من بكى اِبني الحسين في الدّهور القادمةWhoever weeps for my son Husayn in the coming ages,

عارفاً بهِ نجا من جحيمٍ حاطِمةKnowing him, he will be saved from the crushing hellfire.

والطِموا تجلوا الصدور من فعالٍ آثِمةAnd beat your chests to cleanse them of sinful deeds.

وابشِروا يوم الحساب حينَ تأتي فاطمةAnd rejoice on the Day of Judgment when Fatimah arrives.

من بكى اِبني الحسين في الدّهور القادمةWhoever weeps for my son Husayn in the coming ages,

عارفاً بهِ نجا من جحيمٍ حاطِمةKnowing him, he will be saved from the crushing hellfire.

والطِموا تجلوا الصدور من فعالٍ آثِمةAnd beat your chests to cleanse them of sinful deeds.

وابشِروا يوم الحساب حينَ تأتي فاطمةAnd rejoice on the Day of Judgment when Fatimah arrives.

أيُّ نورٍ يُسحبُWhich light it was dragging?

يا إمامَ العصرِ قُلO Imam of our Age, say,

للهلالِ يُغرِبُTo the crescent moon, 'Set!'

كي تصلي ليلَهاSo that Layla may pray her night prayers,

من جلوسٍ زينبُFrom the sitting position of Zaynab.

أطفِئ يا ليلُ ضياءَ الوجودO night, extinguish the light of existence!

والطم يا كونُ عليهِ الخدودAnd O universe, strike your cheeks in mourning for him!
