Surah Al-Insaan

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 76:1

   هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ حِينٌ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًٔا مَّذْكُورًا﴿١﴾

   hal ˈatā ʿalā l-ˈinsāni ḥīnun mina d-dahri lam yakun šayˈan maḏkūran

   Has there been a period of time for man when he was not anything worthy of mention?

2. 76:2

   إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا﴿٢﴾

   ˈinnā ḫalaqnā l-ˈinsāna min nuṭfatin ˈamšāǧin nabtalīhi fa-ǧaʿalnāhu samīʿan baṣīran

   Indeed We created man from the drop of a mixed fluid so that We may put him to test, so We endowed with hearing and sight.

3. 76:3

   إِنَّا هَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا﴿٣﴾

   ˈinnā hadaynāhu s-sabīla ˈimmā šākiran wa-ˈimmā kafūran

   Indeed We have guided him to the way, be he grateful or ungrateful.

4. 76:4

   إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ سَلَـٰسِلَا۟ وَأَغْلَـٰلًا وَسَعِيرًا﴿٤﴾

   ˈinnā ˈaʿtadnā li-l-kāfirīna salāsila wa-ˈaġlālan wa-saʿīran

   Indeed for the faithless We have prepared chains, iron collars, and a blaze.

5. 76:5

   إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا﴿٥﴾

   ˈinna l-ˈabrāra yašrabūna min kaˈsin kāna mizāǧuhā kāfūran

   Indeed the pious will drink from a cup seasoned with Kafur,

6. 76:6

   عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ ٱللَّهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفْجِيرًا﴿٦﴾

   ʿaynan yašrabu bihā ʿibādu llāhi yufaǧǧirūnahā tafǧīran

   a spring where Allah’s servants will drink, making it gush forth as they please.

7. 76:7

   يُوفُونَ بِٱلنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسْتَطِيرًا﴿٧﴾

   yūfūna bi-n-naḏri wa-yaḫāfūna yawman kāna šarruhū mustaṭīran

   They fulfill their vows and fear a day whose ill will be widespread.

8. 76:8

   وَيُطْعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا﴿٨﴾

   wa-yuṭʿimūna ṭ-ṭaʿāma ʿalā ḥubbihī miskīnan wa-yatīman wa-ˈasīran

   For the love of Him, they feed the needy, the orphan and the prisoner,

9. 76:9

   إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَآءً وَلَا شُكُورًا﴿٩﴾

   ˈinnamā nuṭʿimukum li-waǧhi llāhi lā nurīdu minkum ǧazāˈan wa-lā šukūran

   [saying,] ‘We feed you only for the sake of Allah. We desire no reward from you, nor thanks.

10. 76:10

    إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا يَوْمًا عَبُوسًا قَمْطَرِيرًا﴿١٠﴾

    ˈinnā naḫāfu min rabbinā yawman ʿabūsan qamṭarīran

    Indeed we fear a frowning and fateful day from our Lord.’

11. 76:11

    فَوَقَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمْ نَضْرَةً وَسُرُورًا﴿١١﴾

    fa-waqāhumu llāhu šarra ḏālika l-yawmi wa-laqqāhum naḍratan wa-surūran

    So Allah saved them from that day’s ills and graced them with freshness [on this faces] and joy [in their hearts].

12. 76:12

    وَجَزَىٰهُم بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ جَنَّةً وَحَرِيرًا﴿١٢﴾

    wa-ǧazāhum bi-mā ṣabarū ǧannatan wa-ḥarīran

    He rewarded them for their patience with a garden and [garments of] silk,

13. 76:13

    مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ ۖ لَا يَرَوْنَ فِيهَا شَمْسًا وَلَا زَمْهَرِيرًا﴿١٣﴾

    muttakiˈīna fīhā ʿalā l-ˈarāˈiki lā yarawna fīhā šamsan wa-lā zamharīran

    reclining therein on couches, without facing any [scorching] sun, or [biting] cold.

14. 76:14

    وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيْهِمْ ظِلَـٰلُهَا وَذُلِّلَتْ قُطُوفُهَا تَذْلِيلًا﴿١٤﴾

    wa-dāniyatan ʿalayhim ẓilāluhā wa-ḏullilat quṭūfuhā taḏlīlan

    Its shades will be close over them and its clusters [of fruits] will be hanging low.

15. 76:15

    وَيُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِـَٔانِيَةٍ مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَأَكْوَابٍ كَانَتْ قَوَارِيرَا۠﴿١٥﴾

    wa-yuṭāfu ʿalayhim bi-ˈāniyatin min fiḍḍatin wa-ˈakwābin kānat qawārīra

    They will be served around with vessels of silver and goblets of crystal

16. 76:16

    قَوَارِيرَا۟ مِن فِضَّةٍ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقْدِيرًا﴿١٦﴾

    qawārīra min fiḍḍatin qaddarūhā taqdīran

    —crystal of silver— [from] which they will dispense in a precise measure.

