Surah At-Takwir

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 81:1

   إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ﴿١﴾

   ˈiḏā š-šamsu kuwwirat

   When the sun is wound up,

2. 81:2

   وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ﴿٢﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā n-nuǧūmu nkadarat

   when the stars scatter,

3. 81:3

   وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ﴿٣﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā l-ǧibālu suyyirat

   when the mountains are set moving,

4. 81:4

   وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ﴿٤﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā l-ʿišāru ʿuṭṭilat

   when the pregnant camels are neglected,

5. 81:5

   وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ﴿٥﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā l-wuḥūšu ḥuširat

   when the wild beasts are mustered,

6. 81:6

   وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ﴿٦﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā l-biḥāru suǧǧirat

   when the seas are set afire,

7. 81:7

   وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ﴿٧﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā n-nufūsu zuwwiǧat

   when the souls are assorted,

8. 81:8

   وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ﴿٨﴾

   wa-ˈiḏā l-mawˈūdatu suˈilat

   when the girl buried-alive will be asked

9. 81:9

   بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ﴿٩﴾

   bi-ˈayyi ḏanbin qutilat

   for what sin she was killed.

10. 81:10

    وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ﴿١٠﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā ṣ-ṣuḥufu nuširat

    When the records [of deeds] are unfolded,

11. 81:11

    وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ﴿١١﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā s-samāˈu kušiṭat

    when the sky is stripped off,

12. 81:12

    وَإِذَا ٱلْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ﴿١٢﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā l-ǧaḥīmu suʿʿirat

    when hell is set ablaze,

13. 81:13

    وَإِذَا ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ﴿١٣﴾

    wa-ˈiḏā l-ǧannatu ˈuzlifat

    when paradise is brought near,

14. 81:14

    عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّآ أَحْضَرَتْ﴿١٤﴾

    ʿalimat nafsun mā ˈaḥḍarat

    then a soul shall know what it has readied [for itself].

15. 81:15

    فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ﴿١٥﴾

    fa-lā ˈuqsimu bi-l-ḫunnasi

    So I swear by the stars that return,

16. 81:16

    ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ﴿١٦﴾

    al-ǧawāri l-kunnasi

    the comets,

17. 81:17

    وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ﴿١٧﴾

    wa-l-layli ˈiḏā ʿasʿasa

    by the night as it approaches,

18. 81:18

    وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ﴿١٨﴾

    wa-ṣ-ṣubḥi ˈiḏā tanaffasa

    by the dawn as it breathes:

19. 81:19

    إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ﴿١٩﴾

    ˈinnahū la-qawlu rasūlin karīmin

    it is indeed the speech of a noble apostle,

20. 81:20

    ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ﴿٢٠﴾

    ḏī quwwatin ʿinda ḏī l-ʿarši makīnin

    powerful and eminent with the Lord of the Throne,

21. 81:21

    مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ﴿٢١﴾

    muṭāʿin ṯamma ˈamīnin

    one who is obeyed and is trustworthy as well.

22. 81:22

    وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ﴿٢٢﴾

    wa-mā ṣāḥibukum bi-maǧnūnin

    Your companion is not crazy:

23. 81:23

    وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ﴿٢٣﴾

    wa-la-qad raˈāhu bi-l-ˈufuqi l-mubīni

    certainly he saw him on the manifest horizon,

24. 81:24

    وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ﴿٢٤﴾

    wa-mā huwa ʿalā l-ġaybi bi-ḍanīnin

    and he is not miserly concerning the Unseen.

25. 81:25

    وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ﴿٢٥﴾

    wa-mā huwa bi-qawli šayṭānin raǧīmin

    And it is not the speech of an outcast Satan.

26. 81:26

    فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ﴿٢٦﴾

    fa-ˈayna taḏhabūna

    So where are you going?

27. 81:27

    إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿٢٧﴾

    ˈin huwa ˈillā ḏikrun li-l-ʿālamīna

    It is just a reminder for all the nations,

28. 81:28

    لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ﴿٢٨﴾

    li-man šāˈa minkum ˈan yastaqīma

    for those of you who wish to walk straight;

29. 81:29

    وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ﴿٢٩﴾

    wa-mā tašāˈūna ˈillā ˈan yašāˈa llāhu rabbu l-ʿālamīna

    but you will not wish unless it is wished by Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
