

32. 75:32

    وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿٣٢﴾

    wa-lākin kaḏḏaba wa-tawallā

    but denied [them] and turned away,

33. 75:33

    ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ﴿٣٣﴾

    ṯumma ḏahaba ˈilā ˈahlihī yatamaṭṭā

    and went back swaggering to his family.

34. 75:34

    أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ﴿٣٤﴾

    ˈawlā laka fa-ˈawlā

    So, woe to you! Woe to you!

35. 75:35

    ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ﴿٣٥﴾

    ṯumma ˈawlā laka fa-ˈawlā

    Again, woe to you! Woe to you!

36. 75:36

    أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى﴿٣٦﴾

    ˈa-yaḥsabu l-ˈinsānu ˈan yutraka sudan

    Does man suppose that he has been abandoned to futility?

37. 75:37

    أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّن مَّنِىٍّ يُمْنَىٰ﴿٣٧﴾

    ˈa-lam yaku nuṭfatan min maniyyin yumnā

    Was he not a drop of emitted semen,

38. 75:38

    ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ﴿٣٨﴾

    ṯumma kāna ʿalaqatan fa-ḫalaqa fa-sawwā

    and then a clinging mass? Whereat He created and proportioned [him],

39. 75:39

    فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ﴿٣٩﴾

    fa-ǧaʿala minhu z-zawǧayni ḏ-ḏakara wa-l-ˈunṯā

    and made of him the two sexes, male and female.

40. 75:40

    أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ﴿٤٠﴾

    ˈa-laysa ḏālika bi-qādirin ʿalā ˈan yuḥyiya l-mawtā

    Is not [someone like] that able to revive the dead?
