Surah Al-A'laa

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 87:1

   سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى﴿١﴾

   sabbiḥi sma rabbika l-ˈaʿlā

   Celebrate the Name of your Lord, the Most Exalted,

2. 87:2

   ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ﴿٢﴾

   allaḏī ḫalaqa fa-sawwā

   who created and proportioned,

3. 87:3

   وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ﴿٣﴾

   wa-llaḏī qaddara fa-hadā

   who determined and guided,

4. 87:4

   وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ﴿٤﴾

   wa-llaḏī ˈaḫraǧa l-marʿā

   who brought forth the pasture

5. 87:5

   فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ﴿٥﴾

   fa-ǧaʿalahū ġuṯāˈan ˈaḥwā

   and then turned it into a black scum.

6. 87:6

   سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ﴿٦﴾

   sa-nuqriˈuka fa-lā tansā

   We shall have you recite [the Quran], then you will not forget [any of it]

7. 87:7

   إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ﴿٧﴾

   ˈillā mā šāˈa llāhu ˈinnahū yaʿlamu l-ǧahra wa-mā yaḫfā

   except what Allah may wish. Indeed, He knows the open and what is hidden.

8. 87:8

   وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ﴿٨﴾

   wa-nuyassiruka li-l-yusrā

   And We shall ease you into facility.

9. 87:9

   فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ﴿٩﴾

   fa-ḏakkir ˈin nafaʿati ḏ-ḏikrā

   So admonish, for admonition is indeed beneficial:

10. 87:10

    سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ﴿١٠﴾

    sa-yaḏḏakkaru man yaḫšā

    he who fears [God] will take admonition,

11. 87:11

    وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى﴿١١﴾

    wa-yataǧannabuhā l-ˈašqā

    and the most wretched will shun it

12. 87:12

    ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ﴿١٢﴾

    allaḏī yaṣlā n-nāra l-kubrā

    —he who will enter the Great Fire,

13. 87:13

    ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ﴿١٣﴾

    ṯumma lā yamūtu fīhā wa-lā yaḥyā

    then he will neither live in it, nor die.

14. 87:14

    قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ﴿١٤﴾

    qad ˈaflaḥa man tazakkā

    ‘Felicitous is he who purifies himself,

15. 87:15

    وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ﴿١٥﴾

    wa-ḏakara sma rabbihī fa-ṣallā

    celebrates the Name of his Lord, and prays.

16. 87:16

    بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا﴿١٦﴾

    bal tuˈṯirūna l-ḥayāta d-dunyā

    But you prefer the life of this world,

17. 87:17

    وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ﴿١٧﴾

    wa-l-ˈāḫiratu ḫayrun wa-ˈabqā

    while the Hereafter is better and more lasting.’

18. 87:18

    إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ﴿١٨﴾

    ˈinna hāḏā la-fī ṣ-ṣuḥufi l-ˈūlā

    This is indeed in the former scriptures,

19. 87:19

    صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ﴿١٩﴾

    ṣuḥufi ˈibrāhīma wa-mūsā

    the scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