17. 76:17

    وَيُسْقَوْنَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنجَبِيلًا﴿١٧﴾

    wa-yusqawna fīhā kaˈsan kāna mizāǧuhā zanǧabīlan

    They will be served therein with a cup of a drink seasoned with Zanjabeel,

18. 76:18

    عَيْنًا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلْسَبِيلًا﴿١٨﴾

    ʿaynan fīhā tusammā salsabīlan

    from a spring in it named Salsabeel.

19. 76:19

    وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ حَسِبْتَهُمْ لُؤْلُؤًا مَّنثُورًا﴿١٩﴾

    wa-yaṭūfu ʿalayhim wildānun muḫalladūna ˈiḏā raˈaytahum ḥasibtahum luˈluˈan manṯūran

    They will be waited upon by immortal youths, whom, were you to see them, you will suppose them to be scattered pearls.

20. 76:20

    وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيْتَ نَعِيمًا وَمُلْكًا كَبِيرًا﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā raˈayta ṯamma raˈayta naʿīman wa-mulkan kabīran

    As you look on, you will see there bliss and a great kingdom.

21. 76:21

    عَـٰلِيَهُمْ ثِيَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضْرٌ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٌ ۖ وَحُلُّوٓا۟ أَسَاوِرَ مِن فِضَّةٍ وَسَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ شَرَابًا طَهُورًا﴿٢١﴾

    ʿāliyahum ṯiyābu sundusin ḫuḍrun wa-ˈistabraqun wa-ḥullū ˈasāwira min fiḍḍatin wa-saqāhum rabbuhum šarāban ṭahūran

    Upon them will be cloaks of green silk and brocade and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them to drink a pure drink.

22. 76:22

    إِنَّ هَـٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمْ جَزَآءً وَكَانَ سَعْيُكُم مَّشْكُورًا﴿٢٢﴾

    ˈinna hāḏā kāna lakum ǧazāˈan wa-kāna saʿyukum maškūran

    [They will be told]: ‘This is your reward, and your efforts have been well-appreciated.’

23. 76:23

    إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَنزِيلًا﴿٢٣﴾

    ˈinnā naḥnu nazzalnā ʿalayka l-qurˈāna tanzīlan

    Indeed We have sent down to you the Quran in a gradual descent.

24. 76:24

    فَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعْ مِنْهُمْ ءَاثِمًا أَوْ كَفُورًا﴿٢٤﴾

    fa-ṣbir li-ḥukmi rabbika wa-lā tuṭiʿ minhum ˈāṯiman ˈaw kafūran

    So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord and do not obey any sinner or ingrate from among them,

25. 76:25

    وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا﴿٢٥﴾

    wa-ḏkuri sma rabbika bukratan wa-ˈaṣīlan

    and celebrate the Name of your Lord morning and evening,

26. 76:26

    وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَٱسْجُدْ لَهُۥ وَسَبِّحْهُ لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا﴿٢٦﴾

    wa-mina l-layli fa-sǧud lahū wa-sabbiḥhu laylan ṭawīlan

    and worship Him for a watch of the night and glorify Him the night long.

27. 76:27

    إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ يُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَآءَهُمْ يَوْمًا ثَقِيلًا﴿٢٧﴾

    ˈinna hāˈulāˈi yuḥibbūna l-ʿāǧilata wa-yaḏarūna warāˈahum yawman ṯaqīlan

    Indeed they love this transitory life, and disregard a heavy day that is ahead of them.

28. 76:28

    نَّحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰهُمْ وَشَدَدْنَآ أَسْرَهُمْ ۖ وَإِذَا شِئْنَا بَدَّلْنَآ أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ تَبْدِيلًا﴿٢٨﴾

    naḥnu ḫalaqnāhum wa-šadadnā ˈasrahum wa-ˈiḏā šiˈnā baddalnā ˈamṯālahum tabdīlan

    We created them and strengthened their joints, and We will replace them with others like them whenever We like.

29. 76:29

    إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا﴿٢٩﴾

    ˈinna hāḏihī taḏkiratun fa-man šāˈa ttaḫaḏa ˈilā rabbihī sabīlan

    This is indeed a reminder. So let anyone who wishes take the way toward his Lord.

30. 76:30

    وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا﴿٣٠﴾

    wa-mā tašāˈūna ˈillā ˈan yašāˈa llāhu ˈinna llāha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīman

    But you will not wish unless it is willed by Allah. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.

31. 76:31

    يُدْخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ وَٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًۢا﴿٣١﴾

    yudḫilu man yašāˈu fī raḥmatihī wa-ẓ-ẓālimīna ˈaʿadda lahum ʿaḏāban ˈalīman

    He admits whomever He wishes into His mercy, and He has prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers.
