كلما تهت وتعثرتWhenever I went astray and stumbled,

وأنا لم أبلغ الحلم سنيناWhile I had not yet reached the age of maturity for years,

ركضت نحوي وبكت زينبZaynab ran towards me and cried,

خلف أطفال الحسين العاثرينBehind the stumbling children of Husayn.

دينيَ الآن عنه لو أسألIf I am asked about my religion now,

قلت أمي علمتني الطف ديناI would say my mother taught me Karbala as my religion.

وإلى الجنة باسمه ندعى ادخلوها بسلام آمنينAnd to Paradise, by his name, we are called: 'Enter it in peace, secure!'

ادخلوها بقلوب أم سلام أمينEnter it with the hearts of a mother, peace, amen.

يا مصحف عاشوراO Scripture of Ashura!

حسين يا تالي يا غار حراءHusayn! O Reciter, O Cave of Hira!

حسين يا مصحف عاشوراHusayn! O Scripture of Ashura!

حسين يا تالي يا غار حراءHusayn! O Reciter, O Cave of Hira!

كل شيعي دونما قصدEvery Shi'ite, without intention,

نذرته أمه للغاضريه في المخاضHis mother vowed him to Ghaderiya during childbirth.

لا بد أن قالتShe must have said,

إن هذا الطفل في عين الزكيهThis child is in the eye of the pure one (Zakiya).

وإذا ملنا لهوى الدنيا كربلاءAnd if we incline to the desires of this world, Karbala

ثبتت فينا الهويهHas established our identity within us.

بالأسماء نُعلِنُ الحبَّBy these names, we declare our love.

زينبٌ في كل بيتٍ ورقيّه (2x)Zaynab is in every home, and Ruqayyah.

دينيَ الآن عنه لو أُسأَلْIf I am asked about my religion now,

قلتُ أمّي علّمتني الطفَّ ديناI would say my mother taught me Karbala as my religion.

وإلى الجنّه باسمهِ نُدعىAnd to Paradise, by his name, we are called,

اُدخلوها بسلامٍ آمنينَ"Enter it in peace, secure."

كلّما غيمه أرسَلَت ماءًWhenever a cloud sends down rain,

نُرسِلُ الدمعاتِ أمطاراً جَرِيّهwe send forth tears as flowing rains.

بينَنا العاصي يَغسِلُ الذنبَAmong us, the sinner washes away his sin.

بيننا الشُّهداءُ يُمضونَ الوصيّهAmong us, the martyrs fulfill the will.

كربلا حبٌّ في خلاياناKarbala is love within our cells,

ليسَ كسباً للعلومِ الظاهريّهnot an acquisition of superficial knowledge.

ولذا الموتُ دونَ مولاناTherefore, death for our Master

كالذي حيّىis like one who greeted

ورَدَّينا التحيَّهand we returned the greeting.
