Surah Al-Ghaashiya

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. 88:1

   هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ﴿١﴾

   hal ˈatāka ḥadīṯu l-ġāšiyati

   Did you receive the account of the Enveloper?

2. 88:2

   وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ﴿٢﴾

   wuǧūhun yawmaˈiḏin ḫāšiʿatun

   Some faces on that day will be humbled,

3. 88:3

   عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ﴿٣﴾

   ʿāmilatun nāṣibatun

   wrought-up and weary:

4. 88:4

   تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً﴿٤﴾

   taṣlā nāran ḥāmiyatan

   they will enter a scorching fire

5. 88:5

   تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ﴿٥﴾

   tusqā min ʿaynin ˈāniyatin

   and made to drink from a boiling spring.

6. 88:6

   لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ﴿٦﴾

   laysa lahum ṭaʿāmun ˈillā min ḍarīʿin

   They will have no food except cactus,

7. 88:7

   لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ﴿٧﴾

   lā yusminu wa-lā yuġnī min ǧūʿin

   neither nourishing, nor of avail against hunger.

8. 88:8

   وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ﴿٨﴾

   wuǧūhun yawmaˈiḏin nāʿimatun

   Some faces on that day will be joyous,

9. 88:9

   لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ﴿٩﴾

   li-saʿyihā rāḍiyatun

   pleased with their endeavour,

10. 88:10

    فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ﴿١٠﴾

    fī ǧannatin ʿāliyatin

    in a lofty garden,

11. 88:11

    لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً﴿١١﴾

    lā tasmaʿu fīhā lāġiyatan

    where they will not hear any vain talk.

12. 88:12

    فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ﴿١٢﴾

    fīhā ʿaynun ǧāriyatun

    In it is a flowing spring

13. 88:13

    فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ﴿١٣﴾

    fīhā sururun marfūʿatun

    and raised couches,

14. 88:14

    وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ﴿١٤﴾

    wa-ˈakwābun mawḍūʿatun

    with goblets set,

15. 88:15

    وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ﴿١٥﴾

    wa-namāriqu maṣfūfatun

    and cushions laid out in an array,

16. 88:16

    وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ﴿١٦﴾

    wa-zarābiyyu mabṯūṯatun

    and carpets spread out.

17. 88:17

    أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ﴿١٧﴾

    ˈa-fa-lā yanẓurūna ˈilā l-ˈibili kayfa ḫuliqat

    Do they not observe the camel, [to see] how it has been created?

18. 88:18

    وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ﴿١٨﴾

    wa-ˈilā s-samāˈi kayfa rufiʿat

    and the sky, how it has been raised?

19. 88:19

    وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ﴿١٩﴾

    wa-ˈilā l-ǧibāli kayfa nuṣibat

    and the mountains, how they have been set?

20. 88:20

    وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ﴿٢٠﴾

    wa-ˈilā l-ˈarḍi kayfa suṭiḥat

    and the earth, how it has been surfaced?

21. 88:21

    فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ﴿٢١﴾

    fa-ḏakkir ˈinnamā ˈanta muḏakkirun

    So admonish—for you are only an admonisher,

22. 88:22

    لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ﴿٢٢﴾

    lasta ʿalayhim bi-muṣayṭirin

    and not a taskmaster over them—

23. 88:23

    إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ﴿٢٣﴾

    ˈillā man tawallā wa-kafara

    except him who turns back and disbelieves.

24. 88:24

    فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ﴿٢٤﴾

    fa-yuʿaḏḏibuhu llāhu l-ʿaḏāba l-ˈakbara

    Him Allah will punish with the greatest punishment.

25. 88:25

    إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ﴿٢٥﴾

    ˈinna ˈilaynā ˈiyābahum

    Indeed to Us will be their return.

26. 88:26

    ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم﴿٢٦﴾

    ṯumma ˈinna ʿalaynā ḥisābahum

    Then, indeed, their reckoning will lie with Us.
