ويحدو بي اليك حسن ظنيAnd my good opinion of you leads me to you.

أنا كلي ذنبI am full of sin,

غير إني نزيل في حماك نزيلexcept that I am a guest in your sanctuary. A guest.

أنا الآتي وظهر النفس منحنيI am the one who comes, with a bowed back and a humbled soul,

ويحدو بي إليك حسن ظنيand my good thoughts lead me to you.

أنا كلي ذنبI am full of sin,

غير إني نزيل في حماك نزيلexcept that I am a guest in your sanctuary. A guest.

بدمعي قسوة النفس أحنيWith my tears, I humble the harshness of my soul,

عليها في البلاءات أعنيand I help it through tribulations.

تمنيت وما نفع التمني (2x)I wished, but wishing was of no avail.

على فتوى سواك علىOn a fatwa other than yours, On...

من سواك الكهف والمنWho else but you is the cave and the refuge?

يا وثاقي والأمانO my bond and my security,

في الخفاء والعلانin secret and in public,

تشهد الآنyou bear witness now.

بوركت أمي بأن أرضعتني في اللبان (2x)Blessed be my mother for nursing me with milk.

إن للدمع ثمن في يد اللهIndeed, tears have a price in the hand of God.

يا أبا عبد الله (7x)O Aba Abdillah!

أنا ابن المراثي والعزاءI am the son of elegies and mourning,

بكائي مل صبرا من بكائيmy crying has grown tired of patience from my crying.

قنوتي في الصلاة بيت الدعاءMy supplication in prayer is the house of invocation.

ووردي يا حسين (2x)And my litany is, 'O Hussein!'

إلى الحوراء أعلنت انتمائيTo Hawra, I declared my allegiance,

وللعباس أعليت لوائيand for Abbas, I raised my banner.

إلى الحوراء (2x)To Lady Hawra (Zaynab),

أعلنت انتمائيI declared my allegiance.

وللعباس أعليت لوائي (2x)And for Al-Abbas, I raised my banner high.

غداً في الحشر (2x)Tomorrow, on the Day of Judgment,

أدعى كربلائيI will be called a Karbalai.

على دين الحسين (2x)Upon the religion of Husayn,

إنني عبد النبيI am a servant of the Prophet,

وجنوني مذهبيand my madness (for him) is my creed.

ودموعي مشربيAnd my tears are my drink.

اسمها الكوثرIts name is Al-Kawthar,

من عذابات السبيلfrom the torments of the path,

والخمار الزينبيand the Zainabi veil.

سوف تبقى النار بيThe fire within me will remain,

تحرق المحشرburning the Day of Judgment.
