Surah Al-Burooj

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 85:1

   وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ﴿١﴾

   wa-s-samāˈi ḏāti l-burūǧi

   By the heaven with its Houses,

2. 85:2

   وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ﴿٢﴾

   wa-l-yawmi l-mawʿūdi

   by the Promised Day,

3. 85:3

   وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ﴿٣﴾

   wa-šāhidin wa-mašhūdin

   by the Witness and the Witnessed:

4. 85:4

   قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ﴿٤﴾

   qutila ˈaṣḥābu l-ˈuḫdūdi

   perish the People of the Ditch!

5. 85:5

   ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ﴿٥﴾

   an-nāri ḏāti l-waqūdi

   The fire abounding in fuel,

6. 85:6

   إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ﴿٦﴾

   ˈiḏ hum ʿalayhā quʿūdun

   above which they sat

7. 85:7

   وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ﴿٧﴾

   wa-hum ʿalā mā yafʿalūna bi-l-muˈminīna šuhūdun

   as they were themselves witnesses to what they did to the faithful.

8. 85:8

   وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ﴿٨﴾

   wa-mā naqamū minhum ˈillā ˈan yuˈminū bi-llāhi l-ʿazīzi l-ḥamīdi

   They were vindictive towards them only because they had faith in Allah, the All-mighty and the All-laudable,

9. 85:9

   ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ﴿٩﴾

   allaḏī lahū mulku s-samāwāti wa-l-ˈarḍi wa-llāhu ʿalā kulli šayˈin šahīdun

   to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is witness to all things.

10. 85:10

    إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ﴿١٠﴾

    ˈinna llaḏīna fatanū l-muˈminīna wa-l-muˈmināti ṯumma lam yatūbū fa-lahum ʿaḏābu ǧahannama wa-lahum ʿaḏābu l-ḥarīqi

    Indeed those who persecute the faithful, men and women, and do not repent thereafter, there is the punishment of hell for them and the punishment of burning.

11. 85:11

    إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ﴿١١﴾

    ˈinna llaḏīna ˈāmanū wa-ʿamilū ṣ-ṣāliḥāti lahum ǧannātun taǧrī min taḥtihā l-ˈanhāru ḏālika l-fawzu l-kabīru

    Indeed those who have faith and do righteous deeds—for them will be gardens with streams running in them. That is the supreme success.

12. 85:12

    إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ﴿١٢﴾

    ˈinna baṭša rabbika la-šadīdun

    Indeed your Lord’s striking is severe.

13. 85:13

    إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ﴿١٣﴾

    ˈinnahū huwa yubdiˈu wa-yuʿīdu

    It is indeed He who originates and brings back,

14. 85:14

    وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ﴿١٤﴾

    wa-huwa l-ġafūru l-wadūdu

    and He is the All-forgiving, the All-affectionate,

15. 85:15

    ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ﴿١٥﴾

    ḏū-l-ʿarši l-maǧīdu

    Lord of the Throne, the All-glorious,

16. 85:16

    فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ﴿١٦﴾

    faʿʿālun li-mā yurīdu

    doer of what He desires.

17. 85:17

    هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ﴿١٧﴾

    hal ˈatāka ḥadīṯu l-ǧunūdi

    Did you receive the story of the hosts

18. 85:18

    فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ﴿١٨﴾

    firʿawna wa-ṯamūda

    of Pharaoh and Thamud?

19. 85:19

    بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ﴿١٩﴾

    bali llaḏīna kafarū fī takḏībin

    Indeed the faithless dwell in denial,

20. 85:20

    وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-llāhu min warāˈihim muḥīṭun

    and Allah besieges them from all around.

21. 85:21

    بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ﴿٢١﴾

    bal huwa qurˈānun maǧīdun

    Indeed it is a glorious Quran,

22. 85:22

    فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ﴿٢٢﴾

    fī lawḥin maḥfūẓin

    in a preserved tablet.
